the control panel of each unit and is
customer property. It must be retained
by the unit’s maintenance personnel.
Thisbooklet describes proper installa-
tion,operation,andmaintenanceproce-
duresfor air cooled systems. Bycarefully
reviewingtheinformationwithinthis
manualand followingtheinstructions, the
riskof improper operation and/or compo-
nentdamage will be minimized.
Itisimportant that periodicmaintenance
be performed to help assure trouble free
operation.Amaintenance schedule is
providedat the end of thismanual.
Shouldequipment failure occur,contacta
qualifiedservice organizationwithquali-
fied, experienced HVAC technicians to
properly diagnose and repair this equip-
ment.
Note:
Do Not release refrigerant to the
atmosphere! If adding or removing
refrigerant is required, the service
technician must comply with all federal,
state, and local laws.
Model Number Description
All products are identified by a multiple-
charactermodelnumber that precisely
identifiesa particular type of unit. An ex-
planationof thealphanumericidentifica-
tion code is provided below. Its use will
enabletheowner/operator,installing con-
tractors,andserviceengineerstodefine
theoperation, specific components, and
otheroptionsforanyspecificunit.
Whenordering replacement parts or re-
questing service, be sure to refer to the
specificmodelnumber and serial number
printedonthe unit nameplate.
Unit Nomenclature
CAUTION
Equipment Damage From
Ultraviolet (UV) Lights!
The manufacturer does not recom-
mend field installation of ultraviolet
lights in its equipment for the in-
tended purpose of improving indoor
air quality.High intensity C-band
ultraviolet light is known to severely
damage polymer (plastic) materials
and poses a personal safety risk to
anyone exposed to the light without
proper personal protective equip-
ment. Polymer materials commonly
found in HVAC equipment that may be
susceptible include insulation on
electrical wiring, fan belts, thermal
insulation, various fasteners and
bushings. Degradation of these
materials can result in serious
damage to the equipment.
The manufacturer accepts no
responsibility for the performance or
operation of our equipment in which
ultraviolet devices were installed
outside of the manufacturer’s factory
or its approved suppliers.

Unit Nameplate
AMylar unit nameplate is located on the
unit’scornersupportnexttothefilterac-
cesspanel.Itincludes the unit model
number,serialnumber,electricalcharac-
teristics,refrigerant charge,aswell as
otherpertinent unit data.
Compressor Nameplate
Thenameplate for the compressors are
located on the side of the compressor.
Hazard Identification
Warnings are provided throughout
this manual to indicate to installing
contractors, operators, and service
personnel of potentially hazardous
situations which, if not avoided,
COULD result in death or serious in-
jury.
Cautions are provided throughout
this manual to indicate to installing
contractors, operators, and service
personnel of potentially hazardous
situations which,if not avoided,MAY
result in minor or moderate injury.
Unit Description
Beforeshipment,each unit is leak tested,
dehydrated,chargedwith refrigerant and
compressor oil, and run tested for proper
controloperation.
Thecondenser coilsarealuminum fin,
mechanically bonded to copper tubing.
Direct-drive,vertical discharge condenser
fansareprovidedwithbuilt-inthermal
overload protection.
TheReliaTel™ Control Module is a mi-
croelectroniccontrol system that isre-
ferredtoas “Refrigeration Module”
(RTRM). The acronym RTRM is used
extensivelythroughoutthis document
whenreferringtothe control system net-
work.
Themodulethrough Proportional/Integral
controlalgorithms perform specificunit
functionsthatgoverns unit operation inre-
sponse to; zone temperature, supply air
temperature,and/orhumidity conditions
depending on the application. The
stagesofcapacitycontrolfortheseunits
are achieved by starting and stopping
thecompressors.
TheRTRM is mounted in the control
panel and is factory wired to the respec-
tive internal components. The RTRM re-
ceivesandinterpretsinformationfrom
otherunitmodules, sensors, remote pan-
els,andcustomerbinarycontacts to sat-
isfythe applicable request for cooling.
Economizer Control Actuator
(Optional)
ReliaTel™ Control
The ECA monitors the mixed air tem-
perature,return airtemperature,minimum
positionsetpoint (local or remote),
power exhaust setpoint, CO2 setpoint,
CO2, and ambient dry bulb/enthalpy
sensororcomparative humidity (return air
humidityagainstambienthumidity)sen-
sors,if selected, to control dampers to an
accuracyof+/- 5% of stroke. The actuator
isspring returned to the closedposition
anytime that power is lostto the unit. It is
capable of delivering up to 25 inch
pounds (2.82 N-m) of torque and is
powered by 24 VAC.
RTCI -- ReliaTel™ Trane
Communication Interface
(Optional)
Thismodule is used when the application
callsforan ICSTM building management
typecontrol system. It allows thecontrol
andmonitoringofthesystem through an
ICS panel. The module can be ordered
from the factory or ordered as a kit to be
fieldinstalled. Follow theinstallationin-
structionthat ships witheachkitwhen field
installationisnecessary.
RLCI - ReliaTel™ LonTalk
Communication Interface
(Optional)
Thismodule is used when the application
callsforan ICSTM building management
typecontrol system that is LonTalk. It al-
lowsthecontrolandmonitoringofthe
system through an ICS panel. The mod-
ulecan be ordered from the factoryor or-
deredas a kit to be field installed. Follow
theinstallationinstructionthat shipswith
eachkit whenfieldinstallation isneces-
sary.
RTOM – ReliaTel™ Options
Module (Optional)
The RTOM monitors the supply fan
proving, clogged filter, supply air tem-
perature,exhaust fan setpoint, supply air
tempering,Frostat™ and smoke detec-
tor. Refer to system input devices and
functionsfor operation.

