QPrecautions concerning batteries
Misuse of batteries could cause them to rupture or leak leading
to fire, injury or the staining of nearby things. Please read and
observe the following precautions carefully.
oBe sure to insert the batteries with correct positive (+) and
negative (_) orientations.
oUse batteries of the same type. Never use different types of bat-
teries together.
oIf the remote control is not used for a long time (more than a
month), remove the batteries to prevent them from leaking.
oIf the batteries leak, wipe away the leakage inside the battery
compartment and replace the batteries with new ones.
oDo not use batteries of types other than those specified. Do not
mix new batteries with old ones or use different types of batter-
ies together.
oDo not heat or disassemble batteries. Never throw batteries into
fire or water.
oDo not carry or store batteries with other metallic objects. The
batteries could short circuit, leak or explode.
oNever recharge a battery unless it is confirmed to be a
rechargeable type.

Before using the unit
Read this before operation
<Even when this unit is in standby mode (off), it consumes
standby power. To cut standby power consumption, use the
POWER button to turn the unit off.
<As the unit may become warm during operation, always leave
sufficient space around the unit for ventilation.
<The voltage supplied to the unit should match the voltage as
printed on the rear panel. If you are in any doubt regarding this
matter, consult an electrician.
<Choose the installation location of your unit carefully. Avoid
placing it in direct sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also avoid
locations subject to vibrations and excessive dust, heat, cold or
moisture.
<Do not place the unit on the amplifier/receiver.
<Do not open the cabinet as this might result in damage to the
circuitry or electrical shock. If a foreign object should get into the
set, contact your dealer or service agency.
<When removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull
directly on the plug, never yank the cord.
<Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical solvents as this
might damage the finish. Use a clean, dry or slightly damp cloth.
<Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
Maintenance
If the surface of the unit gets dirty, wipe with a soft cloth or
use diluted neutral cleaning liquid. Be sure to remove any fluid
completely. Do not use thinner or alcohol as they may damage
the surface of the unit.

Connection
CAUTION:
<Switch off the power to all equipment before making connections.
<Read the instructions of each component you intend to use with this unit.
<Be sure to insert each plug securely. To prevent hum and noise, avoid bundling the
signal interconnection cables together with the AC power cord or speaker cables.

<The black speaker terminals are _(negative).
Generally, the +side of the speaker cable is marked to make
it distinguishable from the _side of the cable. Connect this
marked side to the +terminal and the unmarked side to the
black _terminal.
Caution:
The metal portions of the two separate wires should not touch
or an electrical short can occur. Shorted wires can create a fire
hazard or induce a failure in your equipment.
Connecting speakers A, B
1. Remove about 1 cm of sheathing from the ends of the
speaker cables and twist the exposed core wires well.
2. Turn the terminal cap counterclockwise to loosen it. The speaker
terminal caps cannot be fully removed from the base.
3. Insert the wire into the terminal fully and turn the terminal cap
clockwise to securely connect it .
<Make sure none of the wire insulation is under the terminal, only
the bare, stripped wire.
<Make sure the wire is fastened firmly by pulling the cable lightly.
Connecting with banana plugs
You can use commercially-available banana plugs to connect
speakers. After connecting the banana plugs to the speaker
cables, insert the plugs into the terminals.
<Keep the terminal cap tightened when in use.
<Carefully read the instructions for the banana plugs that you are
using.
Notice about the European model
In accordance with European safety regulations, connecting
banana plugs to speaker terminals is not allowed on European
models. The holes into which banana plugs could be inserted
have been covered with black caps. Connect speakers using
bare wires or spade lugs. If a black cap should become sepa-
rated from its terminal, return it to its original position.

Power inlet (~ IN)
Insert the included power cord here. After completing all other
connections, insert the power plug into a power outlet.
Unplug the cord from the outlet when not using the unit for a
long time.
VUse only the included power cord. Use of a different cord
could cause fire or electric shock.

