Before you use your new Solax , you and your attendant must fully read and understand this user manual. Also, as

you have this document, you agree to the conditions mentioned within.

We want to thank you for the condence in our Solax ® products. The policy of Van Os Medical is focussed on

continuously improving the quality and reliability of our products. We therefore reserve the right without further

notice to make any changes to this user manual.

It is important you read this user manual very carefully, before you use your scooter. This user manual contains

important information about the safe use and maintenance of your scooter. We recommend you keep this user

manual, because it is also your proof of warranty.

The safety instructions within are general guidelines, which must be seen as overall guidelines. It is possible that

you develop your own way to make common movements. However, we advise you to consult a professional

for assistance in developing safe and eective techniques, regarding your daily activities within your physical

capabilities. Your new scooter requires frequent maintenance, much of which you can do yourself. We advise you

to take your scooter to a professional for a check at least once a year. You will nd a maintenance schedule further

on in this user manual.

1. Production date

The date of manufacture.

2. Serial number

Every scooter has its own unique serial number. You need this number if you have any technical questions or if you

want to order any warranty parts for the scooter.

3. Maximum weight

The maximum weight allowed on the scooter.

4. Model number

This number indicates which model of scooter you have. You need this number when you have any technical

questions or you want to order any parts of the scooter.

5. Model name

The model name of your scooter starts with the brand name Excel. The brand name Solax, followed by the

additional model description forms the model name of the scooter. You need the model name if you have any

technical questions or if you want to order any parts for the scooter, in this case the Solax Go! or Solax Deluxe.

6. Description

The intended use of your scooter is described here.

Your scooter is equipped with various components and parts. You should know these components and parts

before proceeding with reading this user manual, Designs and specications may be changed without further

notice.

2.2 General explanation of your scooter

The Solax travel scooter is a ultra-compact scooter who is foldable. The scooter is equipped with a luxe delta

steeringwheel with a clear dashboard and control through a wigwag system. The steering column of the Solax is

in angle and height adjustable. Both versions of the Solax are equipped with foldable armrests and comfortable

upholstery. The Solax Deluxe folds electronically through a remote control or the button on the back of the scooter.

The Solax Go! is equipped with a space for a second battery, through which the range can be doubled. Both

versions are equipped with a reector for added visibility.

3. Safety regulations

Van Os Medical B.V. specically disclaims responsibility for any injuries or property damage, which may occur during

any use when the recommendations and warnings described in this user manual are not followed.

The Solax is a safe and stable product when used correctly, it is possible if you use scooter incorrectly that

dangerous situations may occur.

3.1 General safety regulations

Protect your scooter by checking it regularly. When a part of your Solax doesn’t function correctly, a dangerous

situation could occur. Therefore, you must keep your scooter in perfect condition, to ensure safe use. Periodical

inspection, correct adjustment and replacement of broken or worn parts in quick time will result in use for years

without any problems. A qualied Solax dealer, who will only use Solax replacement parts, will take care of your

scooter and make sure you can use your scooter for years without problems.

3.2. Warnings for safe use

To prevent any damage to your property, the scooter or the user of the scooter , you must read the following

warnings. Van Os Medical B.V. is not responsible for any damage, provided that the warnings are heeded. After

reading the warnings, you agree with the regulations, mentioned in this user manual.

• Failure to follow all the instructions in this manual may result in damage to the scooter or serious injury;

• Always operate your scooter with thought, care and safety;

• Do not drive into kerbs;

• It is important that the maximum user weight is not exceeded. The maximum user weight is the weight of the

occupant including luggage, etc;

• Unauthorised modication and or use of parts not supplied by Solax will invalidate the warranty of this

scooter and may lead to injury to the user and or damage to the scooter;

• Do not let children play with or on your scooter or take any children on your lap while driving;

• To avoid tipping hazard, do not make turns at full speed;

• All wheels must be in contact with the oor at all times during use. This will ensure the scooter is properly

balanced;

• Do not use your scooter when it is damaged or has any malfunction;

• Do not attempt to use your scooter on an escalator. Always use an elevator;

• Do not carry passengers under any circumstances;

• Always make sure the scooter is o before transporting or dismantling;

• Never drive across a slope or incline this will result in the scooter tipping over;

• Do not drive backwards with your scooter on an incline or across an uneven surface;

