1Introduction
Thissection ofthe handbookwillguide youthrough the operation ofthe electricalsystem.
Furthertechnicaldetailsare contained in section 3 orin thesupporting technicalmanualavailablefrom

Forthe safe operationofall electricalequipment within yourLeisureVehicleitisimportant that you
read and fullyunderstand these instructions. If you are unsureofanypointplease contactyourdealer
/ distributorforadvice before use.
The systemhasa numberofkeycomponentsthat youwillneedto be familiarwithbefore attempting to
use thesystem, these are:
·The EC450 SeriesPowerSupplyUnit (PSU)-a combined mainsconsumerunitand 12V
controllerlocated in the front locker. On caravan versionsthisunit also containsthe provision
forthe Radio/CD head unit.
·The EC450 SeriesControlPanel(CP)-a remotelylocated usercontrolpanelused to turn
circuitson andoff and to displaybatteryandwatertankinformation. Thispanelusessimple
straightforward controlsand reliabledata communication tothePSU.
·Road Light Fuse Box-Thissmall unit, which isunique to caravans,islocated inthe front
offside bed box. The unit housesfusesforthe road lighting circuitsandsuppliesfromthe tow
vehicle, and also hasconnectors forthe optionalalarmsystemand AutomaticTrailerControl
(ATC)unit.

2.3Activating theSystem
The EC450 systemhasa shutdown feature that should be used whenthevehicleisinstorageorisnot
being used forlong periodsoftime. Thisallowsthe leisure electronics to be turned off when not
required tosave batterypower. When in theoff state the alarmand tracking systemsuppliesare still
active, most othersuppliesare turned off.
Before using the systemplease ensure the systemshutdown switchisin the on position (button in).
2.4Connecting totheMains230V supplyand Safetychecks
Foryoursafetyit isIMPORTANTthat you follow theseconnectionsinstructionseach timeyourLeisure
Vehicleisconnectedto a mainssupply. Thissection assumesthat the systemiscomplete andthat a
Leisurebatteryhasbeeninstalled (see 3.4).
A)Ensure suitabilityof theMains Supply.YourLeisure Vehicle shouldonlybe connected to an
approved supplythat meetsthe requirementsofBS7671 orrelevant harmonised standards. In
most casesthe site warden willhold information regarding suitabilityofsupply. Ifusing agenerator
you alsoneed to complywith the requirements/ instructionssupplied with the generator.Please
note thatsome electronicgenerators maynot be compatiblewithyourleisure system. Further
generatoroperationalinformation iscontained elsewhere inthismanual.
B)Switchthe PSUinternalPowerConverterOFF. Locate the green ‘Charger’powerswitch on the
PSUand ensure the switchisintheoff position (buttonout)before connectionto the mainssupply.
C)Connectthe Hook-up Lead. Firstlyconnect the supplied hook-up lead (orange cablewith blue
connectors) to the LeisureVehicleand then connect to themainssupply.
D)Check Residual Current Device operation. Locate the RCDwithin thePSUand ensurethe RCD
isswitched on(leverinup position). Press the ‘Test’button and confirmthat the RCD turnsoff
(leverindown position). Switch the RCD backto the on position (leverin up position).Ifthe test
button failed to operate theRCD see section 3.10.
E)Check Miniature CircuitBreakers. Locate the MCB’s within the PSU(adjacent to the RCD)and
ensure theyareallin the on (up)position. IfanyMCB’sfail to ‘latch’in the on position seesection
3.10.
F) Turnthe PSU ON. Locatethe black‘Shutdown’buttonand ensureitisintheon position (press
button in). Locate the green ‘Charger’switchon the PSU and turn totheon position (press button
in). The chargerswitchwill illuminate when turned on.
G) Check correctPolarity. Locate the ‘Reverse polarity’indicatoron the PSU and ensure that the
indicatorisNOTilluminated. Ifthe indicatorisilluminated see section3.10.
H)Check operation of equipment. It isnowsafe to operate the 12vand 230vequipment.
2.5Control Panel -ComponentLayout
Depending on yourtype of vehicle(caravan ormotorhome)the controlpanelwill varyinspecification.
Not all featuresarepresentinallvehicles. Please referto thefollowing diagramsto identifyyour
controlpanel.