PHONO jacks/SIGNAL GND terminal
Connect the turntable’s RCA pin cords to PHONO jacks. Make
sure to connect:
white plug qwhite jack (L: left channel)
red plug qred jack (R: right channel)
Connect the turntable’s ground cord to SIGNAL GND terminal.
B
AUDIO IN/OUT jacks
Analog 2-channel audio signal is input or output from these
jacks. Connect the component with commercially-available RCA
cables.
Make sure to connect:
white plug qwhite jack (L: left channel)
red plug qred jack (R: right channel)

<Be sure to insert each plug securely. To prevent hum and noise,
avoid bundling the signal connection cables together with the
AC power cord or speaker cables.

REMOTE CONTROL jacks
If you have TEAC T-R650, TR-650DAB or CD-P650, connect the
REMOTE CONTROL jack (A or B) of each component by the
remote control cord (provided with the T-R650, T-R650DAB or
CD-P650).

AC OUTLET (SWITCHED)
This outlet is active when the unit is on or in standby.
Caution:
Make sure that the total power consumption of all equipment
connected to the outlet does not exceed 500 mA or 100 watts.

Speaker Connections
Caution:
To avoid damaging the speakers with a sudden high-level
signal, be sure to switch the power off before connecting the
speakers.
<Check the impedance of your speakers. Connect speakers with an
impedance of 4 to 16 ohms when using only one pair of speakers
(SPEAKERS A or SPEAKERS B). When using two pairs of speakers
simultaneously, the impedance should be 8 to 16 ohms.

A
Remote Sensor
When operating the remote control unit, point it towards the
REMOTE SENSOR.

POWER
Press this switch to put the unit into standby mode or turn it off.

STANDBY/ON
When the power switch on the main unit is down, use this but-
ton to turn the unit on or put it in standby.
The standby indicator lights when the unit is in standby mode.
When the unit is turned on, the light goes off.

INPUT SELECTOR
Use this knob (or buttons on the remote control unit) to select
a source.
One of the indicators will light to show the selected source.

TAPE 2 MONITOR
When a cassette tape deck is connected to the TAPE 2 jacks, use
this button to turn on or off the tape monitor function.
The indicator lights when the tape monitor function is on.
F
MUTE
Use this button to mute the sound.
This indicator blinks when the sound is muted.
G
VOLUME
Turn this knob (or press the VOLUME buttons on the remote
control unit) to adjust the volume.
For volume, 0 is the maximum and −∞ is the minimum. Before
turning the unit on, turn the VOLUME knob to the minimum value
(−∞). Failure to do so could result in sudden loud noise, which could
damage speakers, harm hearing or cause other trouble

MIC Jack and MIC LEVEL knob
With the microphone plugged into this jack, the sound picked
up from the microphone will be heard together with the source
sound selected by the INPUT SELECTOR.
Turn the MIC LEVEL knob to adjust the input level of the
microphone.

LOUDNESS
When the volume level is low, use this to boost low and high
frequencies, which can be more difficult to hear.

BALANCE
Use this knob to adjust the balance of the speakers.
Normally, set the knob to the center position.

SOURCE DIRECT
Press this button to turn on or off the source direct function.
When the source direct function is set to on, the button lights
and you can listen to the sound without tone effects.

TREBLE
Use this knob to adjust the level of high frequency information.
< When the source direct function is on, this knob has no effect.
M
BASS
Use this knob to adjust the level of low frequency information.
< When the source direct function is on, this knob has no effect.
N
SPEAKERS buttons
Use these buttons to turn the speakers on and off.
When the A button is down:
Sound is output from speakers connected to the SPEAKERS A
terminals.
When the B button is down:
Sound is output from speakers connected to the SPEAKERS B
terminals.
When both the A and B buttons are down:
Sound is output from speakers connected to the terminals of
both SPEAKERS A and B.
When neither A or B button is down:
No sound is output from the speakers. Use this setting when
listening through headphones.
O
PHONES jack
For private listening, insert the headphones plug into this jack,
and adjust the volume by turning the VOLUME knob.
<Plugging headphones in here will not disable speaker output.
Use the SPEAKERS A and B buttons to turn them off.
Remote Control Unit
When operating the TEAC CD Player (CD-P650) or the tuner
(T-R650/T-R650DAB) using the remote control unit UR-1314,
select a source first using INPUT SELECTOR buttons (boxed

)
on the remote control unit.
In this manual, we explain the buttons used with the
A-R650MK".

