DO NOT USE WITH ROCK SALT.
Using rock salt in this spreader will damage the mechanism and shorten the life of the product.
Refined ice melting salt can be used but the user should be aware that this is not a specialised salt
spreader and using salt may corrode the spreader and reduce the life of the machine. Clean the
spread thoroughly after using refined de-icing salt.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read and understand the owner’s manual and labels affixed to the machine. Learn its application
and limitations as well as the specific potential hazards. Retain these instructions for future
reference. The operator is responsible for following the warnings & instructions in this manual and
on the product.
Before each use, check that there is no damage to the spreader & that all fixings are tight & secure.
Replace or repair damaged parts. Use only approved parts. Unauthorised parts may be dangerous and will
invalidate the warranty.
Ensure that the operator is fully trained and competent to operate the spreader.
Ensure that all chemical safety instructions are adhered to when handling products for use in the
spreader.
Always distribute the load evenly.
Ensure all non-essential personnel keep a safe distance when the spreader is in use.
Keep hands and feet away from moving parts.
DO NOT overload the spreader - see Specification.
DO NOT leave unattended, especially when loaded.
DO NOT allow anybody to sit, stand, or ride on the spreader.
DO NOT allow untrained personnel to use the spreader.
DO NOT allow children to play in or climb onto the spreader.
DO NOT use on windy days when spreading seeds or herbicides.
DO NOT use the spreader for purposes other than for which it is designed.
DO NOT operate the spreader when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating
medicines.
Avoid large holes and ditches when using the Trailer.
Be careful when operating on steep gradients (hills) the Trailer may tip over.
Always operate at a reduced speed in rough terrain, along creeks, ditches and on hillsides.
Do not operate close to creeks, ditches and public roads.
To avoid personal injury and/or equipment damage DO NOT EXCEED 10 MPH
WARNING! Failure to comply with these instructions may result in damage to the spreader or other
property and/or personal injury.
Safety Alert Symbol. Used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that
follow this symbol to avoid possible injury.

MAINTENANCE
Maintenance spray or multi-purpose grease can be applied to the wheel axle prior to long-term
storage. Oiling is not necessary
DO NOT open the gearbox. The gears are permanently lubricated from the factory and do not
need oiling.
Prior to using the Spreader, ensure the tyres are sufficiently inflated. We recommend the use of
FOOT or HAND inflation devices only. Do not inflate above 25psi.
After each use thoroughly wash the spreader and clean material out of the hopper.
Never allow material to stay in the hopper for extended periods of time
Before storing, ensure that the spreader is clean and dry.
Store indoors or in a protected area during severe weather and in the winter months.
Periodically check all fastenings are tight & secure.
To avoid damaging the spreader, never exceed the rated load capacity of 23kg.

COMPONENTS

ASSEMBLY
STEP 1
Install the impeller onto the gearbox and axle assembly.
Align the impeller with the hole on the axle, located nearest the gearbox.
Insert M4x20 screw, through the side of the impeller and the gearbox axle. Tighten until
secure.
STEP 2
Place hopper upside down and install the u-frame using 4x M6x40 screws. Tighten until
secure.
STEP 3
Install the wheel assembly frame (with outer bushing) on each side of the gearbox axle,
ensuring the axle fixing hole is located as imaged below.
Insert M6x50 hex bolt through wheel assembly & hopper frame and secure with M6 lock nut.
Do not fully tighten the bolts.

STEP 4
Install the end of the frame brace onto the hopper frame using M6x35 hex bolt & M6 lock nut.
Install the other end of the frame brace and fix using M6x45 hex bolt.
Do not fully tighten the nuts and bolts.
STEP 5
Slide the inner axle bushing over the axle and into the outer axle bearing on both sides as
shown.
Attach wheels to the axle and fix with a M5x45 hex bolt.
Place flat washer ø16 onto one end of axle as shown and then fix the end caps onto both wheels

STEP 6
Install the pivot and bracket assembly onto the lower handle using a M6x45 hex bolt and a M6
lock nut.
Now go back and tighten all the nuts and bolts, starting at Step 1.
Do not over tighten.
STEP 7
The upper handles have three positions for the operator’s comfort. The upper handle can be
fitted to either of the two holes nearest the handle grip.
To fix, insert a hex bolt through the hole, the handle spacer and the other handle.
•Fix with a M6 lock nut.
•Do NOT tighten the nut yet.
Attach the gauge to the left hand side using M6x45 hex bolts & M6 lock nuts.
Tighten the lock nuts on the gauge first, then the handle.

STEP 8
Push the handle to the lowest position.
•Take off one of the nuts on the pivot and bracket assembly and insert head of threaded pole
into the hole of this part.
•Reattach the nut and tighten
STEP 9
•Insert the pivot rod to the shut-off plate as shown.
•Secure with a flat washer ø6 & a M6 lock nut.

STEP 10
•Following the instructions on the diagram, adjust the position of the two nuts on the threaded
pole.
•When the handle is in the closed position (downwards) the adjustable plate should cover the
large hole at the bottom of the hopper thereby ensuring that no material can fall through.
•Insert the R Pin as shown ensuring that the impeller moves in a clockwise direction.
OPERATION
Before filling the hopper, familiarise yourself with the operation of this Spreader.
The Spreader is designed to be pushed at 3 miles per hour –brisk walking pace. The rate of
walking will affect the spread pattern and flow rate.
Move the Wing Nut attached to the stop bolt on the gauge to the relevant setting.
Start pushing the Spreader forward & pull the control lever back to the stop bolt, opening the
feed-gate hole at the bottom of the hopper.
If the Spreader does not spread evenly, ensure that the FRONT of the gearbox points towards
the front of the Spreader. The impellor must rotate clockwise.
Fertiliser which is stuck on the impellor blades will cause uneven spreading.
To stop spreading, push the lever forward to close the feed-gate hole in the hopper.
Remove the agitator when using refined de-icing salt to reduce gearbox damage. Salt may
corrode the machine and reduce its working life. DO NOT USE ROCK SALT.

