1 SDC Sedona Controller Workbench Installation
1. Introduction
SDC-30 controllers use the open source Sedona framework. The SDC controllers are programmed either
with the dedicated Sedona Workbench or with AX Workbench. The Sedona Workbench is a dedicated
programming tool for Sedona products.
The AX Workbench is a much wider tool used with Niagara Framework products e.g. JACE, Hawk and
TONN. The SDC-30 controllers can be programmed using AX Workbench range products, allowing the
existing AX Workbench users easily integrate the SDC controller programming into the AX Workbench
Suite.
In this application note both stand-alone Sedona Workbench as well as Niagara AX workbench installation is
reviewed.
2. Sedona Workbench Installation
Sedona Workbench is the dedicated tool for programming SDC-30 controllers and SDC-TS touchscreen
devices.
The Sedona workbench is available for downloaded from SyxthSense web-site, or supplied on the Sedona
Workbench CD.
To download from SyxthSense web-site, go to the Support Forum:-
http://www.syxthsense.com/support1.php
To access Support Forum you need to register, and the access rights need to be elevated to Partner level.
After registration please contact support@syxthsense.com to change the access right levels.
After logging in Search from the Support Menu entry “SDC Sedona Controller Range” and “Software”.
From here download the “Sedona Workbench Bundle”.
After downloading the zip-file, unzip the file. This creates folder “SDC Customer CD”. From this select
subfolder “Sedona Workbench v1.0.47 Software”, and run setup.exe. Follow the instructions.
Note. If installing under Windows 7, please make sure to run the setup.exe as “Run As Administrator”. To do this “right
mouse click” on the setup.exe and select this option.
Installation creates “Workbench” icon on the desktop. Double-click this to run the Sedona Workbench
software.
Note. Under Windows 7, please make sure that the Sedona Workbench is run as administrator. To do this, search for the
Sedona installation folder and the executable called wb_w.exe. This is installed e.g. in directory
./Sedona/SedonaWorkbench-1.0.47/bin/wb_w.exe. To configure, highlight wb_w.exe and select properties, and tick the
box “Run As Administrator”. If the software is not run as administrator, the Host ID is changed every time when the
software is run, and the software licensing will not work.

After running the software (wb_w.exe), the software will automatically connect to niagaraCentral licensing
server. The Sedona Workbench will run 30 days in the demo, after which it will stop working.
1. If it is desired to run the software in the intial full demo mode, please enter the registration details on the
niagaraCentral web-site. The web-site will automatically send a temporary license file. Follow the
instructions with the email to install the license file.
2. To license fully the software, please send HostID to support@syxthsense.com and we will register the
software and send you back the license file. This needs to be installed in the folder
./Sedona/SedonaWorkbench-1.0.47/licenses.
Next time when the software is run, it connects again to niagaraCentral licensing service and the software is
permanently licensed, and now the controller programming can be started.

3. AX Workbech Installation
Niagara AX Workbench is widely used programming tool for Niagara Framework devices. This tool is often
branded by different companies, but in essence the core AX Workbench remains the same. Typical versions
of the AX Workbench include Tridium’s Niagara AX Workbench, Trend’s TONN AX Workbench, Honeywell’s
Coach AX and Invensys IA Series Workbench.
It is possible to program the SDC-30 Sedona controllers with the standard AX Workbench software without
the need of having Sedona Workbench (AX Workbench works with SDC subject to Sedona library files are
installed and Sedona license option is included with the AX Workbench).
The possibility of using AX Workbench allows the SDC controllers to become integral part of the existing
Tool’s Suite, and minimises the learning curve.
The installation of the Sedona to the AX Workbench depends on the AX Workbench version.
1.1.1.1 Sedona Installation on AX Workbench Versions 3.4.xx or 3.5.xx
With these versions copy the Sedona image files to the Niagara installation. You can download the Sedona
image file from www.syxthsense.com support section. The image file is called
Sedona_Folder_For_AX3.4and3.5.zip and it is located on the support section in the Support Menu entry
“SDC Sedona Controller Range” and “Software”. From here download the “AX Workbench Sedona Upgrade
Files”.
After downloading file copy the Sedona folder to your installation as described below.

Copy and add all files and folders in the ‘Sedona’ folder of the support
image pack into this folder:

1.1.1.2 Sedona Installation on AX Workbench Versions 3.6.xx or later
The Sedona will work with version 3.6.xxx or later only if the Sedona is a licensed feature in the license file.
You can see this by opening your existing license file by WorkPad and searching for Sedona license line. If
this is not the case there are three options:-
1. Request Sedona license feature from your AX Workbench Supplier and continue installation as below.
2. Use AX Workbench versions 3.4.xx or 3.5.xx instead (see previous section for Sedona installation).
3. Install Sedona Workbench tool and use it for the programming of the SDC controllers (you can still use
your existing AX Workbench license, this is copied to Sedona license folder from
“Niagara/Niagara3.6.xx/license/” folder after running the Sedona Workbench first time. When the
Sedona Workbench connects to the NiagaraCentral licensing service, just close this window. Do Not
try to license it through NiagaraCentral as your computer has already License for Workbench 3.6.xx
and Niagara license can only apply to one Host ID at the time).