ON
When the POWER switch on the main unit is down, use this
button to turn the unit on.
b
STANDBY
When the POWER switch on the main unit is down, use this
button to put the unit into standby mode.
Other buttons are used for operation of TEAC's CD-P650,
T-R650 and T-R650DAB.
Note:
<To simplify explanations, instructions in this manual refer to
the names of the buttons and controls on the front panel only.
Associated controls on the remote control will also operate
similarly.

Basic operation
When operating the remote control unit, point it towards the
REMOTE SENSOR on the front panel of the amplifier (or other TEAC
component).
<Even if the remote control unit is operated within the effective
range, remote control operation may be impossible if there are
any obstacles between the unit and the remote control.
<If the remote control unit is operated near other appliances
which generate infrared rays, or if other remote control devices
using infrared rays are used near the unit, it may operate
incorrectly. Conversely, the other appliances may operate
incorrectly.
Battery Installation
1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert two “AAA” dry batteries. Make sure that the batteries are
inserted with their positive “+” and negative “_” poles posi-
tioned correctly.
3. Close the cover.
Battery Replacement
If the distance required between the remote control unit and
main unit decreases, the batteries are exhausted. In this case
replace the batteries with new ones.
For more information about collection of batteries, please
contact your local municipality, your waste disposal service or the
point of sale where you purchased the items.
Remote control unit
1
To protect speakers from a sudden high-level signal, turn
the VOLUME knob counterclockwise to minimize the
volume.
–∞ (innity): minimum volume
0dB: maximum volume

Press the POWER switch.
The unit enters standby mode, and the standby indicator lights.

Press the STANDBY/ON switch to turn the unit on.
The standby indicator goes off.

Recording
You can record the sound from the source shown by the lit input
indicator using a recording device connected to TAPE 1/CD or TAPE 2.
1. Select a source to be recorded by turning the INPUT
SELECTOR.
2. Start playback on the source device to be recorded.
3. Start recording.
<The following controls have no effect on the recorded sig-
nal: VOLUME, BALANCE, BASS and TREBLE knobs, MUTE and
LOUDNESS buttons.
<By turning the TAPE 2 MONITOR button on, you can listen to the
sound as it is being recorded by the device connected to TAPE 2.
<This unit cannot dub from TAPE 2 to TAPE 1/CD.
Selecting the speakers
Use the SPEAKERS A and B buttons to turn the speakers on and
off.
When the A button is down:
Sound is output from speakers connected to the SPEAKERS A
terminals.
When the B button is down:
Sound is output from speakers connected to the SPEAKERS B
terminals.
When both the A and B buttons are down:
Sound is output from speakers connected to the terminals of
both SPEAKERS A and B.
When neither A or B button is down:
No sound is output from the speakers. Use this setting when
listening through headphones.

Select a source by turning the INPUT SELECTOR (or
pressing one of the input buttons on the remote control
unit).
Tape Monitor Function
If you want to select the source connected to the TAPE 2 jacks,
press the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to turn the tape monitor
function on. The TAPE 2 MONITOR indicator lights.
Press the TAPE MONITOR button again to cancel the tape
monitor function.
<When the tape monitor function is on, sources other than TAPE 2
cannot be heard. Be sure to turn the function off while listening
to other sources.

Play the source, and gradually turn up the volume to the
required level by turning the VOLUME knob.

LOUDNESS button
When the volume level is low, use this to boost low and high
frequencies, which can be more difficult to hear.
Set this button to the OFF position when listening at normal
levels.
How to adjust the balance between the left
and right speakers
Turn the BALANCE knob to adjust the balance of the speakers.
Normally, set the knob to the center position.
Basic operation (continued)
Listening through headphones
For private listening, first reduce the volume level on the receiver
to minimum. Then insert the plug from your headphones into
the PHONES jack, and adjust the volume by turning the VOLUME
knob.
<Plugging headphones into the PHONES jack does not disable
speaker output. Use the SPEAKERS A and B buttons to turn them
off.
CAUTION
Always lower the volume level prior to plugging in your
headphones. TO AVOID DAMAGING YOUR HEARING - Do not
place your headphones on your head until after you have
plugged them in.
Muting
To mute the sound temporarily, press the MUTE button.
Press the MUTE button again to restore the sound.
<While muting is engaged, the MUTE indicator blinks.

