GENERALDESCRIPTION
TheGoldenSabreIIishighperformanceVLFmetaldetectorthatiscapableofrejectinggroundmineralizationandburied
metallictrashsimultaneously.ItincludesNotchDiscriminationsothatmostcommonpulltabscanberejectedwithoutlosing
nickelsandsmallgoldrings,orsothatonlyaparticularbandofdesiredtargetswillbedetected.NotchToneTargetID
providesalonetonefortargetsbelowtheNotchLevelsetting,andahighertonefortargetsabovetheNotchLevelsetting.
Designemphasiswasplacedonperformanceandeaseofuse,whileminimizingoreliminatingthosetroublesome
adjustmentsandfeaturesthatcouldcausealossofperformanceifnotusedproperly.
TheSilentSearchdiscriminatemodeisbasedonmotion,whichmeansthatthesearchcoilmustbemovingslightlyto
detectatarget.Themotionrequiredissoslightthatpinpointingispossibleinthismode,howeveranomotionpinpointmode
isincluded,whichwiththe8inchopencentersearchcoilmakespinpointingaverysimpletask.Theautomaticground
rejectioncircuitryissettoallowoperationinvirtuallyanymineralizationyoumightencounter,althoughoperationmaybe
difficultinblacksand.TheGoldenSabreIIutilizesTesoro'sadvancedHighGainSensitivitycircuitrywhichwillprovidegreater
depthinparticularenvironmentsplusahigherdegreeofsensitivitytosmallerlessconductivetargetssuchasgoldjewelry.An
expandeddiscriminatorisaddedforgreaterselectivityofhardtoidentifytargetspreviouslydetectableonlywhenhuntinginAll
Metalmode.TheGoldenSabreIIiseasilyconvertedtohipmountoperationwithouttheneedofkitortools.Additionaleight

ASSEMBLY
TheGoldenSabreIIcanbeassembledineitheroftwoconfigurationsoreasilyconvertedfromonetotheother.The
electroniccontrolhousingcanbemountedonthearmrestpole,orcanbebodymounted.Installationofthelowerpoleand
coilisthesameforeitherconfiguration.
1. Depressthetwobuttonsontheupperendofthelowerstem,andslideitintotheupperstem.Pushthelowerstem
upsothatthebuttonsclickintothethirdsetofholesfromtheendoftheupperstem.
2. Insertthepoletipbetweenthemountingearsofthesearchcoil,afterremovingthescrewandthumbnut.Alignthe
holesinthepoletipandthoseinthemountingears.Besurethattherubberfrictionwashersareinplace.
Itwillbemucheasiertoinserttopoletipintothesearchcoilearsifyoumoistenthepoletipwashers.
3. Insertthecoilmountingscrewthroughthecoilandpoletip.Besuretheinternaltoothlockwasherisonthescrew
headside.
4. Installthethumbnutonthescrewandtightenbyhand.
5. Windthesearchcoilcablearoundthepole.
6. Leaveenoughslackinthecableatthesearchcoiltoallowadjustmentofthecoil'sangel.
CAUTION:Toomuchslackmaypermitthecabletoflapacrossthesearchcoilwhileinusecausingfalsesignals.
POLEMOUNT
1. Thecontrolhousingisalreadymountedonthepole,asshippedfromthefactory,soallthatisnecessaryistoinsert
thesearchcoilconnectorintothecontrolhousingconnector,andtightenfingertight.
2. Usethetwovelcrostrapstoholdthecabletightagainstthepole.
NOTE:Thecablewilllastmuchlongerinthebodymountconfigurationifsomecareistakentospreadthenecessary
flexingoveralargearea,ratherthanmakingasharpbendawayfromthepoleatcableclipwhichwouldconcentratethe
flexinginasmallarea.
BODYMOUNT
1. Tousethedetectorasabodymount,simplyremovethecontrolhousingfromtheupperpolebydepressingthe
springnutsintheplasticmountingpiece,andslidethecontrolhousingoffthepole.
