1 Introduction
1.1 General Information
This operating manual is provided for a safe operation of the “Walther Logic Valve Controller Mini“
(WLVCM). It contains safety instructions which must be strictly followed.
This documentation gives you an overview of function and provides information on:

According to the conditions laid down by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), Walther
Systemtechnik GmbH has a guarantee of 12 months under normal European operating conditions on
its own parts (spare parts are excluded); or according to the conditions of the manufacturer.
This guarantee can only be granted by Walther Systemtechnik GmbH, if:
•the user has thorough knowledge of the content of this operating manual;
•the user follows the instructions and notes contained in this operating manual;
•the user does not rebuild or make changes on parts of the device without prior consent of Walther
Systemtechnik GmbH.

2 Safety
2.1 General Information
The construction of this device is according to the latest technology and is absolutely reliable. The individual
components as well as the complete device are continuously checked by our quality management team.
2.2 Basic Safety Instructions
Basic conditions for a safe handling and a failure-free operation of the device are:
CAUTION
Danger through improper use
It is the customer’s responsibility that all relevant safety measures are followed.
The device will only be used for the designated purpose.
No changes will be made at the device. The customer carries the sole responsibility
for consequences resulting from failure to observe this guideline. Please contact
Walther Systemtechnik GmbH for any desired modifications.
Make sure that the device is always in a safe operational condition. Checks for
proper function or damages have to be performed by specialists on a regular basis.
Dismounting will only be made by authorized personnel and while using the
operating manual. If requested, we will also offer trainings on the device in order to
teach your personnel the required knowledge.
Disconnect the device from compressed air / grease supply for all maintenance
tasks. All lines and hoses have to be pressure-less.
Check all lines, hoses and screwed joints regularly for leakages and apparent
damages! Repair damages immediately!
Always make sure that the actual workstation and the device are clean and clearly
arrange; and this is routinely checked.
Please observe the guiding rules and regulations for accident prevention at the
workplace.
2.3 Dangers from Using the Device
The construction of this device is according to the latest technology and is absolutely reliable. However,
there may be dangers for the user or third parties or other physical assets, if not used correctly.

The machine is only to be used for the intended purpose and in a safe and secure
condition.
Immediately correct failures, which can adversely affect safety and security!

Please instruct the operating personnel on the respective measures to be taken

2.4 Correct Use
CAUTION
The device will only be used under the designated operating conditions as outlined
in the offer and the confirmation of order. It was exclusively designed for certain
media in accordance with the detailed description. Any different or further use will be
regarded as incorrect. The manufacturer cannot be made liable for damages
resulting from incorrect use.
Any other use or use beyond this is considered as not in accordance with the
intended use. The manufacturer is not liable for damages resulting from improper
use.
In addition, it is essential that the operating personnel are familiar with the contents
of the operating instructions supplied.Observing and following all instructions of this
manual.
•The WLVCM can only be used as built-in device in a switch cabinet.
•Performing the inspection and routine maintenance tasks.
2.5 Incorrect Use

Any other use or use beyond this is considered improper use! The operator is
liable for any damage resulting from this. The operator bears the sole risk!
Non-intended use in the sense of a foreseeable misuse is considered to be
improper use:
•Operating the device with insufficient knowledge about the operation,
maintenance and care of the device
•Making changes, extensions or alterations on the device that may hamper its
safety without the prior consent of Walther Systemtechnik GmbH.
•Operating the device with defective safety installations or not properly attached
or malfunctioning safety devices.
•Using unsuitable materials.
•Handling the device while energized.
•
Processing aggressive media (e.g. acids, alkaline solutions, detergents,
chemicals, etc.) or media which
have not been approved in writing by the
manufacturer.
•Making changes in the software of the controls.

2.6 Qualification of personnel and personal protective equipment
CAUTION
Danger through improper use
•The WLVCM can cause hazards if it is used by untrained personnel
inappropriately or for purposes other than its intended use.
•In all phases of life, work may only be carried out by trained and instructed
personnel.
•The responsibility of the personnel for all phases of life shall be clearly defined
by the operator.
•The necessary personal protective equipment (e.g. safety goggles according to
workplace safety regulations) must be provided by the operator and must be
worn.
•Check all existing safety devices regularly.
These operating instructions are intended for different target groups. Individual chapters are therefore
withheld from a specific target group and noted accordingly in the following table. Only this target group
is authorized to carry out the corresponding activities. The remaining content is generally valid for all
target groups and is not repeated.