2.6Control Panel Operation
·PowerButton. Press the powerbutton to turnthe leisure poweron. Press the buttonagain
to turnthe poweroff. The adjacent LED will illuminatewhenthepowerison, and also the
voltage oftheselected batterywillbe displayed on the voltage gauge.
·Pump Button. With the poweron, press the pump button to turnthe waterpump on. Press
the button again toturnthe pump off. The adjacent LEDwill illuminate when the pump ison,
and also the levelofthe watertankwillbe displayed on the watergauge.
·ViewLevels. To displaythe batteryvoltage levelsand the watertanklevelson the control
panelgauges, press the levelsbutton. The displaywillremain illuminated for10 seconds. It
ispossible to lockthe display‘on’to allow continuousdisplay.Thiscan be achievedby
pressing and holding the viewlevelsbutton for2-3 secondsuntilyou heara beep.To turn
thislocked feature off, eitherpress and hold the view levelsbutton again for2-3 secondsor
turn the poweroff and back on.
·BatterySelect. Bydefault,the leisure batteryisselected asthe powersource ifno mains
supplyispresent, orasthe batterytobe chargedwhenthe mainssupplyisavailable. To
changetheselected battery,press thevehiclebatteryselect button. The selectedbatteryis
indicated byan LED adjacent to the caravan orcarlogo (forcaravans) orthe LED’ssituated
to the front (vehicle)orrear(leisure)ofthe motorhomelogo (formotorhomes).
·Mains on indication. When connected to a 230vsupplythe LEDwith a “lightning strike”
shownwillbe illuminated.
·Charging whenthe vehicle engine is running. When thevehicle engineisrunning both
the vehiclebatteryand the leisure batteryLED’swill flash inunison toindicate thattheyare
connected togetherand arebeing chargedbythe vehicle.
·CabinLights Button. Formotorhomes, with the poweron, press the cabinlightsbutton to
turn the main lighting supplyon oroff.
·Awning Light Button. Formotorhomes, with the poweron, press the awning light button to
turn the awning light on oroff.
·FrostProtectButton. Formotorhomesif/ when fitted, with the poweron, press the frost
protect button to turnon thewatertankheating system. The adjacent LEDwillilluminate to
showthat the tankheating systemison.

2.7Operation whiledriving
The EC400-450systemisdesigned to shutdown partsofthe systemwhile the engine isrunning. This
isto meet Electro MagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulationsand to ensure the safe operation ofthe
caravanormotorhome.
Please ensure the systemshutdown switchon the PSU isin the “on”(button in)position before driving
(see 2.3). Thiswillensure the electronicsystemisactiveand will therefore be able to controlthe
charging process, supplythe refrigeratorand monitorothersystemcircuits.
On motorhomesif/ when fitted, designated 12vsockets, en-routereading lightsand en-route heating
willremain operationalwhile theengine isrunning.

The Residual Current Device(RCD) is basicallyprovided
toprotectthe userfromlethalelectricshock. The RCD will
turnoff (trip) ifthe current flowing inthe liveconductor
doesnotfullyreturndownthe neutralconductor, i.e. some
current ispassing through apersondowntoearthor
throughafaultyappliance.
Toensurethe RCD isworkingcorrectly, thetest button
should beoperatedeachtimethe vehicleisconnectedto
the mainssupply(seesection 2.4)
The MiniatureCircuit Breakers(MCB’s) operatein asimilar
waytotraditional fusesand areprovidedtoprotectthe
wiring installation fromoverloador short circuit. If an
overload occurstheMCB will switchoffthe supply. Ifthis
occursyou shouldinvestigatethe causeofthe fault before
switchingtheMCB back on.

3.2BatteryCharger
The EC400-450systemincorporatesan intelligent three-stage batterycharger/ powerconverter.
During stage 1 the batteryvoltage isincreased graduallywhile the current islimited to startthe
charging process and protect the battery. At stage 2 the voltage risesto 14.4Vtodeliverthe bulk
charge tothebattery.When thebatteryischarged, the voltage isdecreased at stage 3 to 13.6Vto
delivera float charge to maintainthe batteryinthe fullycharged state. The chargercan be left
switched on continuouslyasrequired.
The batterycharger/ powerconverteralsoprovidespowerto the leisure equipment when the mains
supplyisconnected. Thismodule suppliesDC totheleisure equipment up to amaximumof25 Amps
(300 Watts), therefore the available powerisdistributed between the leisureload and the battery,with
the leisure load taking priorityasperthe following example:

