12) Grounding or Polarization —This product may be equipped with a
polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider
than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This

outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact

13) Power-Cord Protection —Power-supply cords should be routed so

14) Outdoor Antenna Grounding —If an outside antenna or cable
system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable

Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regard to proper
grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-
in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors,
location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes,
and requirements for the grounding electrode.
Note to CATV system installer:
This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer’s attention to
Section 820-40 of the NEC which provides guidelines for proper
grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be
connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point
of cable entry as practical."
15) Lightning —For added protection for this product during a lightning
storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time,
unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable
system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and
power-line surges.
16) Power Lines —An outside antenna system should not be located in
the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power
circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When
installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to
keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them
might be fatal.
17) Overloading —Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or
integral convenience receptacles as this can result in risk of fire or
electric shock.
18) Object and Liquid Entry —Never push objects of any kind into this
product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points
or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill
liquid of any kind on the product.
19) Servicing —Do not attempt to service this product yourself as
opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or

operations.

For Safe and Efficient
Operation
Caution: Read This Before Operating Your
Unit.
<This equipment is a sophisticated electro
mechanical device. To ensure proper
operation, please read this manual
carefully.
<Choose the installation location of your
unit carefully. Avoid placing it in direct
sunlight. Also avoid locations subject to
vibration and excessive dust, heat, cold or
moisture. Keep away from such sources
of hum as transformers or motors.
<Do not use this unit where there are
extremes in temperature (below 41˚F/5˚C
or exceeding 95˚F/35˚C) or where direct
sunlight may strike it.
<Do not open the cabinet as this might
result in damage to the set or electrical
shock.
<Be sure hands are clean when handling
discs. Never insert a damaged disc!
<When disconnecting the power cord from
the wall outlet, always grasp it by the plug.
Never yank the cord.
<Do not use force when operating the
switch and buttons.
<Before moving the unit be sure to
disconnect the power cord and all
connecting cables.
<To keep the laser-pickup clean, always
close the disc tray when not in use.
<Do not attempt to clean the unit with
chemical solvents as this might damage
the finish. Use a clean, dry cloth.
DANGER: Never operate this unit with the
top cover removed. Exposure to invisible
laser radiation may be harmful.
Note:
<Do not move this player with discs in the
disc tray. Discs may get out of position
and consequently damage the discs or the
player. If discs get jammed within the
mechanism, refer your machine to a
qualified repair agency. Do NOT attempt
to remove the discs yourself!
<Be sure to read the TROUBLESHOOTING
section for advice on common operating
errors before concluding that your unit
requires service.
<Keep this manual in a safe place for future
reference.

NOT COVER DAMAGE CAUSED BY MIS
HANDLING OR MISUSE.
Caution:
Since this unit incorporates a
microcomputer, it is sensitive to external
noise, static electricity, etc. and on rare
occasions it not operate correctly. If the
unit stops operating properly, turn the
unit off, unplug and replug the AC power
cable, and turn the unit back on. This will
reset the internal microprocessor and
should restore normal operations. If the
unit continues to operate improperly,
refer the unit to a qualified service
agency.

This player can play discs bearing any of
the following marks:

<Region Management Information DVD
players and discs are designed with
region numbers which dictate the regions
in which a disc can be played. If the
region number on the disc you want to
play does not match the region number in
your DVD player, you will not be able to
play the disc. If you try to play the DVD,
the message “WRONG REGION”will
appear on OSD.
The region code for your machine is
printed on the rear panel of the unit.
Note-2
<The specific playback functionality for
some DVD and video CD discs is
determined by the disc manufacturer.
Because this DVD player plays disc data
in accordance with the disc
manufacturer’s guidelines, some functions
may not be available on some discs. Be
sure to read the instructions provided with
the disc.
The “Prohibited”icon displayed
during DVD player operation indicates
that such manufacturer imposed
restrictions apply.