Tone Control
Turn the BASS knob to adjust the level of low frequency
information.
Turn the TREBLE knob to adjust the level of high frequency
information.
Source Direct
Press this button to turn on or off the source direct function.
When the source direct function is set to on, the button lights
and you can listen to the sound without tone effects.
Automatic power saving function
This unit has an automatic power saving function.
When the unit is shipped new, the automatic power saving function is
on, so it will automatically enter standby mode if none of the follow-
ing controls on the main unit (or any remote control buttons) are used
for the set amount of time (default setting: 8 hours).

Checking the setting
When the unit is on, press the TAPE 2 MONITOR button for at least
5 seconds. This will cause an indicator to blink according to the setting.
This table shows the relationship between the setting and the blink-
ing indicator.

To end setting confirmation mode, press the TAPE 2 MONITOR button
for at least 3 seconds.
CAUTION
No sound will be output from speakers or headphones while this set-
ting is being checked.
Changing the setting
1 When the power is o, press the POWER button while
pressing and holding the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to
turn the unit on.
The CD indicator will blink.
oThe setting is always set to 8 hours when the unit is turned on.
2 Press the TAPE 2 MONITOR button to change the
setting.
The setting and corresponding indicator change in the following
order each time you press the TAPE 2 MONITOR button.

3 Press the STANDBY/ON button to complete the

CAUTION
If the POWER switch is turned off or the power supply to the unit
is otherwise interrupted, the setting will be restored to its default
value of eight hours.

Troubleshooting
If you experience problems with this unit, please take the time to
look through this chart and see if you can solve the problem yourself
before you call your dealer.
No power
eCheck the connection to the AC power source. Check and
make sure the AC source is not a switched outlet and if it is, the
switch is turned on. Make sure there is power to the AC outlet
by plugging another item such as a lamp or fan.
No sound from speakers.
e Adjust the volume.
e Set the BALANCE control to “0”.
e Check the connection to the speakers.
e If your speakers are connected to the SPEAKERS A (or B)
terminals, make sure the SPEAKERS A (or B) button on the front
panel is down.
e If the tape monitor function is ON, press the TAPE 2 MONITOR
button to turn it off.
The volume of SPEAKERS A is different from that of B.
e The volume and sound quality may differ depending on
the speaker’s size, etc. If you want to use SPEAKERS A and B
simultaneously with the same volume, connect exactly the
same type of speakers to the SPEAKERS A and B terminals.
The sound is noisy or humming.
e The unit is too close to a TV set or similar appliances. Relocate
the units so they no longer interfere with each other, or turn
them off.
e Connect the turntable’s ground cord to the SIGNAL GND
terminal.
Sound cuts off during listening to the music or no sound even
though power is ON.
e Speaker impedance is less than prescribed for this unit.
e Turn the power off and reduce the volume.
Low bass response.
e Speaker polarity (+/_) is reversed. Check all speakers for
correct polarity.
Remote control doesn’t work.
e Press the POWER switch on the main unit to turn it on.
e If the batteries are dead, change the batteries.
e Use remote control unit within the range (5 m) and point at the
front panel.
e Clear obstacles between the remote control unit and the main
unit.
e If a strong light is near the unit, turn it off.
If normal operation is not restored, unplug the power cord
from the outlet and plug it again.

