TERMINOLOGY
The following terms are used throughout the manual, and are standard
terminologyamongdetectorists.
ELIMINATION
Referencetoametalbeing"eliminated"meansthatthedetectorwillnot
emitatone,nordisplayaTarget-ID,whenametalobjectpassesthrough
thesearchcoil’sdetectionfield.
DISCRIMINATION
Whenthedetectoremitsdifferenttonesfordifferenttypesofmetals,and
when the detector "eliminates" certain metals, we refer to this as the
detector"discriminating"amongdifferenttypesofmetals.
Discrimination is an important feature of professional metal detectors.
Discriminationallowstheusertoignoretrashandotherwiseundesirable
objects.
RELIC
Arelicisanobjectofinterestbyreasonofitsageoritsassociationwith
thepast.Manyrelicsaremadeofiron,butcanalsobemadeofbronze
orpreciousmetals.
IRON
Ironisacommon,low-grademetalthatisanundesirabletargetincertain
metaldetectingapplications.Examplesofundesirableironobjectsareold
cans,pipes,boltsandnails.
Sometimes,thedesiredtargetismadeofiron.Propertymarkers,for
instance,containiron.Valuablerelicscanalsobecomposedofiron;
cannonballs,oldarmamentsandpartsofoldstructuresandvehiclescan
alsobecomposedofiron.
FERROUS
Metalswhicharemadeof,orcontain,iron.
PINPOINTING
Pinpointingistheprocessoffindingtheexactlocationofaburiedobject.
Long-buriedmetalscanappearexactlylikethesurroundingsoil,andcan
thereforebeveryhardtoisolatefromthesoil.
V.C.O.
Meaning“voltagecontrolledoscillator,”theV.C.O.audiomethodcauses
boththe audiopitch andthe volume toriseassignalstrengthincreases.
V.C.O.improvestheuser’sabilitytointerpretatarget’ssizeanddepth.
Very weak signals (for small or very deeply buried objects) have the
faintestvolumeandthelowestpitch.Largerobjects,andthosecloserto
thesearchcoil,willinduceahighervolumeandhigherpitchsound.
GROUND BALANCE
roundBalancingistheabilityofthedetectortoignore,or"seethrough,"
theearth’snaturallyoccurringminerals,andonlysoundatonewhena
metalobjectisdetected.Thisdetectorincorporatesproprietarycircuitryto
eliminatefalsesignalsfromseveregroundconditions.

PinpointDepthIndicator
While isdepressed,a2-digitnumberindicatesthedepthofthetarget.This
depthindicatoriscalibratedtoacoin-sizedobject.Themaximumdepthreading,
25CM or09 IN,maydisplayintheeventofelectricalnoiseoraveryweaksignal.
Todemonstratethedepthindicatorfunction,holdacoinoverthesearchcoil,
press-and-hold andthenmoveacointowardandawayfromthesearchcoil.
Holdthecoinflat,paralleltothesearchcoil.Watchthedepthindicatorchange
asthedistancefromthesearchcoilchanges.
PinpointRetuning
RetuninginthePinpointModeisusefulinnarrowingdownthelocationofatarget.
Toretunethedetector,quicklyreleasethebuttonandimmediatelydepressthe
buttonagain.
Whentheuserreleases ,“ ”isdisplayedmomentarilyonthescreen.The
“ ”indicatesthatthedetectorisretuningtotheincomingsignallevel.
HowtoPinpoint
Positionthesearchcoil2to5cm(1”-2”)abovetheground,andtothesideofthe
target.Thenpressandhold .Nowmovethesearchcoilslowlyacrossthetarget,
andthesoundwillcommunicatethetarget’slocation.Asyousweepfromsideto
side,andhearnosoundattheendsofthesweep,thetargetislocatedinthemiddle
ofthatzone,wherethesoundisloudest.Ifthesoundisloudoverawidearea,the
buriedobjectislarge.UsePinpointtotraceanoutlineofsuchlargeobjects.
NarrowItDown
Tofurthernarrowthefieldofdetection,positionthesearchcoilnearthecenter
oftheresponsepattern(butnotattheexactcenter),release ,andthen
quicklypress-and-holditagain.Nowyouwillonlyheararesponsewhenthe
searchcoilisrightoverthetopofthetarget.Repeatthisproceduretonarrow
thezoneevenfurther.Eachtimeyourepeattheprocedure,thefieldofdetection
willnarrowfurther.
ConsiderPurchasingaPinpointer
Whenyoukneeldowntounearthanobject,youmayfinditfrustratingastheobject
canappearexactlylikethesurroundingsoil.Youmayholdtheobjectinyourhand,
andfinditnecessarytopassahandfulofdirtoverthesearchcoiltoseeifitcontains
metal.Aneasierwayistouseahandheldpinpointer.Itisaprobe-likedevicewhich
ispokedintotheground,makingcloseuppinpointingasnap,reducingdigging
time,andminimizingthesizeoftheholesyouwilldig.Tekneticsoffersarobustand
inexpensivepinpointerdesignedforthispurpose.

The Eurotek Pro allows the user not only to discriminate iron targets, but
classifiesthembysizeandsignalstrength.FerrousobjectswillhaveaTarget-
IDbetween1and39.
Toeliminateallferrousobjectsfromdetection,setDISC=39.
Alternatively,theusercanselectivelyeliminateferrousobjectslessthanagiven
Target-ID.Forexample,toeliminateferrousobjectswithanIDoflessthan15,
chooseaDISCsettingof14.
FeTone™,AdjustableIronAudio
Volumesettings10-20allowtheusertochangethevolumeresponseofferrous
metals,asdescribedonpage13.
Iron-Indicator
TheIRONiconflashesmomentarilywhenferrousobjectsarepresent.
The IRON icon flashes independent of the discrimination setting.The user
cannotdisablethisicon.
Relic hunters will frequently seek out iron-laden sites as good prospective
treasure-hunting sites. The Eurotek Pro Iron-Indicator is intended for this
purpose.Theindicatoralertstheusertothepresenceofiron,evenifironhas
beendiscriminatedout.Relichunterscansearchfreeofiron-targetaudio,yet
stillbealertedtothepresenceofferrousobjectsorsearchwithno discrimination
andusetheFeTone™featuretodecreasetheAudioVolumeofferroustargets.

