This is the user & installation manual for your Thetford hob. (Model SHB16950Y).Read the safety instructions and
information on installation, use and maintenance of the hob carefully, before continuing. This will enable you to
use the hob safely and efficiently. Retain this manual for future reference.

Electrical Features of Fuel Burning Equipment
In your own interest of safety, gas appliances should be installed by competent persons.
Failure to install the appliance correctly could invalidate any warranty or liability claims.
This appliance shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturers’ installation instructions, local and state
codes or, in the absence of such codes, with the Standard for Recreational Vehicles, NFPA 1192 & the National
Electrical Code NFPA 70.

General

FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH THE APPLIANCE BEFORE CONNECTING IT
TO ITS GAS CONTAINER.
KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
Ensure all users are given instruction on safe use of the appliance and
understand the hazards involved
The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage resulting from
improper use or incorrect setting of controls.
DO NOT use this appliance as a space heater to heat or warm the room.
Doing so may result in carbon monoxide poisoning.
DO NOT modify this appliance.
DO NOT leave appliance unattended when in use.
NEVER use an open flame to find the leak!
NEVER try to extinguish a cooking fire with water. Turn the burner off
and cover the flame with a lid or fire blanket

Children/ People with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities
This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years or older, and
person with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities and/or
lack of experience and knowledge-ONLY if they are SUPERVISED or have
been given instructions on the safe use of this appliance and
understand the potential hazards.
Keep children younger than 8 years away from the appliance, except
under constant supervision.
CAUTION: Accessible parts may be very hot. Keep young children away.
DO NOT allow children to play with the appliance.
DO NOT allow children to clean or maintain this appliance unattended.
Surroundings
Maintain the minimum distances between the burners and side, rear,
and overhanging parts. Any deviation could result in excessive
temperature rise. See Minimal safe distances for more information.
If the minimum dimensions must be reduced, due to design constraints,
a temperature rise test of all furniture fitted around the appliance must
be performed.
Where the minimum dimensions are reduced, it is recommended to
install non-combustible material
DO NOT store/place items on/near to the cooking surface of the hob.
DO NOT use flammable materials on or near this appliance.
DO NOT obstruct the air supply to the gas burners or the hob surface in
any way.

All combustible materials such as curtains and shelves must be kept well
clear of the appliance.
Protect the underside of the appliance with a shield, made from non-
combustible material, if the space below the hob is used for storage or
another appliance.
Operating
Unattended cooking on a hob with fat or oil can be dangerous and may
result in Fire.
DO NOT spray aerosols in the vicinity of this appliance whilst it is in
operation.
DO NOT use this appliance if it is leaking, damaged or does not operate
properly.
DO NOT use this appliance if it has worn or damaged seals.
The burners and pan supports are hot during and after use. Allow parts
to cool before touching them, as this can cause serious injury.
The glass lid may snap shut towards the end of lowering due to the
travel-lock action of the hinges. Ensure hands and fingers are clear of
the appliance when closing the lid.
DO NOT shut the glass lid when the burners are lit or still warm.
This appliance is NOT intended to be operated by means of an external
timer or separate remote-control system.
The use of this gas cooking appliance results in the production of heat,
moisture, and products of combustion in the room in which it is
installed.
Ensure the room has sufficient ventilation when the appliance is in use.

During prolonged use, additional ventilation may be needed by opening
a window or increasing the extraction force.
The use of inappropriate hob guards can cause accidents.
DO NOT reach over a lit appliance to gain access to overhead storage
cabinets
DO check that controls are in the ‘OFF’ position when finished.
DO turn pan handles away from the front to avoid accidents
Maintenance
DO NOT use steam cleaners or pressure washers to clean the appliance.
See Maintenance and cleaning for instructions.
DO NOT allow oil or fat to build up on the appliance. Clean the
appliance after each use.
DO NOT use harsh abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers to clean
the surface of the glass, as they can scratch the glass surface which may
result in shattering of the glass.
Remove any spillage from the glass lid before opening the lid.
Installation & Servicing
Gas & Electrical appliances should ONLY be installed by qualified and
certified professionals.
DO NOT modify this appliance unless the modification is authorised and
conducted by the manufacturer or their agent.
Use only parts supplied by the manufacturer.