System Input Devices &
Functions
The RTRM must have a zone sensor or
thermostatinput in order to operate the
unit.The flexibility of having several
mode capabilities depends upon the
type of zone sensor or thermostat se-
lectedtointerface with the RTRM.
Thedescriptionsof the following basic In-
put Devices used within the RTRM net-
workaretoacquaint the operator with
theirfunction as theyinterfacewith the
variousmodules.Refer to the unit’s elec-
tricalschematic for thespecificmodule
connections.
Thefollowingcontrolsareavailable from
thefactory forfieldinstallation.
Supply Fan Failure Input (Optional)
TheFanFailure Switch can be connected
tosense indoor fan operation:
FFS(FanFailure Switch) Ifairflow
through the unit is not proven by the dif-
ferentialpressureswitchconnected to the
RTOM (factory set point 0.07 “ w.c.
(17.4Pa)) within 40 seconds nominally,
theRTRMwillshutoffallmechanicalop-
erations,lock the system out, send a di-
agnostic to ICS, and the SERVICE out-
putwillflash.Thesystemwillremain
lockedout until a resetisinitiatedeither
manuallyorthroughICS.
Clogged Filter Switch (Optional)
Theunitmountedcloggedfilterswitch
monitorsthepressure differential across
thereturn air filters. Itismountedin the fil-
tersectionandisconnectedtothe
RTOM. A diagnostic SERVICE signal is
sent to the remote panel if the pressure
differentialacrossthe filters is at least0.5"
w.c.(124.5Pa).The contacts will auto-
maticallyopen when the pressure differ-
entialacrossthefiltersdecreasestoap-
proximately 0.4" w.c.(99.6 Pa). The
cloggedfilter output is energized when
the supply fan is operating and the
cloggedfilter switch has been closed for
atleast2 minutes. The system will con-
tinueto operate regardless of the status
ofthe filter switch.
Compressor Disable (CPR1/2)
Thisinputincorporates the low pressure
control(LPC) ofeachrefrigeration circuit
and can be activated by opening a field
suppliedcontact installed on the LTB.
Ifthis circuit is open before thecompres-
sor is started, the compressor will not be
allowedtooperate.Anytime this circuit is
openedfor1 continuous second during
compressor operation, the compressor
forthat circuit isimmediatelyturned“Off”.
The compressor will not be allowed to
restartforaminimum of 3 minutes should
thecontacts close.
Iffourconsecutive open conditions occur
duringthefirstthree minutes of operation,
thecompressorforthat circuit will be
lockedout,a diagnostic communicated to
theremotepanel (if installed), and a
manualresetwillberequiredtorestart
thecompressor.
Low Pressure Control
ReliaTel Control
When the LPC is opened for 1 continu-
oussecond,thecompressorfor that cir-
cuitisturnedoffimmediately. The com-
pressor will not be allowed to restart for a
minimumof3minutes.
Iffourconsecutive open conditions occur
duringthefirstthree minutes of operation,
the compressor will be locked out, a di-
agnostic communicated to ICSTM if appli-
cable,andamanualresetwill be required
torestartthecompressor.
High Pressure Control
ReliaTel Control
Thehighpressurecontrolsare wired in
series between the compressor outputs
on the RTRM and the compressor
contactorcoils. If thehighpressure control
switchopens, the RTRM senses a lack
ofcurrent whilecallingfor coolingand
locksthecompressorout.
Ondual circuit units,ifthe highpressure
controlopens, the compressor on the af-
fectedcircuit is locked out.Amanualreset
forthe affectedcircuitis required.
Lead/Lag Control (Dual Circuit Only)
ReliaTel Control
Lead/Lagisaselectableinput located on
theRTRM.TheRTRMis configured from
thefactory with theLead/Lagcontrol
disabled.ToactivatetheLead/Lag
function,simply cutthewireconnected to
J3-8at the RTRM. When it is activated,
eachtimethedesignatedleadcompres-
sorisshut off due to the load being
satisfied,the lead compressororrefrigera-
tioncircuit switches. WhentheRTRM is
poweredup,i.e.afterapower failure, the
controlwilldefaultto thenumberonecircuit
compressor.

