Use of the ECD:
Quickstart Guide for disinfection of masks
Insert your mask(s) inside the ECD. If your
mask has overlapping materials, fold it open
so the ECD light can reach all its surfaces.
Multiple masks should not overlap.

Check for visible debris in the
disinfection chambers. If necessary,
clean with an antiseptic wipe
according to hospital protocol.
Read these Instructions for Use.

Keep your hands clear from the inside
of the ECD. Using the handle, close the
ECD all the way until it is closed.

5a. Check through the window if the lights
are on. If they are not, contact UV Smart.
b. Wait 25 seconds until the control-LED
lights up green. Then wait for 10 seconds.
After that, the device will automatically
continue (for 25 seconds) to nish the
disinfection cycle.
c. After a total of 60 seconds the control-
LED lights up green again. Open the ECD
manually using the handle.

After two cycles, your mask(s) has/have
been successfully disinfected and is/are
safe to use. With disinfected hands, take
out your mask(s).
6Disinfect your hands.
Take-out the mask(s) from the
ECD, ip it/them inside-out and
place it/them back inside the
ECD. Repeat steps 4,5,6 and
then proceed to step 8.

1. Check through the window if
the lights are on. If they are not,
contact UV Smart.
2. Wait 25 seconds for the ECD
to complete the disinfection run.
3. When the LED turns green
after 25 seconds, open the ECD
all the way using the handle.
Your equipment has been successfully
disinfected and is safe to use. With
disinfected hands, take out your
equipment.
Disinfect your hands.

Warnings
Upon delivery, check if all items are present, without debris and undamaged. Do
not use a damaged ECD. If you think the ECD is damaged, dirty or items are
missing, please contact UV Smart or your local distributor.
Transportation with or axing to a trolley is at the customer’s own risk.
Do not use the ECD in an oxygen enriched environment or in the vicinity of
combustible gases (e.g. anesthetics).
The ECD must only be connected to a mains power supply with protective earth, to
avoid the risk of electric shock.
Protect the ECD and the power supply against liquids and moisture.
Do not insert equipment with working channels.
Do not insert invasive equipment.
Do not insert items made of organic materials.
Do not insert sharp objects.
Do not insert humans or animals.
Do not insert ammable substances in the ECD to prevent damage and risk of re/
explosion.
Do not insert masks and/or equipment which are exceeding the height of the
bottom disinfection chamber.
Do not insert masks and/or equipment that do not t within the bottom disinfection
chamber.
When inserting multiple masks and/or equipment, they should not overlap and/or
cast shadows on each other.

Masks and/or equipment should not touch the side walls of the disinfection chamber.
Do not close the lid with excessive force.
Do not open the ECD during a disinfection run, unless when strictly necessary
because of external factors.
Precautions
With initial use, the user is required to read the Instructions for Use.
Do not carry the ECD when the lid is in an open position.
Make sure the ECD is properly positioned on a steady surface.
Avoid applying external force in the ‘opening’ direction when the lid is in open
position.
Always verify if the UV-C lamps switch on when a disinfection run is ongoing.

Placement of masks and/or equipment
Masks and/or equipment should not
be higher than the indicated edge.
Masks and/or equipment should
not touch the side walls.
Masks and/or equipment should not
be placed outside of the middle plane.

Interface
The ECD interface consists of a multi-color
LED. The information that is communicated to
the user is described in the table below.

Possible meanings
▪ The mask and/or equipment has not
been disinfected.
▪Something is wrong with the ECD.
▪ The mask and/or equipment has been
successfully disinfected
▪ECD is ready to be used, insert mask
and/or equipment and close the lid for
disinfection.
Action options
▪Open the lid and close it again to
try another disinfection cycle.
▪If the red light remains to stay on,
contact UV Smart
▪ Take out mask and/or equipment
▪ Insert mask and/or equipment
▪Close the lid.

Problem solving
Problem solving
In case of an occurring problem, please refer to the interface page (p.10) and
identify the meaning behind the LED feedback and take corresponding action.
Contact UV Smart or your local distributor in case you were not able to resolve the
problem.
Overheating
In case of the ECD overheating, unplug the power cable from the mains power.
In case of a re, extinguish it with a re extinguisher. Call UV Smart or your local
distributor to report and resolve any issue.
Disposal
The ECD can be returned to UV Smart for further disposal. Please contact UV
Smart or your local distributor for further information.
