Connecting
Speakerstoamplifier
Connectthespeakersandsubwooferasshownbelow.Usethelonger,8metrecablesfortherearsatellites,andtheshorter,2metrecablesforthe
frontspeakersandthesubwoofer.
Onallspeakers,connecttheall-blackcablestotheblack(-)terminals, andthecableswiththewhitestripetothered(+)terminals.
ThesubwooferconnectstotheSubterminal.Alltheotherspeakersarethesame,soyoucanconnectanyspeakertoanyofthefrontright,front left,
rearrightorrearleftterminals.
Note:Afterconnectingthe
subwoofer,makesureyoucan
placeitonthe floor as this is
whereitperformsbest.

Sourcetoamplifier
YoucanconnectuptothreesourcestoSiroccoCrossfire:onefull
3Dpositionalorsurroundsoundsource,andtwostereosources.
3D or surround sound
Source1 is the3Dsoundsource.Thiscouldbe a PCwitha4-
channelaudiocardfor3Dpositionalsound,suchas
VideoLogic’sSonicVortex2,orahomecinemasurroundsound
decodersuchasVideoLogic’sDigiTheatreDecoder.

YoucanconnectaPCsoundcardusingthecablessupplied.

Nowconnectthedecoder’sLowFrequencyEffects(LFE)
outputtoSiroccoCrossfire’sAC-3LFEinput,asshownin

Youcannowsetyourdecodertocreateaphantomcentre
channel,forafour-speakerplussubwooferhometheatre
system.Alternatively,youcanuseasignalsplittertosplityour
decoder’scentrechannelintotwomonochannelsand
connectdirectlytoyourTV’sstereoinput,anduseyourTV’s
speakersasthecentrespeakerforfullsurroundsound.Refer
toyourTV’sdocumentationtoseeifyoucandothis.
•ToconnectforDolbyProLogic, youcanconnectthespeakers
anduseaphantomchannelorTVspeakersasdescribed
aboveforDolbyDigital.Alternatively,youcantakeadvantage
ofDolbyProLogic’smonosurroundchannel,byconnecting
onespeakeronlytoasurroundchannel,twospeakerstothe
frontleftandrightchannels,andonespeakertocentre.Refer
toyourdecoder’sdocumentationtoseeifyoucandothis.
Stereo sound
StereosourcesconnecttoInputs2and3.
•Input2isforconnectingfull-sizedunitsthatusetwo RCA
phonoleadssuchasCDplayers,MiniDiscplayersoranalog
cassetteplayers,asshowninFigure3.Input2’ssensitivityis
optimisedtoallowforthehigheroutputofmostCDplayers.
•Input3,atthefrontoftheamplifier,isforconnectingunits
thatusea3.5mmstereojackoutput,suchasportableCD
playersorMiniDiscplayers,asshowninFigure4.
Amplifiertopower
Makesuretheamplifierisoffatthepowerswitch,andthatthe
volumeisturneddownatthefrontoftheamplifier(fullyanti-
clockwise).Connectthepowerleadtothepowersocketonthe
backoftheamplifier,andswitchonthepowerswitch.

Positioning
General
Herearesomegeneralrulesofthumbyoucanuseforpositioning
SiroccoCrossfire’sunits.Theyareonlyrecommendations–the
keywordis‘experiment’,untilyouhaveaset-upandasound
youlike.
Amplifier
Theamplifierfitsneatlyontopofthesubwoofer,butifyouwantto
placeitsomewhereelse,makesureit iswell-ventilated.Trytoput
itonahard,evensurfacesuchasyourdesk,orahi-fistand.
Take specialcare tomakesurethe ventilationholes at thetop
andbottom arenot obstructed.If youobstructthese holesyou
maycause theamplifier tooverheat, whichcould damageit
andinvalidate yourwarranty.
Satellites
3D positional sound
WhenusingSiroccoCrossfirewithaPCfor3Dgaming,arrange
thespeakerssothattheyformasquarearoundyou,withyouin
themiddle,asshowninFigure5opposite.Ifpossible,trytohave
thespeakersatyourheadheightasyouareseated.
AsshowninFigure6opposite,ifyouareplacingthefront
speakersoneithersideofyourmonitor,trytokeepthesatellites
levelwithorinfrontofthemonitor,butnotfurtherbackbecause
thenthemonitormaydisruptthe3Daudioeffect.TheSirocco
Crossfiresatellites aremagneticallyshieldedsothey willnot
damageyourmonitoriftheyareplacednexttoit.
Surround sound
IfyouwanttouseSiroccoCrossfirewithasurroundsounddecoder,
suchasVideoLogic’sDigiTheatreDecoder,positionthespeakers
accordingtothedocumentationincludedwiththedecoder.
Stereo
IfyouwanttolistentomusicwithSiroccoCrossfire,experiment
withmovingthesatellitesfurtherawayfromthemonitorto
enhancethestereoeffect. Youcanalsolistentostereosurround
usingtheQuadswitch,asexplainedinthenextsection.
Subwoofer
Lowfrequenciesarenon-directional,soyoucanplacethe
subwoofervirtuallyanywhereyouwant.Generallytheclosera
subwooferistothewallsorfloor,themorebassitwillgenerate.
Werecommendplacingitonthefloor.
Afterplacingthesubwoofer,youcanadjusttheamountofbass
withtheSubcontrolontheamplifier.Forthebestresults,make
surethebassreflexport(theholeatthefrontofthesubwoofer)
isn’tobscured.

