1.1 Notes for operational safety
The machine is carefully designed and safe.
Nevertheless, hazards may arise from the machine.
•If the machine is not used as intended.
•If the machine is used for an improper application.
•If the machine is operated under impermissible conditions.
For this reason, take note of the instructions in the following sections so that
you can work safely and enjoyably.

1.2 Instructions for use
Take note of the following points when handling the machine.
•If you are pregnant, let someone help you when assembling and
moving the machine.
•When unpacking, ensure that the you choose a secure surface to
unpack the machine safely.
•Keep animals and objects away from the area around the sewing
machine.
•Always operate the machine on a sturdy, clean and level surface.
•Keep children away from the machine.
•Keep animals and objects away from the area around the ‹foot
control›.
•Exchange defective or damaged parts of the machine immediately. Use
only original spare parts!
•Exchange needles regularly. Worn or damaged needles pose a hazard.
•Spare parts and tools must comply with the technical requirements laid
down by the manufacturer. This is always assured in the case of orig-
inal spare parts.
•Perform maintenance work in the manner described in this manual.
•Respect the intervals for recurring maintenance work.
•Rectify faults only when the machine is switched off. In addition, unplug
the ‹power plug›.
•Never change, dismantle or bypass the safety measures.
•Never deactivate the safety measures.
•Never undertake constructional changes to the machine.
•Never use the machine in the open air where it is exposed to the
elements.
•In the event of a malfunction switch the machine off immediately.
•W6 WERTARBEIT offers frequent sewers an annual inspection (at the
owner’s expense). Normal use indicates that an inspection should be
performed every two to four years.

1.3 After sewing
Please perform the following task after sewing:
•Clean the machine and remove small pieces of thread, lint or dust.
•Switch off the machine.
•Always unplug the ‹power plug›.
•Set the machine down in such a manner that it cannot fall.
•Keep the machine out of reach of children and animals.
•Exchange needles regularly. Worn or damaged needles pose a hazard.
1.4 Tips for a long-life span
To ensure a long service life, take note of the following items:
•Do not expose the machine to direct sunlight, moisture or high levels of
humidity.
•Clean the machine regularly. Perform these tasks thoroughly and at
least once a year. In the event of increased use, more frequently.
•When cleaning the machine, use only dry or damp cloths.
•Never use benzine, thinners or other chemical agents for the purposes
of cleaning.
•Do not subject the machine to strong vibrations.
•Based on its design the machine is not intended for commercial use.
•Allow it to be inspected by a W6 workshop (this may result in additional
costs).
•Frequent sewers should send the machine in for an annual inspection
while an inspection every 2 to 4 years should be sufficient for normal
use.

1.5 What we expect from you
Specific knowledge and skills are required when working with this machine.
•You should be confident when working with the machine.
•You must have read and understood this manual.
•Always have a clear head when working with the machine.
•Never work with the machine when under the influence of alcohol or
drugs.
•Take note of the package insert when taking medication.
•If you are pregnant, let someone help you when assembling and
moving the machine.
•Do not dismantle the machine - rather leave this to a trained specialist.
However, please keep in mind that you must perform basic mainte-
nance activities yourself.
•You are personally suited to operate the sewing machine.
•In case of doubt, always contact our Service Department. To do so,

•Allow only an authorised workshop to work on electrical components.

2 Assembling the Machine
This chapter contains information regarding how to set up the machine:

2.1 Unpacking
You are responsible for shipping the machine for inspection or repair to a
specialist workshop. To avoid any damage, please send the machine in its
original packaging. We therefore recommend that the packaging material,
including Styropor, be stored. In this case, ensure that all packaging mate-
rial is stored beyond the reach of children.
DANGER
There is a risk of suffocation
On delivery, the machine is packed in a plastic bag. There is a risk of suffo-
cation for children who play with it.
►Cut up the plastic bags.
►Take care that children do not play with the packaging material.
CAUTION
The machine is supplied with a needle installed
There is a risk of being pricked by the needle.
►Take care of the needle when unpacking.
Carry out the following steps:
1. Unpack the machine on a suitable surface.
2. Cut up all plastic bags that are supplied with the machine.
3. Store the packaging material in a secure place beyond the reach of chil-
dren.
!Should you wish to dispose of it, do not simply throw the packaging
material away but send it for recycling.

2.2 Setting up
When setting up, please pay attention to the following points:
•The supporting surface must be sturdy, non-slip and of adequate size.
•There is adequate illumination for work.
•Its position ensures a convenient and ergonomically sound posture
when working.
•It is placed beyond the reach of children and animals.
•It is not placed in direct sunlight.
• It is not exposed to high levels of humidity or moisture.
•It idoes not stand next to heaters or other sources of heat.
2.3 Connecting the machine
Prerequisite:
•The power cord is undamaged.
•There are no heavy object on the cord.
•The cable is not exposed to high temperatures.
•The mains voltage is 230 Volt.
DANGER
Danger to life posed by electrical shock
The sewing machine operates at low voltage. Improper connection poses
the risk of an electrical shock.
►Use only an easily accessible power socket as a power source.
►Do not operate multiple devices from a single power socket. There is a
risk of an overload.
►Do not pull the plug out of the socket with wet hands.
►Do not plug the plug into the socket with wet hands.
►Do not pull the power plug from the socket by the power cable.

Carry out the following steps:
1. Plug the ‹power plug› into the jack of the sewing machine.
2. Plug the ‹foot controller plug› into the jack of the foot controller.
3. Plug the ‹power plug› into the power socket.

4. Set the ‹on and off switch› to the “
I
“ (ON) position.
▼The machine is switched on.
▼The lighting is switched on.
?The machine does not sew?
The machine is not connected correctly.
►Switch the machine off again.
►Check all plug connections.
5. Pull out the ‹extension table› to the left in order to use the machine for
freehand sewing, such as trouser legs.

6. Slowly press the ‹foot controller›, to start sewing.
!The further the ‹foot controller› is pressed, the faster the machine
sews.
Alternatively, you can also sew without the foot controller. Start and
stop the sewing machine by means of the ‹Start-Stop› button. Try it,
you’ll be thrilled!
7. Release the ‹foot controller›, when you wish to stop sewing.
8. Set the ‹on and off switch› to the “
0
” (OFF), to switch off the machine.
» The machine is connected.
2.4 Unplugging the power plug
In the following situations you should switch the machine off at the ‹on and
off switch› and pull the plug out of the socket:
•If the machine is going to remain unsupervised.
•If you exchange the needle or spool.
•If you remove the covers.
•If a power failure occurs during use.
•In the event of a storm.

You must not sew with the foot controller. It is preferable from an ergo-
nomic point of view and easier on the back to work without the foot
controller. Start and stop the sewing machine by means of the ‹Start-Stop›
button. In addition, set a suitable speed by means of the speed controller.
Try it, you’ll be thrilled!
