SmartTemp’sstandardproduct. As such, theTZT-701 hasuniquefeatureswhichareonlyavailableinthismodel. Itisalsoonly

temperzone’sTZT-701 thermostat isabletomanageyourcomfortlevelsinanumberof ways.Yourinstallershouldhave
programmedyourTZT-701thermostattospecificallysuit theunititiscontrollingand therequirementsof thebuilding.
Ifafterreviewingthismanual, youconsidertherearefeaturesorfunctionsthatyouconsiderdesirable, whicharenotactivatedon
yourthermostat,pleasecontactyourinstalleroranauthorisedtemperzoneservice agentforadvice onaddingthesefunctions.
Toassistwiththeclarityofthemanual,ithasbeendividedintothefollowing5mainsections.
•CommonFunctions.
Thispart of the“UserManual”explainsthefunctionsavailableregardless of thethermostat modeset bytheinstaller.
•ResidentialProgrammable Mode.
Thissection of themanual explainshowtousetheTZT-701 wheninstalledinahomeorapartment. It containsinformation on programming the
thermostat, using zonecontrol (ifinstalled), and howtoget themost fromyourairconditioning system.
•CommercialProgrammable Mode.
Whenusing theTZT-701 thermostat inacommercial building special functionsareavailable. Capabilitiessuchasafterhours runtimers,
outsideaireconomycontrol andothercommercial airconditioning management capabilitiesaredetailedinthissection.
•ManualMode(canbeusedineitherresidentialorcommercialbuildings).
Oftenprogramming orfullyautomaticairconditioning control isnot required. Inthesecircumstancestheinstallerwill have set theTZT-701
thermostat formanual mode. Thismodeistheeasiest modetousetheairconditioning systemin, but it will not automaticallyturntheA/C
systemoff (orchangetheset temperature)at theend of theday.

CommonFunctions
SelectingHeating,Coolingand AutoModes.
Witheachtapof theMODEbuttontheTZT-701 thermostatwill cyclethroughHeatingonlymode,CoolingOnlymode,Auto
modeandFanonly(ventilation)modes.Thesemodesaredescribedinmoredetailbelow.
PleaseNote:Tosuityourairconditioningsystemtype, eithertheHeatingorCooling functionmay havebeendisabled.
Heat OnlyMode -TheTZT-701 thermostat will activateHeatingwhentheroomtemperaturefallsbelowtheHeat setpoint
temperatureby0.5°C.InHeat-OnlymodetheTZT-701 thermostat will NOTbring onCoolingregardless oftheroom
temperatureandsetpoint.InHeat-Onlymode,onlytheword“Heat” will bedisplayedintheLCD.Whenyourairconditioning
systemisactivelyheating, theword“Heat” intheLCDwill changetotheword“Heating”. If“Heat” isflashingintheLCD, the
TZT-701iswaiting foritsanti-rapidcycledelaytoexpirepriortostarting“Heating”.
CoolOnlyMode -TheTZT-701thermostat will activateCoolingwhentheroomtemperaturerisesabovetheCoolsetpoint
temperatureby0.5°C.InCool-OnlymodetheTZT-701thermostat will NOTbring onHeatingregardless oftheroom
temperatureand setpoint.InCool-Onlymode,onlytheword“Cool” will bedisplayedintheLCD.Whenyourairconditioning
systemisactivelycooling,theword“Cool” intheLCDwill changetotheword“Cooling”. Iftheword“Cool” isflashing inthe
LCDtheTZT-701iswaiting foritsanti-rapidcycledelaytoexpirepriortostarting“Cooling”.
AutoChange-Over Mode -TheTZT-701thermostatwill commence “Heating”iftheroomtemperaturefallsbelowtheHeat set
pointby0.5°C.Conversely“Cooling”will commence iftheroomtemperaturerisesabovetheCoolsetpointby0.5°C.
AutoChange-Overmodeisindicatedbyboththewords“Heat”&“Cool” intheLCD.Iftheword“Heat” or“Cool” isflashing in
theLCDtheTZT-701iswaitingforitsanti-rapidcycledelaytoexpirepriortostartingtheairconditioningsystem.
FanOnly.IfFan-OnlyisselectedtheTZT-701thermostat will turnontheIndoorfanforcontinuousoperation.TheTZT-701
thermostat will notactivateheatingorcoolingregardless of theroomorsetpointtemperature(s).IfFan-Onlyischosenthewords
“Heat” or“Cool” areNOT shownintheLCD.InFanOnlymodethefanwilloperate100%of thetime.Fan-Onlymodeis
typicallyusedforventilationpurposes. Eachpress of theFANbuttonwill stepthroughtheavailablefanspeeds.
FanControlLogic
AutoFanMode
IfAutoFanmodehasbeenselectedbypressingthe“FAN”buttontheindoorfanwill turnonwhentheheating orcoolingturns
on, and offagainonce theheating orcoolingturnsoff. Topreventcooldraftsoccurring whentheheating firststarts,thefanmay
delaystartingforabriefperiodtopermit yourairconditioningsystemtopre-warm.Toconserveenergyyourfanmaycontinue
torunforashortwhileaftertheheatingorcoolinghasstopped.

