acci ental starting the engine when setting up, transporting, a justing or making repairs.

excessively. Excessive vibration is an in ication of amage. Repair mower as necessary.
•Dress properly. Do not operate the mower when barefoot or wearing open san als. Wear only soli shoes
with goo traction when mowing.
•Do not operate the machine while un er the influence of alcohol or rugs.
•Do not operate on slopes greater than 15 egrees.
•Never tamper with safety evices. Check their proper operation regularly.

REQUIRED ASSEMBLY
FRONT WHEEL CASTER ASSEMBLY
1.Remove single nut an washers from caster shaft.
2.Place one washer on the shaft of the caster/wheel sub-assembly.
3.Sli e same shaft through the bearing/frame with wheel towar s the groun .
4.Place the other washer on the shaft; it shoul be resting on the top bearing.
5.Threa nyloc jam nut onto shaft.
6.Tighten nut snuggly, making sure shaft threa s enter the nyloc of the nut.
Over-tightening this nut will bind caster.
7.Repeat process for other front si e.
REAR WHEEL ASSEMBLY
1.Remove cotter pin from axle.
2.Sli e washer (NB149) if necessary an wheel (valve stem out) onto axle an replace
cotter pin.
3.Ben cotter pin so it will not fall out.
4.Repeat process for other wheel.
OFFSET & CENTER TOW HITCH BAR ASSEMBLY
1.Lay out parts accor ing to the iagram.
2.Insert part 661A into part 12543 an pin with the hitch pin (H11).
3.Insert part 20954 into part 661A. Choose from the 3 holes to set the esire hitch length.
Pin with a hitch pin.
4.Part 12543 sli es into the front tube of the frame. Choose from the 5 holes to arrange
esire offset. Pin with a hitch pin (H11).
5.Eliminate step 2 for hitching from the center bracket. Only one metho can be use at a
time.

OPERATING YOUR TRAIL MOWER
INTENDED USE
This Trail Mower is esigne to pro uce a quality finish cut on lawns, golf courses, etc. It is
not esigne to clear brush or cut saplings. Your Trail Mower shoul be towe behin an
ATV, a golf cart, lawn tractor, or similar approve vehicle. It is not meant for spee s
excee ing 5 mph.
ATTACHING TRAILMOWER TO TOW VEHICLE
•Place mower behin vehicle an back vehicle up to esire attaching position.
•When offsetting Trail Mower o so to si e opposite the ischarge of the tow vehicle.
•Attach tow hitch (661) to the swivel hitch with hitch pin (H11). Make certain hitch
pin goes completely through each piece an is clippe to prevent acci ental
separation.
•Attach re safety tether (6736) to both the towing vehicle an to the TrailMower
toggle switch (685SP), locate on the throttle housing (6013). Its purpose is to
manually stop mower engine or to stop mower engine in case the two machines
become separate . (See Motor Base Detail #20).
•It is extremely important the safety tether is secured properly to both the toggle
switch and the towing vehicle.
STARTING THE ENGINE
See engine manufacturer’s instructions for the type an amount of oil an fuel use . Trail
Mowers with electric start engines will nee a battery (sol separately). Swisher recommen s
using a stan ar “U1” lawn & gar en battery.
The operation of any mower can pro uce foreign objects to be thrown into the
eyes, resulting in severe eye amage. Always wear certifie safety glasses or
wi e-vision safety goggles over spectacles before starting any cutting machine an
while operating such a machine.
The operation of any cutter pro uces soun waves that are amaging to the
human ear. Ear protection is recommen e .
CAUTION!
Tragic acci ents can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of
chil ren. Chil ren are often attracte to the machine an the mowing
activity. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw them.

Engine must be level to accurately check an fill oil. Do not overfill.
•Make sure the tow vehicle parking brake is set, mower is level, an bla es are isengage .

•Check spark plug wire, oil, an fuel.
•Check all electrical connections (See Schematics).
•Make sure toggle switch is turne “ON” an the re tether is properly attache .
•Set engine i le to “CHOKE” position.
•With feet clear of mower eck, turn key switch to the “START” position an release when
engine begins to run.
•Set engine i le at esire RPM.
BREAKING IN YOUR MOWER
•Set vehicle parking brake or chock wheels to prevent acci ental rolling.
•Start engine properly.
•Slowly, engage bla e control.
•In a safe environment, i.e. no chil ren, allow bla es to rotate an engine to i le for 5
minutes. This breaks in the belts an the engine.
•Stop mower properly.
MOWER HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
•A just while mower is not running.
•The cutting range is approximately 1” to 5.5”. The height shoul be measure from the
groun to the bla e tip without the engine running.
•
Rotate height a just crank han les (H7N) in a clockwise irection to lift the mower eck. A
counter-clockwise irection is use to lower the mower eck.
•Make sure the height a justment is the same at si e crank han les. For best results, see
“SUGGESTED PRACTICE” section. Gra uate scales are for reference only, not the
actual cutter height.
•Place crank han le in a retracte position to maintain height a justment.
STARTING TO MOW
•A just the cutting height.
•Double check vehicle to mower attachment.
•Start mower engine properly.
•Slowly, activate the bla e engage lever by rotating it forwar an left until the lever locks
into place.
•Carefully mount tow vehicle an start mowing slowly.
STOPPING THE MOWING SESSION
•Pull safety tether to shut toggle switch “OFF”. If the engine fails to stop or if the safety
tether has become inoperable, then use Alternative Stopping Metho .
CAUTION!
SHUT OFF MOWER ENGINE AND REMOVE SPARK PLUG WIRE FROM
SPARK PLUG BEFORE MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO THE MOWER.