RATE SETTINGS
Precision spreaders are designed to spread dry, powdered or granulated materials thinly and evenly
over reasonably smooth surfaces.
Ensure that the material is dry and free-running. If in doubt pass it through a sieve with 3mm
mesh to remove lumps.
Set rate-setting dial to No 2.
Fill the hopper approximately 3/4 full.
Push the spreader forward and pull the control lever back to the Stop bolt. If the spread is
uneven or inadequate, close the feed-gate and reset the dial to a higher number.
Always move off BEFORE opening the feed-gate and close the gate BEFORE stopping.
CAUTION
The Spreader settings are guidelines only. Even branded materials may vary in grain size, humidity,
density etc. If in any doubt choose a lower setting than that suggested or start at setting no. 2 and
adjust as necessary, until an even spread is achieved.
WARNING
Do not over apply spreading material. Follow the recommended coverage rate for each product.
Over application will lead to damage and contamination. If spreading material accidentally
deposits too heavily, soak the area thoroughly with a garden hose or sprinkler to prevent burning.
CONSISTENT COVERAGE
To ensure consistent coverage, ensure each broadcast pattern slightly overlaps the previous, as
shown below. N.B. ALWAYS MOVE OFF BEFORE OPENING FEED-GATE.ALWAYS CLOSE FEED-GATE BEFORE
STOPPING
It is impossible for us to list all manufacturer products and therefore we have listed some popular
brands and suggest you compare the granule size with your own product and apply the same area
spreading rate. If unsure, following the instructions above.

GJ HANDY & CO LTD USER WARRANTY POLICY
1. Users Statement of Warranty
Each new machine is warranted against defective material or assembly of material under
normal usage. The warranty applies to the original purchaser and covers faulty parts and the
labour involved in replacing and repairing those parts, which are of original manufacture.
2. Period of Warranty
All Webb, Handy Pro (Brushcutter & Long Handle Hedgecutter only) and Sanli domestic
products
2 years from the original date of sale to the first domestic user.
90 days from the original date of sale to the professional/commercial user.
90 days from the original date of sale when used for hire.
Engines as per the manufacturer’s warranty statement which will be supplied with the
machine.
1 year from the original date of purchase for Replacement Spare Parts (unless normal wear
& tear component, which are covered for 90 days).
All machines’ must be serviced within the first 12 months from the original date of purchase
to comply with the warranty, failure to do so will invalidate the 2nd year of the warranty.
A reduced warranty period of ninety days applies to those items which are subject to normal
wear and tear (e.g. wheels, tyres, cutter bars, cylinders, bottom blades, belts, cables, grass
bags, spark plugs).
All Handy, Handy Pro (All others), Mowerland and Q-Garden domestic products
1 year from the original date of sale to the first domestic user.
90 days from the original date of sale to the professional/commercial user.
90 days from the original date of sale when used for hire.
Engines as per the manufacturer’s warranty statement which will be supplied with the
machine.
1 year from the original date of purchase for Replacement Spare Parts (unless normal wear
& tear component, which are covered for 90 days).
A reduced warranty period of ninety days applies to those items which are subject to normal
wear and tear (e.g. wheels, tyres, cutter bars, cylinders, bottom blades, belts, cables,
collection bags, spark plugs).
All warranty repairs must be undertaken by an authorised service dealer.
These dealers have been accredited by GJ Handy & Co Ltd and agree to only use genuine
parts and follow our repair procedures.

3. Not covered by this warranty
The warranty policy does not cover any depreciation or damages caused by ordinary wear,
rusting or corrosion, lack of correct maintenance or operation, misuse, abuse, lack of
transportation or accident.
The warranty policy does not cover any costs necessary for the standard periodic
maintenance services instructed by the operators manual, or service parts replacement
which would include oil, filters, tyres, belts, brake linings, fuses, blades, seals and other
service parts unless it can be proven that the item has evidence of faulty manufacture.
The warranty policy will not cover failure or damage caused as a result of parts or
accessories being modified without the written approval of GJ Handy & Co Ltd.
The warranty policy will not cover the unit if non-genuine parts have been fitted and as a
result damage has occurred to the unit.
The warranty policy is non-transferable and is only applicable to the original purchaser.
4. Disclaimer
This warranty is only a remedy for defect of products. GJ Handy & Co Ltd will never warranty
in terms of the merchantability or the fitness for a particular purpose.
No person is authorised to make any warranties, representations or promises, expressed or
implied, on behalf of GJ Handy & Co Ltd, or to modify the terms conditions or limitation of
this warranty policy in any way.
Neither GJ Handy & Co Ltd nor any company affiliated with GJ Handy & Co Ltd shall be liable
in any event or manner whatsoever for incidental or consequential damages or injuries,
including, but not limited to, loss of crops, loss of profit, out of pocket expenses or profits,
rental of substitute equipment or other commercial losses.
5. General
Most warrantable failures show up within the first few weeks of use. These failures are
usually straightforward and warranty assessment is relatively easy.
Failures relating to cutter decks and belts need careful investigation, as the cause may not
always be straightforward. Look for damage to blades and pulleys especially when the cutter
belt or blade boss have snapped or cracked as this could be due to impact damage.
Customers should always refer to the operator/instruction manual when any disputed
problem arises, you will find most areas covered within the manual.