Sub increases or decreases

Fade balances the sound between the
front and rear speakers.Turn it anti-
clockwise to fade to the rear, clockwise
to fade to the front.
Source selects which source you want to use.
•If you’re using a PC for 3D positional gaming, or a surround sound decoder for home
cinema, select source 1.
•If you’re using a full-size unit, such as a CD player, select source 2.
•If you’re using a line-level device that has a 3.5mm jack output, such as a portable CD
or MiniDisc player, select Source 3. This is where you plug in
your headphones.When
you insert the
headphone jack, the
speakers are muted. Note
that, if you are using
headphones, you should
set the 3D positional
sound algorithm on your
sound card for
headphones.
For the stereo sources (2 and 3), the Quad
switch duplicates the signal from the front
speakers to the rear speakers, so that you
can hear stereo surround through two sets
of stereo speakers.
Source 3 is connected via the socket at the front of the
amplifier. Use this for any line-level device that uses a
3.5mm jack, such as a portable CD or MiniDisc player.
Usingtheamplifier

Solvingtheproblem
Thesearesomeofthemostlikelyreasonsforproblemsyoumight
havewithSiroccoCrossfire.
Ican’tgetanysound.
Makesurethattheamplifierandaudiosourceare:
•switchedon.
•connectedproperly.
•producingsound.Listenthroughheadphonestoconfirmthis.
IfyouhaveconnectedSiroccoCrossfiretoaPCsoundcard,make
suretheWindowsvolumecontrolisn’tsettomute,bydouble-
clickingthespeakericononyourWindowstaskbar.
Makesureallthecablesareproperlyconnected.
Thesoundhastoo muchortoolittlebass.
AdjusttheSubcontrolontheamplifier.
Ifyouraudiosourcehastonecontrols,setthemtoneutral.
Ifyouhavetoolittlebass,makesurethebassreflexport (thehole
atthefrontofthesubwoofer)isn’tobscured.
Makesurethesubwooferandsatellitesareproperlyconnected.
Thereissound,butitisveryquiet.
MakesuretheVolumecontrolontheamplifierisn’tsettoolow.
Ifyoursourcehasavolumecontrol,makesureitisn’tsettoolow.
Makesuretheaudiosourceisproperlyconnected.
IfyouhaveconnectedSiroccoCrossfiretoaPCsoundcard,make
suretheWindowsvolumecontrolisn’tsettoolow,bydouble-
clickingthespeakericononyourWindowstaskbar.
Audiosoundsdistorted.
Ifyoursourcehasavolumecontrol,makesureitisn’tsettoohigh.
Makesureyouareusingaline-levelaudiosource,andthatthe
signalisn’tbeingamplifiedbeforeitconnectstotheamplifier.
Makesureallthecablesareproperlyconnected.
Oneofthe speakersisn’tworking.
Youmayhavepushedthespeakercablesofarintothesocketat
thebackofthespeakeroramplifierthatthesocketcontactswith
thecable’sinsulatingjacketratherthanthemetalconnector.Pull
thecableoutuntilyouaresurethereisametal-to-metalcontact.
Icanhearbass effects whilelisteningtomusic
onsource2or3.
Youmayberunningyoursurroundsoundsourcewiththelow
frequencyeffects(LFE)channelstillactive.Eitherswitchoffthe
surroundsoundsource,pauseit,orstopit
Onlythefront speakersareworking,oronlythe
rearspeakersareworking.
Ifjustthefrontspeakersareworking,youmaybeusingstereo
Inputs2or3withtheQuadswitchout,oryoumayhavesetthe
Fadecontrolfullyclockwiseforfrontspeakersonly.
Ifjusttherearspeakersareworking,youmayhavesettheFade
controlfullyanti-clockwiseforrearspeakersonly.
Oneofthe satellitesisnotproducingsound.
Thiscouldbeaproblemwiththesatellite,theaudiosourceor
theamplifier.
Gothroughthesestepstofindoutwhich:
1. Swaptheleftand rightphonoleadsatthebackofthe
amplifier,forthestereopair(frontorrear).
Ifthesatelliteremainsdead,goto step2.
Ifthesatellitesswaptoo,thatis,thedeadsatellitebecomes
liveand the live satellitegoesdead,theproblemiswiththe
audiosourceorthecables,somakesurethesourceisworking
andthatthecablesareproperlyconnected.
2. Replacethephonoleadsastheywereonthebackofthe
amplifier.Nowswapalltherightsatellitecablesonthebackof
theamplifier withalltheleftsatellite cables.
Ifthesatelliteremainsdead,theproblemiswiththesatellite.
Ifthesatellitesswaptoo,thatis,thedeadsatellitebecomes
liveand the livesatellitegoesdead,thenthe problem iswith
theamplifier.
