Introducing the TKP-8600
Thank you for purchasing URC’s TKP-8600 in-wall network keypad. Ideal for
residential and commercial installations, this slick in-wall touchscreen features a
brilliant 8 LCD screen to display vivid images, easy control, and live video from door
stations/surveillance cameras.
The native Audio Video Intercom offers convenient room-to-room communication
with live video is 1080p resolution. Install multiple intercom-enabled devices in the
home or business to make communication across each zone easy.
A built-in microphone provides easy voice communication and control using
Ama on Alexa and/or Siri (via Apple TV two-way module).

locally or remotely!
• Proximity Sensor with Automation Events: The TKP-8600’s advanced
proximity sensor wakes the device up as you approach it. Speak with a
certied URC Integrator about the possibility of triggering custom events
when the proximity sensor is tripped.
• HDA Streaming: Natively stream Alexa and Amazon audio services via an
integrated HDA system. This allows you to steam Amazon Music, Audible, or
your favorite Amazon audio service directly through your system’s HDA audio.
• Native Audio Video Intercom: Make calls audio or audio-video calls
throughout the system with other TKP-8600s or intercom enabled keypads.
• Portrait or Landscape Mode: The TKP-8600 can be displayed in either
Portrait or Landscape mode and is installed in a standard three-gang or
dual gang wall box.

TKP-8600 Installation Guidelines
The TKP-8600 can be iinstalled in a standard three-gang or dual gang wall box.
Releasing the Tamper Resistant Lock
1. Prior to installing the TKP-8600, ALWAYS make sure the tamper lock has
been released. Failing to do so could cause physical damage to the TKP-8600.
The lock is located at the top of the TKP-8600 and requires a special tool
(included in the box) to unlock.
To unlock the TKP-8600 use the supplied unlock tool to hook into the lock and
gently lift up. The lock remains recessed and the device can be installed.

New Construction
The TKP-8600 fits into any 3-gang or 2-gang box. However, there are certain
aspects of the installation that must be highlighted.
1. Measure the 3-gang or 2-gang box and using your preferred
cutting tool, cut a hole in the wall that matches the
measurements of the gang box.
2. Install the 3-gang or 2-gang box into the cut out and
securely tighten all the necessary screws.
3. Align the mounting bracket with the appropriate slots on the 3-gang or
2-gang box. Using the supplied screws, securely tighten the mounting
bracket on the 3-gang or 2-gang box.
4. Install the TKP-8600 onto the mounting bracket. The TKP-8600 is
equipped with magnets that make the installation process easier
and more secure.
5. Push down the tamper resistant lock to lock the TKP-8600 in place, keep
in mind the supplied removal tool is needed to open the lock.

For Retrofit Boxes
Installing the TKP-8600 into a retrotted 3-gang or 2-gang box is easy. The
mounting plate must be installed directly onto the 3-gang/2-gang box.
The frame of the retrot box provides ample space for the TKP-8600 to mount
properly on the mounting plate.
The mounting place is magnetic and attaches to the back of the TKP-8600 easily.
Prior to installing the TKP-8600, assure that the lock is disengaged.

Navigating the Main Menu
Although the specic screen design and button option are dictated by your certied URC
integrator, the general layout remains the same amongst URC interfaces.
Navigating across pages is performed through screen swipes:
• Swipe Left: Reveals additional Main Menu pages, the total amount of
pages is determined by the URC programmer and can be customized.
• Swipe Right: When on the rst page of the Main Menu, swiping right
navigates the user to the Scenes Menu (if programmed). For more information
on the Scenes Menu, speak to your certied URC integrator.
• Button Tapping: Perform a singe-tap on any button on the TKP-8600 to
perform its programmed function.
• Press-n-Hold: Certain buttons require a specic button press. These buttons
require the user to press and hold the icon down for three or more seconds to
perform the programmed action.
Below are description of page elements you can interact with:
1. Category/Device Ribbon: Select a Category (i.e. Entertainment) to reveal the
associated submenu or select a device (i.e. Cable Box) to access that device’s
control menu. The buttons available here are dictated by the URC programmer.
2. Rooms Menu: Select the Room/Zone name to access the system’s
Rooms Menu. This menu allows the end-user to select and control another
area in the system.
3. Volume Control: Tap the minus (-) button to decrease the volume or the plus (+)
button to increase it. Press the mute button to toggle the functionality on/off.
4. Page Indicators: Signify one of the following:
Scenes Menu: This icon indicates that the Room contains a
Scenes Menu.
Faded Circle: Indicates additional pages that user can navigate too.
White Circle: Indicates the current page the user is on.

5. Shortcuts Menu: Select this icon to access the TKP-8600’s Shortcuts menu.
This menu is design to hold up to six (6) your favorite devices or activities
found within the current Room/Zone.
6. Main: Select this button to jump the interface to the first Main Menu
page. This can be customized to jump to Scenes Menu, if preferred. Speak to
your URC programmer about your preferences.
7. Power Off: Press this button once to turn off the current room. Press-n-hold this
button for greater than three (3) seconds to display the Power Menu.
The Power Menu provides the user with options to shut off the entire system
or current room/zone.
8. Status Display Items: This area displays items that are programmed by the
URC integrator. This can display information such as Sunrise, Sunset, Room Link
Status, Alarm Clock Status, and more.
9. Current Time: Displays the current time, the Total Control system operates on
an astronomical clock to accurately display time and trigger timed events.
10. Now Playing: This area of the screen updates with the activity or device
that is currently being used. Tap the Now Playing area to instantly jump to
that device or activity’s control menu.
11. Microphone Button: When illuminated in white, this button is push to talk
microphone for the native Alexa Voice Assistant Service.

