Theiling ROLLERMAT COMPACT I User manual

Operation Manual
ROLLERMAT COMPACT I
Automatic mechanical filter for fresh and saltwater aquariums.
The Rollermat removes waste particles from the water. Biofilter and protein skimmer are
relieved and the result is crystal clear water.

1. Construction
Front view: The motor and the level
switch are on the back side
2. Working principle
The polluted water flows into the dirty
water chamber and passes the filter
fleece. From here it flows back into the
filter sump. If the fleece is loaded with
dirt, the flow through the fleece
decreases and the water level in the
dirty water chamber rises. If it reaches
a certain level, a level switch starts the
motor and a small part of fresh fleece
is loaded on the grid. Fully
automatically. It will take 4 –6 months,
depending on the waste production in
the system until the complete fleece is
used and has to be replaced.
The Fleece is very fine. Even smallest
particles are removed. The dirt is
filtered out of the system, before it is
metabolized biologically. This relieves the biofilter and the protein skimmer in seawater.
The pores of the fleece are even fine enough to retain many protozoa, like fish parasites in fresh and
saltwater. They cannot pass the fleece. This is unique.
3. Features of the Rollermat:
Efficient mechanical filtration by fine
filter fleece
Automatic transport of the fleece.
Easy changing of the used fleece roll.
The rolls are easy to change, up to 100 m
length.
The roll is 10 cm wide, for flow rates up
to 2000l/h, depending on the water
quality.
Minimum power uptake. Average below 0,1w.
12V safety voltage
The fleece is transported from the releasing roll to the accepting roll. The rolls are driven by gear
wheels by gear wheels. I f the accepting roll is full –or the releasing roll empty, it can be taken out of
the filter easily. Both parts can be separated and the fleece can be discarded.

1. Inserting a new fleece roll
If the fleece roll is replaced, it must be taken care, that the
0-rings at the left and right side of the new roll are mounted
in the right way. They prevent, that the roll is turning freely.
This keeps the fleece always taut.
The inlet piping is secured with a clip. To change the roll,
loosen it and remove the complete inlet piping. Take care
not to get stuck at the level switch.
1. Clip
2. 2. Gear wheel.
The new roll is now inserted.
The fleece is directed from the
new roll downwards. Hold the
end of the fleece tight while
remounting the inlet pipe. This
presses the fleece to the
bottom towards the grid. If the
inlet pipes are in the right
position, you can close the clip.
Now you can tear the fresh end
of the fleece and wind it round
the receiving roll. You can use a
piece of tape to fix it there. The
receiving roll is now pressed
into its place so that the gear
wheel of the roll and the gear
wheel of the motor match.
The connection cable can be
pushed into the transformer and
secured with the nut. The
direction of the poles does not
matter. If the transformer is
connected to the mains, you can
press and hold the switch at the
electronic compartment to start
the motor and the fleece is
pulled taut. Now the Rollermat
Compact I is ready to start.

Advice for heavily polluted water:
In this case, the fleece roll may be used quite quickly. It may occur that the dirty roll cannot
dry in time and get too heavy for the motor to turn it. In this case, we recommend cutting the
fleece once it is half used and discard the dirty fleece. The rest can be remounted and used
until the end.
5. Set Up
Aquarium: The Rollermat can be
placed into the filter sump below the
aquarium.
Alternatively, it can be placed above
the water level, so that the purified
water can flow freely back into the
aquarium. If it is placed inside of the
filter sump, the water level in the
sump is always kept minimum 5 cm
below the level of the water outlet.
The water flows freely through the
filter.
Left fig: max water level in the filter
sump.
The motor of the Rollermat has a power uptake of 4W and is operated with 12V~ safety voltage. A
transformer is included.
Connection:
The water inlet is connected to the top of the Rollermat Compact I. The connection fits hoses with a
diameter of 25, 30 and 40 mm inner diameter. It can be cut at the right diameter. The hose is
connected to the overflow of the aquarium –or to a separate pump. The flow rate may not exceed
2000l/h. (c. 500 gph.) The water outlet is located at the bottom of the unit. The water can flow freely
into the filter sump. Alternatively a pipe with 25 mm diameter can be connected. The diameter of the
water outlet may not be reduced. If you use a 25 mm pipe, you must take care, that the water can
flow freely. It may not be directed upwards –not above the height of the water outlet of the unit.
Emergency overflow:
The outlet in the center of the Rollermat Compact is the emergency
overflow. It can be connected to a 25 mm PVC pipe and directed into
the filter sump. Alternatively a 25 mm hose fitting may be pressed
into the outlet and a hose can be connected to direct the water back
into the sump.
