theportscorrectly.
GeneralUse
• Carefullyunpack thecontentsof the StoreJet 2.5 package.
• During operation,avoidexposingyour StoreJet 2.5 toextremetemperatures above55 ,or
below5 .
• Donot drop your StoreJet 2.5.
• Donot allowyour StoreJet 2.5 tobecomedamporwetfromwater oranyother liquids.
• Donot use adamp/wet clothtowipe or clean the exterior case.
• Donot use or storeyour StoreJet 2.5 inanyofthe listed environments:
o Direct sunlight
o Next toanair conditioner, electricheaterorotherheat sources
o Inaclosed carthatisindirectsunlight
Backing Up Data
• Transcend does NOTtake anyresponsibilityfordataloss,ordamageduring operation.
Ifyou decidetostoredataonyour StoreJet 2.5 westronglyadvise that you regularlybackup
the datatoacomputer,or otherstoragemedium.
• ToensureHigh-SpeedUSB 2.0datatransferrateswhen using your StoreJet 2.5 witha
computer, please checkthatthe computerhas the relevantUSB drivers.Ifyou areunsure
abouthowtocheckthis,please consultthecomputerormotherboardUsersManualforUSB
driver information.
Transporting
• Donotpackyour StoreJet 2.5 intoluggagewithouttheproperpaddedsupport.Otheritems
inthe luggagemaydamageyour StoreJet 2.5 if it does nothavethe proper protection.
• Avoidsqueezingyour StoreJet 2.5 toprevent damagetothe internalHDD.
• Avoidplacingobjectsontoyour StoreJet 2.5 toprevent damagingit.
Power
• The StoreJet 2.5 ispowered directlyviaacomputerUSB port; however, thepowersupplied
bythe USBport on someoldercomputersisbelow the required 5VDC power. Inthisinstance,
please connectthe otherUSB A-Type connectorfromthe provided USB YcabletoaUSB port
on thecomputer,thiswill provide the additionalpower necessarytorunthedrive.
• Please usetheMiniUSB toUSBA-Type cablethat camewiththe StoreJet 2.5 toconnectit

toacomputer,andalwaysensurethatthe cableyou areusingisingoodcondition. NEVER
use acablethat isfrayed ordamaged.

tripped over orsteppedon.

Ifyou purchaseda StoreJet 2.5 thatdoesnothaveaHardDiskDrivealreadyinstalled,please readthis
section,otherwise you can skiptothe “DriverInstallation”section.
1. Open the StoreJet 2.5 byremovingthe twoscrewsfrom either side of thetop cover,as indicated in
the diagram.

2. Removethe coverrevealingacontrolboardadapter; thisconvertsthe IDE/SATAinterface connector
ofthe harddrivetoaMiniUSB 2.0interface.Slide outthecontrolboard.

3. Carefullyline up and plug inthe IDE/SATAconnectoron the controlboardtothe harddrive.Do NOT
forcethe IDE/SATAconnectorintotheharddriveand do NOT insert the connectoratan angle,
otherwise you maydamageit.

4. CarefullyreinserttheIDE/SATAadapter anditsconnected 2.5”harddriveintothe StoreJet 2.5 and
reattach the screwstothetopcover.

Nodriversarerequired.These Windows®OperatingSystemshavebuilt-indriverstosupportthe
StoreJet 2.5.Plugyour StoreJet intoan availableUSB portandWindowswill install the necessary
files.Anew LocalDisk drivewithanewlyassigned driveletterrepresentingthe StoreJet 2.5 will
appear inthe MyComputer window.
DriverInstallation forMac OS9.0,or Later
Nodriversarerequired.Plugyour StoreJet 2.5 intoan availableUSBportand yourcomputerwill
automaticallydetect it.

Connecting toaComputer
Ifyou wanttousethe StoreJet 2.5 asanExternalHardDiskDrivetoupload/download datato,orfrom
your computeryou will need toconnect it toaUSBportonthecomputerusingthe provided .

1. Plugthe small end oftheUSB Ycableintothe MiniUSB porton the StoreJet 2.5.
2. Plugthe largeend ofthecableintoan availableUSB porton your desktop, or notebookcomputer.
Onsomeolder computers,thepowersupplied bytheUSB port isbelow therequired5VDCpower. In
thisinstance,pleaseconnecttheotherUSBA-Type connectorfromtheprovided USB Ycableto
anotherUSB port onthecomputer.Thiswill provide theadditionalpowernecessarytorunthedrive.

3. Whenthe StoreJet 2.5 issuccessfullyconnectedtoacomputerthe StoreJet sPowerLED will light
up,anew LocalDisk drivewithanewlyassigneddriveletterwillappearinthe MyComputer window
and aHardware icon will appearontheWindowsSystemTray.The StoreJet 2.5sinternal hard
drivecomes formattedfor FAT32.

4. Atthisstagethe StoreJet 2.5 isa Peripheral device and ispowered by the computersUSB port.
You canusethe StoreJet 2.5 asanexternalharddriveinconjunction withyourcomputerto
upload/download data.You candownload datatothe StoreJet 2.5 simplybydragging anddropping
files, orfoldersontothe Local Disk driveletterthatrepresentsthe StoreJet 2.5.
5. Ifyou havesetup the bundled Transcend StoreJet elite you can press the StoreJet 2.5s
OneTouch “Backup Button”oncetoBackupyour data.

6. Please be advised,ifyou areusingthe StoreJet 2.5 withanotebookcomputer,itisbettertorun the
notebookusingAC power.Thereasonforthisisthatthenotebooksbatterywill run outofpowermore
quicklybecause the StoreJet 2.5 needstodrawpower from the USB port.