Zone Sensor Module (ZSM)
(BAYSENS006B)
Thiselectronicsensorfeatures three sys-
tem switch settings (Heat, Cool, and
Off) and two fan settings (On and Auto).
Itis a manual changeovercontrolwith
single setpoint. (Cooling Setpoint Only)
Zone Sensor Module (ZSM)
(BAYSENS008B)
Thiselectronicsensor features four sys-
tem switch settings (Heat, Cool, Auto,
andOff) and two fan settings (On and
Auto).Itisamanualorautochangeover
controlwithdual setpoint capability. It can
be used with a remote zone temperature
sensor BAYSENS017B.
Zone Sensor (BAYSENS010B)
Thiselectronicsensor features four sys-
tem switch settings (Heat, Cool, Auto,
andOff) and two fan settings (On and
Auto) with four system status LED’s. It is
amanual or autochangeovercontrolwith
dual setpoint capability. It can be used
witha remote zone temperature sensor
BAYSENS017B.
Programmable Zone Sensor -
BAYSENS019B
This 7 day programmable sensor fea-
tures 2, 3 or 4 periods for Occupied or
Unoccupied programming per day. If the
power is interrupted, the program is re-
tained in permanent memory. If power is
off for an extended period of time, only
the clock and day may have to be reset.
The Zone Sensor allows selection of 2, 3
or 4 system modes (Heat, Cool, Auto,
and Off), two fan modes (On and Auto).
Ithasdualtemperatureselection with
programmablestart time capability.
Theoccupied cooling set point ranges
between 45 F (7.2 C)and 98 F (35.6 C)
Fahrenheit.Theheatingset point ranges
between 43 F (6.1 C) and 96 F ( 35.6
C) degrees.
A liquid crystal display (LCD) displays
zonetemperature, temperature set
points, day of the week, time, and opera-
tional mode symbols.
The Option Menu is used to enable or
disableapplicablefunctions,i.e.;Morning
Warm-up,Economizerminimum position
overrideduringunoccupied status, Fahr-
enheit or Centigrade, Supply air temper-
ing, Remote zone temperature sensor,
12/24hour time display, Smart fan, and
Computed recovery.
Duringanoccupiedperiod,anauxiliary
relay rated for 1.25 amps @ 30 volts
AC with one set of single pole double
throwcontacts is activated.
Status Inputs (4 Wires Optional)
The ZSM can be wired to receive four (4)
operatingstatussignalsfromtheRTRM
(HEAT, COOL, SYSTEM “ON”, SER-
VICE). Four (4) wires from the RTRM
shouldbe connected to the appropriate
terminals (7, 8, 9 & 10) on the ZSM.
Remote Zone Sensor
(BAYSENS013C)
Thiselectronicsensor features remote
zonesensing and timed override with
overridecancellation.It is used with a
TraneIntegratedComfortTM buildingman-
agement system.
Remote Zone Sensor
(BAYSENS014C)
Thiselectronic sensor featuressingle
setpoint capability and timed override
withoverridecancellation. It is usedwitha
TraneIntegratedComfortTM buildingman-
agement system.
Remote Zone Sensor
(BAYSENS016A)
This bullet type temperature sensor can
be used for; outside air (ambient) sens-
ing,returnair temperature sensing, sup-
ply air temperature sensing, remote tem-
peraturesensing (uncovered. Wiring pro-
ceduresvary according totheparticular
application and equipment involved. Re-
fertotheunit’swiringdiagramsforproper
connections.
Remote Zone Sensor
(BAYSENS017B)
Thiselectronicsensorcanbeusedwith
BAYSENS006B, 008B, 010B, 019B
Remote Panels. When this sensor is
wired to a BAYSENS019B Remote
Panel, wiring must be 18 AWG (.75mm2
) Shielded Twisted Pair (Belden 8760 or
equivalent). Refer to the specific Remote
Panelfor wiring details.