VPrécautions concernant les piles
Un mauvais emploi des piles peut entraîner leur rupture ou leur fuite,
avec pour conséquence un incendie, des blessures ou la salissure des
objets proches. Veuillez lire et suivre attentivement les précautions
suivantes.
oVeillez à insérer les piles avec leurs pôles positif (¥) et négatif (^)
correctement orientés.
oUtilisez des piles du même type. N’utilisez jamais des types de pile
différents ensemble.
oSi la télécommande doit rester inutilisée durant une période pro-
longée (plus d’un mois), retirez ses piles pour éviter qu’elles ne
coulent.
oSi les piles coulent, essuyez le liquide dans le compartiment des
piles et remplacez les piles par des neuves.
oN'utilisez pas de piles d'un type autre que ceux spécifiés. Ne
mélangez pas des piles neuves avec des anciennes et n’utilisez pas
ensemble des types de pile différents.
oNe chauffez pas et ne démontez pas les piles. Ne jetez jamais les
piles dans un feu ou dans de l’eau.
oNe conservez et ne transportez pas les piles avec d’autres objets
métalliques. Les piles pourraient entrer en court-circuit, couler ou
exploser.
oNe rechargez jamais une batterie sans avoir vérifié qu’elle peut
l’être.
oN'exposez pas cet appareil aux gouttes ni aux éclaboussures.
oNe placez pas d'objet rempli de liquide sur l'appareil, comme par
exemple un vase.
oN’installez pas cet appareil dans un espace confiné comme une
bibliothèque ou un meuble similaire.
oL’appareil tire un courant nominal de veille de la prise secteur
quand son interrupteur POWER ou STANDBY/ON n’est pas en posi-
tion ON.
oL’appareil doit être placé suffisamment près de la prise de courant
pour que vous puissiez à tout moment atteindre facilement la fiche
du cordon d’alimentation.
oLa fiche secteur est utilisée comme dispositif de déconnexion et
doit donc toujours rester disponible.
oLes produits ayant une construction de Classe !sont équipés d'un
cordon d'alimentation avec une fiche de terre. Le cordon de ces
produits doit être branché à une prise de terre.
oSi le produit utilise des batteries (y compris un pack d'accus ou des
piles), elles ne doivent pas être exposées au soleil, au feu ou à une
chaleur excessive.
oPRÉCAUTION pour les produits utilisant des batteries au lithium
remplaçables: il existe un danger d’explosion en cas de remplace-
ment par un type de batterie incorrect. Remplacez-les uniquement
par un type identique ou équivalent.
oDes précautions doivent être prises pour l'emploi d'écouteurs ou
d'un casque avec le produit car une pression acoustique (volume)
excessive dans les écouteurs ou dans le casque peut provoquer
une perte d’audition.

Avant utilisation
Lisez les consignes suivantes avant toute utilisation
<Même quand cet appareil est en mode de veille, elle consomme
du courant. Pour ne pas consommer de courant de veille, éteignez
l'appareil avec l'interrupteur POWER.
<Il est possible que l’appareil devienne chaud durant l’utilisation,
laissez donc toujours un espace suffisant autour de lui pour la
ventilation.
<La tension d’alimentation doit correspondre à la tension imprimée
sur le panneau arrière. Si vous avez des doutes concernant
l’alimentation de l’appareil, consultez un électricien.
<Choisissez soigneusement l’emplacement de l’appareil. Évitez
de l’exposer directement aux rayons solaires ou à une source
de chaleur. Évitez aussi les endroits sujets aux vibrations, à une
poussière excessive, à la chaleur, au froid et à l’humidité.
<N’installez pas l’appareil au dessus d’un amplificateur/récepteur.
<N’ouvrez pas le boîtier car cela peut endommager le circuit ou
causer un choc électrique. Si un objet pénètre dans l’appareil,
consultez votre revendeur ou le SAV TEAC.
<Quand vous débranchez le cordon d’alimentation de la prise
secteur, tirez toujours sur la prise, jamais sur le cordon.
<N’essayez pas de nettoyer l’appareil avec des solvants chimiques,
cela peut endommager la finition. Utilisez un chiffon propre, sec ou
légèrement humidifié.
<Conservez-le dans un endroit sûr pour référence ultérieure.
Entretien
Si la surface de l’appareil est sale, nettoyez-la avec un chiffon
doux ou utilisez une solution de nettoyage neutre diluée. Veillez
à ce qu’il ne reste pas de produit sur l’appareil. N’utilisez jamais de
diluant ou d’alcool, ceux-ci risquant d’endommager la surface de
l’appareil.

