OVERVIEW
The most common method of installing the VU-PRO projector lift is to suspend it on four 3/8 diameter
threaded rods, from any convenient overhead support. Vertical alignment and leveling is accomplished by
individual adjustment of the threaded rods. Horizontal stability may be accomplished by guy wires or
from contact with the framing around the opening for the projector lift. The overhead support can often be
adapted from the existing building structure, or, if necessary, constructed specially for this purpose.
However constructed, the support must be capable of sustaining at least four times the following loads:
Model VT08X 35 lbs. + Projector Weight
Model VT11X 45 lbs. + Projector Weight
It is important to remember that this will be a continuous dead weight for the life of the installation. The
solidity, or rigidity, of the support structure must be sufficient to support this load without a slow
movement, or relaxation, over time.
Following are the primary steps involved in the planning and completion of a standard installation.
MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
A - DETERMINE PROJECTOR LOCATION
The location of the ceiling opening will depend on the projector being used.
Projectors equipped with a zoom lens can focus the intended image size through a range of distances of
several feet variation. For this reason, the exact distance of the projector lens to the screen surface need
only be held within the particular focus range specified by the projector manufacturer for the intended
screen size.
For projectors with a fixed focal lens, the exact distance of the projector lens to the screen surface
becomes much more critical. The projector will have a short range of fine focus adjustment, and the final
installation must end up with the projector located within this range. It is important to know what this
range is, so that you will have a feel for how critical the projector location actually is.
Focus distance, or throw distance, is usually specified by the manufacturer as the horizontal distance, face
of the projector lens to the face of the screen. Sometimes it is expressed as the downward angled, straight-
line distance, from the center of the lens to the center of the projected image. Since these two measures
are different, it is important to know which you are working with, before laying out the job.
Once the exact location of the ceiling opening has been established. Refer to the specification sheet at the
end of this manual and ensure that there is sufficient headroom above the opening to receive the projector
lift.
Inspect the existing structure above this spot to see if any modifications are required for adequate support
of the finished system. If a support framework needs to be built, observe the physical arrangement of the
projector lift, and be sure to leave satisfactory access for inspection, maintenance and electrical hookup.

B - HANGING THE PROJECTOR LIFT
The VU-PRO projector lift is designed to mount recess into the ceiling, supported by four 3/8 diameter
threaded rods (not supplied) - see specification sheet. Dimension SP on the specification sheet is based
upon the 3/4 inch thick ceiling closure panel shipped with the unit.
NOTE: Optionally, installers may replace the ceiling closure panel with existing ceiling materials. An
example is a dropped ceiling material. The new ceiling closure panel must equal or larger than
the ceiling closure panel supplied.
If the new ceiling closure panel is thicker than 3/4 inch, adjust the SP dimension by the difference of the
two panels.
Each 3/8 diameter threaded rod should be secured by a pair of hex nuts as shown in Figure 1. The nuts
should be adjusted such that all four rods are sharing the load roughly equally, then the pairs tightened
against each other to securely lock the connection.
Determine the location for the projector lift, and
install per the following guidelines:
¾Remove the ceiling closure panel and the
projector mounting plate to allow access
from the bottom – see 3D drawing.
¾The lift should be level, with weight shared
roughly equally by the four threaded rods.
¾It is recommended that the supporting
structure be able to carry at least four times
the total weight of the lift, including
projector weight.
¾Access to control box should be provided in
case service is required. Optionally, the
control box can be rewired and relocated to a different location. Refer to the wiring diagram at the
end of this manual.
¾Attach safety cables to the outer frame of the unit, and secure the cables to any nearby attachment
point that will be strong enough to catch the lift if it should fall.
¾Do not use the lift to support other fixtures, such as lighting, fans, etc.
C - INSTALLING THE PROJECTOR
The lift should be hung prior to installing the projector. The next step is to make electrical connections to
the lift for operation. Referring to the Wiring Diagram, review the wiring diagram carefully and make
connections as required.
Lower the lift to the fully down position. Remove the projector mounting plate (3D drawing) if it wasn’t
removed. The projector mounting plate is located on the center of the traveling platform.
Determine the location of the projector and the mounting brackets (not supplied) onto the projector
mounting plate. Attach the projector mounting brackets to the projector mounting plate.
Note: The projector mounting brackets must have roll, pitch and yaw adjustments built-in. The
projector lift does not have these features.

Reinstall the projector mounting plate to the lift. Attach the projector and reinstall the ceiling closure
panel.
CEILING CLOSURE PANEL ADJUSTMENTS
Referring to Figures 2a and 2b, the ceiling closure panel maybe adjusted to flush with the ceiling bottom.
The following steps describe the procedure.
Warning: It is important that regardless of how the ceiling closure panel has been set, the traveling
platform must trips the up direction shut-off switch when the lift retracted to the fully up
position. Failure to perform this check will reduce the motor’s life expectancy and void
warranty.
Note: When the ceiling closure panel closed either 1/2 inch lower or higher than the ceiling bottom,
adjustments must be done by the four suspended threaded rods.

Lift partially retracted Lift fully retracted
1. Loosen the hex nuts on the upper side holding the slide brackets. Loosen the hex nuts of the ceiling
control bolts.
2. Retract the lift to the fully up position. Manually level the ceiling closure panel and determine the
amount of adjustment require to make it flush with the ceiling bottom.
3. Send the lift down. Move the slide brackets and ceiling control bolts according to the amount of
adjustment recorded. Fingers tighten the hex nuts of the slide brackets and ceiling control bolts.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the ceiling closure panel becomes flush with the ceiling bottom.
5. Tighten all hex nuts of the slide brackets and ceiling control bolts.
Caution: If the ceiling control bolts are set incorrect, the traveling platform may not trips the up
direction shut-off switch.