This appliance MUST only be serviced by an authorized person.
Wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment during installation.
Also follow the applicable safety regulations.
Ensure that the type of gas & pressure match the specification of the
appliance. You can find the specification on the data badge.
Pay close attention to the current regulations on ventilation in the
country of use.
The installation MUST provide for adequate air supply for combustion
to the burners, safe removal of combustion products and avoidance of
accumulation of unburned gases.
If it is not possible to install the appliance in accordance with this
instruction, please refer to Thetford for further guidance.

Serviceability
If not installed to instructions detailed herein, we the manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any
problems that occur, or poor performance either perceived or witnessed.
The installer of Thetford products is responsible for correct installation according to the Thetford
installation instructions to ensure the functionality and serviceability of the product.
In terms of serviceability, this means that a dealer or authorised Thetford service partner must be able to remove
and re-install the Thetford product within the time that is allowed according to the Thetford time-list, using
standard tools and equipment.
This is to claim any warranty during the warranty period after the purchase date.
In case of any queries on this subject, a Thetford local service representative can be contacted for additional
support related to the installation of the product.

Position and placement
This appliance can be positioned using surface/ flush mounting.
▪Remove all the packaging materials from the appliance
▪Place the template on the worktop to check dimensions.
The template provides 2 options:
1. A for surface mounting
2. B for flush mounting. Flush mounting has the extra rebate, not a full cut-out for the area
between A and B.
▪Draw the sizes and dimension on the worktop as shown below.

▪Cut the aperture with a saw/router (Template A)
▪Position the appliance so it is centred and level in the cut-out.
▪There must also be a gap of 2-3mm between the appliance and sides of the cut-out.
▪Install appliance into worktop using clamps, as shown below:

Option B: Flush mounting
▪Cut the aperture with a saw/router (Template B)
▪Adjust the rebate depth (K- 6mm or 15/64”)
▪Position the appliance so it is centred and level in the cut-out.
▪There must also be a gap of 2-3mm between the appliance and sides of the cut-out.
▪Install appliance into worktop using clamps, as shown below.

Location
The appliance MUST be positioned free from draughts, which may affect the combustion and other fire
hazards.
It MUST also be positioned in a manner that will prevent the accumulation of unburnt gas.
This appliance may be installed in a kitchen / kitchen diner, but not in a room containing a bath or a
shower.
Propane appliances MUST NOT be fitted below ground e.g. in a basement.
ALL combustible materials such as curtains and shelves MUST be kept well clear of the appliance, and
their installation should meet all relevant local and state regulations/standards in force.
Minimal Safe Distances
Maintain the minimum distances between the burners and side, rear, overhanging parts & any
adjacent devices. Any deviation could result in excessive temperature rise.
If the minimum dimensions must be reduced, due to design constraints, a temperature rise test of all
furniture fitted around the appliance must be performed.
Where the minimum dimensions are reduced, it is recommended to install non-combustible material
Check the allowable temperatures of the materials used via the standards mentioned in the
Introduction
Models with a glass lid, the distance to the rear of the appliance can be reduced to 11/2”
Any adjoining wall surface situated within 41/2” from the side MUST be made from a suitable non-
combustible material for a height of 6” for the entire length of the hob.

