2.1 Verwendungszweck
SOMNOsmart ®ist ein smartPAP-Gerät zur
Behandlung von schlafbezogenen Atmungs-
störungen.
• SOMNOsmart ®erzeugt einen „positi-
ven Atemwegs-Druck“ (Positive Airway
Pressure = PAP).
• SOMNOsmart ®ist ein selbstregulieren-
des Gerät. SOMNOsmart ®erkennt re-
spiratorische Ereignisse und variiert den
Atemwegsdruck entsprechend.
• Während des Schlafens werden die
Atemwege des Patienten durch den er-
zeugten Luftdruck geschient.
• Der Luftdruck wird über eine Nasalmaske
verabreicht.
• SOMNOsmart ®kann für Personen ab
einem Lebensalter von 12 Jahren einge-
setzt werden.
Wichtig!
SOMNOsmart ®verhindert den Verschluß der
Atemwege nur dann sicher, wenn die auf den
Patienten bezogene, vom Arzt verordnete un-
tere und obere Druckgrenze z.B. in einem
Schlaflabor ermittelt wurden.
SOMNOsmart ®ist nicht für den lebenserhal-
tenden Einsatz geeignet.

2. Description de l’appareil
2.1 Domaine d’utilisation
Le SOMNOsmart ®est un appareil de smart-
PAP utilisé pour le traitement des troubles res-
piratoires liés au sommeil.
• Le SOMNOsmart ®génère une pression
positive dans les voies respiratoires (Posi-
tive Airway Pressure = PAP).
• Le SOMNOsmart ®est un appareil à
autorégulation qui reconnaît les événe-
ments respiratoires et fait varier en consé-
quence la pression des voies aériennes.
• Pendant le sommeil, les voies respiratoi-
res du patient sont redressées par la pres-
sion de l’air ainsi créée.
• L’air comprimé est administré au moyen
d’un masque nasal.
• Le SOMNOsmart ®peut être utilisé sur
des sujets âgés de plus de 12 ans.
Important !
Le SOMNOsmart ®n’empêche l’occlusion des
voies respiratoires de manière sûre que si les
valeurs maxi et mini de la pression prescrite
individuellement au patient par le médecin ont
été déterminées dans un laboratoire de
sommeil.
Le SOMNOsmart ®n’est pas fait pour les inter-
ventions d´urgence visant à préserver la vie.
2. Description
2.1 Purpose
SOMNOsmart ®is a smartPAP appliance for
treating sleep-related respiratory disorders.
• SOMNOsmart ®creates a “Positive Air-
way Pressure” (PAP).
• SOMNOsmart ®is a self-regulating ap-
pliance. SOMNOsmart ®identifies respi-
ratory events and varies the respiratory
pressure accordingly.
• The air pressure generated supports the
patient’s air passages during sleep.
• The air pressure is administered through a
nasal mask.
• SOMNOsmart ®can be used for per-
sons aged 12 and over.
Important!
SOMNOsmart ®can prevent blockage of the
air passages reliably only if the upper and
lower pressure limits prescribed for the individ-
ual patient by a doctor have been determined
in, for example, a sleep laboratory.
SOMNOsmart ®is not suitable for life-support
use.

2.2 Funktionsbeschreibung
SOMNOsmart ®arbeitet nach dem Prinzip ei-
nes elektrisch betriebenen Flowgenerators, des-
sen konstantes Druckniveau elektronisch geregelt
wird.
Ein Oszillationsgenerator erzeugt eine kleine
pneumatische Sinusschwingung. Durch Auswer-
tung des Oszillationsdruckes kann eine Ände-
rung des Atemwiderstandes erkannt und der
Therapiedruck entsprechend erhöht oder verrin-
gert werden.
• Ein Radialgebläse saugt Umgebungsluft
über ein Filter an und befördert sie zum
Geräteausgang. Von hier strömt die Luft
durch das Schlauchsystem und die Na-
salmaske zum Patienten.
• Im Schlauchsystem 12 befindet sich ein
Doppelschlauch. Beide kleinen Schläu-
che werden direkt am Gerät angeschlos-
sen und reichen bis zum Schlauchende.
Der Oszillationsschlauch 11 leitet die Os-
zillation in die Nasalmaske. Über den
Druckmeßschlauch 9wird der Atemwegs-
und Oszillationsdruck erfaßt.
• Der aktuell gemessene Oszillationsdruck
wird mit einem gemittelten Wert und den
vorherigen Werten verglichen. Bei signi-
fikanten Abweichungen oder Änderun-
gen wird der Druck in der Nasalmaske
über den Flowgenerator entsprechend er-
höht oder verringert.
• Der Druck wird in der LC-Anzeige 18 an-
gezeigt. Der mikroprozessorgesteuerte
Flowgenerator regelt den Druck auf den
eingestellten bzw. neuen Wert und ver-
mindert Druckschwankungen, die durch
die Atmung entstehen.
• An SOMNOsmart ®kann eine Ein-/Aus-
schaltautomatik aktiviert werden. Das