WARNING

3.3SmartCharging
On EC468 and EC469 PSU’s, the systemincorporatesa smart charge feature, which monitors both
leisure andvehiclebatteriesand automaticallyadjustsand directsthe chargerpower(and solarpower
ifa solarpanelisinstalled)to maintain the leisureandvehiclebatteriesat an optimallevel.
3.4LeisureBattery
A)Type / Selection
Foroptimumperformance and safetyitisessentialthat onlya proprietarybrand LEISUREbatteryis
used with a typicalcapacityof75 to 120Ah(Ampere / hours). AnormalcarbatteryisNOTsuitable.
Thisbatteryshouldalwaysbe connected when the systemisin use.
The PSUisconfigured to workwith standard lead acid leisure batteries, and in most casesisalso
compatiblewiththelatest rangeofAbsorbed Glass Matt (AGM)batteries. Beforefittingnon-standard
batteriespleasecheckthat the charging profile described in 3.2 issuitableforthe type ofbatteryby
referring to the batterydocumentation orbatterymanufacturer.
Some vehicleinstallationscan caterfortwoleisure batteriesconnected in parallel. In these casesit is
recommended that two identicalbatteriesare used.
The batteryfeed isfitted with an inline fuse between the batteryandtheelectricalharness, andis
usuallylocated immediatelyoutside the batterycompartment orwithin 500mmofthe battery. The
maximumrating ofthisfuse is20Aperbattery.Ifa singlebatteryisfitted to amotorhome, thisfuse
maybe increased to40A,howeveriftwobatteriesare fitted eachbatteryshouldbe fused at a
maximumof20A.
B)Installation & Removal
Alwaysdisconnect the 230vmainssupplyandturn thePSU green chargerswitchto the off position
(buttonout)before removing orinstalling the battery.
When connecting the battery,ensure that the correct polarityisobserved (blackis negative[-] and red
ispositive [+])and that the terminalsare securelyfastened. Crocodile clipsmustnot be used.
WARNING
Explosive gasesmaybe present at the battery.Takecare to prevent flamesand sparks in thevicinity
ofthe batteryand do not smoke.
C)Operation / Servicing
Undernormalcircumstancesit shouldnot be necessaryto remove thebatteryotherthanforroutine
inspection ofthe terminalsand “toppingup”ofthe batteryfluidwhere applicable. Please see
instructionssupplied withthe battery.
Note: Do not overdischarge thebattery.One ofthe most common causesofbatteryfailureiswhen
the batteryisdischarged below therecommended levelofapproximately10v. Discharginga battery
belowthisfigure can causepermanent damage to one ormore ofthe cellswithin the battery.
To preventoverdischarge, the EC400-450 systemincorporatesa batteryprotectcircuit that warnsthe
users and thendisconnectsthe batterieswhen theyfall belowset values.
Ifthe poweristurned on and theleisurebatterylevelfallsbelow 9Va warning beepwill be heardand
the leisure batterygauge10VLEDwill flash.To cancelthe warning, press the levelsbutton.
Ifthe poweristurned on and thevehicle batterylevelfallsbelow10.9Va warning beep will be heard
and the vehicle batterygauge 10VLED will flash. To cancelthe warning,press the levelsbutton.
These warningswill not be repeated unless the powerswitch isturned off and on again. Thisisto
ensure thewarning doesnot become a nuisance.

levelof10v.
Thiscut off onlyappliestopowerdrawn fromthe
batterybythe leisure equipment that iscontrolled by
the controlpanelpowerswitch; itwill not protect the
batteryfromdischarge bypermanentlyconnected
equipment.
3.512 VoltDC Fuses
WARNING
When replacing fusesalwaysreplace a fusewiththecorrect value. NEVER replace witha highervalue /
ratingasthiscould damage the wiring harness. Ifa replacement fuse ‘blows’ do not keep replacing the
fuse asyou could damage the wiring harness. Pleaseinvestigate the fault and contactyourdealer.
The following table showsthe fuse allocation forthe 15 fusesfitted to the PSU. Please note that fuses
are dependant onPSUversions, so not allfusesmaybe present.