2. Insertthesearchcoilconnectorintothecontrolhousingconnectorandthenfingertighten.
3. Usethetwovelcrostrapstoclampthesearchcoilcable.Itwillbebestforyoutosometimesmovethestrapssothat
thewearonthecableisspreadoveralargearea.
CONVERSION
Obviously,convertingtheunitfrombodytopolemountorviceversa,issimplyputtingthecontrolhousingbackonthe
pole,orremovingitfromthepole.Besuretokeepthesearchcoilcablewoundtightenougharoundthepolethatitdoesn'tflap
rightoversearchcoilhousing.TheGoldenSabreIIisstrongenoughtoseethetinycablewiresmoving,andcangiveyoufalse
signalsifthecableistooloose.
Thearmrestontherearofthehandlecanbemovedforwardbyremovingthescrewsandnuts,andreinstallingthe
assemblyintothemostforwardsetofholes.

CONTROLS
TheGoldenSabreIIhasfivecontrolsonitsfrontpanel,andathresholdadjustonitsrearpanel.Thefrontpanelcontrols
areallreadilyadjustedwiththeindexfingerofthehandholdingthedetector.
1. ON/OFF,BATTERYTEST,SENSITIVITYCONTROL.Theprimaryfunctionofthiscontrolistoreducethedetectors
sensitivitytothoseinfluencesthatcouldmaketheoperationmoredifficultforyou.Thiscontrolalsoisusedtoturnthe
poweronandoff.Turningtheknobcompletelycounterclockwiseuntilitclicksdisconnectsthebatteriesfromthecircuit.
Whentheknobisfirstturnedon(clockwise),thedetectorwillautomaticallytestitsbatteries,andgiveyouanaudible
indicationoftheirconnection.
NOTE:ThistestshouldbeperformedwiththeModeSwitchintheDiscriminateposition.Freshbatterieswill
causealoudaudioresponsewhichwillgraduallydecayintosilenceoveraperiodofabout4or5seconds.Asthe
batteriesageandbecomeweaker,theinitialaudioresponsewillbeweaker,andwilldecayquicker.Whentheresponse
isjustashortbuzzinsteadofalongbeep,orwhenthereisnoaudioresponse,it'stimefornewbatteries.Itis
recommendedtoalwaysusealkalinebatteries.
Manythingscancausetheresponseofthedetectortobecomeerraticasyouareusingit.Normallyyouwillnothearany
soundfromthedetectorunlessyoupassthecoiloveragoodtarget.Verylargetargetsoramultitudeofcloselyspaced
smallerrejectedtrashtargetscancausethedetectortoemitchoppysputteringsounds.CBradios,radioandTV
broadcastingantennas,intensemineralizationchanges,andothersourcesofelectricalnoisecanalsocausethedetector
toemitfalsesignals.Thesesignalswillgenerallysound"chopped"andwillnotberepeatablesoyouwillnothaveany
troublerecognizingthem.Theycanbedistracting,though,andturningdownthesensitivitycontrolwillhelpreducethem.
Thiswillalsocauseasmalllossoftargetsensitivity,soalwaysrunthesensitivitycontrolashighasyoucan,whilestill
gettingsmoothoperation.
2. SEARCHMODESWITCH.ThisswitchisusedtoselecttheAllMetalmodeofoperationortheDiscriminatemode.
TheDiscriminatemodeisaSilentSearchultraslowmotiontype,andallowsalotofusercontrolduetoitsextrafeatures
likenotchdiscrimination.TheAllMetalModeisanomotion,automatictuned,allmetalmodewhichutilizesaninternally
fixedthresholdsound.
3. DISCRIMINATELEVEL.Thiscontrolisusedtoadjustthedetector'sresponsetounwantedmetallictrashwhenused
intheDiscriminatemode.Atthelowestsetting"0",thedetectorwilleliminatemostironobjects,butwillstillrespondina
positivemannertolightfoil,bottlecaps,pulltabsandmostothermetallicitems.Astheknobsettingisincreased,
responsetomoreofthesemetallictrashitemsisreversedsothattheseobjectsgivenoresponse.Eachdetectorcan
varysomewhat,soitwouldbeagoodideatotestyourdetectoragainstvarioustargetstodetermineexactlywherethey
arerejectedbyyourdetector.DothiswiththenotchmodeswitchintheOFFposition.