3 Transport
3.1 Packaging
The device will be prepared by Walther Systemtechnik GmbH for a transport to the first destination.
The type of packaging depends on the individual mode of shipping. If not separately contracted, the
packaging is in accordance with the rules and regulations of Walther Systemtechnik GmbH. This rule is
in accordance with the Federal Association for Packaging HPE.
The packing unit will not be exposed to any additional strain. Packaging and contents will be protected
against any kind of humidity. The temperature for transport and storage will strictly range between –
20°C and + 40°C.
3.2 Transport
The actual transport of the device and its individual parts requires special care in order to prevent
damages from external forceful impact or careless on- and off-loading. Depending on the mode of
transportation, suitable transport and load securing has to be selected. The device will be aligned and
leveled by appropriate fastening elements.
3.3 Damages in Transport
The following will be observed when the receiving checks reveal damages in transport:
•Contact the carrier (carrier, train etc.)
•Write a protocol of damages
•Contact the supplier
3.4 Location of Set-up
•All legal requirements for the mounting site should be clarified and fulfilled.
•Prior to installation of the equipment, the condition of the floor and the size of the surrounding
space should be checked to ensure safety of operation for both personnel and equipment. The
installation must be such that continuous operation at a high safety level is ensured.
•The installation of the equipment as well as commissioning or storage of the equipment must be
conducted by specialists that are trained and made familiar with the equipment only.
•The equipment is designed for use in areas which are protected from climatic conditions.
•Operation or storage of the equipment in an aggressive or moist environment or outdoors may lead
to corrosion or other damage for which Walther Systemtechnik GmbH will not assume liability.
•All exposed parts and lines must be mounted as such that no injuries or damage can occur
•The minimum allowed space around the device will be closely observed.

4 Description of the Product
4.1 General Information
The Walther Logic Valve Controller Mini (WLVCM) is a digital real-time control unit for the direct
operation of electro-pneumatic spray, dosing or pulse valves from Walther Systemtechnik GmbH. Above
that, the WLVCM allows the operation of hotplates from Walther Systemtechnik GmbH which can be
optionally added to the employed spray, dosing or pulse valves.
In combination with a superordinate control unit, the WLVCM can be operated via digital control signals.
The configuration tool WLVCM enables an easy operation and start-of-operation of the WLVCM. In
addition, the graphic displays and pictograms allow an intuitive parametering and start-of-operation.

IMPORTANT
The WLVCM can only be used as a built-in device in a switch cabinet.
Installation position is horizontal with the electrical interfaces [W4], [W5] and [W6]
facing upwards.
Mounting clearance:
Make sure that there is a clearance to other assembly groups of 40 cm above and
below the device in order to guarantee an optimum cable conduct.
The WLVCM comes with a fixing unit on the back for mounting on DIN profiled rails. The WLVCM will
be horizontally installed on the profiled rail using the fixing unit. Please refer to the below figure 1 for the
dimensions which have to be considered.

6 Electrical Installation
6.1 Device Overview
Besides the function-relevant electrical interfaces W1 to W7 (see also chapter 6.2.1), the WLVCM also
has an optical interface O1 which consists of eight LEDs and displays the current system status on the
front of the WLVCM for the user (see also chapter 6.2.2). Figure 2 gives you an overview of these
interfaces.

The below table 1 gives you an overview of the WLVCM electrical interfaces. Chapters 6.2.1.1 to 6.2.1.7
provide details on the individual interfaces and their function.

for electrical connection:
•Only use shielded cables for connecting the valve technology!
•In general, signal cables will be laid separately from the energy cables!
•Make sure that lines are always laid straight, never in a ring!
•The environment is very important for the signal transfer. Frequency converters
or other users can significantly influence the signal transfer!
6.2.1.1 Interface W1 „Supply Voltage“
A 24 V voltage source is required for operating the WLVCM and its electronics. It will be connected to
the clamps +24 V and 0 V at the electrical interface „W1“.