FanOnMode
Byselecting “FanOn”orcontinuousfanmodeontheTZT-701 thermostat,theindoorfanwilloperatecontinuouslywhilst
heatingorcoolingbetweenthe“Start”or“Wake”programsandthe“Stop”or“Sleep”programs.Thefanwill turnonand offas
requiredwithheating andcoolingoutsideof thoseprogrammedevents,ifyourTZT-701issetasaProgrammablethermostat.
PleaseNote–Yourinstallermayhaveactivatedsomeoftheadvancedindoorfan managementcapabilitiesoftheTZT-701
thermostatthatworkinpartnershipwiththeFan OnMode. Thismayresultinthefan operatingdifferentlythan describedabove.
Ifyoufind thisun-desirable,pleasecontactyourauthorisedtemperzoneserviceagentforadviceonalteringthefunction.
FanSpeeds
SingleFanSpeed IfyourairconditioningsystemhasonlyoneIndoorfanspeed, thewords“High”, “Med”or“Low”will be
absentfromtheTZT-701WallControldisplay,asshowninthepicturetotheleft.
Press theFANbuttontoselecteither“FanOnmode”or“AutoFanmode”asdescribedabove.
Three FanSpeed Ifyourairconditioning systemhas3fanspeeds, theTZT-701thermostatwillindicateeachfanspeedinthe
positionshowninthepicturetotheleft.
PressingtheFAN buttonwillsteptheselectedfanspeedthrough“Low”,then“Med(ium)”,then“High”
andfinally“Auto”fanspeed,(indicatedbyall three fanspeedsbeingshownontheLCD).If“Auto”fan
speedhasbeenselectedtheTZT-701thermostatwillindicatethefanspeedithaschosenforthebest
performance byflashing theappropriatespeedrelatedwordintheLCD.
Press andholdtheFanbuttonfor3secondstotogglebetweenAutofan(wherethefanturnsonandoff withheating andcooling)
andFanOn,wherethefanwill runcontinuouslymostof thetime(assetbythesysteminstaller).
PleaseNote:Ifzoningisenabled.ToprotecttheAirConditioningductingandothercomponentstheinstallermayhave
selectedthehighfanspeedtobelockedoutifonlyonezoneison.
TheLCD Explained
ProgramEventIndicator.
If“Wake”,“Leave”,“Return”or“Sleep”areshown,yourTZT-701 thermostatissetasaprogrammablethermostat.Thismode
ofoperationisperfectforthoselivingastructured residential lifestyle.Thisisfullyautomaticmodewheretheoccupantpre-
programsthehometemperaturesfor24 hoursperday, 7daysperweek. Thisisexplainedlateronpage8of thismanual.
2ProgramEventIndicator.
2Eventprogramming istypicallyusedin commercial buildingswheretheAirconditioningisnormallyturnsoninthemorning,
maintainsasingletemperatureallday,thenswitchesoffat theend of theday(ormaintainsamoreeconomical overnight
temperature).Thewords“StartStop”ontheLCDindicatethismodeisset.Thisfunctionisdescribedonpage10 of thismanual.