4. NOTCHMODESWITCH.Thistoggleswitchisusedtoselectthefunctionofthenotchfilterinthediscriminator
circuitry.Intherejectmode,thetargetencompassedbythenotchwillberejected,andintheacceptmode,onlythose
targetsencompassedbythenotchwillbedetected.Thenotchwidthisfactorsettobejustwideenoughtoincludethe
commonpulltabsandlifttabs,sincerejectingtheseobjectswillbeitsprimaryuse.Inthecenterposition,thenotchfilter
isdisabled,sothatithasnoeffectonthedecimatedcircuit.
5. NOTCHLEVELCONTROL.Thiscontrolisusedtoadjustthenotchfilterresponsetothedesiredtargetlevelwhen
usingthenotchdiscriminatemodes.Thenotchlevelcontrolshouldalwaysbesethigherthanthediscriminatelevelbyat
leastonefullincrementforproperoperation.Thiscontrolalsocanserveasatonecontrolifthenotchfilterisnotused,
sincealltargetsbelowthenotchlevelareindicatedbyaloweraudiotonethanthoseabovethenotchsetting.Settingthe
controlat'0'willprovidethehigheraudiotoneforalltargetsdetectedintheDiscriminatemodewhilesettingitat
maximumwouldprovidetheloweraudiotone.
6. THESHOLDCONTROL.Thiscontrolisplacedonthebackpanelofthedetector,sinceitrequiresverylittleusage.
Oncethecontrolisadjustedtothedesiredthreshold,itwillnotrequirefrequentresetting.Turncontrolclockwiseor
counterclockwisetoasettingwherebythetoneisbarelyaudible.
TUNING
SincethemosttroublesomeadjustmentsofstandarddetectorshavebeenautomatedintheGoldenSabreII,thetuning
procedureforthisdetectorissimplyamatterofselectingthedesiredoperatingmode,settingthesensitivitylevel,andthe
discriminatelevel.Ifyouselectthediscriminatemode,youshouldbeginoperationwiththesensitivitycontrolsetatabout7.
Inmostsituationsyouarelikelytoencounter,youwillbebaletooperateatthissetting.Iftherearesourcesofelectrical
interferencepresent,oriftheareaisextremelytrashyormineralized,yourdetectormaygivesomefalsesignals.These
signalsaregenerallyshortchoppysoundswhichcaneasilybedistinguishedfromagoodtargetresponse.Turningdownthe
Sensitivitycontrolwillhelptoeliminatemostofthesesignals,ifnecessary.Itmayalsobepossibleinsomeareastoincrease
thesensitivitysetting.
SELECTINGTHEPROPERMODEOFOPERATION
TheGoldenSabreIIofferstwobasicoperatingmodes,PinpointAllmetalorDiscriminate.TheDiscriminatemodealso
hasthefurthercapabilityofusingnotchdiscrimination.
A. ALLMETALMODE.Thismodeisusefulforrelic,cache,ornuggethunting.Thegroundrejectionisinternallypreset
sothatnormalsoilmineralizationisslightlypositive.Thismeansthethresholdsoundwillincreasesomewhatasthe
searchcoilisloweredtotheground.Theautomatictuningshouldkeepthedetectortunedtothresholdasyouareusingit,
butbymomentarilypunchingthemodeswitchtothefasttuneposition,thedetectorcaninstantlybebroughtto
threshold.Allotherfeaturesofthedetector,suchasnotchtonetargetID#,andnotchfilter,arenotoperativewhenthe
unitisintheAllMetalMode.TheaudiosoundisalwaysthelowerofthetwonotchtoneswhenintheAllMetalMode.
