Purpose & Description
•AT&T Set Top Boxes have an energy saving “sleep” feature
that powers down the Set Top Box if not used in a
pre-determined amount of time.
•This equipment insures the system will never go into “sleep” mode by
emitting IR to “wake up” the Set Top Box.
•The Wake Up Box –OAS model is designed to service a shelf of Set Top
Boxes, usually up to seven, or a single display. Adaptations also allow the
use of both a WUB-OAS and a U-verse RF Remote emitter (page 4).
Special procedures are also used with IR emitters (page 6).
•This equipment is often used together with a Mini Head-End for use in
exercise rooms of MDU’s and other common areas.

WUB-OAS Installation
•For single set top box implementations, insert the WUB-OAS into the USB port of
the set top box, similar to the picture below at left.
•For multiple set top box implementations, first align all the set top boxes on a shelf
where the faceplate is equal. Then select the centermost set top box and place
the stick in a Set Top Box USB port on the shelf. The WUB-OAS will broadcast a
signal to “wake up” up to 7 STB on one shelf. A completed installation of two
WUB-OAS is shown below right.

WUB-OAS Installation with U-verse RF
Remote
•Items Needed: Tape, USB Hub (see
below), WUB- OAS
•The top picture at right shows a U-
verse RF remote emitter.
•For a WUB installation with the RF
emitter, obtain a multiport USB hub
with 2 or more ports. The hub is
only for power, not for data
transfer. The hub should have a
male plug on a flexible cord for
plug-in.

•Plug the male end into the set top
box, then align the ports to face the
front of the box, as shown at right.
Fasten the hub with tape.
•Insert the WUB-OAS and the RF
emitter into one of the ports. Test
the RF remote operation. The
on/off button should flash in less
than 5 minutes after plugging the
WUB-OAS into the hub.

IR Emitter Interference
•Taping for placement of
an IR Emitter on the set
top box can interfere
with a WUB-OAS
operation. Shown at 1
at right, tape prevents
any IR from reaching
the IR receiver on the
STB.
•A correct taping is
shown at 2 at right.