1. Ground Minerals
Allsoilscontainminerals.Signalsfromgroundmineralscaninterferewith
thesignalsfrommetalobjectsyouwanttofind.Allsoilsdiffer,andcandiffer
greatly,inthetypeandamountofgroundmineralspresent.TheEurotekPro
hasapresetgroundeliminationsetting.Nouseradjustmentsarerequired.
2. Trash
Ifsearchingforcoins,youwanttoignoreitemslikealuminumfoilandnails.
YoucanseetheTarget-IDvalueoftheburiedobjects,listentothesounds,
andthendecidewhatyouwanttodigup.Oryoucaneliminateunwanted

3. Identifyin Buried Objects
Metalobjectsareidentifiedbya2-digitnumberonthedisplayscreen.Thisscale
has 99 points of resolution, and is an indicator of the relative electrical
conductivity of different objects. Higher numbers indicate more conductive
targets.Ironobjects,whichareusuallyoflesservalue,displaylowernumbers.
Silvercoins,forinstance,usuallydisplaythehighestnumbers.
4. Size and Depth of Buried Objects
The5-digitbargraphindicatestherelativedepthofaburiedmetalobject.
Thisbar graph can indicatetherelative size of differentobjectsor their
distancefromthesearchcoil.Foragivenobject,themoredistancebetween
itandthesearchcoil,themorebarsilluminated.Amoreaccurate,andhigher
resolution,depthreadingisavailablewhenusingthePinpointMode.The
PinpointModedoesnotrequirethesearchcoiltobeinmotiontodetect
metals.Theabilitytoholdthesearchcoilmotionlessoverthetargetalsoaids
intracinganoutlineoftheburiedobject,orinpinpointingtheexactlocation
oftheobjectusingtechniquesdescribedinthepinpointingsectionofthis

5. EMI (Electroma netic Interference)
Thesearchcoilproducesamagneticfieldandthendetectschangesinthat
magneticfieldcausedbythepresenceofmetalobjects.Thismagneticfield
thatthedetectorcreatesisalsosusceptibletotheelectromagneticenergy
produced by other electronic devices. Cell phones, cell phone towers,
powerlines,microwaveovens,lightingfixtures,TVs,computers,motors,
etc…allproduceEMIwhichcaninterferewiththedetectorandcauseitto
beepwhennometalispresent,andsometimestobeeperratically.
TheSENSITIVITYcontrolletsyoureducethestrengthofthismagneticfield,
andthereforelessenitssusceptibilitytoEMI.Youmaywanttooperateat
maximumstrength,butthepresenceofEMImaymakethisimpossible,soif
youexperienceerraticbehavioror“false”signals, reducethesensitivity.

Thesearchcoilproducesamagneticfieldandthendetectschangesinthat
magneticfieldcausedbythepresenceofmetalobjects.Thismagneticfield
thatthedetectorcreatesisalsosusceptibletotheelectromagneticenergy
produced by other electronic devices. Cell phones, cell phone towers,
powerlines,microwaveovens,lightingfixtures,TVs,computers,motors,
etc…allproduceEMIwhichcaninterferewiththedetectorandcauseitto
beepwhennometalispresent,andsometimestobeeperratically.
TheSENSITIVITYcontrolletsyoureducethestrengthofthismagneticfield,

1. Ground Minerals
Allsoilscontainminerals.Signalsfromgroundmineralscaninterferewith
thesignalsfrommetalobjectsyouwanttofind.Allsoilsdiffer,andcandiffer
greatly,inthetypeandamountofgroundmineralspresent.TheEurotekPro
hasapresetgroundeliminationsetting.Nouseradjustmentsarerequired.

YoucanseetheTarget-IDvalueoftheburiedobjects,listentothesounds,

3. Identifyin Buried Objects
Metalobjectsareidentifiedbya2-digitnumberonthedisplayscreen.Thisscale
has 99 points of resolution, and is an indicator of the relative electrical
conductivity of different objects. Higher numbers indicate more conductive
targets.Ironobjects,whichareusuallyoflesservalue,displaylowernumbers.
Silvercoins,forinstance,usuallydisplaythehighestnumbers.
4. Size and Depth of Buried Objects
The5-digitbargraphindicatestherelativedepthofaburiedmetalobject.
Thisbar graph can indicatetherelative size of differentobjectsor their
distancefromthesearchcoil.Foragivenobject,themoredistancebetween
itandthesearchcoil,themorebarsilluminated.Amoreaccurate,andhigher
resolution,depthreadingisavailablewhenusingthePinpointMode.The
PinpointModedoesnotrequirethesearchcoiltobeinmotiontodetect
metals.Theabilitytoholdthesearchcoilmotionlessoverthetargetalsoaids
intracinganoutlineoftheburiedobject,orinpinpointingtheexactlocation

side,andhearnosoundattheendsofthesweep,thetargetislocatedinthemiddle
ofthatzone,wherethesoundisloudest.Ifthesoundisloudoverawidearea,the
buriedobjectislarge.UsePinpointtotraceanoutlineofsuchlargeobjects.