B. DISCRIMINATEMODE.TheDiscriminateModeismotionbased,andrequiresthatthesearchcoilbemovingslightly
fortargetdetection.ThereisnothresholdsoundpresentasintheAllMetalMode.ThenotchtonetargetIDfeatures
worksintheDiscriminateModeevenifthenotchmodeswitchisintheoffposition.Thenotchlevelcontrolsetting
determineswhetheratargetindicationishighorlowtone.AllTargetswithphaseresponsebelowthenotchlevelsetting
willberepresentedbythelowertone'beep',thosehigherthanthenotchlevelsettingbyahighertone'beep'.
Werecommendsettingthesensitivitycontrolatthe(7)markwhenbeginningtosearchanewareainDiscriminateMode.
Ifthedetectorseemstohavealotof'chirpy'soundorfalsesignals,turnthesensitivitycontroldownslightlyuntilthesourceof
theinterferenceisovercomeandthedetectorwilloperatesmoothly.Notethatinverylargetrashareas,someclickingor
chirpysoundingfalsesignalswillbecausedbytheheavyconcentrationsofmetallictrashorbyverylargeironobjects.In
relativelycleanareas,itmaybepossibletoincreasethesensitivitysetting.
WhentheNotchmodeswitchisintheoffposition,theamountoftrashrejectioniscontrolledbytheDiscriminatelevel
Control.WiththeDisclevelcontrolsetatabout2or3,thedetectorshouldrejectfoilandferroustargets,whiledetecting
thosetargetwhosephaseresponseishigherthanfoil.Thisisshownbythesolidlinelabeledfoilreject.Asthecontrolis
increased,moreoftheremainingtargetsarerejected.Withthecontrolincreasedtoabout6or7,allofthetargetsshownare
rejectedexceptthepennyandquarter.Thisisshownbythedottedlinelabeledpulltabreject.Notethatatthislevel,the
nickelandsmallgoldringarealsorejectedasbadtargets.Sincesmallgolditemsmayhaveaphaseresponseaslowasfoil,
youcanseethatoperatinganormaldiscriminatoratthepulltabrejectlevelcanalsocauseyoutomissalotofvaluablefinds.
TheNotchFilterintheGoldenSabreIIcanhelpyoutoovercomethisinherentproblemofnormaldiscriminators.
NOTCHDISCRIMINATION.IntheNotchRejectMode,theresponseofthedetectorcanbemorecloselycontrolled.The
DiscriminatelevelControlisusedtosetthelowercutofflevel,forexample,toeliminateferroustargets,foil,andsteelbottle
caps.TheNotchFilteristhenusedtorejectthenarrowbandoftargetscontainingpulltabs.TheNotchwidthisfactorsetto
covertherangeofmostcommonpulltabsandliftringswouldfallinto,butsomepeculiartabsmaystillbedetected.Ifpull
tabshavebeenchoppedormutilatedbyalawnmower,thepiecesmaybedetectedasnickels,andofcourse,somevaluable
itemsmayhavethesamephaseresponseaspulltabsandberejected.Still,theNotchFilterallowsdetectionofnickelsand
smallgoldringswhilerejectingalmostallofthepulltabsignals.TheNotchlevelshouldalwaysbesethigherthantheDisc
level.
NOTE:ITispossibletoadjustthewidthoftheNotchFilter,butwerecommendforbestresulttoleaveitsetasitcomes
fromthefactory.IfitbecomesnecessarytoreadjusttheNotchWidthtosuitparticularcircumstances,contactyourdealerfor
details.
TheNotchAcceptModeallowsthedetectortorespondonlytoanarrowbandoftargets.Thismaybeusefulifyouare
searchingforaparticulartarget,suchasalostringortreasurehunttoken.Itisalsousefultohelpyouclassifyoridentifya
targetbeforedigging.
Eachdetectorcanvarysomewhatduetomanufacturingtolerance,soyoushouldexperimentwithyourdetectorand
becomefamiliarwiththerejectionlevelsforthesetrashitemswithyourdetector.
Earliermotiondetectorsthatoperatedwith"threshold"soundwouldgivetheuseradefiniteindicationofmetallictrashby
eithernullingcompletelyorbygeneratingshort,choppysounds.SincetheGoldenSabreIIoperateswithoutthresholdsound,
thereisnonullingtoindicatethattheareaisextremelytrashy,butundersuchcircumstancesthedetectorwillprobablyalso
emitsomeshortchirpysounds.Theseareeasytodistinguishfromthegoodtarget'slongercleanersound.
