Pan-and-
Tilt Drives.
This equipment must be installed in con-
formance with national, state, and local
electrical codes.
The
V3030APT
and
V3030APT-SB
Pan-and-Tilt
Drives are light-duty indoor units designed
specifically for use with CCD cameras. Both
offer
autopan
operation and have user-
adjustable pan limit-stops. All wiring to the
camera and lens is concealed to eliminate wire
fatigue caused by autopan operation and
provides an uncluttered appearance. A
built-
in connector is supplied for use with motorized
lenses. Both units are capable of handling
loads up to 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg) and are
constructed almost entirely of high-strength
plastic.
The
V3030APT
is designed with a IO-inch
(25 cm) integral wall mount styled to com-
plement the pan-and-tilt. The
V3030APT-SB
is equipped with a square mounting base for
installations not requiring the use of an
integral wall mount or where inverted in-
stallation is needed.
INSTALLATION
MOUNTING THE

CAMERA/LENS MOUNTING
1. Mount the lens onto the camera according
to instructions in the appropriate manual.
2. Remove the camera mounting bracket from
the tilt arm by loosening the captive
screw on the bottom of the tilt arm and
lifting the bracket. It may be necessary
to raise the tilt arm for better access to
the captive screw. Refer to Figure 2.
3. Locate the center of gravity of the
camera/lens combination by placing it on a
pencil and positioning it so that the unit
balances on the pencil. This point is the
center of gravity. Use the camera
mounting hole closest to this balance
point.
4. Mount the camera/lens unit to the camera
mounting bracket with the l/4-20 bolt
supplied. Make sure that the rear of the
camera is positioned away from the tilt
arm pivot and that the center of balance
is as near as practical to the tilt arm
pivot.
NOTE: When the square-base version is being
A
mounted in an inverted position, the
camera must be mounted facing the opposite
end of the tilt arm. In this case, the
video and power cables should be routed
out the side of the tilt arm through the
holes provided near the pivot. Refer to
CAMERA MOUNTING

&
CAMERA
Figure 2. Also, tilt-up/tilt-down, and
pan-left/pan-right control connections
must be reversed on the PCB.
5. Position the camera mounting bracket on
the tilt arm and tighten the captive screw.
WIRING THE CAMERA/LENS
1. Attach the BNC connector from the pan-and-
tilt to the BNC connector on the camera.
2. Connect the power cable from the pan-and-
tilt to the camera. This could require
wiring directly to the camera power
terminals or installing the appropriate
camera power connector supplied with the
camera.
Connections for a motorized lens are made
through the connector at the pivot end of the
tilt arm (Figure 2). The connector is designed
to allow wiring without stripping the cable.
3. Cut the cable from the motorized lens to
the appropriate length and remove the
outer jacket. It is not necessary to strip
the insulation from the individual wires.
4. Lay the connector on a hard surface with
the open side facing up, as shown in
Figure 3. (The open side of the connector
will face down when the connector is
inserted into the mating connector on the
tilt base.)
Figure 2

5. Note how the “teeth” on the special tool
supplied fit into the metal contacts in
the connector before actually inserting
any wires into the connector.
6. Press the wires firmly into the connector
as shown in Figure 3 using the special
tool.
NOTE: When pressing the wires firmly into the
connector, make sure the wire is positioned
all the way down into the slot and the
insulation crimp has been made around the
wire. It may be helpful to tap the tool with
an object such as a screwdriver handle.
7. Plug the mating connector into the fixed
connector.

OPERATION
The pan, tilt, and
autopan
functions of the
V3030APT
and
V3030APT-SB
are controlled
remotely with a suitable pan-and-tilt control.
NOTE: If the operator continues to press the
pan-and-tilt control after the unit has
reached a pan limit-stop, a slight vibration
will be observed on the monitor screen. This
does not harm the unit, but Vicon recommends
that pressure on the control be released once
the limit-stop has been reached.
MAINTENANCE
Under normal operating conditions, the
V3030APT
and
V3030APT-SB
require no
maintenance. Always check external equip-
ment, cables, and connectors before trouble-
shooting. See Wiring Diagram and Parts
