measure, so we’ve made our Smile Babywearing Guide as simple
and stress-free as possible, enabling you to get on with the very
important business of bonding with your baby.

adventure and babywearing gives you and your evolving clan the freedom
to embark on this great exploration together.
Not only do you have a gorgeous newborn baby, but you are also the
proud owner of the Smile 5-in-1 baby sling – a revolution in design, comfort
and simplicity. Formerly known as theBabaSling®, this beautiful award-
winning, hammock-style sling is ideal for babies aged 0 to 24 months, and
is perfectly shaped to support a newborn’s developing spine. It’s easy to
use and fully adjustable to fit most body shapes or sizes. The Smile also
allows for discreet breastfeeding and, like all our products, it is made with
good conscience and an unflinching commitment to style, function and
above all, safety.

Before you begin, you need to choose on which shoulder you are going
to wear the sling and which carrying position you and baby are going to
use. If you are a woman, this will generally be the same shoulder upon
which you like to wear your handbag.
The Smile is fully adjustable to fit babies and wearers of different shapes
and sizes, and can be worn on either left or right shoulders. Depending
upon which shoulder you wear the sling will determine which rail becomes
the upper rail and which one becomes the lower rail. For example, if you
choose to wear the Smile on your right shoulder, adjust the left-hand side
of the looped adjustment strap by approximately 2in/5cm. This creates an
upper and a lower rail.
Alternatively, if you choose to wear the Smile on your left shoulder,
adjust the right-hand side of the looped adjustment strap by
approximately 2in/5cm.The principle being that the lower rail is always
longer than the upper rail because it has further across the body to go.
The looped adjustment strap is designed to tighten or loosen the two
rails independently.
When alternating shoulders, simply reverse the length of the upper and
lower rails accordingly.

Not everyone has the same body shape or size, so you will
need to loosen or tighten the looped adjustment strap to suit
you and baby. The Smile is cleverly designed
to allow you to safely adjust when wearing it.
To loosen the sling, simply lift up the large adjustment buckle
(DO NOT UNCLIP IT) and adjust the sling accordingly. To
tighten the sling and thus bring baby closer, simply pull one
side of the looped adjustment strap. You do not need to lift
up the large adjustment buckle to tighten the sling. To check
that the Smile is set up correctly for you, practise putting it
on WITHOUT baby first.
Ensure you understand the ‘burping position’ as it will be
referred to throughout our Smile Babywearing Guide. This
is the correct starting position before placing baby in the
Smile for each of the positions except the March Hare
(world-facing) and Side Saddle for older children. Simply
place baby as if to burp them – high up and slightly over
your shoulder.
Finally, the safety buckle and safety strap (which can be
found under the large adjustment buckle) is non-adjustable,
which gives you and baby extra piece of mind.

We recommend that you run through the following instructions
WITHOUT baby first. Familiarise yourself with the sling’s user-
friendly components and mechanisms, then practise each position.
When placing baby in the Smile for the first time, be sure you are
both calm, rested and fed. (We don’t want any tears or tantrums
from either of you!) This will make learning and experiencing the
Smile much easier, quicker and more enjoyable.
And if it doesn’t feel exactly right, simply start again and follow
all the instructions from the beginning. Practise will always make
perfect.
Please note. When adjusting the Smile and placing your
baby for the first time, you may wish to have someone assist you,
although this is not essential.

8. Assuming you are going to wear the Smile on
your left shoulder, hold the sling by the split-
padded shoulder strap in your left hand. Use
your right hand to adjust the right-hand side
of the looped adjustment strap. By pulling the
right-hand side of the looped adjustment strap by
approximately 2in/5cm, you create an upper and
a lower rail.
Please note. Always make sure that you hear
an audible click when fastening each buckle and
always fasten the safety buckle first.

9. Now put your right arm through
the sling.
10. Take the sling over your head.
11. Place the sling comfortably on
your left shoulder with the We Made
Me logo sitting just below your
collarbone and the split-padded
shoulder strap over the middle part
of your shoulder. For the time being,
keep the split-padded shoulder
strap together (see page 24).
12. To check the sling is set up
correctly for you, take the thumb
on your right hand and rest it on
the right-hand side of the sling.
Your thumb and the sling should be
touching the top of your hip. This
should be the right setting
for you.

strap is resting on your shoulder, and NEVER
up on your neck, as this will be uncomfortable.
14. If you need to loosen the sling, locate the
large adjustment buckle first.
15. Lift up the large adjustment buckle,
thereby releasing it (DO NOT UNCLIP IT)
and adjust the sling accordingly.
16. Double-check that the sling touches the
top of your hip.
17. If you need to tighten the sling, you can
bring the large adjustment buckle around to
your chest.
18. Lift up the large adjustment buckle,
thereby releasing it (DO NOT UNCLIP IT).

19. With your left hand, take hold of the looped
adjustment strap and tighten accordingly.
20. Then return the sling back over your shoulder.
21. Alternatively, you can also adjust the sling by
using your right hand to hold the sling and create
some resistance.
22. And use your left hand to lift up the large
adjustment buckle, thereby releasing it (DO NOT
UNCLIP IT).
23. Now take your right hand behind your back
and pull down on the looped adjustment strap
towards your right hip.
Right, now you’ve completed your preparation,
you’re ready to begin. And remember: once you’ve
got the knack of using the Smile, it really will
become second nature.

born prematurely or of low birth weight.

This lovely, supported, heart-to-heart position is
ideal for babies aged from 0 months until they
are either too big or too long (approximately 6
months), and can be used should you wish to
discreetly breastfeed baby.

Step 01. Attach
1. Put your Smile on. If it is on your left shoulder,
place baby in the ‘burping position’ high up on your
opposite shoulder.
2. Holding baby securely with your right hand, slide
your left hand across your body, underneath and
through the sling.
3. Whilst baby is resting on your shoulder, take hold
of both of baby’s little feet with your left hand.
4. And, whilst baby remains resting on your
shoulder, with your right hand, lift the upper rail up
to meet baby’s neck.
5. This fans out the body of the sling to support
baby.

Step 02. Embrace
1. Now you are going to place baby’s legs where you
want them to end up before you let go of them. With your left
hand, gently guide baby’s feet across your body and into the
sling above your right hip.
2. Baby can be quite high up in the sling. Heart-to-heart,
they should be close enough to ‘kiss the top of baby’s head’.
3. Now the upper rail can be positioned as a cushion to support
the back of baby’s neck.
4. Ensure baby’s head is not completely inside the sling.
5. Remember, baby can be quite high up in the sling. As a guide,
their feet should be lower than their head, with their little bottom or
back resting right in the middle of the sling in line with the pocket.
Do not pull the lower rail up between you and baby.

Step 03. Adjust
1–3. Pull the extra fabric from the pleats near the
pocket of the sling to support baby’s head.
4. Baby’s head and mouth should be clear from
any obstruction. To ensure baby’s chin is off their
chest, you should be able to rest two fingers under
their chin.
5. Baby should now be nicely positioned in the
sling. Notice the lovely curve their body makes.
It is safe to tighten the straps with baby in the sling.
Lift the weight of baby to make straps easier to
adjust.
If it doesn’t feel right, you can always adjust baby’s
position so you are both comfortable. Alternatively,
remove baby and try again.
The Easy Tiger position should feel as natural as if
you were cradling baby without the sling. In other
words, it simulates holding baby in your arms. And
what more could a baby wish for?
