1. Assembly (Skipping this can lead to troubles ! )
Ok, so we have your attention. These hints will help you to make this project successful.
Read them carefully.
1.1 Make sure you have the right tools:
•A good quality soldering iron (25-40W) with a
small tip.
•Wipe it often on a wet sponge or cloth, to keep
it clean; then apply solder to the tip, to give it a
wet look. This is called ‘thinning’ and will protect the tip, and enables you to make good connections. When sol-
der rolls off the tip, it needs cleaning.
•Thin raisin-core solder. Do not use any flux or grease.
•A diagonal cutter to trim excess wires. To avoid injury
when cutting excess leads, hold the lead so they can-
not fly towards the eyes.
•Needle nose pliers, for bending leads, or to hold components in place.
•Small blade and phillips screwdrivers. A basic range is fine.
For some projects, a basic multi-meter is required, or might be
handy

•RPT and STRT must not be connected during message recording.
Hook-up of two or more units :
•Mount JR and JE on the last module
•Mount JC on the other module(s)
•For message auto-repeat, connect RPT of the last module with STRT of
the first module.
•During replay, a ‘click’ sound is heard at switchover between two units.
•If 5 or more units are put in cascade, the voltage regulator (VR1) of the
first unit needs to be cooled with a small heatsink.

How to record a message :
•Put SW1 in the position ‘RECORD’
•LD1 lights
•Press SW2 to record
•Releasing SW2 will end the recording session
•LD2 lights when the memory is full
How to replay a message :
•Put SW1 in the position ‘PLAY’
•Press SW2 briefly. (Do not continue to press SW2, it will lock-up the unit)
•The message will be played, and will end automatically
Optional rotary switch :
•Add this switch to divide the recording time in 5 blocks.
•Select a block by turning the switch to the desired position
•Each block can have a different length