Branchez les cordons RCA de la platine tourne-disque aux prises
PHONO. Veillez à brancher:
la fiche blanche qla prise blanche (L: canal gauche)
la fiche rouge qla prise rouge (R: canal droit)
Branchez le fil de masse de la platine à la borne SIGNAL GND
(masse du signal).

Prises AUDIO IN/OUT
Un signal audio analogique 2 canaux d’entrée ou de sortie est
disponible sur ces prises. Raccordez l’appareil avec des câbles
RCA du commerce.

Si vous possédez le T-R650, T-R650DAB ou CD-P650 de TEAC,
connectez la prise REMOTE CONTROL (A ou B) de chaque
appareil avec le cordon de télécommande (fourni avec le T-R650,
T-R650DAB ou CD-P650).

AC OUTLET (SWITCHED)
Cette sortie de renvoi d'alimentation n’est active que lorsque
l’appareil est allumé ou en veille.
Attention :
La consommation électrique totale de tous les appareils
raccordés à cette prise ne doit pas dépasser 100 W ou 500 mA.

Raccordement des enceintes
Attention :
Pour éviter d’endommager les enceintes avec un signal brusque
de niveau trop élevé, veillez à mettre l’appareil hors tension avant
de raccorder les enceintes.
<Vérifiez l’impédance de vos enceintes. Branchez des enceintes
d'impédance 4 à 16 ohms si vous n'employez qu'une paire
d'enceintes (SPEAKERS A ou B). Si vous employez simultanément
deux paires d'enceintes, leur impédance doit être de 8 à 16 ohms.
<Les borniers noirs des enceintes correspondent au _(négatif).
Généralement, le côté +des câbles d’enceinte est marqué pour
le distinguer du _. Raccordez le côté ainsi marqué au bornier +
et le côté dépourvu de marque au bornier _.
Attention :
Les parties métalliques de deux fils séparés ne doivent jamais
se toucher pour éviter tout risque de court-circuit. Les fils en
court-circuit peuvent provoquer un incendie ou détériorer
sérieusement votre appareil.
Branchement des enceintes A, B
1. Dénudez environ 1 cm aux extrémités des câbles d'enceinte et
épissez bien les conducteurs.
2. Tournez le capuchon du bornier dans le sens contraire des
aiguilles d’une montre pour le desserrer. Le capuchon ne peut
pas être séparé du bornier.
3. Introduisez le fil conducteur dans le bornier puis tournez le
capuchon dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour assurer
son maintien.
<Assurez-vous que le fil est bien fixé en place en tirant légèrement
sur le cordon.
<Assurez-vous que seul la partie dénudée du fil est insérée dans le
bornier et qu’aucun isolant n'empêche un bon contact entre le fil
et le bornier.
Connexion par fiches bananes
Vous pouvez vous servir de fiches bananes du commerce pour
brancher les enceintes. Après avoir connecté les fiches bananes
aux câbles d'enceinte, insérez les fiches dans les borniers.
<Gardez le bornier vissé durant l'utilisation.
<Lisez attentivement les instructions des fiches bananes que vous
employez.
Avertissement pour le modèle européen
Conformément aux réglementations de sécurité européennes,
il n'est pas possible de brancher des fiches bananes dans les
borniers d'enceinte des modèles européens. Les orifices dans
lesquels s'insèrent les fiches bananes ont été occultés par
des capuchons noirs. Branchez les enceintes au moyen de fils
dénudés ou de cosses à fourche. Si un capuchon noir sort d'un
bornier, remettez-le en place.

Entrée d'alimentation (~ IN)
Branchez ici le cordon d'alimentation fourni. Après avoir terminé
tous les autres branchements, insérez la fiche du cordon
d'alimentation dans une prise secteur.
Débranchez le cordon de la prise secteur en cas de non-
utilisation prolongée de l'unité.
VN'utilisez que le cordon d’alimentation fourni. L'emploi
d'un autre cordon peut entraîner un incendie ou un choc
électrique.