Discs that Cannot be Played
<You cannot play CD-G, CD-EXTRA, PHOTO
CD, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM discs.
<You cannot play illegally produced discs.
<You cannot play cracked, warped or
scratched discs.
<You cannot play discs that are dusty,
soiled or marked with fingerprints.
WARNING:
<If you attempt to play back such disks,
there is risk that you may damage other
components in your audio system.
Damaged discs may cause instantaneous
burst of extremely high volume levels.
About CD-R/CD-RW
Depending on the quality of the disc
and/or the condition of the recording,
some CD-R & CD-RW discs may not be
playable.

Glossary of Disc Terms
<Title (DVD)
The longest sections of a movie on a DVD.
Most DVD movies have only one title.
Smaller “compilation”DVD’s such as
some music videos, documentaries, et
cetera may be split into multiple “Titles”.
Each title is assigned a title number
enabling you to locate the title you want.
<Chapter (DVD)
Titles are split into multiple, smaller,
“chapters”. Each chapter is assigned a
chapter number enabling you to locate the
chapter you want. Depending on the disc,
there may be only one chapter for a given
title. Think of the manner a book is
formatted. Usually one “title”split into
multiple “chapters”.
<Track (Video or audio CD)
Sections of a picture or a music piece on
a VIDEO or a CD. Each track is assigned a
track number enabling you to locate the
track you want. Usually one complete
song is one full “track”.

Lexique de la terminologie des disques
<Titre (DVD)
Les parties les plus longues d’un film sur un
DVD. La plupart des films sur DVD ont
seulement un titre. Des DVD’s de
compilation plus petite tel que certain vidéos
musicaux, documentaires etc…peuvent
avoir plusieurs titres. Chaque titre est
assignéun numéro de titre vous permettant
de trouver le titre que vous désirez.
<Chapitre (DVD)
Les titres sont groupés en des chapitres plus
petits. Chaque chapitre est assignéun
numéro de chapitre vous permettant de
trouver le chapitre que vous désirez.
Dépendemment du disque, il est possible
qu’il existe seulement un chapitre pour le
titre. Imaginer comment un livre est
composé. Habituellement un titre engendre
plusieurs chapitres.
<Piste (Disque Vidéo ou audio)
Sections d’une image ou une pièce musicale
sur un VIDEO ou un CD. Chaque piste est
assignéun numéro de piste vous permettant
de trouver la piste que vous désirez.
Habituellement, une chanson complète est
composéd’une piste entière.

<Should the disc become dirty, wipe the
surface radially (from the center to the
outer edge) with a soft, dry cloth. Never
clean in a circular motion :
<Never use such chemicals as vinyl record
sprays, antistatic sprays or fluid, benzine

chemicals will do irreparable damage to
the disc's plastic surface.
<Discs should be returned to their cases
after use to avoid dust and scratches
that could cause the laser pickup to
"skip."
<Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or
high humidity and temperature for
extended periods. Long exposure to high
temperatures will warp the disc.
<CD-R and CD-RW discs are more
sensitive to the effects of heat and
ultraviolet rays than ordinary CDs. It is
important that they are not stored in a
location where direct sunlight will fall on
them. Always store away from sources of
heat such as radiators or heat-generating
electrical devices.
<Printable CD-R discs aren't
recommended, as the label side might be
sticky and damage the unit.
<Do not stick papers or protective sheets
on the discs and do not use any
protective coating spray.
<Use a soft oil-based felt-tipped pen to
write the information on the label side.
Never use a ball-point or hard-tipped pen,
as this may cause damage to the
recorded side.
<Never use a stabilizer. Using
commercially available disc stabilizers
with this unit will damage the
mechanisms and cause them to
malfunction.
<Do not use irregular shape discs
(octagonal, heart-shape, etc.). Discs of