• Always make sure the seat is locked in place before operating your scooter;

• Always come to a full stop before changing direction from forward to reverse or from reverse to forward;

• Do not use your scooter if you are under the inuence of alcohol, drugs or medication;

• Do not negotiate ramps or kerbs that exceed your scooters capacity;

• Always approach inclines straight on;

• Always be aware of and careful near mechanical pinch points especially when assembling and disassembling

your scooter;

• Never sit on your scooter when it is being transported;

• If you need to transport the scooter by car, you should always do this with the right system;

• Always keep extra care when driving on soft or uneven surface such as grass and gravel, to decrease the risk

of getting stuck in the ground;

• Always cross streets at junctions or designated crossing points and use crosswalks or the most direct route,

• making sure that your path is clear and that you are visible to motor trac;

• Never drive backwards o a kerb;

• Never drive a kerb or step up or down if it is higher than one third of the diameter of the wheels in cm;

• Never drive your scooter over a gap;

• Do not drive your scooter in icy or salted conditions;

• Always check with your doctor to determine if any of the medications you are taking may aect your judgment

and/or your ability to operate your scooter. Also check with your physician cocnerning your physical ability to

operate a scooter.

Warning

The implementation of changes to the Solax scooter, which are structural changes, is at all times at the expense of

the warranty.

4. User instructions

It is very important that you teach yourself the correct user instructions. Therefore, you need to know all the

components of the scooter as described in this user manual. Always check with an expert about developing safe

methods regarding your physical abilities to use your scooter.

4.1 Balance

Daily actions like getting in and out of the scooter, reaching and bending, will aect the balance of the scooter. This

has to do with the weight distribution and a change in the centre of gravity. To avoid the scooter tipping over or

other dangerous situations, follow the instructions below.

4.1.1 Getting in and out of the scooter

Getting in and out of the scooter is a common action. The level of diculty when getting in and out depends on,

among other things, your physical abilities. Within we describe the guidelines you should follow when getting in and

out of the scooter. When you can no longer do this without help, we advise you to talk to an occupational therapist

to discuss your possibilities and decide how you can best get in and out of the scooter.

Getting in the scooter

Before getting in the scooter, make sure it is on a at surface. The scooter should always be in drive setting before

getting in. When the scooter is in drive, the motor brake is engaged automatically. Always check if the scooter is

turned o. You can do this by looking at the LED lights on the dashboard. The dashboard will not be lit. When the

scooter is turned o, you prevent the possibility of accidently touching the levers and hurting yourself or others.

You should make sure that the tiller is in the upright position. When getting in, you can ip up the armrest on one

side. Before driving, always ip the armrests back down. Put your foot in the (approximate) middle of the foot

platform when getting in the scooter. If there is a seatbelt present, you should fasten it before driving. To assume

the ideal driving posture, you can adjust the tiller in the desired angle. Turn on the scooter. The LED lights on the

dashboard will be clearly lit.

Getting out of the scooter

When getting out of the scooter, follow the instructions for getting in, in reverse order. Make sure to always turn o

the scooter before getting out. Return the tiller back into its most upright position. You can now ip up the armrest

and get out of the scooter. Always try to get out as close to your destination as possible.

4.2 Bending and/or reaching

It is possible that you need to grab something when you are in the scooter. This can be something next to you, but

also in front of or behind you. To prevent tipping over or falling out of your scooter, we have described how you can

best bend and or reach in your scooter.

4.2.1 Bending and/or reaching forward

When you want to get something that is in front or your scooter, you should follow the steps below;

• Make sure you are as close to the object as possible with your scooter;

• Make sure the wheels of the scooter are all in a forward direction;

• Turn o the scooter so the motor brake engages;

• You can now bend forward without the risk of loosing balance.

4.2.2 Bending and/or reaching to the side

If you want to get something that is to the side of your scooter, you should follow the steps below;

• Make sure you are as close to the object as possible with your scooter;

• Make sure the wheels of the scooter are all in a forward direction;

• Turn o the scooter so the motor brake engages;

• You can now bend to the side without the risk of losing balance. Make sure that, when lifting, move as close to

the scooter as possible

4.2.3 Bending and/or reaching backwards

If you want to get something that is behind your scooter, you should follow the steps below;

• Make sure you are as close to the object as possible with your scooter;

• Turn o the scooter so the motor brake engages;

• You can now bend backwards without the risk of losing balance.