Sincethenotchfilterresponseislikea"window"thenotchlevelmustbecenteredonthedesiredtargets,ratherthanjust
sethigherthanthetarget.Thepresetmarkatthe'6'onthenotchlevelisanidealstartingpointtoprovidepulltabrejection
whilestillfindingnickels.Itwillprobablybenecessarytomakesomesmallcorrectionupordowntoaccuratelycenterthe
notchresponseonthepulltabrange.
Whensetcorrectly,thenotchlevelissettobejustwideenoughtoeliminatemostcommontabs.Thealuminumscrew
capissoclosetotheresponseofcoins,thatwefeelit'sbesttonotincludeitinthenotch.Thetargetsintheshadedarea
wouldberejectedbyaproperlyadjustednotchlevelinthenotchrejectmode.
Ifthenotchlevelweresettoohigh,thenotch'window'wouldnotincludethecompleteunbentolderstylepulltabsand
maystarttoeliminatepennies.
Ifthenotchlevelweresettolow,the'window'mayeliminatethenickel,andthenewerstyleofliftringtabswouldbe
detected.
Beginningoperationinthenotchrejectmodewiththenotchlevelcontrolsetatthe6or7markshouldputthenotch
windowreasonablyclosetothedesiredresponse.Ifyoubegintofindthecompleteolderstylepulltab,youshouldturnthe
notchleveldownslightly,andcontinuesearching.Ifyouarefindingthenewerstyleliftringswhichhavebeentornoffthecans,
it'sasignaltoraiseyournotchlevelslightly.
Nomatterwhichwayyouadjustthelevel,doitinverysmallsteps,sincethissettingisfairlycritical.
FIELDUSE
Thedetectorshouldbeheldinapositionthatiscomfortableforyou.Swingthedetectorfromsidetosideinaboutathree
footarc,overlappingsucceedingstrokeswell.Thismotioniscalleda“sweep.”TheGoldenSabreIIwasdesignedtoget
maximumdepthwithoutthefranticpacerequiredofearliermotiondetectors,sogoatapacethatiscomfortableforyou.In
fact,tryingtohunttoofastinDiscriminatemayevencausealossofdepthinheavilymineralizedlocations.
Itwouldbehelpfultoburysomecoinsandtrashmetaljunkitemsinanareathatyouknowisclearofothermetal
objects,andthentrytheunitinitsvariousmodes.ChecktheareainAllMetalModefirsttobesureitsclearoftrashthen
burythetargetsatleastafootapart,andfrom2to6inchesdeeptostart.Makeamapofthetestbedtobesureyouknow
whateachtargetisandhowdeepitis.Practiceonthesetargetstofamiliarizeyourselfwithyourdetector’stargetresponse.
Thiswillalsohelpyoulearnthepropersweeprateforbestoperation.
Regardlessofwhichmodeyouareusing,trytokeepyoursearchcoilheightconstantandclosetotheground.Most
peopletendtoraisethecoilattheendofasweep,muchlikeapendulum,especiallyiftheyarehurrying.Trytoavoidthis,as
anyincreaseinheightwillcauseacorrespondinglossofdepth.
Inareaswithwellkeptlawns,theeasiestwaytomaintainaconstantsearchcoilheightistoallowthecoiltorestonthe
grassasyousweepfromsidetoside.Inroughandrockyareasitisbestnotto“scrub”thecoilontheground,astherocks
willactlikeabrasives,andwearawaythecoilbottom(anoptionalcoilscuffcoverwillprotectagainstthis.)Sweepthecoilas
closetothegroundaspossiblewithouttouching.Hittingthegroundorrocksmaycauseafalsesignalmuchlikeadesired
targetwould.Sweepingthecoiltoohighabovethegroundresultsinalossofdepth.