Single Stage - 1 Heat/1 Cool
BAYSTAT037A
Multi Stage - 2 Heat/2 Cool - Can be
Used for Economizer Operation

Remote sensor for BAYSTAT036A,
037A.
Phase Monitor (Optional)
ReliaTel Control Only
This sensor monitors voltage between
the 3 conductors of the 3 phase power
supply. Two LED lights are provided.
Thegreenlight indicates that abalanced
3 phase supply circuit is properly con-
nected.The red lightindicatesthatunit
operation has been prevented. There
aretwoconditionsthatwillpreventunit
operation.Thepower supply circuit is not
balanced with the proper phase se-
quence of L1,L2,L3 for the 3 conductors
ofa3phase circuit. The line to line volt-
age is not between 180 volts and 633
volts.

Unit Inspection
As soon as the unit arrives at the job site
[] Verify that the nameplate data
matchesthedataonthesalesorder
andbill oflading(including electrical
data).
[ ] Verify that the power supply complies
withtheunit nameplate specifications.
[]Visually inspect the exterior of the unit,
includingtheroof,for signs of shipping
damage.
Ifthe job site inspection ofthe unit re-
vealsdamageormaterialshortages,filea
claimwith thecarrierimmediately.
Specify the type and extent of the dam-
age on the “bill of lading” before signing.
[]Visuallyinspecttheinternalcompo-
nents for shipping damage as soon as
possible after delivery and before it is
stored. Do notwalk on the sheet metal
base pans.
[] If concealed damage is discovered,
notifythe carrier’s terminal ofdamage
immediately by phone and by mail.
Concealed damage must be reported
within15 days.
Requestanimmediatejointinspection
ofthe damage by the carrier andthe
consignee. Do not remove damaged
materialfrom thereceivinglocation.
Take photos of the damage, if pos-
sible. The owner must provide rea-
sonable evidence that the damage
didnotoccurafterdelivery.
[ ] Notify the appropriate sales represen-
tativebeforeinstallingorrepairinga
damagedunit.
Storage
Takeprecautions to prevent condensate
fromforming insidetheunit’s electrical
compartmentsandmotorsif:
a.theunitisstored before it is installed;
or,
b.the unit is set on the roof curb, and
temporary heat is provided in the
building.Isolate all side panel service
entrances and base pan openings
(e.g., conduit holes, S/A and R/A
openings, and flue openings) from the
ambientairuntil the unit is ready for
start-up.
Note:
Do not use the unit’s heater for
temporary heat without first completing
the start-up procedure detailed under
“Heating Start Up”.
Themanufacturer will not assumeanyre-
sponsibility for equipment damage re-
sultingfrom condensateaccumulationon
theunit’selectricaland/ormechanicalcom-
ponents.
Unit Clearances
Figure1illustrates the minimum operating
andservice clearances foreitherasingle
ormultiple unitinstallation.These clear-
ancesarethe minimum distances neces-
saryto assure adequate serviceability,
catalogedunitcapacity,andpeakoperat-
ingefficiency.
Providinglessthan the recommended
clearancesmay resultincondensercoil
starvation,“short-circuiting” ofexhaust
andeconomizerairflows,or recirculation
ofhotcondenser air.