indicatetheTZT-701 thermostat isin“ManualMode”.Thismodeisperfectforthosewhohavealess structuredlifestyle.Your
TZT-701 thermostat maybesettoprovidetwoseparatesetpoints,offering aDaytemperatureand aseparateNighttemperature
tobeset,andeasilyswappedbetweenthetwoasneeded.Alternatively,asingleheatingand cooling setpointmaybeprovided.
In thiscasetheday&nightsymbolswill notbeshown.Thisfunctionisdescribedinmoredetailonpage12of thismanual.
Clock.
Theclockdisplaysthetime.ThistimeisusedbytheTZT-701 thermostat inProgrammablemode(2 or4events)tosetthe
start/stoporprogram eventssoit isimportantthat theclockissetcorrectly.TheClockisNOTusedbytheTZT-701 thermostat
inmanualmode–itsimplydisplaysthetime. See programmingonpages8&10fordetailsaboutsetting theclock.
Day Indicator.
As withtheclockdescribedabove,theTZT-701 thermostatreliesonhavingthecorrectdaysetforitsprogrammingfunctionsto
beaccurate.See programmingonpages8&10 fordetailsaboutsettingtheclockanddaydisplay.
Room /SetTemperature.
ThisportionoftheLCDdisplaysthecurrentroomtemperature.(Notethistemperaturemayormaynotbemeasuredat the
locationof theTZT-701 wallcontroller).InprogrammingmodethecurrentSET(ordesired) roomtemperatureisdisplayedin
thislocation.Thetemperatureisdisplayineitherdegree CelsiusordegreesFahrenheitassetbytheinstaller.
Outdoor/ZoneTemperature.
Thispartof thedisplayrequiresoptionalsensorstobeinstalledtoenablethisfunction. Boththesecondcontrolzonetemperature
andoroutdoortemperaturecanbedisplayed.
SystemModeIndicator.
Thispartof theLCDprovidesinformationontheAirConditioningSystemcontrolmode. TheTZT-701thermostat iscapableof
controllingheating only,coolingonlyorbothheatingandcooling systemstogether.Ifheatingonlymodeisselectedtheword
“Heat” isdisplayed. Ifcoolingonlymodeisselectedtheword“Cool” isdisplayed. Autoseasonchangeovermodeisindicatedby
thewords“Heat &Cool” bothbeingdisplayed.
IftheTZT-701requireswarmedair,theword“Heating”willbedisplayed.Iftheroomneedstobecooled,theword“Cooling”
will bedisplayed.IftheWord“Heat” or“Cool” isslowlyblinkingtheTZT-701iswaitingforasafetydelaytimetoexpirein
ordertotoprotecttheA/Csystem. Whentheblinkingstopsthecyclerequestedwillcommence.
FanRunningAnimation.
Asmall animationof afanrevolvingwill bedisplayedwhenevertheairconditioningsystemfanisrunning.Note”all segments
ofthefananimationiconareshowninthepictureonpage5.Inreality,whentheTZT-701 thermostatisrunning normally,only
thepartsof theLCDnecessarytoprovidethefanrunning animationwillbedisplayed.
FanSpeedIndicator.
TheTZT-701 thermostat cancontrolup tothree speedsofindoorfaniftheinstallerhasenabledthisfunction.Themanually
selectedfanspeedisshown.Autofanspeedisshownbythethree words“Low”,”Med”&“High”intheLCDat onetime.The
automaticallyselectedfanspeedwill flash.
FanModeIndicator.
TheTZT-701 thermostatcanturn theindoorfanOn&Off inanumberof waysdependingonwhethertheTZT-701thermostat is
usedincommercialorresidentialmode,orwhethertheTZT-701 thermostatisheatingorcooling.Thisisdisplayedas“AUTO
FAN”or“FAN ON”mode. Pages4and5detailthesefunctions.
KeyboardLockIndicator.
ThePadlocksymbolwill flashtoindicatethatpartsof thekeyboardarelockedorthetemperaturecontrolrangeislimited
preventingchangestothethermostat settings.TheTZT-701 thermostat hasmultiplelevelsofkeyboardlockforbothmanual and
programmablemodes. See page14 of themanualformoreinformationonthisfunction.
ActiveZoneIndicator.
“Zoning”allowsyoutosplit yourheatingand orcoolingsysteminto2separatetemperaturecontrolledareasor“Zones”.Each
canhavetheirowntemperaturesensor(Optional Zone2sensorrequired).IfzoningisenabledtheWord“ZONE” andthe
numbers“1”andor“2”will beshownintheLCD. IftheoptionalZone2sensorhasbeeninstalled,thesecondzonetemperature
will alsobedisplayedandtemperaturecontrolforthatzoneisprovided. Refertopage14of thismanualformoredetails.
EconomyModeIndictor.
Iftheoutsideairtemperatureissuitable,theTZT-701 thermostat willusethecooleroutsideair(ratherthanthewarmerinside
air)tosupplementthecoolingcapacityofyourAirConditioningsystem.Iftheoutsideairisverycool,thentheTZT-701
thermostat maydecidetostoptheA/Csystemcompletelyandonlyusethiscooleroutsideairtocoolthebuilding.Thisreduces
runningcostswhileimproving theindoorairquality.TheTZT-701 thermostat will informyouthat itisusing outsideairby
showingtheword“Economy”ontheLCD. See page13formoredetailonthisfeature.