Main Menu View Modes
Total Control features two (2) different view modes for the TKP-8600. Each view
mode has its own unique properties that compliment the user experience.
The view mode must be congured by a certied URC integrator. Speak with your
URC programmer about which view mode you want the TKP-8600 to be installed as.
• Ribbon View: This is the default view mode and it provides up to six (6)
buttons per page.
• Grid View: This view mode contains up to 15 buttons per page.

Title Bar:
The Title Bar is always present regardless of what menu and/or room the TKP-8600 is
currently using.
On the left of the Title Bar, the current room the TKP-8600 is controlling is displayed.
Selecting the Room/Zone name displays the system’s Rooms Menu.
The Title Bar, is located at the very top of the display. To access its menu, swipe
down from the Title Bar as depicted on the image to the right. Below are the available
options in this menu:
1. Close: Select this to hide the Title Bar menu.
2. Weather Module: Select this to display the Time & Date Weather Module,
this feature requires Internet. This location must be set by a URC integrator.
3. Intercom: Select this button to display the Intercom Menu. This menus
displays all the available Intercom-Enabled devices.
4. Ribbon Move: Clicking on this button allows the user to reposition the
Category/Device Ribbon up or down on the screen.
5. Settings Menu: Select this button to enter the TKP-8600’s Settings Menu.
Keep in mind, your URC programmer has congured this device to operate at its
best. Changes to certain settings may cause issues within your system and
require troubleshooting.
It is best to only access this menu if instructed to by your URC integrator or by
URC’s Technical Support Team.

Room’s Menu
Tap on the Room/Zone name located at the top left of the screen to display the
Rooms Menu.
The Rooms Menu provides access to every room programmed in the system.
Specic rooms may be hidden from certain interfaces, speak with your URC
programmer for that option.
Each Room displayed is programmed with a custom Room Name and Image to
represent that zone. This menu also provides convenient controls such as controlling
volume, turning off lights, and more.
Below are descriptions of the available buttons in this menu:
1. Volume Control: Click on this button to to increase, decrease or mute that
Room/Zone’s current volume.
2. Lights Off Action Command: Total Control supports a variety of lighting
subsystems including, but not limited to, Z-Wave, Philips Hue, Lutron, and more.
Your URC integrator can program this button to turn the lights off in the selected
Room/Zone.
3. Room Off: Select this button turn off all the devices in that particular room. This
button can ONLY be used to power off devices.
4. Now Playing: Displays the active activity or device in the Room/Zone.
Selecting this area instantly navigates the user to that activity/device’s
control menu.
5. Room Linking: This feature is only available using URC HDA subsystem. It is
used to temporarily combine HDA Zones. This provides a single
Volume Control menu and shared sources across linked zones.

HDA Zone Linking:
This feature is only available when integrated with URC HDA audio distribution
system. For more details, please speak with your certied URC integrator.
To link two (2) or more Zones together, perform the following:
1. Locate an HDA controlled one, you’ll nd this by looking for the
chainlink icon.
2. Select the chainlink icon, this displays the Room Linking Menu.
3. From the Room Linking Menu,select the HDA controlled ones that
you want to temporarily link.
4. Select the Check Mark.
The selected HDA Zones have been linked and share the same audio
source as the room where the Zone Linking was initiated (step 1 of this
page).

Using the Intercom
The TKP-8600 has the capability of communicating across the home or business over the
network to any other URC intercom-enabled device.
There are three (3) types of calls that can be made:
• Audio Call: Using the built-in microphone of your intercom-enabled device, the
Total Control system can make audio only calls to any room/zone that contains a
compatible interface.
• Audio-Video Call: Using the built in camera an microphone of your intercom-
enabled device, the Total Control system can make an audio and video call to
any room/zone that contains a compatible interface.

• Audio Broadcast Call: This type of call is audio only and can communicate
with all intercom-enabled devices found within the system.

Navigating the Intercom Menu
As mentioned on page 9, accessing the Intercom is performed by swiping down on
the Title Bar and selecting the Intercom icon. This icon can also be manually
placed within the Shortcuts menu.
After selecting the Intercom icon, the following is displayed:
1. Available Devices: This section displays all the intercom-enabled devices
as well as integrated 3rd Party Door Stations (such as DoorBird) within the
system. Each device has a status indicator:
• Green: Indicates the device is available for an Intercom call.
• Yellow: Indicates the device is NOT available to receive a call.
• Red: Indicates the device is currently set to DO NOT DISTURB mode.
2. Audio Broadcast: Select to start an Audio Broadcast call.
3. Set to Do Not Disturb Mode: Toggle the on/off switch to enable or
disable Do Not Disturb mode. When an interface is set as such, it cannot
make or receive calls.

Once the call is accepted, the TKP-8600 provides two-way communication
between intercom-enabled devices via audio.
Below are descriptions of the available options on the Audio Call screen:

c. Enable Video: Select this button to add video to the current call.
