Whenusingrotatingheadcutting equipment,basicsafetyprecautionsshould alwaysbe
followedtoreducetherisk ofpersonalinjury.
Operatethistool onlyinaccordance withspecificoperating instructions.
Do not override the deadman switch on the power unit. Locking down, ob-
structing, or in any way defeating the deadman switch on the power drive unit
may result in serious injury.
DRESS CONSIDERATIONS
Usestandardsafetyequipment. Hardhats, safetyshoes, safetyharnesses,protective
clothes,andothersafetydevices shouldalwaysbe usedwhen appropriate.
Usesafetyglasses. Do notoperatecutting toolswithouteye protection.
Dressproperly. Donotwear looseclothingor jewelry. They canbecaught inrotating
andmovingparts. Avoidslipperyfloors orwearnonskid footwear. Ifyouhave longhair,
wearprotectivehair coveringtocontain it.
WORKAREA
Keepthework areaclean. Clutteredwork areas andbenches invite injuries.
Considerthework area environment. Keepthearea well lit. Keepelectricalcords,
cables,rags,rigging straps, andetc.clear of rotatingequipment. Donot use power-
cuttingtoolsin thepresenceof flammable liquidsand gasses.
Keepvisitorsaway. Donot let visitorsoruntrained personnelator near operatingtools.
Enforceeyeprotectionrequirementsfor allobservers.
Do not over reach. Keep proper footing at all times.
Stayalert. Watch whatyouare doing. Usecommonsense. Do not operatetoolswhen
youaretired.

TOOLCARE
Maintain tools with care. Keep tools in good operating condition. Sharp tool bits
performbetterandsaferthan dulltoolbits. Well maintainedtools functionproperly
whenneeded.
Checkfordamaged parts. If atoolhas malfunctioned, beendroppedor hit,itmustbe
checkedfordamage. Run no-load testsandfeed functionchecks. Doacomplete
visualinspection.
Electricmotors. Useonly withproperAC voltagepowersources andobserveall nor-
malelectricshockhazardprocedures.
Donotabuse powerandcontrol cords. Pulling orrunning over cordsandcables can
resultinelectrical shockhazards andmalfunctions. Keepcontrol andpowercords out
ofall cuttingfluidsandwater.
Hydraulicdrives. Observeproper proceduresfor electricallydrivenpower sources.
Avoiddamageto hydrauliclines. Keepquick-disconnects clean. Grit contamination
causesmalfunctions.
Airtools. Checkthe exhaustmuffler. Brokenordamaged mufflerscan restrictairflow
orcauseexcessive noise. Useairmotors only withafiltered, lubricatedandregulated
airsupply. Dirtyair,low-pressureair oroverpressure airwillcause malfunctions,
includingdelayed starting.
AREAEQUIPMENT
Securework. Wheneverpossible use clamps,vises,chains andstrapsto secure pipe.
Makesurethe tool issecured;it is safertohave both handsfreeto operate thetool.
TOOLUSE
Usetheright tool andtoolbit for thejob. Donot use atool,which is incorrectforthe job
youaredoing.
Keepthetool bits fullyengagedin the toolbitholders. Loose bits areasafety hazard.
Disconnectthepower supplyduring setupandmaintenance. Use all'Stop'or 'Shutoff'
featuresavailable whenchangingor adjustingtool bits,maintainingthetool,or whenthe
toolisnot in use.

Removeadjustingkeys andwrenchesbefore applyingpower totheequipment. De-
velopahabit ofcheckingthe toolbeforeturning it ontomake surethatall keysand
wrencheshave beenremoved.
Donotforce tools. Toolsandtool bitsfunctionbetter andsaferwhen usedatthefeed
andspeedrate forwhichthey weredesigned.
Donotreach into rotatingequipment. Donot reachintothe rotating headstockto clear
chips,to make adjustments,or to checksurfacefinish. Amachinedesigned to cutsteel
willnotstop forahand or anarm.
Handlechipswith care. Chipshavevery sharp edgesandare hot. Donottry topull
chipsapart withyour hands;theyareverytough.
Avoidunintentional starts. Donotcarry orhandle toolswithyourhandon theoperating
switchesorlevers. Do notlaythe tooldownin amannerthat willstartthe drive. Donot
allowthetooltoflip aroundormove whenadjustingor changingtool bits.
Storeidletools properly. Disconnect toolsfromthe power sourceandstore in asafe
place. Removetoolbits forsafehandling of thetool.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
TheModelPFM614 is aportableODmount machine toolforbevelingand facing 6”
through14”pipe. The toolisconfigured withadual hydraulicdrivemotor poweringa
setofhelical gearsattached tothemain spindle. Anauto-feedhydraulic cylinderwith
rapidandslowfeedcontrol providesaccuratecuttingheadcontrol. One hydraulically
actuatedODclamping headassembly with mountingpads coversthewhole rangeof
thetool.

adjustthe landthickness.Retightenthetrackingwheelshoulder bolt,and reset
andtightentheI.D.brush.

