Introduction to iSYSTEM Emulation Adapter (video)

Infineon TC377TE Compact Emulation Adapter has been custom designed to achieve a
minimum vertical size of the LQFP292 adaptation. It provides full trace capabilities for the:
· TC327LP
· TC337LP
· TC367DP
· TC377TP (BGA)
microcontrollers where the trace port is not available or lacks the full trace capability.
The Emulation Adapter might differ in some peripherals from the target device;
therefore, the device datasheet should be checked.
Infineon TC377TE Compact Emulation Adapter supports the following debug and trace
interfaces:
· DAP
· AGBT (Aurora Gigabit Trace)

iSYSTEM Debug and Trace solutions
Trace provides non-intrusive and deep insight in the embedded application without influencing
real-time behavior. It can be used to debug the most difficult and complex code defects and
offers a complete trace history capture of the program execution.
iSYSTEM BlueBox On-Chip Analyzer combined with the Infineon AGBT Active Probe provides a
high-speed connection to the target device using a variety of debug/trace interfaces.
Furthermore, IOM6 accessories enable the synchronous capture of analog and digital signals
in parallel to trace information. Hardware tools coupled with winIDEA IDE enable reliable
recording of program flow and data trace. The integrated measurement and visualization tool
Analyzer provides a graphical presentation of execution time analysis and much more.

Options
Target adaptation
The Emulation Adapter adaptation to a specific target microcontroller pincount and package
is done via a Solder part. Sometimes also an optional Extender is available. The optional
Extender connects between the Emulation Adapter and the matching Solder part, which is
being soldered on the embedded target side.
The available Solder part and the Extender are listed in the table below.

Configuration
J1: Target reset configuration
Jumper J1 connects the Emulation Adapter reset line and the user target board reset line and
is populated by default.
J2: TP20_2/TESTMODEn configuration
The TP20_2/TESTMODEn microcontroller pin is latched at power on reset release to enter test
mode. Alternatively, it can operate as a general purpose I/O.
The Solder jumper J2 connects the Emulation Adapter TP20_2/TESTMODEn signal with the
microcontroller TP20_2 signal from the user target board. The microcontroller must not enter
test mode during the Emulation Adapter operation. The J2 jumper is by default not connected
preventing the microcontroller on the Emulation Adapter entering test mode at power on reset
if the target would be set up so. If the target uses this pin for I/O operation, solder the jumper
J2 and double check that the signal is properly conditioned at power on reset.

Blue color marks the trace signals.

Be aware that debug and trace signals from the Emulation adapter superset device are
not connected to the target board. They are exposed only to the connectors on the
Emulation adapter.

Watch out that the pin 1 position and alignment of all pins match when connecting two
parts together.
To prevent breaking of the hardware setup or just part of it, avoid disassembling and
reassembling the hardware setup too frequently.
1. Solder the Solder part [B] on the embedded target PCB [A] to get a BA setup.
Use the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) to solder the Solder parts to the user target
board instead of the original microcontroller. iSYSTEM provides this soldering service
on request too.
2. If an optional Extender [C] is used, connect it to the Solder part [B] of the BA setup. You get a
CBA setup.
The Extender [C] can also provide protection from damaging the Solder part [B] if the Emulation Adapter setup is supposed to be
assembled and disassembled during the usage. In such case, it is recommended that the Emulation Adapter (D) is
disconnected from the Extender [C] and not from the Solder part [B].
Be careful and gentle during this procedure because all parts of the setup are extremely sensitive, and pins can easily bend or
even break in the worst-case scenario.
More Extenders [C] can be stacked to gain height between the Emulation Adapter [D]and the Target [A]. This is useful if
surrounding components around the Solder part [B] are so high that they prevent connecting the Emulation Adapter [D]. Keep the
number of Extenders [C] at minimum since every Extender degrades the signal integrity of the electrical signals.
3. Assemble the Emulation Adapter [D] with the (C)BA setup by connecting the Emulation
Adapter [D] to:
· the Solder part of the BA setup, or
· the Extender of the CBA setup when it's being used.