WhenoperatingintheDiscriminateMode,some“falsesignals”maybecausedbyheavyconcentrationsoftrashmetal
objects,byverylargetrashitems,orbyelectricalinterference.Thesesignalswillsounddifferentthangoodtargetsignals
becausetheyaregenerallyshort,choppysounds.Attheendofyoursweep,asyouthereversethecoildirection,the
detectorismostsusceptibletotrashinducednoise.Therearetwowaystotellwhetherthesesoundsaregooddeepsignals
ortrash“noise.”Thefirstisbyrepeatability.Trashinducednoiseswillnotberegularasyousweepthecoiloverthesuspected
targetseveraltimes,whereasagoodtargetresponsewillberepeatable.ThesecondmethodistoswitchtoAllMetalMode
andcheckthetargetresponsesound.Iftheresponseisweak,itmaywellbeadeep,goodtarget;butiftheresponseisvery
strong,itisprobablytrash.Notethatacoinclosetothesurfacecangiveadoublebeepsound,butitisregularand
repeatable.Raisingthecoilaninchortwowillrestorethesinglebeeponsurfacetargets.Raisingthecoilaninchortwowill
alsomanytimescausesurfacetrashfalsesignalstosuddenlydisappear,whilegoodtargetresponsesjustbecomefainter.
Ifthetrashinanareaissoheavythatyouaregettinglotsofchoppysoundingfalsesignals,itmightbegoodtochange
toasmallercoil.Ifthisisn'tfeasible,youcanprobablygetbetterresultsbyslowingdownyoursweepspeed,andusing
shortersweeps.Itwouldbegoodtohunttheareatwice,thesecondtimeatrightanglestothefirsttime.Thistechniquewill
probablyallowdetectionofsometargetsthatwerehiddenbytrashthefirsttimeduetothesweepdirection.
Ifthereisanydoubtwhetheratargetisgoodornot,DIGIT.
Ifyoudon'tdiganyjunkatall,youaresurelypassingupalotofgoodfinds,too.SettheDISCLEVELonlyhighenough
tosuittheconditionswhereyouaresearching,andusetheNotchFilterifcalledfor.
Thedetectorisfurnishedwithan8"concentricsearchcoilwithanopencenter.Thiscoilwillyieldthebestresultsfor
mostcoinhuntingsituations.Pinpointingisgreatlysimplifiedbyanopencenter,sinceyoucannowseetheactualpointon
thegroundwhereyouwilldiginsteadofloggingyoureyesonthecoilcenterandtryingtotofollowthecoilasyoumoveitout
oftheway.Optionalcoilsof4",7"and11"areavailabletoallowyoutotailortheresponseofyourdetectortosuitspecial
situations.The4"and7"coilsareusefulforcoinshootinginextremelytrashylocationsandcanactuallygreatlyincreaseyour
numberofgoodfindsundersuchconditions,althoughsomelossofdepthwillbeexperienced.Thesmallercoilwillallowyou
todetectcoinsandothergoodtargetsmuchclosertosurfacetrashitems.The11"coilwillyieldaboutanextrainchindepth

bestresultsinmostsuchsituations,andiseasiertopinpointwiththanthelargercoils.Optionalsearchcoilsof4"through11"
areavailabletoallowyoutotailortheresponseofyourdetectortosuitotherconditions.
The4"coilisusefulforcoinshootinginextremelytrashylocations,andcanactuallygreatlyincreaseyournumberofgood
findsundersuchconditions,althoughsomelossofdepthwillbeexperienced.Thesmallercoilwillallowyoutodetectcoins
andothergoodtargetsmuchclosertosurfacetrashitems.Thelargercoilisanexcellentrelichuntingcoil,andcanprovide
greatlyincreaseddepthonlargertargets,especiallyintheAllMetalmodewheresurfacejunkwon'thidethedeeptargets.
PINPOINTING
ThesweepspeedoftheGoldenSabreIIisslowenoughtoallowpinpointingintheDiscriminateMode,butwillrequirea
littlemorepractice.Movethecoilslowlyfromsidetosideandthenfromfronttobackoverthetarget.Raisingthecoilslightly
andslowingthesweepspeedwillnarrowdownthedetectionareaenoughthatit'seasytotellwherethecoilcenterisatthe
instantofthesound.
