To ensure the RCD isworking
correctly, the test buttonshould be
operated each time the vehicleis
connected to the mainssupply(see
section 2.3)
The Miniature CircuitBreakers
(MCB’s) operate in a similarwayto
traditionalfusesand are provided to
protect thewiring installation from
overload orshortcircuit. Ifan
overload occurs the MCBwillswitch

3.2Generator Usage
Caution should be used before connecting a generatorto yourcaravanormotorhome.
WARNING
Neverstart orstopthegeneratorwhile electricalloadsare connectedand switched on.Start the engine, let
it stabilise and thenconnect the electricalload. When stopping the generator, disconnect the electricalload
and let engine stabilise before switchingoff.
Whilst some generators use electronicinvertertechnology, others use a more basicprinciple togenerate the
230Vsupply. Preference should be tochoosea generatorwhich producesa consistent sinusoidalwave form
with accurate voltage control.
The ReversePolaritywarning light on the PSU mayilluminate when using a Generator. Thisisa normalside
effect when using some typesofgenerator. Insteadofconnecting the neutralconductorto earth, some
generators centretap the earth connection making both neutraland live conductors 110Vaboveearth. This
110Vdifference causestheneon polarityindicatorto illuminate.
In most casesit issafe to use a generator, but pleaseconsult the generatorhandbookforfurtherinformation.

3.3BatteryCharger
The systemincorporatesan intelligent three-stagebatterycharger.
During stage 1 the batteryvoltage isincreased graduallywhile the current islimited to startthe charging
process and protect the battery. At stage 2 the voltage risesto 14.4Vtodeliverthe bulkcharge to the battery.
When the batteryischarged, the voltageisdecreased at stage 3 to 13.6Vto delivera float charge to maintain
the batteryin the fullycharged state. The chargercanbe left switched oncontinuouslyasrequired.
The batterycharger/ powerconverteralsoprovidespowerto the leisure equipment when the mainssupplyis
connected. Thismodule suppliesDC to the leisure equipment up to a maximumof25 Amps(300 Watts),
therefore the available powerisdistributed betweenthe leisureload and the battery, with the leisure load taking
priorityasperthe following example:
Leisureload Availablepowerforbatterycharging
5A 20A
10A 15A
15A 10A
20A 5A
WARNING
Underheavyloadsthe BatteryChargercase maybecome hot. ALWAYSensurethe ventilation slotshave
a clearflow ofair. Do not place combustible materialsagainst / adjacent to the charger.
3.4LeisureBattery
A)Type / Selection
Foroptimumperformance and safetyitisessentialthat onlya proprietarybrand LEISUREbatteryisused and it
issuggested to select a batteryfromthe NCC Verified BatteryScheme with a typicalcapacityof75 to 120Ah
(Ampere / hours). Depending on the prospective use ofthe vehicle the correct type shouldbe selected (A, Bor
C). AnormalcarbatteryisNOTsuitable.Thisbatteryshould alwaysbe connectedwhen the systemisinuse.
The PSUisconfigured to workwith standard lead acid leisure batteries, and in most casesisalso compatible
with the latest range ofAbsorbed Glass Matt (AGM)batteries. The systemisalso suitable forLithiumbatteries
with built-inBatteryManagement SystemsBMS).Before fitting non-standardbatteriespleasecheckthat the
charging profile described in 3.3issuitable forthe typeofbatterybyreferring to the batterydocumentation or
batterymanufacturer.
Some vehicleinstallationscan caterfortwoleisure batteriesconnected in parallel. In these casesit is
recommended that two identicalbatteriesare used.
The batteryfeed isfitted with an inline fuse between the batteryandtheelectricalharness, andisusually
located immediatelyoutside thebatterycompartment orwithin500mmofthe battery. The maximumrating of
thisfuse is20Aperbattery.Ifa singlebatteryisfitted to a motorhome, thisfuse could beup to 40A, howeverif
two batteriesare fitted each batteryshouldbe fused at a maximumof20A.

Issue 01Page 16of2210th July2018
B)Installation & Removal
Alwaysdisconnect the 230Vmainssupplyand turn the PSU green chargerswitch to the off position (button out)
before removing orinstalling thebattery.
When connecting the battery, ensure that the correct polarityisobserved (blackis negative[-] and red is
positive [+])and that the terminalsare securelyfastened. Crocodile clipsmust not be used.
WARNING
Explosive gasesmaybe present at the battery.Takecare to prevent flamesand sparks in thevicinityof
the batteryand do not smoke.
C)Operation / Servicing
Undernormalcircumstancesit shouldnot be necessaryto remove thebatteryotherthanforroutineinspection
ofthe terminalsand “topping up”ofthe batteryfluidwhere applicable. Please see instructionssupplied with the
battery.
Note: Do not overdischarge thebattery. One ofthe most common causesofbatteryfailureiswhen the battery
isdischarged belowthe recommended levelofapproximately10V. Discharginga batterybelow thisfigure can
cause permanent damage to one ormore ofthe cellswithin the battery.
To preventoverdischarge, the powercontrolsystemincorporatesa batteryprotectcircuit that warnstheusers
and thendisconnectsthe batterieswhen theyfall belowset values.
Ifa warning isactivea beepwill be emitted bythe controlpaneland information willbe shown onthe screen.
To cancelthe warning, press the selectbutton. These warningswillnot berepeated unless the powerswitchis
turned off and on again.Thisisto ensure thewarning doesnot become a nuisance.