The provided Remote Control Unit allows the
unit to be operated from a distance.
When operating the remote control unit,
point it towards the REMOTE SENSOR on the
front panel of the unit.
<Even if the remote control unit is operated
within the effective range, remote control
operation may operate erratically if there
are any obstacles between the unit and
the remote control.
<If the remote control unit is operated near
other appliances which generate infrared
rays, or if other remote control devices
using infrared rays are used near the unit,
it may operate incorrectly. Conversely, the
other appliances may operate incorrectly.
Battery Installation
Remove the battery compartment cover.
Insert two “AA“(R6, SUM-3) dry
batteries. Make sure that the batteries
are inserted with their positive “+“and
negative “_“poles positioned correctly.
Close the cover.
Battery Replacement
If the distance required between the remote
control unit and main unit decreases, the
batteries are exhausted. In this case replace
the batteries with new ones.
Precautions concerning batteries
<Be sure to insert the batteries with
correct positive “+“and negative “_“
polarities.
<Use batteries of the same type. Never
use different types of batteries together.
<Rechargeable and non-rechargeable
batteries can be used. Refer to the
precautions on their labels.
<When the remote control unit is not to be
used for a long time (more than a month),
remove the batteries from the remote
control unit to prevent them from leaking.
If they leak, wipe away the liquid inside
the battery compartment and replace the
batteries with new ones.
<Do not heat or disassemble batteries and

The type of disc, disc and track numbers

movie by pressing the TITLE button.
DVD/DIGEST:
Press the DVD/DIGEST button and the list
of the possible menu selections of the
program will be displayed.
The details of operation differ depending
on the disc used. Follow the instructions

and then press ENTER button.
SUBTITLE LANGUAGE:
Press SUBTITLE button during play.
When no subtitles are recorded,
SUBTITLE OFF will be displayed instead
of the language.

OFF is selected. And press the ENTER

ANOTHER ANGLE:
Press ANGLE button during play.
When no another angle is recorded, hand

(point B).
The portion (A-B) will be played
repeatedly.
<To cancel repeat play and resume normal
play, press the A-B button.
<When you specify an A-B section during

MAKE SURE YOUR TV IS CONNECTED TO
THE DVD PLAYER AND TURNED ON.
PROGRAMMED PLAY USES ON-SCREEN
MENUS TO PROGRAM.
Press the PROGRAM button.
The PGM indicator will light on the front
panel and the on- screen indicator will
show “P00 : DISC 0 : TRACK 00”.
Select an audio disc to be played by
using the number keys on the remote.
Do not press a DISC No. button to select
a disc number. By doing so will stop the
programming action. The number you
selected will appear in the on-screen
display. (E.G.: display will read:“P01 :
DISC 2 : TRACK 00”if you selected disc
number 2.)
Press the track number you wish to
program using the number keys on the
remote.
To enter a track number less than 10,
press 0 (zero) first and then the track
number. The display will now show “P01 :
DISC 2 : TRACK 2”if you selected track 2.)
Press the ENTER button located in the
middle of the navigation keys.
The display shows "P02 DISC 0 : TRACK
00”and is now ready for the next
programmed disk and track. The first
program selection is now stored in the
program memory.
Repeat steps 2-4 to enter additional
selections into the program.
<Up to 32 tracks of audio discs can be
entered into the program memory for disc
play in any order.
Press the PLAY button (G) after entering
a program.
If you do not press play within 20 seconds
of entering the program, the program will
not be stored and must be re-entered.
Programmed play starts from the first
programmed track.
<When all of the programmed tracks or
discs have been played, the unit will stop.
<Disc and track numbers cannot be
selected during programmed play.
<The DISC SKIP button cannot be used
during programmed play.
The SKIP/SEARCH .m, ,/
on the front panel or PRE .NEXT /
buttons will allow you to skip forward or
back one track at a time within the
program.

Shuffle Play

SETUP menu. Most settings and adjustments
are required to be set when you first use the
system.
Using the SETUP Menu
Using the SETUP menu, you can adjust the
picture size, set a language for the subtitles
and the OSD (on screen displays), limit
playback by children, et cetera.
Notes
<"PREFERENCES" cannot be selected if a
DVD movie has already been started. To
get to the preferences menu, you must
turn off the unit and turn it back on again.

Selecting the Language for OSD

You can select the language for OSD (On
Screen Display). This setting allows you
select a preferred language for the OSD
menu and operating messages. The default
language is ENGLISH.