4.3 Going up- and down inclines

It is possible you have to go up or down an incline with your scooter. In this manual we describe how you can do

this independently.

Tip

Make sure you inspect the incline before negotiating. That way you will know what to expect and you can safely go

upwards or downwards.

4.3.1 Going up an incline

When you want to go up an incline, always do so by going in a forwards direction. Make sure you have control when

negotiating the incline. This means not going up in the slowest speed setting, but with a controlled average speed.

Keep the scooter driving when going up an incline. Should you stop on an incline, restart and increase speed slowly.

When you stop and then restart, it is possible that the scooter rst moves backward a little bit, before continuing in

a forward direction.

4.3.2 Going down an incline

When you want to go down an incline, always do so by going in a forwards direction. Additionally, you should always

drive in a straight line. To keep control of your scooter it is important to not travel too fast. You can control your

speed by the amount of tension you put on the levers.

4.4 Steering

The most important action on a scooter is steering. Below is described how to best do this in dierent situations.

You should always keep both hands on the handlebar to steer left or right. Van Os Medical recommends you

assume a driving posture with slightly bent arms. This provides more driving comfort. When you are about to take a

turn, always decrease your speed. This prevents the risk of falling over with your scooter.

4.4.1 Steering in dierent situations

Your scooter is developed to increase mobility. When driving, you will encounter dierent situations. To be able to

steer well in these situations, below we have described a few situations and how to best handle them. By following

the steps below, you prevent dangerous situations from occurring.

Warning

Never go up or down an incline that is covered with snow, ice, recently mowed or wet grass, leaves or other possibly

dangerous material.

Warning

If your scooter starts going faster than you want to when going down an incline, slowly release the gas lever. By

feeding less power the scooter will automatically brake, causing the scooter to slow down. When you feel you have

regained control of the scooter, keep the lever in this position.

Steering in small spaces

• Turn o the scooter completely;

• Turn down to the lowest setting;

• Steer in the desired direction;

• Slowly pull the gas lever.

Steering backwards

• Turn down to the lowest speed setting;

• Pull the left gas lever;

• Turn the handlebar to the left to go left. When you want to go right, turn it to the right;

• If mirrors are present, keep an eye on them when driving backwards.

Uneven surfaces

• Your scooter performs perfectly on smooth surfaces. It is also possible to ride on uneven surfaces like grass,

gravel and sand. The scooter can also ride on slippery surfaces like snow and ice. But we advise you to avoid

these surfaces;

• When riding on uneven or slippery surfaces, adjust your speed to the situation;

• Make sure not to stop on these surfaces. You can avoid this by adjusting the speed to the lowest setting.

4.5 EMI / RFI

The fast developement of electronics, mostly in the area of communication, has ooded our world with

electromagnetic (radio) waves transmitted by TV, radio, laptops, microwaves and pacemakers. These

electromagnetic waves are invisible and get stronger the closer one gets to a source. If these electromagnetic

waves cause electrical appliances to stop functioning correctly or even completely stop working, this is called

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or Radio Frequency Interference (RFI).

All electrical vehicles, including scooters, are susceptible for Electromagnetic Interference / Radio Frequency

Interfenrece (RFI). This can result in unexpected movements of your scooter. Should any unintended movements

occur, or the brakes don’t work as normal, turn o your scooter immediately. The FDA has ruled that every scooter

should be able to resist EMI / RFI up to a certain level. The higher the level of interference it can withstand, the

better the protection against EMI / RFI is. This is measured in volts per meter (V/m). The minimum resistance level

against EMI / RFI should be 20 V/m. This product has been tested and found to have a resistance level of 20 V/m.

4.5.1. EMI / RFI recommendations

• Do not use personal electronic communication devices like a mobile phone, when using your scooter;

• Be extra careful when in the neighbourhood of radio- and TV towers;

• Turn o your scooter when you are standing still for a longer time.

6. Components of the Solax

In this chapter the dierent components of the Solax are described. On the scooter are a number of adjustable

parts. If you want to add or remove any of its components, make any adjustments of replace components, you

should always follow the instructions described in this user manual.