‘A’minusthe ‘J’bevelradius,minusthe landextension.Adjustthe axialheight
andretighten allofthehexscrews.
3. Adjustthetrackingwheelifneeded. Retightenthe trackingwheelshoulderbolt,
andtheI.D.brush.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Measure the OD of thepipetobe machined.
2. Selecttherightset of clamp padstoclampthe pipe. Reference the 'Clamping
Pads' section.
3. Installtheclamppadstothe IDof themachine.
4. Connectthethree(3)hydraulichoses tothePFM.
5. Connectpowertothe HPU.
6. BringtheHPUpendant closetothe PFMcontrols.
7. Make sure theDriveHandle is intheOFF position,usethe jog buttontorotate
theheadand adjustthe Tool Holdersaccordingto thepreviousTool Holder
adjustmentinstructions.
8. Turnon thedrive andcount thehead rotationforafullminute.

NOTE:
9. Rememberthisnumberandmultiplyit bythefeedrate.
Formula: Feedrateper revolutionxrotation per minute= linear travelper
minute.
Example: 0.006”perrevolution x 152RPM= 0.912” oflineartravel ofthehead.
10. Set the feed rate of the PFM by using a magnetic base dial indicator attached to
theframeof thePFM.
11. Indicate theend ofthemain spindle.
12. Bringthe headbackto its maximumretractedposition.
13. Adjust the dial indicator to ‘0’.
14. Unlock thefeedrate knobwiththe key. (Located onthetop ofthecontrol mani-
fold).
15. Shiftthefeedleverto forwardandtime forone fullminute.
16. Afterone minute,stopthefeed, and read thedialindicator and see iftheread-
ingitsequal to 0.912”(+/-0.005”).
17. Ifthereading isto highorlow,readjustthe knobaccordinglyand repeatuntil the
desired feed rate is obtained.
18. Whenall setupsaredoneaccording to theTool Holdersetup instructions,and
thepreviousinstructions, insertthe PFMonto thepipe.
19. Make sure the head is moved back before inserting the PFM on to the pipe.
20. Bringthe toolholderstracking wheelsabout1” fromtheend of thepipe.
21. Clampthe PFMonthe pipebyshifting the clampingleverto clamp.
22. ThePFM isclampedon the pipewhenthe pressure indicatorreachesits maxi-
mumofapproximately 2000PSI(with thecorrectclamp pads).
Do not Rapid Feed the Head into the pipe while the Head is rotating. This will
damage the PFM and voids the manufacturer's warranty.

NOTE:
23. Advancethe headbyjogginggentlythe fastfeed forwardlever,untiltheTool
Holderstrackingwheels are engagedinthe pipe. Beware nottobump the end
ofthepipe withtheinserts.
24. Turnonpower totheheadbyshiftingthedriveleverto ‘On’.
25. Turnonthe feedand monitorthe cuttingoperation.
26. Whenthe endofthe pipe isprepped,put the feedtostop,let the headrotate
oneturnonly, andreverse thefeedimmediatelyforabout 1/2”.
27. Stopthe rotationof thedrive.
28. Whenthehead doesnot rotateanymore,reverse thefeeduntil thehead isallthe
wayback.
29. Unclampthe pipeandremove thePFMfrom the pipe.
SOFT STARTADJUSTMENT
1. LoosentheLockNut ontheSoft StartFlowControlValve.
2. TurnFlow ControlAdjustmentScrewclockwiseuntilthevalveiscompletely
closed.
The head should start rotating at half of the maximum RPM. Improper Soft
StartAdjustment will Void the Manufacturers Warranty.
3. ScrewtheAdjustmentScrewcounter clockwisealittle atatime. Turn onDrive
andtestthe SoftStart. The softstartwhencorrectly set willtakeaminimumof 1
1/2secondsto reachfull RPMofthe machine.
4. Oncetheproperadjustment hasbeenachieved locktheLock Nutintoplace on
theFlow ControlValve.