Disconnecting fromaComputer
NEVER disconnecttheStoreJet fromaComputerwhenitsLEDisflashing.

1. Select the Hardware icon on the systemtray.
2. The SafelyRemoveHardware pop-upwindowwill appear. Select it tocontinue.

Drag anddrop theDiskiconthatrepresentsyour StoreJet 2.5 intothetrashcan.Thenunplug your
StoreJet 2.5 fromthe USB port.
RemovetheStoreJet 2.5inLinux Kernel2.4,or Later
Execute umount/mnt/Storejet toun-mountthe device.Then unplug your StoreJet 2.5 fromtheUSB
port.

WARNING!Formattingthedisk willeraseall of thedataon yourStoreJet 25.
You musthaveAdministratorRightstoformatinWindows2000,XP,orVista.
Windows®2000/XP
1. Download theStoreJetFormatUtilityfromTranscendsonline Download Centerat
http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/index.asp (thesoftwarecan belocated by
selecting “StorageDevices -> StoreJetDrives -> anyStoreJet product->anyStoreJetmodel)
2. Whenthe download iscomplete,extractthe downloaded ZIPfiletoyourcomputersharddrive
(nottheStoreJet 25) andruntheStoreJetFormatter.exeapplication.
3. Plugthe StoreJet25 intoan availableUSB port onaWindows®2000/XPcomputer.
4.Unplug allotherUSB storagedevices fromyourcomputer.Thisistopreventaccidentalformat
ofadifferentUSB drive.
5. Inthe StoreJetFormatUtiilitywindow, clickthe “Refresh”button.
6. Theprogramwillautomaticallydetectthe StoreJet25 drive.
7. Press “Start”.

8. Aconfirmationwindowwill appear. Press OKtobeginformattingthe drive.
9. Theformatprocessmaytakeafewminutes.When complete,an “O.K.”messagewill appearin
the bottomrighthand corner ofthe window.
10. Clickthe “Close”button tofinish andexit.

1. Download theStoreJetFormatUtilityfromTranscendsonline Download Centerat
http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/index.asp (thesoftwarecan belocated by
selecting “StorageDevices -> StoreJetDrives -> anyStoreJet product->anyStoreJetmodel)
2. Whenthe download iscomplete,extractthe downloaded ZIPfiletoyourcomputersharddrive
(nottheStoreJet 25).
3. Plugthe StoreJet25 intoan availableUSB port onyourWindowsVista computer.
4.Unplug allotherUSB storagedevices fromyourcomputer. Thisistopreventaccidental
formatof adifferent USBdrive.
5. Right-click “StoreJetFormatter.exe”andselect “Run as Administrator.”

6. TheUserAccountControlwindowwill appear. Select “Allow”tocontinue.
7. Inthe StoreJetFormatUtiilitywindow, clickthe “Refresh”button.
8. Theprogramwillautomaticallydetectthe StoreJet25 drive.

10. Aconfirmationwindowwill appear. Press OKtobeginformattingthe drive.

Troubleshooting
Ifaproblemoccurswithyour StoreJet 2.5,please firstchecktheinformation listedbelowbeforetaking
your StoreJet 2.5 forrepair. Ifyouareunabletosolveaproblemfromthefollowinghints, pleaseconsult
your dealer,service center,orlocal Transcend branch office.Wealso haveFAQand Supportservices on
our websites.
Software CD cannot auto-runin Windows®
Gotothe Device Manager inthe ControlPanel andenablethe Auto-Insert function ofthe CD-ROM
drive.Alternatively, you can manuallyrun the “StoreJet.EXE”fileonthedriver CD.
Operating system cannot detect the StoreJet 2.5
Check thefollowing:
1. Isyour StoreJet 2.5 properlyconnected totheUSB port?Ifnot,unplugitand plug itinagain.Ifit is
properlyconnected,tryusinganotheravailableUSB port.
2. Areyou usingthe USBcablethatcameinthe StoreJet 2.5 pack? Ifnot,tryusingtheTranscend
USB cabletoconnectthe StoreJet tothecomputer.
3. The StoreJet 2.5 ispowered directlyviaacomputerUSB port; however,thepowersuppliedbythe
USB porton someoldercomputersisbelowtherequired5VDCpower.Inthisinstance,please
connecttheotherUSB A-Type connectorfromtheUSB YcabletoaUSB portonthecomputer.This
will provide the additionalpower necessarytorunthedrive.
4. Isyour StoreJet 2.5 connectedtotheMac™keyboard?Ifyes,unplug it and plugit intoanavailable
USB porton your Mac™Desktop.
5. Isthe USB portenabled? Ifnot,refertothe usersmanualofyourcomputer(ormotherboard)to
enableit.
Mycomputer does not recognize the StoreJet 2.5
1. AsingleUSB portmaynotprovide enoughpowerforthe StoreJet 2.5 tofunction.Makesureyou
plug both largeendsof the USB cabledirectlyintoyour computersUSB ports.
2. AvoidusingaUSB HUB toconnectthe StoreJet 2.5.
Troubleshooting

Cannot Power ON
Check thefollowing:
1. Check that your StoreJet 2.5 isproperlyconnected tothe USB porton thecomputer.
2. Check thatthe USB port isworking properly. If not,tryusinganalternativeUSB port.
Cannot back up myMac
The StoreJet 2.5sinternalharddrivecomesformatted forFAT32.If you wanttobackup aMac
computer you will need toformatthe driveforHFS+ usingthe Mac Disk Utility.
Cannot detect the StoreJet 2.5 in Linux
The StoreJet™2.5sinternal harddrivecomes formatted forFAT32.LinuxCANNOT support the NTFS file
system,please reformatthe harddrivetothe FATfilesystem.
