Thank you for choosing the SWR® amplite™power amplifier!
The ampliteis a result of our ongoing efforts to improve the lives
of bassists everywhere, and is part of a completely new generation of
innovative, lightweight bass amplification products.
Thanks to the laws of physics, bass instruments in general require
substantially more power for accurate amplification than their high
frequency counterparts and, until recently, have required extremely
heavy transformers and bulky power supplies to produce this needed
power. The amplite was made possible by recent advances in
technology that have finally made powerful, lightweight amplifiers and
speaker enclosures a reality. Further, the ampliteis the direct result
of exhaustive research and development efforts and countless hours of
real-world playing applications that, together, ensured that the SWR
standards of quality, excellence and reliability were successfully met.
The SWR amplite is nothing short of revolutionary, and provides
400* watts of power in a 3-pound (1.36 kg) package that can be easily
“daisy-chained” for multiple amp rigs. Ideal as a partner for our match-
ing headlite™ bass head, the amplite can be carried in an
accessory bag or rack-mounted with the optional rack-mount kit (007-
7798-000). Two ampliteswill occupy a single rack space and offer
800** watts of power—at a total of 6 pounds (2.72 kg)!
We’re confident that you will enjoy your new amplite for many
years to come, and many thanks for “Stepping up” to SWR.
*300 watts for 100V Japanese models.
**600 watts for 100V Japanese models.
A. INPUT*You can use this input or the rear panel Input
{I} to connect to your preamp's output ("PRE OUT" on the
SWR headlite). If you use the front panel Input, the rear
panel Input is automatically disabled.
NOTE: Using the PRE OUT jack on the headlite will
enable you to control the volume of as many amplite
power amplifiers as you have connected by using the
master volume on the headlite amplifier.
B. VOLUMEControls the ouptut level of the amplite
power amplifier.
C. POWER INDICATORThe SWR logo illuminates when
the unit is ON.
D. POWER AMP LEVEL METERThese four LEDs indicate
the power amp signal level. The 0dB LED indicates that
the amplifier is near maximum output power. The +3dB
LED indicates that the amplifier is exceeding designed
output levels and that the Volume {B} level should be
reduced to prevent the amplifier from overheating and
shutting down.
WARNING: Due to the compact design of your amplite
power amplifier it is very sensitive to heat and adequate
ventilation must be maintained. If the amplifier overheats
it will shut down until it cools off, generally for a very
short period of time.
* NOTE: The amplite's 1/4" jacks {A, H,and I} are balanced "TRS" (Tip/Ring/Sleeve) outputs:
Tip=positive (+)
Ring=negative (–)
Sleeve=ground.
While standard shielded "TS" (Tip/Sleeve) "mono" guitar cables can certainly be used, the use of "stereo" TRS cables may improve the
signal-to-noise ratio and/or reduce hum, especially when longer connections are required.

E. POWER SWITCHSwitches the unit ON-OFF.
F. IEC POWER CORD SOCKETConnect the included
power cord to a grounded A/C electrical outlet in
accordance with the voltage and frequency ratings
specified on the top panel of your amplifier.
G. SPEAKER OUTPUTSConnect speaker cabinets here
using the Speakon® connectors. The total speaker load
must be minimum and capable of handling
watts ( watts for V Japanese models). Read Speaker
Guidelines below before making speaker connections.
CAUTION: The speaker output cables have
voltage present on BOTH conductors and
the amplifier will shut down if either one comes into
contact with a grounded surface.
CAUTION: Any exposed metal on plug
jackets or cabinet input panels must not
touch ground when speaker cables are connected; use
insulated (plastic) plug jackets whenever possible.
H. PASSTHROUGH*An output copy of the input signal
for connecting (daisy-chaining) additional power amps.
I. INPUT*This is an alternate input to the front panel
Input {A}. You can use either a /" plug or an XLR plug
with this combo input.
•DO NOT connect a speaker load with a impedance
total below the minimum rating of your amplifier
to prevent damage to your equipment.
•DO NOT connect speaker(s) with a power handling
capacity total that is less than the power output
rating of your amplifier to prevent damage to
your equipment.
•ALWAYS switch your system power OFF before
connecting or disconnecting speakers.
•ONLY use unshielded speaker cable of 18 gauge or
heavier (16 or 14 gauge) for speaker connections.
Shielded instrument cable WILL NOT work and
may damage your equipment.
•ONLY connect one amplifier to each speaker load.
Two amplifiers connected to a single load WILL
NOT work and may damage your equipment.
The speaker illustration (left) shows the impedance
load totals for various speaker combinations
(=ohms). The ideal speaker impedance load is
equal to the minimum impedance rating of your
amplifier. Note that using speakers of unmatched
impedances will result in an unequal distribution
of power with most of the power going to the
lower impedance speakers.
Operating below the amp's minimum
impedance rating can overheat your amplifier
and cause damage. Operating above the amp's
minimum impedance rating, while safe, reduces
the amplifier’s maximum power output.

and speakers (including a look at impedance and
power rating issues), visit the Support area of the SWR