A/CFaultIndicator.
TheTZT-701 thermostat iscapableofmonitoringthesafetyof yourairconditioningsystem,oranexternal device critical tothe
safeandcorrectoperationof yourairconditioner.Ifafault isdetectedall heating andcoolingcallsaresuspendedtofurther
protecttheairconditioning systemandtheindoorfanmaybelockedtoLOWspeed(Installersetfunction).TheTZT-701
thermostat canbeturnedOFF ifrequiredbypressingandholding theOn/Off buttonfor2seconds.Ifthissymbolfrequently
turnsonand offregularlyorisdisplayedpermanentlythenyouwill needtocontactyourairconditioning installertocheckyour
systemandresetanyfaultsthathavebeendetected.
TZT-701Thermostat FaultIndicator.
As well asmonitoringthestatusof theairconditioning system,theTZT-701 thermostatalsomonitorsitsownhealth.The
“Spanner”symbolwill showontheLCDtoinformyouthat aninternalfault hasbeendetected.Whenafaultisdetectedall
heatingandcoolingcallsaresuspendedtoprotectthesystem fromharmand topreventrunawayheating orcooling conditions
occurring.TheindoorfanislockedtoLOWspeedtomaintainaminimumlevelofventilationduringthisfault condition.
Dependingonthefault youmayormaynotbeabletoturnyourTZT-701 thermostatOFF withtheOn/Off Button.Ifthissymbol
isdisplayedonandoffregularlyorisdisplayedpermanentlyyou will needtocontactyourAirConditioninginstallertocheck
yoursystemandresetanyfaultsthatmayhavedeveloped.
ResidentialProgrammable Mode
Yourresidential programmablethermostatisabletobeprogrammedbyyou,toautomatically
controlthedesiredhomeheatingandcoolingtemperatures.
4timesperday,7daysperweekaseparateheatingand/orcoolingtemperaturecanbe
programmedintothethermostat.Whentheprogrammedtimearrivesyourthermostatwill
automaticallyusetheprogrammeddesiredheatingandcoolingtemperaturetoautomatically
controlyourhomeairconditioningsystem.Theseprogrammedtemperatureswillremainactive
untilthenextpre-programmedeventarrivesoruntilyouoverridethesetemperaturesmanually.

