Purpose
This document describes a set of simple acceptance tests, which should be performed when selecting a
Bluetooth® device to be used as an accessory on a Tait Portable product.
The tests described here allow the user to make an informed choice of the suitability of the Bluetooth®
device under test in the desired modes of operations.

TN-2817c-AN www.taitradio.com Page 3 of 14
1.1 Hardware Requirements
The following hardware is required to do this testing:
•2 x Tait TP9300, TP9400, TP9500, TP9600 and/or TP3350 with suitable batteries and antennas
•Candidate Bluetooth® device under test
•1x wired PTT (optional)
•1x Tait Programming Cable to program the portable radios via a PC
1.2 Software Requirements
The following software is required for the following portable radio models:
•TP9300 –firmware v2.20.04 or later
•TP9400 –firmware v2.14.03 or later
•TP9500 –firmware v2.25.00 or later
•TP9600 –firmware v2.17.00or later
•TP3350 –firmware v1.04.00 or later
Refer to the Bluetooth® Functionality document TD-0016-xx for more details.
1.3 License Requirements
TPAS082 (SFE key - Bluetooth) must be enabled on the Tait TP9000 portable radios.
1.4 Radio Configurations
Two radio databases will be needed, one for each radio defined in this testing as “Radio A” and “Radio B”.
In addition to the normal configurations specific to your test setup e.g., Conventional Channel Profile; the
following specific settings are required to enable Bluetooth® functionalities on the radios.
1.4.1 TP9300/9400/9500/9600
On Radio A only:
•Global > PTT > Programmable/Bluetooth® PTT or VOX > Advanced > Audio Source as
‘Bluetooth® Mic’
•Function Key 2 (F2) Primary Action as ‘Programmable PTT’
•Function Key 4 (F4) Primary Action as ‘Bluetooth Devices Connect’
•Function Key 4 (F4) Long Press as “Bluetooth Devices Disconnect”
•Conventional > Conventional Menu > Bluetooth items enabled
On Radio B only:

TN-2817c-AN www.taitradio.com Page 4 of 14
•Global > PTT > Programmable/Bluetooth® PTT or VOX > Audio Source as ‘Bluetooth® Mic’
•Function Key 2 (F2) Primary Action as ‘Programmable PTT’
•Function Key 4 (F4) Primary Action as ‘Bluetooth Devices Connect’
•Function Key 4 (F4) Long Press as “Bluetooth Devices Disconnect’
•Conventional > Conventional Menu > Bluetooth items enabled
•In Global > Bluetooth® enable ‘Use Multi-Device UI’
•In Global > Bluetooth® > Power-On Action select ‘Reconnect to Last BT Devices’
•In Global > Bluetooth® enable ‘Attempt Automatic Reconnection’
1.4.2 TP3350
On Radio A and B:
•Edit > Specifications > Accessories > BT as ‘Selected’
•Function Key 3 (F3) as ‘Bluetooth Headset Audio Switch’
Please note different manufacturers may choose to operate their Bluetooth® headsets with PTT and
function key buttons with different commands. For some Bluetooth® devices, additional settings may
be required on the radio to enable the PTT and functional buttons to work. These radio configurations
can be found at Global > Bluetooth® > Button Profiles.
The Button Profile table lists the incoming Bluetooth® messages and associated them with functions
on the radio e.g., if the radio receives a Bluetooth string “+PTT=P”, it will understand this as a PTT
press. We expect this message from Savox and Aina Bluetooth® devices.

Further Reference Information
If you have any queries or issues in regards to the basic configuration of the Bluetooth® device you are
trying to configure and connect to your radio, we recommend that you read and reference where applicable
the Tait Programming Application Online Help files and Portable Radio User’s Guides – in particular the
following sections: ‘Setting up Bluetooth®’ in the Online Help and ‘Using a wireless headset’ in each of the
Radio User’s Guides.
Additional Notes
Please note that if the desired radio configuration and use includes a Wired PTT Accessory, repeat steps in
Section 1.5 using a Wired PTT Accessory on EPTT1 (AUX).
If all the tests are successful, and there is no obvious usability or performance issues, then the basic
functionality of the Bluetooth® device under test is deemed acceptable.
