Introducing Toshiba’s IPedge EP Server
Toshiba is proud to announce the release of the IPedge EP system as the newest member of the IPedge
family of pure IP systems. The IPedge EP system delivers big-company features at an affordable price for
small businesses and branch locations. Like the other IPedge systems, the IPedge EP system performs
call processing, voice mail, unified messaging, and media processing which includes conferencing and
paging, centralized management, Call Manager unified communications, and more. IPedge EP system
uses Red Hat®Enterprise Linux®5.4 operating system that provides a high level of scalability and
security.
The IPedge EP system (shown below) is easy to install. The IPedge EP system supports applications for
up to 40 users.
The IPedge EP system can be set on a shelf or table horizontally or vertically using an optional base
(shown below). It can also be installed on a standard 19” rack using the optional rack-mount kit.
IPedge EP system can also connect to a MAS or MicroMAS to run ACD and TASKE, and it can connect to
uMobility and other external applications.
Networking between IPedge servers and/or Strata® CIX™ systems is enabled via IPedge Net using one
IP address.

Description
Toshiba’s IPedge EP server is an all IP system designed for ease of installation, use and maintenance. It
integrates all the necessary customer centric applications as shown below.
System Configurations
A stand alone system is a individual IPedge server.
An enterprise network system is two or more nodes, at a single site or multiple sites. Each node is an
individual IPedge server. The nodes are connected by a wide area network. Each enterprise network
system has one primary node and one or more member nodes.
•The Primary node manages the centralize database, sends commands and directs database backup
and restore functions via this network.
•The Member nodes are managed by Enterprise Manager in the primary node. This allows centralized
administration and the consolidated, system-wide single page database view. The nodes can be
connected via IPedge Net for call processing transparency.
Note that a member node will continue to process calls if communication with primary node fails.

IPedge Solutions
On a single server, IPedge provides the following:
•Call Processing – IPedge provides the basic and advanced call processing features with a single IP
interface.
•Voice Mail / Unified Messaging – Voicemail is built in and can be configured as either a single
centralized voicemail system for the entire enterprise or as a distributed voicemail system for each
site.
•Unified Communications - Unified Communications is built in. IPedge includes Call Manager Standard
for every user which provides call control features from a PC. The optional Call Manager Advanced
upgrade includes Chat, Presence, Contacts and more.
•Existing users of the powerful Call Manager (CM) will continue to enjoy all the features of the CM
in the new IPedge Call Manager. The smart installation procedure will install CM or SCM based on
which system the client connects to.
•Centralized Management for Multiple Sites – The Enterprise Manager resides on the IPedge Server
and enables an administrator to manage all trunks and stations in all the servers of the enterprise,
using one consolidated view. From one central location, the administrator can backup and restore
configurations of all sites, and update the firmware on any or all phones in the enterprise. The
centralized access to an enterprise system is through the IPedge enterprise system primary node. The
EP server can be a member node of an enterprise system where an EC or EM server is the primary.
In addition to the above, the IPedge server can connect to a separate MAS or MicroMAS server to include:
•ACD, Networked ACD (ACD + Unifier), and Call Center Reporting (TASKE or Insight)
•uMobilityTM
The IPedge EP server can connect to a Luca or Lucas server to include Meet-me conferencing.

UPS RECOMMENDATIONS
Toshiba recommends an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with power conditioning for the IPedge
server. The recommended UPS from ONEAC are shown in the table below. The UPS shown in the table
include power conditioning. If you already have a UPS in place Toshiba recommends that you install a
power conditioner (P/N PC075A-S2S).
Software
The following software is included and installed on the IPedge server:

Deployment
The administration software, Enterprise Manager is built into the platform which reduces installation time.
The Enterprise Manager can be securely accessed from any PC with a web-browser. The administrator
can view all the servers and all stations connected to each server in the enterprise in one consolidated
view which aids in planning the numbering scheme. The consolidated view of an enterprise system is
through the IPedge enterprise system primary node. The EP server can be a member node of an
enterprise system where an EC or EM server is the primary.
A single IP Address is required for IPedge Net routing configuration. IPedge Net configuration is improved
with the use of “Quick Access Guides” to all the programs required to configure IPedge Net. It guides the
administrator step-by-step through the configuration.

Administration
IPedge Enterprise Manager provides a web interface for users to configure data, manage, control and
maintain all components of these applications, and to coordinate the configuration of all IPedge Solutions
in an Enterprise System. The system can be administered remotely over the Internet. No administration
application is required on the user’s PC.
In a networked multi-site system, all nodes are administered through a single location which provides
centralized administration and database backup for the entire system. The centralized access to an
enterprise system through the IPedge enterprise system primary node. The EP server can be a member
node of the enterprise system where an EC or EM server is the primary.
Configuration
In a typical network configuration with IPedge, the IPedge server is placed behind the NAT firewall and
given a private IP address.
IPedge provides SIP trunking for incoming and outgoing calls. On the LAN, IPedge works with the Soft IPT
and IP telephones. An FXO/T1/ISDN gateway is used to connect the all IP IPedge solution to PSTN
networks.
Strata CIX system users can migrate to IPedge and minimize their investment by using their Strata CIX
system as a gateway for PSTN interfaces and DKT telephones. The Strata CIX is networked to IPedge
through IPedge Net.

Multi-node IPedge and Strata CIX systems can be networked together using IPedge Net.
Note The IPedge EP system can be a member node of an IPedge network. While, an IPedge EC or EM
system can be a primary node or a member node.

Warranty
IPedge servers include a standard 1 year limited warranty on hardware that includes advanced
replacement. This warranty can be extended for a period of 2 or 3 years.
The IP5000-series telephones have a standard 2 year warranty which can be extended up to 3, 5, or 7
years.

Software Support with Upgrade Service
The purchase of a new IPedge system includes one year of software support with upgrades. This annually
renewed program includes technical support, problem fixes, as well as minor and major software releases.
The Software Support and Upgrade program can be renewed on an annual basis.
