2.Associate Driver with USB Dongle
Afterthesoftwareinstallationiscomplete,theUSBDongledrivermustbeassociatedwiththedevicein
ordertousethedemoapplication.ToassociatetheUSBDongledriver,firstyoumustconnecttheUSB
DongletothePC’sUSBport,ortoaUSBhubthatconnectstothePC.
ThefirsttimethatthedongleisconnectedtothePC,amessagewillmostprobablypop‐up,indicating
thatWindowsdoesnotrecognizethedevice.

WhenpromptedwhethertouseWindowsUpdatesearchforsoftware,select“No,notthistime”and
pressthe“Next”button.Onthenextscreen,selecttheoption“Installfromalistorspecificlocation
(Advanced)”,andpressthe“Next”button:
Onthenextscreen,clickthecheckboxlabeled“Includethislocationinthesearch:”,andclickthe
“Browse”button.Selectthefollowingdirectory(assumingthedefaultinstallationpathwasused):
C:\TexasInstruments\BLE‐CC254x‐1.4.0\Accessories\Drivers

Clickthe“Next”button.Thisshouldinstallthedriver.Itwilltakeafewsecondsforthefiletoload.Ifthe
installationwassuccessful,youshouldseethescreentothebelow.Clickthe“Finish”buttontocomplete
theinstallation.
3. Determining the COM Port
Oncethedriverisinstalled,youneedtodeterminewhichCOMportWindowshasassignedtotheUSB
Dongle.
Alistofallhardwaredevicesshouldappear.Underthesection“Ports(COM&LPT)”,thedevice“TI
CC2540Low‐PowerRFtoUSBCDCSerialPort”shouldappear.Nexttothenameshouldbetheport
number(forexample,theCC2540USBDongleusesCOM8).
Takenoteofthisportnumber,asitwillbeneededinordertouseBTool.Youmayclosethedevice
manageratthispoint.

4. Using BTool
TostarttheapplicationgointoyourprogramsbychoosingStart>Programs>TexasInstruments>
BLECC254x‐1.4.0>BTool.OnStart‐upyoushouldbeabletosettheSerialPortSettings.Setthe“Port”
valuetotheCOMport.Fortheothersettings,usethedefaultvalues.Press“OK”toconnecttotheUSB
Dongle.
Whenconnectedyoushouldseethescreenpresented.Thescreenindicatesthatyounowhaveaserial
portconnectiontotheUSBDongle.Thescreenisdividedupintoafewsections:theleftsidebarcontains
informationontheUSBDonglestatus.Theleftsideofthesub‐windowcontainsalogofallmessagessent
fromthePCtotheUSBDongleandreceivedbythePCfromtheUSBDongle.Therightsideofthe
sub‐windowcontainsaGUIforcontroloftheUSBDongle.