ALTERNATIVE STOPPING METHOD
•Bring vehicle to complete stop, shut off engine, an set parking brake.
•Disengage bla e engage lever.
•Manually shut toggle an key switches to their “OFF” positions.
•Always remember to remove keys to avoi irresponsible usage.
TRANSPORTING MOWER
•Stop mower properly.
•Place mower eck in its highest position.
•If transporting without the use of a tow vehicle, remove spark plug wire an place
where it cannot contact the spark plug.
SUGGESTED MOWING PRACTICES
•Operate mower engine at full throttle to assure the best cutting performance an
maximum material ischarge.
•Allow wet grass to ry. Clumps of wet grass will collect un er the mowing eck.
•Mowing shoul be starte with tow vehicle in low gear an increase only as safe
mowing con itions permit. This spee shoul not excee 5 mph.
•
The average lawn shoul be cut to approximately 2.5” uring the cool season an to
over 3” uring the hot months.
•For a healthier lawn an better aesthetics, your lawn shoul be mowe often an
after mo erate growth.
•When cutting high or ense grass areas go slowly. Some areas may nee to be
mowe twice. The secon cut shoul be at 90 egrees to the first, if possible.
•Mowing thick or high grass. Raise rear height crank han les to .5”-.75” a
bove the
other two han les.
•Creating a manicured lawn. Lower rear height crank han le to .25”-.5” below
front of eck. This allows grass bla es to be cut twice. It also continually cuts
clippings to pro uce a mulching effect.
GENERAL TROUBLE SHOOTING
•The mower is not cutting level.
oLevel eck, making sure the si e crank-han les are equal.
oCheck air pressure of all tires; make sure they are equal an to
manufacturers specifications.
oExamine bla es for amage, while mower engine is not running.
•The engine will not start.
o
Disengage bla es, turn toggle switch to “ON” position, check battery an all
other electrical connections, an inspect spark plug an wire.
oCheck for fuel in the engine.
•Engine runs poorly.
oSee engine manual.
oCheck throttle a juster.
oReplace fuel, clean fuel filter an fuel line.
IF PROBLEMS PERSIST HAVE A QUALIFIED MECHANIC SERVICE THE
MOWER. NEVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT THAT YOU ARE
NOT SURE IS CORRECT. DOING SO CAN CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS.

MOWER MAINTENANCE
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
The warranty on this Trail Mower oes not cover items that have been subjecte to operator abuse or negligence.
To receive full value from the warranty, operator must maintain unit as instructe in this manual.
Some a justments will nee to be ma e perio ically to maintain your unit properly.
All a justments in this manual shoul be checke at least once each season.
BEFORE EACH USE
•Check engine oil level on a level surface. Check twice to insure an accurate rea ing.
•Check con ition of air filter; clean an replace as necessary.
•Check bla e operation; keep bla es in goo con ition.
•Check for loose fasteners an tighten them as nee e .
AFTER EACH USE
•Keep bla es sharp.
•Remove fresh grass clippings with gar en hose.
•Grass clippings can har en to the un ersi e shoul be scrape out with a putty knife.
•Keep flui s at proper levels.
•Cover unit to prevent rain or other ebris buil up. Definitely cover the engine.
BEFORE AND/OR AFTER EACH SEASON
•Replace the spark plug.
•Clean or replace the air filter.
•A new spark plug an clean air filter assure proper air-fuel mixture an help your engine run better an
last longer.
•Check bla es an belts for wear. Replace as necessary.
STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
CAUTION! Do not store engine in oors or other poorly ventilate area. Keep engine away from gas
appliances where fumes coul contact open flame, pilot lights, or sparks.
If engine is to be stored for 30 or more days, prepare unit as follows:
•Drain fuel outsi e into an approve container.
•Start engine properly an run until unit is out of fuel.
•Let engine cool.
•Remove remaining gasoline from carburetor an fuel tank to prevent gum eposits from forming
within the engine. Gum eposits can cause malfunction in the engine.
•Store mower with bla es isengage to prevent belts from being permanently stretche .
BLADE CARE AND SERVICE
For best results bla es must be kept sharp. The bla es can be sharpene with a few strokes of a file or grin ing
wheel. Do not attempt to sharpen bla es while they are on the mower. Disconnect spark plug wire before
servicing unit.
Important: Replace blades that have been damaged or deeply nicked.
Important: Check blade and spindle hardware on a regular basis to make sure nuts are tight.
Only a qualifie mechanic shoul be use for any
a justments, isassembly or other kin of repairs.
