Operating Manual 7
www.ushio.com
Touchscreen Operation
Upon startup, the USHIO logo briefly appears, as well as a subtitle “UV
365nm” or “UVV 405nm” identifying the wavelength of the LED.
After the logo displays for 3 seconds, the operator menu appears.
The 405nm version of the logo screen is shown below.

Midori™ ULB-50sc8www.ushio.com
Operator Menu
The operator menu is intended for most usage. It displays the currently selected
on-time for the LED, as well as the intensity.
Pressing the Start button turns on the UV output. While the UV is on, a slider
beneath that button gradually fills, and the Start button is replaced with a Stop
button that turns off the output. This is pictured below.
The user can also turn the output on or off by pressing an attached footswitch.
The gear icon in the upper right corner will allow the user to edit their settings,
after entering a password (if Password Lock is enabled).
A warning will appear if a fiber isn’t detected and the UV output will be disabled.

Operating Manual 9
www.ushio.com
Operator Menu Advanced Information
The operator menu can change significantly based on a user’s settings.
The two text boxes describe the on-time and the intensity settings. The on time
describes how long the UV LED will be lit after pressing the Start button. The
second textbox reads either Current or Intensity, and is used to describe how
much power will be supplied to the LED.
The textbox at the bottom describes the current UV measurement. This will only
appear if the device is in Intensity Mode. In intensity mode, the UV output is
maintained using a PID loop. The measured UV output is shown at the bottom of
the screen as a percentage of the maximum output by default. This value can be
shown in watts or watts/cm2 instead based on the user’s settings.
By default, this device operates in Timer Control Mode. In this mode, the output
can be turned on or off by pressing a footswitch or the “Start” button on the
operator menu. The LED stays on for a set amount of time.
The user can instead set the device to External Control Mode. In this mode, the
operator menu is modified, as shown below. Instead of turning on the UV LED for
a set amount of time after a button press, the UV LED stays on as long as the user
is holding down a pedal or a PLC input is received. In this mode, the Start/Stop
button on the touchscreen is removed.

Midori™ ULB-50sc10 www.ushio.com
Password Entry
In order to change settings, a password must be entered if the “Password Lock”
setting is enabled. By default, this setting is disabled.
If the user enters the wrong password, the screen will turn red and a warning
reading “Invalid Password” will appear for 2 seconds. Tapping the screen removes
the error message immediately.
The password is 87446 (“USHIO” on a phone keypad). If the user enters the
correct password, they will be sent to the settings menu.

Operating Manual 11
www.ushio.com
Settings Menu
This menu shows the current settings. Each of these green boxes is a button that
the user can press to edit that setting.
The On Time shows how long an LED will be turned on for after pressing the Start
button or a pedal. Press this to go to the Time Menu.
The second button describes either the Current or the Intensity (depending on the
user’s settings). Press this to go to the Intensity Menu.
The button labeled “Calibration” goes to the Calibration Menu, where the user can
calibrate their device.
The fourth button goes to the Control Mode Menu. There the user can select what
method is used to set the duration of the output.
The button labeled “Password” goes to the Password Menu, where the user can
enable a password lock onto the device’s settings.
The fifth button returns to the Operator Menu.

Midori™ ULB-50sc12 www.ushio.com
Time Menu
This menu is used to edit how long the LED will be turned on for after the Start
button or an external pedal is pressed. By default, this value is 10 seconds.
The user can use the number pad to type in an amount in seconds.
If a value is outside of the valid range (1-120 seconds), an error message will
appear for 2 seconds. Tapping the screen removes this error message immediately.
Press “Exit” to return to the Settings Menu.