Anothereasymethodistosweepthecoilfromsidetosideacrossthetargetinveryshortsweeps,asyouslowlymove
forwardandbackwardacrossthetarget.Slowdownthesweeprateandshortenthesweepsuntilyoujustbarelygeta
responseatonespot.Thetargetwillbedirectlybelowthecoilcenteratthisresponsetime.Infact,youwillbelookingatthe
exactspotinthegroundwhereyouwanttodig,becauseoftheopencoilcenter.
TheeasiestwaytopinpointformostpeoplewillbetoswitchtotheAllMetal,sincenomotionisrequired.Topinpointa
targetthatdoesn'tsaturatetheaudio,justmovethecoilforwardandback,andsidetosideuntilyougetthestrongestsound.
Thetargetwillbedirectlybelowthecoilcenter.Iftheaudiosaturatesoveralargearea,simplypushthemodeswitchtothe
retunepositionmomentarilyovertheareatoretunethedetector.Thiswillnarrowitsfieldofresponsetoallowyoutoonce
againseektheareaofstrongestresponse.Itmaybenecessarytoretunemorethanoncewiththistechnique.Witha
moderateamountofautomatictuning,thedetectoritselfwillbeattemptingtototunebacktothreshold,whichautomatically
narrowsdownitsareaofstrongesttargetresponse.

Alwaysobtainpermissionfromthepersoninchargebeforehuntingonprivateproperty,schoolyards,parks,churches,or

BATTERYREPLACEMENT
TheGoldenSabreIIhasanautomaticbatterytestsequencewitheachinitialpowerturnon.Tocheckthebatteries
simplyturnthedetectoroffmomentarilyandthenbackon.Whentestingthebatteries,besurethattheModeSwitchis
intheDiscposition,sothattheAllMetalthresholdsignaldoesn'taddtothebatterytestsignal.Thedetectorshould
beeploudlyforabout3to5seconds,withthesoundslowlyfadingintosilence,ifthebatteriesarefresh.Asthebatteriesage,
thissoundlessintense,andfadesoutquicker.Whenyoujusthearabriefbuzz,ornotaudioatall,replacethebatteries.
Toreplacethebatteries,pullthelargeknobonthebatterydoorontherearoftheunit.Theentiredoorwillpopout.
Removethebatterypacksfromthedetector,andthenremovethebatterypacks.Placethenewpenlightbatteriesintothe
packs,beingsurethatyouobservethepolarityindicatorsontheinsideofthepacks.Slidethepacksbackintothedetector.
Installthebatterydoorbackontothechassis,makingsurethattheplungersarestillpulledout.Thenpushtheplungersback
intolockthedoorinplace.
Werecommendwhenyoureplacethebatteries,thatyouchangeallatthesametime,andthatyoualwaysusegood
qualityalkalinebatteries.
GENERALCAREANDUSE
Ifthedetectoristobestoredforalongperiodoftime,itisbesttoremovethebatterypackfromthedetector.Thiswill
preventinternaldamagetothedetectorifthebatteriesshouldleak.Thesearchcoiliswaterproofandmaybesubmergedin
eitherfreshorsaltwater.Cautionshouldbeexercisedtopreventwaterfromenteringthechassis,whereitcoulddamagethe
electroniccircuitry.Afterthecoilisusedinsaltwater,thecoilandlowerstemassemblyshouldberinsedwellwithfresh
watertopreventcorrosionofthemetalparts.Thereareseveralgoodbookstohelpthebeginnerlearnhowtousethedetector,
wheretosearchandhowtorecoveratargetwithoutdamagingtheenvironment.Agoodcoinshootercanrecoveralotoffinds
andleavethearealookingasthoughhehadneverbeenthere.Aboveall,alwaysfillyourholeswhenyouhaverecoveredthe
target.

thebatterylife,sinceittakesmuchlesspowertooperatethem.TheGoldenSabreIIisnotequippedwithavolumecontrol,
butdoeshavealimitingcircuitintheearphonejack.Iflessvolumeisdesiredwithearphones,youmaywanttouseearphones
