585(i) v6 - Residential Wireless ADSL2+ Gateway
With the SpeedTouch 585(i), users can experience wireless
freedom at lightning-fast speeds. The SpeedTouch 585(i)
is an 802.11a/g wireless LAN access point with integrated
ADSL. Featuring an integrated 10/100Mb/s 4-port switch,
the SpeedTouch 585(i) offers seamless connection of wired
and wireless worlds from anywhere in the home.
The SpeedTouch 585(i) lets you share fi les, printers, and a
single broadband ADSL Internet connection with unmatched
performance and security, whilst preserving the fl exibility
and features of a fully fl edged professional routing engine.
The integrated modem supports ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+.
With a simultaneous operation of 802.11a and 802.11g,
speed, security and performance is guaranteed. When using
802.11g components, you can transfer data at up to 54Mb/s
(fi ve times the speed of older 802.11b wireless
networks), and still connect to existing 802.11b products.
The SpeedTouch 585(i) also supports powerful security
mechanisms such as Wi-Fi Protected Access™ (WPA), Wired
Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption, and a physical user
registration button, which allow users to communicate and
access data with effi cient link quality and the
highest level of network security.
Easy to install
The SpeedTouch Wireless Home Install Wizard makes
setting up a home wireless network as easy as Ethernet,
thereby drastically reducing helpdesk calls. This unique and
robust mechanism confi gures and secures your SpeedTouch
ADSL access point and wireless network clients from a single
CD. The wizard performs comprehensive system checks
before and during the installation process, and validates all
user inputs, in order to guarantee the end-user a secured
wireless connection (using WEP or WPA) to the Internet.

Secure
The SpeedTouch fi rewall guarantees users the ultimate level in network security.
Through integration with Hyper-NAT, the fi rewall leverages all the ALGs provided
in the Hyper-NAT context to minimize undesired service impact. The SpeedTouch
fi rewall provides stateful inspection of packets, and an integrated Denial of
Service (DoS) engine monitors a wide range of attack patterns, and logs potential
security breaches to a local cache or remote server.
Filtering of unwanted content on the Internet also got integrated in the
SpeedTouch 585(i). Three levels of content fi ltering are available:
• Basic Content Filtering provides white list/blacklist based url fi ltering, which
can be maintained locally or remotely.
• Standard Content Filtering provides subscription based URL blocking using a
network located URL database for URL classifi cation.
• Advanced Content Filtering is a subscription-based service that additionally
provides a dynamic mechanism for classifying and blocking content.
The classifi cation database is an on-line store of characterized URL’s, which is
continuously updated. The SpeedTouch Gateway queries the database for each
http request and decides on serving the page based on the policy assigned
to the requestor.

and robust delivery of multimedia services from the core of the network right to
the end user.
• TR-37 enables auto-confi guration of network bandwidth according to service
needs, allowing seamless integration with the network’s provisioning system.
• Diffserv IPQoS
• WiFi QoS such as WME guarantee local delivery of streamed media to the
service delivery nodes
• Smart DNS and DHCP supports smooth introduction of media delivery nodes
like Set Top Boxes, VoIP phones, etc.

FLEXIBundLE
The FLEXIBundLE architecture enables service providers to defi ne, manage and
evolve the characteristics of the service offered by the SpeedTouch to the end
user. This allows a SpeedTouch 585(i) to adopt the specifi c features of a
differentiated service offering. The basis for this architecture is an extensive
multi-role, multi-user management framework that allows each individual
component of the Gateway to be (de-)activated independently and remotely.
Hyper-NAT with IP pass-through
Hyper-NAT delivers absolute fl exibility in managing any type of Network
Address and/or Port translation, enabling seamless operation of servers on the
local network. An extensive list of Application Level Gateways complete this
powerful architecture to simultaneously enable services like:
• any-to-many IPSec,
• L2TP and PPTP pass-through
• IP pass-through
• SIP, H.323, H.450, …
• FTP, RTSP, IPv6inIPv4, Jabber, Netmeeting, Microsoft Messenger ...