Quicklypress theOn/Off buttontoturntheTZT-701thermostat On.ToturntheTZT-701thermostat OFF, press &hold this
buttonfor2secondsuntiltheword“OFF”isdisplayedontheLCD. IftheZoningfunctionisenabled(see ZoneControlonpage
13 ),taptheOn/Off buttontocyclebetweenZone1only, Zone2only, andthenbothZones.
Mode
TapthisbuttontocycletheTZT-701 thermostatthroughtheavailablemodes,Heat only,Coolonly,FanOnly,orAutoseason
changeovermode. See page4formoreinformationonModes.
Up (p)
Usethisbuttontoincreasethedesiredroomtemperaturefortheheatingorcoolingmodes, orincreasea“value”inprogramming
modes. Alsousedtoforce overrideof thepre-programmedtemperaturesandtemporarilyreplace themwithanewtemperature.
Down (q)
Usethisbuttontodecreasethedesiredroomtemperatureforheatingorcooling modes,ordecreasea“value”inprogramming

Clock

Adjustthisvalueusingtheup (p)ordown(q)buttontoshowthecorrectminute.TaptheClockbuttonagainand nowtheweek

ProgrammingYour4DailyEvents
TheTZT-701 isanindividual7-dayprogrammablethermostat.Foreachdayoftheweekyouareabletohave4timeschedulesor
programmedevents. Forclaritytheseeventsareconvenientlynamed“Wake”, “Leave”, “Return”&“Sleep”.
The“Wake”eventmaybeusedtosetthetemperaturesof your homethatyouwouldliketowakeup to.
The“Leave”eventistypicallyusedtosetthetemperaturesyouwishyourhometomaintainwhilstyouareawayat work.
The“Return”eventisoftenusedtosetthetemperatureyouwishtobegreetedwithuponreturninghomeattheendof theday.
The“Sleep”eventcanbeusedtosetacomfortableandenergyefficienttemperaturewhileyousleep.
Youarepermittedtohaveeveryeventoccurat adifferenttimeofthedayandsetadifferentheatingand coolingsettemperature
foreachof the4events.Youareabletosetaheatingset pointtemperaturebetweenHeatingOFF and38 degreesCelsius.You

schedulesorprogrammedeventsoccur.Theseeventsarenamed“Start”and“Stop”.The“Start”eventsetsthetimeyouwish
yourAirConditioning tostartat thebeginningof theday.Youcanprogram heating andcoolingtemperaturesetpoints
corresponding tothestartevent.
The“Stop”eventisusedtosettheheating and coolingtemperaturesattheendof theworkingday.Theprogrammableoptions
include“OFF”,orsimplysetamoreeconomical temperaturethanyour“Start”temperaturetopreventyouroffice over-heating
orbecoming tocoolatduringthenight.
YoucanhavetheStartand Stopeventsoccurat adifferenttimeeachdayalongwithdifferentheating andcoolingset

Thisfunctionmakesit simpletoreturntheofficetemperaturetoacomfortableworkinglevelwithoutthefearof forgettingto

OutdoorAirTemperature Display
IftheoptionalOutdoorAirsensorisfitted,thereadingisshowninthebottomlefthandcornerof theLCD.If“Zoning”isalso
enabledAND theZone2sensorfitted,theLCDwillalternate between“OutsideAir”and “Zone2”temperaturesevery5secs.
OutsideAirEconomyFunction(IfFitted)
Tofurtherimprovetheenergyefficiencyofasuitablyconfiguredairconditioning system,theTZT-701canuseoutsideairfor
cooling.Ifcoolingisrequiredandtheoutsideairiscoolenough,theoutsideaircanbedrawnin.Ifoutsideairisbeing used,the
word“Economy”will flashontheLCD.Theairconditioner’scompressor may alsorunifthecooling set pointisnotachieved.