Horizontal Units
If the unit is installed at ground level, elevate it above the snow line. Provide con-
cretefootingsateachsupportlocationwitha“fullperimeter”supportstructureora
slab foundation for support. Refer to Table 1 for the unit’s operating and point
loadingweightswhen constructing afootingfoundation.
Ifanchoringisrequired,anchortheunittotheslabusingholddownboltsorisola-
tors.Isolatorsshouldbeinstalledtominimizethetransmissionofvibrationsinto
thebuilding.
For rooftop applications, ensure the roof is strong enough to support the com-
binedunit and support structural weight. Refer to Table1 for the unit operating
weights.Ifanchoringisrequired,anchortheunittotheroof with hold-down bolts
orisolators.
Checkwitharoofingcontractorforproperwaterproofingprocedures.

Ductwork
Figure4-1 illustrates the supply and re-
turnairopenings as viewed from the rear
ofthe unit.
Elbowswithturning vanes or splitters are
recommendedtominimize air noise due
toturbulenceandtoreducestatic pres-
sure.
Whenattachingthe ductwork totheunit,
providea water tight flexible connector at
the unit to prevent operating sounds
fromtransmitting throughtheductwork.
Alloutdoor ductwork between the unit
andthestructureshouldbe weather
proofedafterinstallationiscompleted.
Roof Curb
Downflow
Theroofcurbsfortheseunitsconsists of
a“full perimeter” enclosure to support the
unit.
Beforeinstallingany roof curb, verify;
1.That it is thecorrectcurbfor the unit,
2.Thatitincludes the necessary gaskets
andhardware,
3.Thatthepurposed installation location
providestherequiredclearancefor
proper operation.
4.Insurethatthecurbislevelandsquare.
The top surface of the curb must be
truetoassure an adequate curb-to-unit
seal.
Step-by-step curb assembly and instal-
lationinstructionsshipwith eachacces-
soryroofcurb kit. Follow theinstructions
carefullyto assure proper fit-up when the
unitissetintoplace.
Note:
To assure proper condensate flow during
operation, the unit (and curb) must be
level.
Iftheunitiselevated,afieldconstructed
catwalkaround the unitisstronglyrecom-
mended to provide easy access for unit
maintenanceand service.
Recommendationsforinstallingthe Sup-
plyAirandReturnAirductworkjoining
theroofcurb are included in the curbin-
structionbooklet. Curb ductwork must be
fabricatedandinstalledby the installing
contractorbeforetheunit is set into place.
Note:
For sound consideration, cut only the
holes in the roof deck for the ductwork
penetrations. Do not cut out the entire
roof deck within the curb perimeter.
If a Curb Accessory Kit is not used:
a.Theductwork can be attached
directly to the factory-provided
flangesaroundtheunit’s supply
andreturnairopenings.Be sure to
useflexibleductconnectionsat
theunit.
b. For “built-up” curbs supplied by
others,gasketsmust be installed
aroundthecurbperimeterflange
andthesupplyand return air
openingflanges.

Rigging
ARiggingillustrationandCenter-of-
Gravitydimensional data table is shown
inFigure 3. Refer to thetypical unit oper-
ating weights table before proceeding.
1. The wooden top is secured to the unit
by a plastic strap. The plastic strap is
securedtotheright front corner post of
theunit with one screw. Remove this
screw to release the strap. Remove
the wooden top and plastic strap. Re-
placethe screw in therightfrontcorner
post.
2. Remove protective covering from
aroundtheunit.