6.1 Dashboard

6.1.1 Dashboard of the Solax Go!

The Solax Go! is equipped with a control panel. The control panel of the Solax Go! is easy to read and to operate.

The photo below shows the dashboard. The numbers are explained in more detail below.

1. On- and o button

The on/o button is located on the side of the dashboard. Click the button to ‘On’ to use the scooter. Click the

button to ‘O’ to turn o the scooter.

2. Speed button

The speed button is located on the right side of the dashboard and controls the speed of your scooter. You start at

the lowest speed until you are sure that you fully controls the vehicle and it feels familiar. Turn the controller with

the clock in order to reduce the speed. Turn counterclockwise to increase speed.

3. Joysticks

To ride forwards with you scooter, pull the right lever (photo 1). Reversing the Solax Go! is also possible. This is

done by pulling the left lever toward you, see photo 2. The Solax Go! is equipped with an automatic brake. This

ensures that when you release the lever to go forward or backward, the scooter brakes automatically.

4. Battery indicator

The battery indicator shows the level of power in the battery. Green means the battery is fully charged, orange

means the battery is half full and red means power is running low and it is time to charge the battery.

It is important to avoid completely running out of power. Never let the battery drop below 20% charge as this will

aect the life of your battery.

6.1.2 Dashboard of the Solax Deluxe

The Solax Deluxe is equipped with a clear dashboard. The dashboard of the Solax Deluxe is easy to read and easy

to operate. The photo below shows the dashobard. The numbers are explained in more detail below.

1. Switch

The Solax Deluxe is equipped with a switch. You need to rotate the key clockwise to turn the scooter (“on”). Once

turned on the scooter, the battery indicator will turn on. To turn o the scooter again, you need to turn in the

opposite direction (“o”).

2. Speed button

The speed button controls the speed of your scooter. You start at the lowest speed until you are sure that you

fully controls the vehicle and it feels familiar. Turn the controller with the clock in order to reduce the speed. Turn

counterclockwise to increase speed.

3. Joysticks

To ride forwards with you scooter, pull the right lever. Reversing the Solax Deluxe is also possible. This is done by

pulling the left lever toward you. The Solax Deluxe is equipped with an automatic brake. This ensures that when

you release the lever to go forward or backward, the scooter brakes automatically.

4. Battery indicator

The battery indicator shows the level of power in the battery. Green means the battery is fully charged, orange

5. Horn

The Solaxe Deluxe is equipped with a horn. You can use it to inform other road users of potential danger.

6.2 The tiller

The tiller of the Solax Go! and the Solax Deluxe is easy to adjust in angle. To adjust the tiller in the desired angle, the

riding comfort improves. Please follow the following steps, you can adjust the tiller:

• On photo 3 you see the tiller in its most upright position;

• On photo 4 you see a lever. You have to press this handle. You can adjust the tiller with the other hand;

• As soon as the tiller is in the desired position, you can release the lever;

• If you want to put the tiller back into its most upright position, follow the steps for moving towards in

reverse order.

It is also possible to adjust the tiller in height. You can do this with the black lever (photo 6). You have to loosen the

black lever and then you can adjust the tiller in height.

6.3 Battery

The Solax is tted with a high quality 25,9V Lithium Ion battery cassette, which can be removed easily. The battery

does not need to be removed to transport the scooter, but it is possible to remove it, to reduce the weight of

the scooter. Because the battery can be removed, you can invest in a second battery, which doubles the range.

The Solax Go! is equipped with a handy storage compartment for a second battery. The battery does not require

maintenance. The only thing it needs, is to be charged from time to time. How to charge and remove the battery, is

described below.

6.3.1 Charging the battery

Because you battery is not fully charged when you receive it, you can not experience the full travel time. You have

completely charge the battery. Your scooter is equipped with a charger. Charging the battery as described below,

will garantee a maximum lifetime, power and range for your scooter;

• Turn the power on the scooter;

• Flip away the cover on the charger inlet and attach the charger;

• When charging, a light will be on. When the battery is fully charged, the light will turn green.

6.3.2 Removing the battery

The battery of the Solax scooter is removable. To remove the battery, you have to pull on the handle.

the battery back, follow the steps above in reverse order. When you hear a click, the battery has locked into place

correctly.

6.4 The armrests

The Solax is equipped with foldable armrests. The armrests fold can be done very easily by pulling up the armrest