3.6SolarChargeManagement
EC468 and EC469 PSU’sincorporatea built-in solarcharge management feature, which will control
the input froma separate solarpaneland regulator. Depending on the charge state ofthe batteries,
the solarpowerwillbe directed to the required battery,and continuouslymonitored to ensure optimum
operation. Forthissystemto operate intelligently, the shutdown button shouldbe left switched on. If
the shutdown button isturned off then the solarpanelwillcharge thevehiclebatteryonly.
3.7SystemStatusand Configuration display
On the EC449, 468 & 469 PSU, the unit containsanLCD displayand two controlbuttonsthat allow
systeminformation to be viewed.
Press the top yellow‘select’buttonto change the itembeing viewed. Press the bottomred ‘change’
button tochange the setting.
Bothbuttonsworkon a continuousloop, so if youwantto return to an itemorsetting keep pressing the
button untilthe required itemisreached.
The EC468 and EC469 PSU’salsocontaina statusdisplayunit that can be used to view system
information. Press the topyellow ‘select’button to change the itembeingviewed.
3.8WaterSystemOperation
The controlpanelpump button operatesthe internal(onboard)waterpump. Thispump willdraw
waterfromthe internal(onboard)watertank(iffitted)orthe externalwaterinlet, depending on the
position ofthe manualsupplyselectorvalve.
The systemalso incorporatesa separate poweredwaterinlet that can be usedwith an external
fillerpump to fill the internal(onboard)watertank(iffitted).
The watertanks(fresh &waste, where fitted)incorporate alevelwarning featureto warnthe user
when the freshwaterleveldropsbelow 25%orwhen the wastewaterlevelreaches100%.
Ifthe waterpump poweristurned on andthefresh waterleveldropsto below25%a warning beep will
be heardand the fresh gauge emptyLEDwillflash. To cancelthe warning, pressthe levelsbutton.
Ifthe waterpump poweristurned on andthe waste waterlevelrisesto full(100%) a warningbeep will
be heardand the waste gauge fullLEDwillflash. To cancelthe warning, press the levelsbutton.

These warningswill not be repeated unless the waterpump powerswitchisturned off and on again.
Thisisto ensurethe warning doesnot become a nuisance.
3.9FrostProtection
On vehiclesfitted withwatertankfrost protection, the controlpanelfrost protect switch canbe used to
turn the featureon oroff.
With protection on, the systemmonitors the tankwatertemperature andwaterleveland willcontrolthe
tankheaters accordingly.Ifthe fresh orwastewaterlevelsare less than 25%the appropriate heater
willbe turned off to prevent overheating ordamage to the element.
There are two typesofsystememployed,bothworkingina verysimilarway.Onesystemuses
heaters with built-in thermostats; the otherusesseparate temperature probesinthe tank. Both types
switch onat 4-5C and off at 8-10C
3.10ElectricStepOperation
On vehiclesfitted with anelectricstep, thisisoperated bya buttonneartheentrydoor. Press and
releasethe button to movethe step in orout. One press ofthe button willmove the stepout, a further
press willmove the step inagain.
Ifthe engine isstarted the step willmove inautomatically,aftera shortwarning buzzer. Ifthis
operation failsdue to an obstacle a buzzerwillsound continuouslyto warn that thestep isstillout, and
therefore requiresyourattention.
3.11Warningsand Alerts
Ifthe vehicle engine isstarted whilstthe caravan ormotorhome isconnected tothe 230vsupply,a
warning beep will be heard. Thisisto warnyou to removethe230vsupplybeforedriving away.
When the vehicleengine isrunning boththevehicle batteryand the leisure batteryLED’swillflash in
unison to indicate that theyare connected togetherandare being charged bythe vehicle.
Stepoperation (motorhomesonly), iftheengine isstarted with the step in the out position, the stepwill
move in automatically,aftera shortwarning buzzer.Ifthisoperationfailsdue to an obstacle abuzzer
willsound continuouslyto warn that the stepisstillout, and therefore requiresyourattention.
Lowwaterlevelandwaste tank, ifthe fresh waterleveldropsto below25%awarning beep willbe
heardandthefresh gaugeemptyLEDwill flash.To cancelthe warning,press the levelsbutton. Ifthe
waste waterlevelrisesto full(100%) awarning beep willbe heard and the wastegauge fullLEDwill
flash. To cancelthewarning, press thelevelsbutton.
Lowvoltagewarning and cut off, ifthe poweristurnedon and the leisure batterylevelfallsbelow9Va
warning beep will be heard and the leisure batterygauge 10VLED will flash. To cancelthe warning,
press the levelsbutton. Ifthe poweristurned onand the vehiclebatteryisselected (being used)and