6.2.1.2 Interface W2 „Component Connection“
Table 3 gives you an overview of the clamps at the electrical interface W2 “component connection“.
Depending on their individual documentation, the electro-pneumatic valves will be connected to the
clamps „Valve +“ or „Valve –“ (see also figure 3).
Also, you can control additional hotplates with the WLVCM; they can be mounted at the valve body.
Make sure to connect the contacts of the heating element as shown in figure 3 in order to achieve a
smooth and proper operation. Use the “Heater” clamp as positive connecting clamp for the heating
element. The negative contact of the heating element can be connected to a random clamp “GND_x“
(e.g. clamp “GND“ to Pin2 or „GND_2“ to Pin 8).

6.2.1.3 Interface W3 „Status“
The electrical interface W3 has three digital outlet clamps which are described below and which are
used to display the current status of the WLVCM (see also table 4). Each of the clamps at Pins 9, 10
and 11 indicates its status through the two signal levels LOW and HIGH. When signal level LOW is
shown, the measurable voltage at the clamp is 0 VDC. For signal level HIGH, the voltage is +24 VDC.

The digital outlet clamp “Finished“ shows the status of the application process. If an application process
is started by a superordinate control unit (see also chapter 6.2.1.6), the “Finished” signal will change
from signal level HIGH to LOW. When the application cycle is finished, the signal level will change from
LOW to HIGH again (see also examples of signal curves in chapter 9).
When a malfunction occurs, the “Error” digital outlet clamp will indicate a HIGH signal level. The signal
level will remain even if the malfunction has been corrected and has to be confirmed by the “Reset”
signal (see also chapter 6.2.1.4).
The “Ready“ digital outlet clamp indicates that the WLVCM is ready for operation. A HIGH signal level
at this outlet clamp tells you that the required temperature at the connected temperature sensor (if
present) has been reached and that there is no malfunction on the WLVCM. The device is fully
operational and you can start an application process.
6.2.1.4 Interface W4 „Superordinate Control Unit“
The interface “superordinate control” comes with three digital inlets which are described below and
which allow you to control the WLVCM through a superordinate control unit. The individual digital inlets
will be active, if the superordinate control unit applies a HIGH signal level (+24 VDC). Applying a
potential of 0 VDC stands for a LOW signal level and will deactivate the function which is connected to
the respective digital inlet.

Use the “Reset” digital inlet clamp for confirming a malfunction (see also chapter 6.2.1.3) through a
signal change from LOW to HIGH.
You can save parameter configurations, so-called parameter sets, in the WLVCM; and these can be
activated through a superordinate control unit, using the two digital inlet clamps “MUX_1“ und “MUX_2“.
Hereby you will be able to perform different applications with different parameters with only one spray,
dosing or pulse valve. Please refer to chapter 8.4 for a detailed description of the various options.
Activating/selecting the four possible parameter sets is made according to Table 6.

6.2.1.5 Interface W5 „Temperature Sensor“
The clamps at interface W5 will be used for connecting a temperature sensor Type „PT100“. All Walther
Systemtechnik hotplates come with these temperature sensors by default. As already shown in figure
3, the temperature sensor will be connected at the “Temp“ and “GND_4“ clamps.

6.2.1.6 Interface W6 „Program Start“
Use the clamps at the W6 interface “Program Start“ for starting an application cycle with a previously
selected parameter set. For this purpose, a voltage of +24 VDC will be applied at the two potential-free
designed clamps „Start –„ and „Start +“. The application cycle will start directly when the signal changes
from LOW to HIGH. Depending on the selected triggering and the set operating mode (see chapter
8.4.8), the start signal can be reset to LOW after the actual signal change, or it has to stay on signal
level HIGH for the duration of the application process. In the latter case the duration of the application
process will be directly controlled via the HIGH signal level of the “Start“ signal. Please see chapter 8
for sample curves when operating the WLVCM through a superordinate control unit.

6.2.1.7 Interface W7 „USB“
Parametering the WLVCM will be made through the USB interface. Use it to connect the WLVCM to a
Windows-PC where you can run the configuration tool WLVCM. You will need a USB cable with a Type
B plug for connecting to the WLVCM.

6.3 WLVCM Overall System
Figure 4 shows a WLVCM complete system.
The following components are required for operating the freely programmable valve control unit:
Components:
•Power pack for voltage supply (24 VDC)
•Walther Logic Valve Controller Mini (WLVCM)
•Electro-pneumatic spray, dosing or pulse valve with coil cable
•Optional: a hotplate which is compatible with the valve
A Windows PC with USB connecting cable is required for parametering.
