Installation
Notes:
1. The diagram above shows a U224-1R4-R installation. Installation for
the U224-4R4-R will be the same, except that all 4 USB ports are
located on the remote unit, and the external power supply connects to
the remote unit.
2. Test to make sure that the entire installation works properly before
pulling cables through ceilings/walls.
3. Local USB ports will provide a USB 2.0 signal, whereas remote USB
ports will provide only a USB 1.1 signal.

Installation
Connect the local unit to a computer using the built-in USB cable.
 • U224-1R4-R–NoLEDsilluminateatthispoint.
 • U224-4R4-R–TheRedLEDonthelocalunitilluminatesto
indicate it is receiving power from the computer’s USB port.
(U224-1R4-R only) Connect the external power supply to the local
unit, and then plug it into a Tripp Lite Surge Suppressor, Power
Distribution Unit (PDU) or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
Using Cat5e/6 cable, connect the RJ45 ports on the local and
remote units.
  • U224-1R4-R–TheRedLEDontheremoteunitilluminatesto 
indicate it is connected to the local unit.
  • U224-4R4-R–NoadditionalLEDsilluminateatthispoint.
(U224-4R4-R only) Connect the external power supply to the remote
unit, and then plug it into a Tripp Lite Surge Suppressor, Power
Distribution Unit (PDU), or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
  • U224-4R4-R–TheRedLEDontheremoteunitilluminatesto 

Connect a USB device to an available port on the local and/or remote
units. Note: Remote ports support USB 2.0 devices at USB 1.1 speeds.
  • U224-1R4-R–Onthelocalunit,theGreenLEDsnexttotheUSB
ports illuminate to indicate a USB device is connected, and
the Red LED in between the power and RJ45 jacks illuminates to
indicate a USB device is connected to the remote unit.
  • U224-4R4-R–Ontheremoteunit,theGreenLEDsnexttothe
USB ports illuminate to indicate a USB device is connected.
Repeat step 5 for each additional USB device you wish to connect.

Troubleshooting
If your USB Cat5 Extender/Hub is not working properly, try the following:
• Make sure that the unit is connected to the included AC Adapter and
plugged into a working power source
• Ensure that the Cat5e/6 cable connecting the Local and Remote Units
does not exceed 150 ft. (45m)
• Ensure that none of the USB cables being used to connect a device to
the USB Cat5 Extender/Hub are longer than 16 ft. (5m)
• Ensure that the Cat5e/6 cable is working properly by connecting it
between two devices you know work properly (e.g. connect a working
computer to a live network and try accessing the internet). If the
Cat5e/6 cable does not work in this environment, try using another
Cat5e/6 cable.
• Ensure that the USB cable functions properly by connecting to a device
that you know works properly (e.g. plug a USB printer directly into a
computer). If this does not work, try using another USB cable.
• Ensure that the USB device you are plugging in works properly by
connecting it to a working device using a USB cable that you know
works (e.g. connect a USB printer to a working computer using a cable
you know works). If this does not work, your USB device may not be
working properly.

Warranty
1-Year Limited Warranty
TRIPP LITE warrants its products to be free from defects in materials
and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of initial
purchase. TRIPP LITE’s obligation under this warranty is limited to
repairing or replacing (at its sole option) any such defective products. To
obtain service under this warranty, you must obtain a Returned Material
Authorization (RMA) number from TRIPP LITE or an authorized TRIPP LITE
service center. Products must be returned to TRIPP LITE or an authorized
TRIPP LITE service center with transportation charges prepaid and must be
accompanied by a brief description of the problem encountered and proof
of date and place of purchase. This warranty does not apply to equipment
which has been damaged by accident, negligence or misapplication or has
been altered or modified in any way.
EXCEPT AS PROVIDED HEREIN, TRIPP LITE MAKES NO WARRANTIES,
EXPRESSORIMPLIED,INCLUDINGWARRANTIESOFMERCHANTABILITY
AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Some states do not permit
limitation or exclusion of implied warranties; therefore, the aforesaid
limitation(s) or exclusion(s) may not apply to the purchaser.
EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, IN NO EVENT WILL TRIPP LITE BE LIABLE
FOR DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL
DAMAGESARISINGOUTOFTHEUSEOFTHISPRODUCT,EVENIFADVISED
OFTHEPOSSIBILITYOFSUCHDAMAGE.Specically,TRIPPLITEisnot
liable for any costs, such as lost profits or revenue, loss of equipment, loss

Instalación
Nota:
1. El diagrama anterior muestra la instalación de U224-1R4-R. La
instalación para el U224-4R4-R será la misma, excepto que los 4
puertos USB están localizados en la unidad remota y la fuente de

Conecte la unidad local a una computadora usando el cable USB
integrado.

Conecte un dispositivo USB a un puerto disponible en las unidades
local y/o remota. Nota: Los puertos remotos permiten dispositivos
USB 2.0 a velocidades de USB 1.1.

Solución de Problemas
Si su Extensor/HUB USB Cat5 no está funcionando adecuadamente,
intente lo siguiente:
• Asegúrese de que la unidad está conectada al adaptador CA incluido y
que está enchufado en una fuente de energía que funcione
• Cerciórese de que el cable Cat5e/6 que conecta las unidades local y
remota no supere los 150 pies (45m)
• Asegúrese de que ninguno de los cables USB que se vayan a usar para
conectar un dispositivo al Extensor/Hub USB Cat5 tengan una longitud
mayor a 16 pies (5m)
• Cerciórese de que el cable Cat5e/6 esté funcionando adecuadamente
conectándolo entre dos dispositivos que usted sepa que funcionan bien
(por ejemplo, conecte una computadora que funcione a una red activa
y trate de ingresar a Internet). Si el cable Cat5e/6 no funciona en este

Installation
Remarque :
1. Le diagramme ci-dessus illustre une installation de l’U224-1R4-R.
L’installation du U224-4R4-R sera identique, à l’exception que tous
les 4 ports USB seront localisés sur l’unité à distance, et que le bloc
d’alimentation externe sera branché à l’unité à distance.
2. Effectuez un essai afin de vous assurer que toute l’installation
fonctionne correctement avant de passer des câbles dans le plafond
ou les murs.
3. Les ports USB locaux fourniront un signal USB 2.0 alors que les ports
USB à distance fourniront seulement un signal USB 1.1.