30 “(inches) (760mm) is the minimum vertical distance to combustible material above the cooktop. This
distance may be reduced by using non-combustible construction in accordance with table 5.6.6.5
Vertical Clearances to Combustible Material or Metal Cabinets in NFPA1192:2021.
▪Provide an air gap of at least 1 3/8” (30mm) under the unit (A), using non-combustible material
Maintain provision for the dispersal of unburnt gas, for example a gas drop hole.
▪Provide a ventilation gap of 5/16” x 3 5/16” (8x100mm) (B)
▪Protect the underside of the appliance with a shield, made from non-combustible material, if the space
below the hob is used for storage or another appliance.
▪If the enclosure is manufactured from combustible material, then a minimum air space of 100mm must
exist between the material and the lowest part of the appliance.
THIS AIR SPACE MUST BE WELL VENTILATED
Ventilation
▪Use of a gas cooking appliance results in the production of heat and moisture in a room in which it is
installed. Ensure that the kitchen is well ventilated and in accordance with local and state codes.
▪Gas cooking appliances needs fresh air for safe operation.
▪Before operating open vents, or windows slightly, or turn on exhaust fan prior to using the cooking
appliance. Gas flames consume oxygen, which should be replaced to ensure proper combustion.
Improper user can result in serious injury or DEATH.
DO NOT obstruct the flow of combustion or ventilation air.
The appliance SHOULD have adequate ventilation for complete combustion of gas, proper flueing
and to maintain temperature of immediate surroundings within safe limits.
The appliance SHOULD NOT be installed with a ventilation system that blows air downward toward
the range. Downward ventilation systems may cause ignition and combustion problems with the gas
cooking appliance resulting in personal injury or unintended operation.
Adherence to national standards regarding ventilation for the recreational vehicles into which the
appliance is to be installed is a MUST.

The appliance MUST be installed into an enclosure having a gas escape hole beneath the appliance.
The gas escape hole must vent to the outside and have a cross-sectional area between 3”2 and 6 “2
and should be baffled to prevent direct draught to the appliance.
When in use ensure that air vents are NOT inadvertently blocked or shut off.
It is recommended any cupboards located beneath the appliance be sealed to prevent a gas escape entering the
living area.
Connecting to Services (Gas & Electricity)
Connecting to Gas
▪A 3/8“NPT to 3/8“Flared pipe fitting provides the gas inlet connection on the underside of the appliance.
It is recommended that the appliance be connected by copper tubing.
NEVER use a rubber tubing or hose connection
▪After connection the appliance must be tested for soundness.
This appliance is suitable for use on:
Propane Gas Only 11” WC (27.4mbar)
Max regulator inlet pressure ½” psi (34.5mbar)
Regulator supply pressure 12” WC (30.0mbar)
Manifold working pressure 11” WC (27.5mbar)
It is important that the regulator should be set to the correct pressure for the type of gas being used.
Excessive pressure MUST NOT be permitted.
▪If the flame on the burners has a tendency to lift, it is probable that the line pressure is TOO GREAT.
▪Should there be excessive yellow tips (resulting in sooting) then it is probable that the line pressure is
TOO LOW.
In either case, DO NOT use until the line pressure has been checked.
▪The burners on this appliance have fixed aeration and no adjustment is necessary.
Pressure Testing
▪The appliance and its individual shutoff valve MUST be disconnected from the gas supply system
during any pressure testing.
▪When satisfied with the appliance and after instructing the user on the correct method of operation,
these instructions MUST be left with the appliance.
▪If the appliance fails to operate correctly after all checks refer to the authorised service provider in
your area.

Connecting to Electricity
▪Connection to the 12V DC electrical supply of the recreational vehicle is made via 2 way plug (1-
480698-0) connected to the spark ignition generator.
▪A supply cord terminating in sheathed spade connectors is recommended.
Spark generator spade connectors are for LOW voltage battery or DIRECT Current ONLY
DO NOT connect to 120 or 240 Volts AC.
Connect ONLY to protected circuit fused not more than 1 Amp

After Installation
▪After installation the appliance MUST be tested for soundness
▪Test ALL burners on high and low flame for flame stability.
▪The gas supply input pressure MUST NOT rise or fall significantly from nominal when ALL appliances
connected to the supply are operated simultaneously.
▪Test ALL gas piping and connections and make sure they DO NOT leak.
▪Ensure that ALL packaging materials have been removed.
▪Fix WARNING LABELS as prescribed by the current NFPA1192 & NFPA70