LIFTING ARRANGEMENTS MAY CAUSE
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE OR SERIOUS

3.Rig the unit as shown in Figure 3. At-
tachadequatestrength lifting slings to
allfour lifting brackets intheunitbase
rail.Donot use cables, chains,or
slings except as shown.
4.Installa lifting bar, asshowninFigure
3,toprotecttheunit and to facilitate a
uniformlift.The minimum distance be-
tweenthe lifting hook and the top of
the unit should be 7 feet (21m).
5.Test-lift the unit to ensure itis properly
riggedandbalanced,makeany nec-
essaryriggingadjustments.
6.Lift the unit enough to allow there-
movalof two Fork Lift brackets and
hardware.Remove the two Fork Lift
brackets,two metal runners andthree
wooden boards as shown.
7.Downflowunits; align the base rail of
theunit with the curbrailwhilelowering
theunitontothecurb.Makesurethat
thegasket on the curb is not damaged
whilepositioningthe unit.

Horizontal Discharge Conversion

If a unit is to be converted to Horizontal discharge, the follow-
ing conversion must be performed:
1. Remove the return and supply duct covers.
2. Apply gasket to the supply duct cover as shown.
3. Position duct covers as shown below. Rotate supply duct
cover 90 degrees to allow it to be slid into supply opening.
Note: If unit is equipped with Discharge Air Sensing
option refer to the following figure for proper tube
positioning based on unit tonnage.
4. Slide duct covers into duct openings until endward edge of
theductcover engages with the 2 retaining clips on the duct
flanges.Secure the outward edge of the eachduct cover
with2screws.
Note:
Certain unit/electric heater combinations require a limit switch
change out for horizontal airflow applications. Refer to the
following instructions to determine if this process is required
for the unit undergoing installation.
5. Aftercompletinginstallation of the duct covers for horizontal
discharge,proceedtoTCO-A instructions.

If a unit is to be converted to Horizontal discharge, the follow-
ing conversion must be performed:
1. Remove the return and supply duct covers.
2. Apply gasket to the return duct cover as shown below.
3. Position duct covers as shown below. The supply duct cover
isinstalled( insulation side down ) over the downflow return
opening by engaging one side of the panel under a retaining
angleandsecuringtheothersidewith3screws.
4. Slide return duct cover ( insulation side up ) into supply
openings until endward edge of the duct cover engages with
the2retainingclipsontheductflanges.Securetheoutward
edge of the each duct cover with 2 screws.
Note:
Certain unit/electric heater combinations require a limit switch
change out for horizontal airflow applications. Refer to the
following instructions to determine if this process is required
for the unit undergoing installation.

TCO-A Instructions:
Ifthe unit being installed is listedin the following table and is equipped with the corre-
spondingmodelnumberof factory installed electric heater package in the table, the
limitcontrol TCO-A must be replaced withthe extra limit control shipped inthe heater
compartment. Replace TCO-A following the instructions in steps 1through 4 below.
Iftheunitbeinginstalleddoesnothaveainstalledelectricheaterpackageoris
equippedwith a installed electric heater model thatdoesnot correspond to any in this
table, skip steps1 through 4 and go on to next step in the installation process.

1. Removetheheatersectionaccess panel and open the electric heater deadfront
panel.
2. TCO-Aisthelimitcontrollocatedinthecentral part of the heater mounting plate
and that is located on the bottom of the two heater element assemblies. To re-
placethis device, first remove the two wires connected tothe terminals. Next, re-
movethe two screws which secure itto the heater element mounting plate. Once
TCO-A has been removed form the heater element mounting plate, discard this
device.
3. ObtainthereplacementTCO-A which is secured by awire tie near the electric
heaterterminalblockintheheater compartment . Attach it to the heater element
mounting plate with the two screws that were removed in step 8 above. Connect
the two wires that were un-hooked in step 8 to the terminals on the new TCO-A.
Refertotheheaterpackagewiring diagram to assure that the wiring is connected
properly.
4.Closetheelectric heater dead front panel and replace heat section access panel.
