INSTALLATION
PELVIC BELT INSTALLATION:
Pelvic belts can be installed in different ways according
to user’s seating system, wheelchair type and hardware
used.
Belt Anchors.
All JAY positioning belts include belt anchors for
attachment, (Fig.7.0).
WARNING!
The products described below must be fitted and installed
exclusively by:
• An authorized Sunrise Medical supplier.
• A qualified and competent healthcare professional who
has undergone appropriate certified training by either
Sunrise Medical or their approved supplier.
• Never place a pelvic belt, or positioning support across
the waist or abdomen.
Initial Considerations.
Angles of attachment.
The angle that the pelvic belt is mounted to the
wheelchair has a direct impact on the pull angle on the
pelvis.
A 60° attachment angle to the seat rail positions the pelvic
belt anterior and inferior to the axis, which reduces the
tendency of the user with a posterior pelvic tilt to slide
under the belt.
A 45° attachment angle on the back post encourages a
posterior pelvic tilt, which assists in positioning users with
an anterior pelvic tilt.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Two Point Pelvic Belt, (Fig.9.0).
1. Locate desired attachment point.
2. Attach the belt hardware to the wheelchair frame.
3. Consider the user’s position to determine the ideal
angle for attachment and position the belt on the
centre of the pelvis.
4. Thread the webbing end through the belt mount.

INSTALLATION
Four Point Pelvic Belt, (Fig.10.0).
A. Main Straps, (Fig.11-12).
B. Secondary Straps, (Fig.11-12).
3. Follow the installation steps described in the previous
Two Point Pelvic Belt paragraph, to attach the main
straps of the pelvic belt.
4. Attach the secondary straps to the chair so that they
anchor the primary straps.
5. Tighten secondary straps to prevent movement of the
primary straps.
SAFETY:
For both types of belt, when the installation is finished,
carry out the following procedure to ensure that the user is
appropriately and safely positioned:
1. Check if the user is sitting comfortably.
2. Check if there are any areas of irritation. This usually
manifests as a reddening of the skin especially in soft
tissue.
3. Check that the user does not slide down through the
belt, if they do, adjust the belt as required. If the user
still slides under the belt and the belt is a two point
model, asses if there is a need for the four point belt,
this will provide additional security and adjustment.
4. Check if the pelvic belt mounting hardware is interfering
with any other positioning accessories/devices on the
wheelchair and reposition it if necessary.

INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
To be able to mount any anterior trunk support / shoulder
harness you have to ensure that the following are in
place:
• A wheelchair with a solid backrest set approximately
at shoulder height.
• An installed pelvic belt.
WARNING!
The products described below must be fitted and
installed exclusively by:
• An authorized Sunrise Medical supplier.
• A qualified and competent healthcare professional
who has undergone appropriate certified training by
either Sunrise Medical or their approved supplier.
• Never use anterior trunk supports without stabilizing
the pelvis.
• Always use a properly installed pelvic belt.
Installation steps
1. Fitting and installation should be performed with the
user sitting in the wheelchair.
2. If the user is not using any pelvic belt: Seat the user
in the wheelchair and install the pelvic belt according
to the previous instructions of this manual, (pages
9 and 10). Define which shoulder harness type is
suitable for the user.
3. The following types are available:
i. Classic Style – for optimal distribution of support
and maximum stability.
ii. Contour Style - for women or individuals who want
to limit the amount of contact area between the
harness and the body.
iii. Zipper Open - to aid in frequent transfers and
ease of removal.
iv. Adjustable Stretch, Centre Opening - to aid in
frequent transfers and provide a more precise fit.
v. Trunk Strap - to increase range of motion when
shoulder rotation and reaching are required.
vi. Y-Style - for increased range of motion for one
arm while providing optimal support.
vii. Backpack Style – for maximum shoulder retraction
and minimal chest contact.
4. Place the desired anterior trunk support /shoulder
harness on chest with upper straps over the backrest.
5. Position straps between neck and shoulder joint.
Top Straps
i. Adjust each shoulder strap for comfortable fit
according to the user’s shoulder width and sitting
position.
ii. Attach to the solid backrest using the fasteners/strap
positioners, (sold separately from harness).
Lower Straps
iii. Identify optimal position for the lower straps on the
backrest without interfering with other positioning
devices (lateral supports, etc.).
iv. Install end mounting between the top of the pelvis and
the seat, (Fig.21.0).
v. Attach using the fasteners supplied.

INSTALLATION
SAFETY CHECK
Once the installation is finished, carry out the following
checks to ensure that the user is appropriately and safely
positioned.
If possible, ask the user to lean forward and to the sides to
test the fit.
Check that:
1. The buckles and adjustment straps are operating
properly.
2. The user sits comfortably in the seating and the
harness.
3. The harness is not too low or too high. The support
must not rub or cut into the users neck.
4. The mounting hardware is not interfering with any other
positioning accessories/devices on the wheelchair.
5. Adjust the harness if necessary.
• Harness Too High, (Fig.22.0).
• Harness Too Low, (Fig.23.0).
• Harness Fitted Correctly, (Fig.24.0).

INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION OF Y-STYLE HARNESS
The Y-Style harness is typically used when increased
range of motion for one arm is needed, (one shoulder
rotation).
The JAY Y-Style positioning harness provides control of
trunk rotation and independent shoulder retraction while
minimizing interferences with feeding tubes.
Installation steps.
1. Place the upper part of the Y-Strap above and below
the rotated shoulder and install belt anchors to the
backrest’s rear face, (Fig.25.0).
2. Stretch the lower strap diagonally across the trunk
and attach the lower part of the Y-Strap to the
backrest’s rear face, (Fig.26.0).
3. Using the tension straps on the top portion of the
Y-Strap, pull the rotated shoulder back until a proper
and comfortable position for the user is achieved,
(Fig.27.0).