Somehomesorofficesrequiretemperaturecontrolintwoseparateareas,alivingand sleeping
zoneforexample.IfyourTZT-701 thermostatshows theword“ZONE” thentheZoning
functionisactive. Youmayalsohaveinformationonthetemperatureinthesecondzone(ifthe
optionalsecondzonetemperaturesensorhasbeeninstalled).
IfyouhavetheZoningfunctionactiveonyourTZT-701 thermostat andtheZone-2 temperaturesensorisfitted,thenyour
desiredtemperaturewillbemaintainedinbothzonesof yourhomeoroffice.
TheTZT-701 thermostatwill automaticallyopenandclose“dampers”(motorisedvalvesthatregulatetheflowofairinthe
ductingthatcarrythewarmedorcooledairfromtheAirConditioning systemtothevariousareasof thehomeoroffice)aswell
ascontrollingtheAirConditioningsystemtodirectairtotheappropriatearea of thehomeoroffice.
Thiscapabilitynotonlyimprovesthecomfortinthehomeoroffice(especiallyintwostorybuildingsordifficult totemperature
regulateareas),itdramaticallyreducestheenergycostsbyonlyoperatingAirConditioningsystemintheareas(orzones)that
requireit.Thisfunctioneliminatestheoverheatingorovercooling effectsofsomeair-conditioning controllers.
Note,thisfunctioncannotbeusedinconjunctionwiththeOutsideAirEconomyFunction.
ChangingActiveZones.
SimplytappingtheOn/Off buttonwhiletheTZT-701 thermostat isswitchedonwill cycletheTZT-701thermostat betweenZone
1onlyoperation,Zone2only,thenbothZonesoperating. Whenazoneiscalling forwarmedorcooledair,itisdirectedtothat
particularzoneinordertomaintainthedesiredtemperature.IftheoptionalZone-2 temperaturesensorhasbeeninstalled,the
Zone-2 temperatureismeasuredand controlledtothesetpoint.TheZone-2 temperatureisalsodisplayedontheLCD.

TheTZT-701thermostat will maintainaminimumofoneopenzoneat all times.Toprotecttheairconditioningsystem
and ductingyoucannotturnbothzonesoff at thesametime.
KeyBoardLock/FunctionLock
Manyofthefeaturesorfunctionsof theTZT-701 canbelockedbytheownerorinstallertopreventun-authorisedtampering.
Whenanylockedfunctionisattemptedtobeaccessed,yourTZT-701 will flashthepadlocksymboltoinformyouthat the
functionorcontrollimithasbeenreached.
FanSpeedManagement
As toucheduponinthismanual,fanspeedmanagementisacriticalcomponentof effectiveairconditioningcontrol.Thefanis
directlyresponsiblefortheairmovementthroughyourairconditioningsystemandhome/officeandhasasignificantimpacton
howefficientlyyourairconditioning systemoperates.
TheTZT-701 monitorscomponentswithinyourairconditioningsystemand basedonthat informationcontrolsthespeedofthe
AirConditioner’sfan. Wheninthe“Auto”Fanmode, thespeedisnotexclusivelycontrolledbyroomtemperaturerelativetothe
setpoint.Otherfactorsareusedaswell.Thisof coursedoesleadtofanspeedvariation,whichcanonoccasionsbeirritating.If
so,youhavetheoptiontofixthefanspeed,butbeawarethatthismaysolvethenoiseissuebutleadtoless thanideal air
distribution. Thereisnorightorwrong setting. Itisuptotheusertodeterminewhatworksbestintheirparticularsituation.
OptimisedStart
OptimisedStartmodepermitstheTZT-701 thermostat toautomaticallycalculatethemostoptimumtimetostartyourair
conditioningsystemsothat yourprogrammedset pointtemperatureisreachedAT theprogramstarttime.
YourA/Csystemwill thereforeturnonbeforethescheduledeventsothattheset temperatureisachievedatthescheduledevent
time,notafterit.Thisisan“Installerconfigured”feature.If youbelieveit wouldbeofbenefit toyoursituation,contactyour
