Installation - Enviro G-Series Restrictions

WARNING: IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE CHASE IS VENTED TO ALLOW
ADEQUATE AIRFLOW FOR THE CHASE COMFORT KIT. ENSURE ONE OF THE
AVAILABLE FRAMING OPTIONS HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED AS PERMITTED IN THE
FIREPLACE’S OWNER MANUAL. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CREATE AN OVERHEATING
SITUATION THAT COULD LEAD TO BUILDING FIRE AND IS NOT PERMITTED FOR
USE WITH THE CHASE COMFORT KIT.
Ensure the chase has been constructed in a manner that vents the chase into the same room (see gure 6). It
is not permitted to vent the chase into an adjoining room. The CSS bleeds heat off the replace into the
chase as opposed to climbing up the front face. This dramatically lowers the front wall temperatures allowing the
placement of delicate objects above the replace while also supplying the required air ow for the Chase Comfort
Kit. Review the guidelines in the replace’s owner manual to ensure the installation is in accordance with the
framing specications. Follow these instructions to activate the CSS feature. The non-combustible board included
with the replace is no longer required when using CSS.

Clearances are in accordance with local installation codes and the requirements of the gas supplier.

Note - The power head must be located within the same chase as the replace and can’t be
attached to ducting/venting or installed in a separate bulkhead.
WARNING - Chase must be vented for all G-Series replaces when using this kit. See previous page

3. Fasten the exterior thimble, using standard wood
screws to the framed opening. Making note to install
the thimble with the thicker border at the bottom.
Refer to Figure 9. Wall cladding can now be applied
on top of the thimble while leaving only the opening
for the power head installation.

1. Determine the location of the power head as
directed on the previous page. NOTE: The Chase
Comfort Kit allows for a minimum wall thickness of
8” (203mm) and a maximum wall thickness of 12”
(305mm).
For walls thinner than 8” the framing thimble will need
to be properly blocked and secured, and the power
head will either need to sit proud of the exterior facing
or sink further into the chase.
2. Cut and frame an opening that is 19” (483mm) tall
by 14 5/8” (371mm) wide for the exterior thimble as
shown in Figure 8.
4. Repeat step 2 for the interior thimble using the
same dimensions.
5. Repeat step 3 by sliding the interior thimble,
identied with a “2” on the face, around the sleeve of
the exterior thimble. The interior thimble does NOT
have a notch at the top, again ensure the thicker
border is at the bottom.
NOTE: Ensure the two framed openings are the same
height from the ground as thimble alignment will be
greatly impacted.
6. Determine the depth that the power head will sit
within the wall. For wall thicknesses greater than 9”,
the power head will mount ush with the nishing
face. For walls thinner than 9”, the power head will be
required to protrude from the nishing face.

8. A 115VAC power cable (not supplied) will need to be
routed to the rear of the power head:
A) Feed the cable through the strain relief on the
back of the power head. Roughly 3-6” cable is
recommended to be feed into the power head.
B) Tighten the two (2) screws on the strain relief to
clamp down and secure the cable within the power
head.
9. Install the power head into the exterior thimble and
fasten in place using eight (8) standard wood screws.
See Figure 10 for reference.
NOTE: Be sure to pull any cable slack back through
the thimble so it does not bind.
10. Seal the perimeter of the power head between
the main body and the nishing face with silicone or
caulking. Refer to Figure 11 for exact locations.

11. The exterior wall nishing material can now
be installed around the power head. The nishing
material can butt up against the perimeter of the
nishing face but the thickness cannot exceed 1”
(25.4mm). Refer to Figure 12.

7. Upon completion of Step 6, mount the nishing face
to the power head using eight (8) self-tapping screws.
Three (3) screws for each side and two (2) screws for
the bottom tab. Seal the screw heads with silicone.

square to the front of the power head

User Control - wirinG:
The Chase Comfort Kit may be wired in two different ways depending on user preference and the replace used:
1. Remove the power head’s front cover by removing the four (4) screws using a 1/4” nut driver. See Figures 13
& 14.
2. To wire the blower motor, use the supplied wire nuts to connect the two loose blower motor leads to the
incoming power that was routed through the rear strain relief. NOTE: Polarity of the leads does not effect
operation.
3. Reinstall the front cover to complete the power head installation.

Wall Switch / Rheostat - The
Chase Comfort kit may be wired
directly to a wall switch for simple
on/off control, or to a rheostat for
variable speed control (see gure
15). If using a rheostat, the voltage
range must be set to NOT drop
below 80VAC.

User Control Wiring
Remote Control (Urbana Fireplaces Only) - The Chase Comfort kit may be wired to the replace via the
unused comfort fan circuit (X10) on the existing IFC terminal block (see Figure 16). This will allow for on/off and
6 speed level control via the replace’s remote control. Refer to the replace’s installation manual for further
details on accessing the IFC.
Note - The fan icon will need to be activated on the remote in order to control the kit. See the following
section.

The replace must be electrically connected and grounded in accordance with local codes or, in the absence of local
codes, with the current CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code Part 1, Safety Standards For Electrical Installations,
or The National Electrical Code ANSI / NFPA 70 in the US.
CAUTION: When servicing controls, label all wires prior to disconnection. Wiring errors can cause improper and
dangerous operation. Verify proper operation after servicing.
If any of the original wire supplied with the appliance must be replaced, it must be replaced with 18 AWG wire
with a temperature rating of 105°C.

1. With no batteries inserted into the remote, keep pressed Power On/Off and O buttons.
2. Insert batteries into the remote while still pressing the two buttons. The following screen is displayed. Each
icon can be:
a. Set: the icon is set.
b. Clr: the icon is unset.
3. While still pressing the Power On/Off button down, press the O button to navigate through each icon.
4. Navigate to the fan blade icon. This is in Clr state.
5. While still pressing the Power On/Off button down, press the Up button to set the icon.
6. Release the Power On/Off button. The fan control function is now enabled and ready to be used.

An external duct damper is NOT required with this kit. The Chase Comfort Kit is equipped with an internal
sealing damper that closes whenever the blower is not in operation, sealing off the chase from the outside.
Whenever the blower is turned on, air from the chase will ow out of the power head discharge automatically
opening the damper. The discharge damper should be inspected periodically to conrm proper operation and all
seals are intact. To inspect the damper remove the power head front cover as shown in gures 13 & 14.

Maintenance & Service
For servicing purposes the complete inner assembly of the Comfort Kit is can be removed from the exterior side
of the power head. Prior to servicing the Comfort Kit conrm the supply power has been disconnected.
1. Using a 1/4” nut driver, remove the front cover (see gures 13 & 14).
2. Next, remove the four (4) base screws as shown in gure 23.
3. Remove the four (4) blower assembly screws at the rear of the power head as shown in gure 24.
4. Finally, disconnect the incoming power from the blower motor and cap the wires. The complete internal
assembly can now be removed.