Operating Manual 13
www.ushio.com
Intensity Menu
This menu is used to control how much UV output power is supplied.
By default, the device uses Intensity Mode. In this mode, the user can type in
percentage current supplied to the LED, from 0% to 100% output intensity. Values
outside of this range are invalid, and the user will be shown an error message.
The user can activate a Constant Power Mode by pressing the mode button. In
this mode, the output is controlled by a PID feedback loop. The UV output is
continuously measured and the current to the UV LED is raised or lowered to
maintain a constant power output. The user can choose the desired constant
output by referencing menu guidelines.
By default, this intensity setpoint is chosen as a percentage of the maximum
possible measurement. For instance, if the user chooses 80% as their intensity
setpoint, the spot cure unit will attempt to maintain 80% of its maximum UV output.
Alternatively, the user can enter custom calibration settings from the Manual
Calibration menu. They can enter their own maximum setpoint measurement, and
they can choose their own unit of measurement – either watts or watts per cm2.

Midori™ ULB-50sc14 www.ushio.com
Attempting to select an intensity setpoint over the maximum will result in an error
being displayed briefly on screen. This maximum is either 100% or the user’s
calibration setpoint. The decimal button is only available in Intensity Mode due
to resolution in Current Mode is increments of 1%. The Mode button is used
to switch between Current Mode and Intensity Mode. The Exit button is used to
return to the Settings Menu.
Calibration Menu
The purpose of this menu is to calibrate the UV sensor in order to ensure that the
device maintains a correct constant output in Intensity Mode.
The first way to perform this task is to press the Auto Calibrate button. This
will turn on the UV output automatically for about 5 seconds. During this time, a
message reading “Calibrating…” will appear, followed by one reading “Calibration
Complete!” once the 5 second timer has run out.
The measured UV output during this time will be treated as the 100% maximum
output from now on. This measurement occurs when outputting 90% current,
in order to guarantee that the device has some overhead to increase the current
as the LED heats up. Doing an auto-calibration automatically sets the unit of
measurement to a percentage instead of a value in watts or w/cm2.

Operating Manual 15
www.ushio.com
The Exit button on the calibration menu returns the user to the Settings Menu.
The Manual Calibrate button leads to the Manual Calibration.
Manual Calibration
While the user is on this menu, the UV output is permanently turned on. This
allows the user to perform a measurement with any measurement device. The user
can type in the measured value using this screen. The Unit button lets the user
toggle through several units of measurement. These units are Percent, Watts, and
Watts/cm2.
When Percent is selected, the number buttons disappear and the setpoint is
always treated as 100% instead of a user-entered value.

Midori™ ULB-50sc16 www.ushio.com
Just like the auto-calibration method, the LED current is limited to 90% of its
maximum value on this page in order to give room to increase the current as the
LED heats up, in order to maintain a constant output over time. The measured UV
output on the operator menu will use the selected unit of measurement.
Control Mode Menu
The device operates in two control modes – Timer Control and External Control.
Timer Control Mode is the default setting. In this mode, pressing the start button
on the operator menu or pressing an attached footswitch will turn on the UV output
for a set amount of time. Pressing the pedal/start button while the UV output is
active turns off the output immediately.
External Control Mode disables the operator menu start button. Instead, the
UV output is exclusively controlled by holding down an attached footswitch or
PLC input. Holding down the pedal turns on the output, and releasing the pedal
immediately turns it off.

Operating Manual 17
www.ushio.com
Password Menu
This device’s settings can be locked behind a password. By default, this feature is
disabled, but it can be enabled or disabled on this page.
When the password lock is on, pressing the gear icon on the operator menu will
send the user to the Password Entry page. When the lock is off, the gear icon
sends the user directly to the Settings page.
Pressing the Exit button returns to the Settings page.
Fiber Insertion Warning
When the UV output is enabled on the operator menu, the device performs a check
to determine if the fiber isn’t fully inserted. If the fiber isn’t fully inserted, this
warning appears and the UV is turned off.
Pressing Continue returns to the operator menu.
If the fiber is removed, a warning appears, blocking the Continue button. This
warning reads “Insert Fiber to Continue”.
