Tactical Controls Limited Time and Temperature Controller
Instruction Manual
Introduction
This specification describes an operator panel used to control the operation of a ultra-sonic
cleaning unit.
This cleaning unit consists of a small stainless steel tank, filled with cleaning liquid into which
items to be cleaned are immersed. The whole is caused to vibrate at 30KHz. Microscopic,
cavitation bubbles within the fluid implode and hammer out adhered "dirt" from items to be
cleaned.
The vibration process itself causes some heating of the tank fluid, but most units require the
application of additional heat for control at a given set temperature. The cleaning process is set
to run for a set time and then the unit is automatically switched off.

Description
The operator panel consists of a single Printed Circuit Board (PCB) which houses the power
supply, sensor input conditioning circuitry, microcontroller, 7-segment Light Emitting Diode
(LED) display for temperature and timer indication, status indicating LEDs, control and setting
push buttons, and output circuitry for temperature and timer.
The operator panel is mounted on the fascia plate inside the cleaning unit using six nuts and
washers through six studs on the fascia plate and its distance behind the fascia plate is fixed by
six spacers. Both the display and the push buttons are protected by a polyester fascia.
Connections to the panel are via 2 plug-in connectors on the PCB and 1 plug-in connector on
flying leads.

Power supply
The control panel requires 240Vac 6VA max. 50Hz supply.
Sensor input
A Platinum Resistance Thermometer (PRT100) is supplied as the temperature sensor.
Control outputs
Relay outputs are used for both temperature and timer output. The rating for both relays is
240Vac 5A max.
User interface
The user interface comprises four 7-segment green LED display, 4 LEDs, 2 green and 2
amber, and six push buttons. The 7-segment display is used to indicate time setting, time
remaining, measured temperature and setpoint temperature. The green LEDs are used to
indicate the status of the display which includes time setting and setpoint temperature. The
amber LEDs are for the status of the heater and timer output.
The time and temperature are indicated and controlled separately on the panel.
To activate the timer, press the RUN button. The TIMER RUNNING indicator should come
ON. The Timer display should start to count down. To turn OFF the timer, press the RUN
button again.
To set the timer, press the SET button on the timer section. The TIMER SET indicator should
come ON. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to change the setting.
To activiate the heater, press the HEATED button. The HEAT ON indicator should come ON.
To turn OFF the heat, press the HEATED button again.
To set the temperature, press the SET button on the temperature section. The TEMP SET
indicator should come ON. Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to alter the setting.

Installation
The operator panel is mounted on the inside of the steel fascia plate using 6 M3 nuts and
washers, M4x7 clear hole spacers on the 6 M3 studs.
The fascia label is put on the front of the fascia plate using double sided adhesive.
There are 3 sets of connections:
The sensor input (PRT100 sensor) is connected to a 3 way connector CONN1 on the PCB.
Only the outer two connections are used. The sensor is not polarity sensitive.
The level input (volt-free contact) is connected to a 2 way connector CONN2 on the PCB.
The 240Vac mains supply, the heater output and the timer output are connected to a 6 way
free plug.