Before using the appliance:
▪Ensure that all packaging materials have been removed.
▪Clean the appliance with warm water and household detergent and dry carefully with a soft cloth.
▪Ensure that the propane gas supply is connected and turned on.
▪In the event of a gas smell turn off at gas and contact supplier.
▪Ensure that the appliance is connected to the 12V DC battery for the spark ignition
▪Ensure that the pan supports are positioned properly. (Position and turn anti-clockwise)
▪Ignite the gas burners and let them burn to expel odors and vapors first.
CONTROL POSITIONS
For the exact location of the control knobs, see Main Components.
The burners on this appliance have fixed aeration and no adjustment is required.
The burners should flame as follows: -
Propane - The flames should burn quietly with a blue/green colour with no sign of yellow tips.
Top cover (glass lid) MUST be open when burners are in operation
Turning ON:
▪Push and turn the control knob.
▪Turn the control knob anti-clockwise to the full rate position. (HI-LITE)
▪Pushing the knob initiates the spark ignition (Or in event of power failure light by a match/taper held to
the burners)
▪Keep the control knob pressed for about 10-15 seconds and then release it.
▪Adjust the height of the flame.
▪For simmering, turn the knob further anti-clockwise to the ‘LO’ position.
If the burner accidentally extinguishes turn the control knob to the ‘OFF’ position
and wait at least 1 minute before re-igniting the burner.
If the burner has not lit within 15 seconds turn the control knob back to the ‘OFF’
position and release it. Wait at least 1 minute and repeat the steps above to turn
on the appliance.

Turning OFF:
▪Turn the control knob clockwise to the ‘OFF’ position to turn off the burner.
Always make sure the control knob is in the ‘OFF’ position when you have finished
using the gas burners.
DO NOT shut the glass lid when the burners are lit or still warm.
DO NOT allow cooking vessels to overlap the edges of the appliances use the
correct sizes of pans and position them centrally over the burners.
▪Ensure that there is at least a 10mm gap between the pans and the edges of the hob.
DO NOT let handles overhang the front of the appliance.
▪Ensure that the flame of the gas burner heats the bottom of the pan, not the sides.
▪Avoid old or misshapen pans as these may cause instability
DO NOT leave the appliance unattended when in use.
DO NOT use the appliance while the vehicle is moving.
DO NOT use for any other purpose than cooking.
▪Turn the control knob back to the ‘OFF’ position after cooking.
▪Keep the appliance clean and prevent accumulation of grease and food scraps.
The glass lid MUST be opened fully when using the hotplate burners.
9. Safe Cooking
Pan Sizes:
1. Ø 120mm-140mm/ Ø 4 ¾“- 5 ½”
2. Ø 120mm-200mm/ Ø 4 ¾“- 7 7/8”
3. Ø 140mm-260mm/ Ø 5 ½” –10 ¼”

Thetford recommends an annual inspection service by an approved service center. Between annual servicing,
clean the appliance regularly after use. Before any maintenance work is started, the appliance should have been
left to cool and be disconnected from the gas and/or electrical supplies.
Cleaning
▪Always remove any spills or contamination immediately after use with soap and hot
water. Towel dry the surface with a soft cloth.
▪Use a non-abrasive multi-purpose cream cleaner and a nylon scourer pad to clean
more stubborn dirt or grease.
DO NOT use abrasive cleaners, metal scouring pads or hard brushes. They could
damage the appliance.
If you clean the burner rings, ensure that the holes are not clogged.
Remove any spillage from the glass lid before opening the lid.
The control knobs can be removed for cleaning. The knobs are easy to replace.
As soon as you smell gas:
▪Ensure that all burners are TURNED OFF.
▪Extinguish all naked flames and DO NOT smoke.
▪DO NOT touch any electrical switches
▪DO NOT use any phones in your recreational vehicle
▪Evacuate the recreational vehicle of all occupants.
▪Turn OFF the gas supply tank valve(s) or main gas supply, immediately.
▪Immediately call your gas supplier /dealership/ service center/ fire department for
instructions.
▪DO NOT USE!
▪Have the gas system checked and leakage source corrected by a qualified installer, service
agency, manufacturer or dealer or the gas supplier.
LPG is heavier than air. Escaping gas accumulates at lower levels.
NEVER use an open flame to find the leak!
Close the gas valve at the gas bottle.
▪Disconnect the battery.
▪Ensure the control knobs are in the ‘OFF’ Position.
▪Close the glass lid.
▪Wipe the appliance clean & dry