cipe d’un générateur de débit à commande
électrique dont le niveau de pression constant
est régulé électroniquement.
Un générateur d’oscillations produit une petite vi-
bration sinusoïdale pneumatique. L’analyse de
la pression oscillatoire permet de déceler une
modification de la résistance respiratoire et
d’augmenter ou de diminuer la pression théra-
peutique en conséquence.
• Une soufflerie radiale aspire l’air ambiant
à travers un filtre et le transporte jusqu’à
la sortie de l’appareil. L’air traverse ensui-
te le système de tuyaux et le masque na-
sal pour arriver au patient.
• Un double tuyau se trouve dans le systè-
me de tuyaux 12. Les deux petits tuyaux
sont reliés directement à l’appareil et vont
jusqu’au bout du tube. Le tuyau 11 trans-
met l’oscillation dans le masque nasal. La
pression oscillatoire des voies aériennes
est déterminée au moyen du tuyau de me-
sure 9.
• La pression oscillatoire mesurée à cha-
que instant est comparée à une valeur
moyenne et aux valeurs mesurées précé-
demment. En cas d’écarts ou de modifi-
cations sensibles, la pression dans le
masque nasal est augmentée ou dimi-
nuée par le générateur de débit.
• La pression est visualisée sur l’écran à
cristaux liquides 18. Le générateur de dé-
bit piloté par microprocesseur régule la
pression à la valeur fixée/modifiée et ré-
duit les variations de pression imputables
à la respiration.
• Un système automatique de mise en mar-
che et d’arrêt peut être activé sur le

SOMNOsmart ®works on the principle of an
electrically powered flow generator, and deliv-
ers an electronically controlled constant pressure
level.
An oscillation generator produces a gentle pneu-
matic sine oscillation. By analyzing the oscilla-
tion pressure it is possible to detect changes in
the airway resistance and increase or reduce the
therapy pressure accordingly.
• A radial fan draws in ambient air through
a filter and delivers it to the outlet port.
From here the air flows through the hose
system and the nasal mask to the patient.
• The hose system 12 contains a double
tube. The two small tubes are connected
directly to the appliance and reach to the
end of the hose. The oscillation tube 11
takes the oscillation to the nasal mask.
The airway and oscillation pressure is
registered via the pressure measurement
tube 9.
• The current oscillation pressure reading is
compared with an averaged value and
the preceding values. If there is a signifi-
cant deviation or change, the pressure in
the nasal mask is increased or reduced
accordingly via the flow generator.
• The pressure is displayed in the LC dis-
play 18. The microprocessor-controlled
flow generator regulates the pressure to
the set value or new value and minimizes
pressure fluctuations due to breathing.
• An automatic ON/OFF switching system
can be activated in the SOMNOsmart ®.
This allows the appliance to be switched
on by breathing out into the mask. If there
is no pressure for about 15 seconds (e.g.
because the mask has slipped off during

ten Daten von bis zu 42 Therapienächten
werden in einem Ringspeicher aufge-
zeichnet. Das Auslesen und Analysieren
der Daten ist nur mit der Auswertesoft-
ware SOMNOsupport ® (Zubehör für
medizinisches Fachpersonal) möglich.

3. Sicherheitshinweise
Zu Ihrer eigenen Sicherheit sowie der Sicher-
heit Ihrer Patienten und nach den Anforderun-
gen des MPG (Medizinproduktegesetz)
beachten Sie bitte folgendes:
• Bitte lesen Sie diese Gebrauchsanwei-
sung aufmerksam durch. Sie ist Bestand-
teil des Gerätes und muß jederzeit
verfügbar sein.
• Benutzen Sie SOMNOsmart ®nur, wenn
Sie in die Behandlung von Schlafapnoen
und in die Gerätehandhabung eingewie-
sen sind.
• Verwenden Sie SOMNOsmart ®nur für
den beschriebenen Verwendungszweck
(siehe „2.1 Verwendungszweck“ auf
Seite 8).
• Beachten Sie die Netzspannung. Stellen
Sie den Spannungswahlschalter 28 ent-
sprechend auf 230 bzw. 115 V.
• Stellen Sie das Gerät bitte nicht in der
Nähe einer Heizung auf, da sich die
Atemluft und die Innenteile zusätzlich er-
wärmen können.
• SOMNOsmart ®muß so aufgestellt wer-
den, daß zwischen der Rückwand des
Gerätes und der Wand ein Abstand von
mindestens 5 cm ist.
• Bitte legen Sie kein eingeschaltetes Han-
dy näher als 1 m neben das
SOMNOsmart ®, da es sonst zu Fehl-
funktionen kommen könnte.
• Lassen Sie Inspektionen und Instandset-
zungsarbeiten nur durch den Hersteller
Weinmann oder sachkundiges Personal
durchführen.
• Werden das in der Gebrauchsanwei-
sung empfohlene Zubehör oder die Er-
satzteile durch Fremdartikel ersetzt, kann
es zu Einschränkungen der Funktion und
der Biokompatibilität kommen.
• Fremdfabrikatmasken dürfen nur nach
Genehmigung durch den Hersteller
Weinmann verwendet werden.

3. Consignes de sécurité
Pour votre propre sécurité, veuillez tenir comp-
te des points suivants :
• Lisez attentivement le présent mode d’em-
ploi. Il fait partie intégrante de l’appareil
et doit être disponible à tout moment.
• N’utilisez le SOMNOsmart ®que si vous
avez été formé au traitement des apnées
du sommeil et à la manipulation de cet
appareil.
• N’utilisez le SOMNOsmart ®qu’aux fins
auxquelles il a été conçu (voir „2.1 Do-
maine d’utilisation” à la page 9).
• Vérifiez la tension d’alimentation sur le
secteur. Placez, selon le cas, le sélecteur
de tension 28 sur la position 230 ou
115 V.
• N’installez pas le SOMNOsmart ®’ à
proximité d’un appareil de chauffage
afin d’éviter un échauffement supplémen-
taire de l’air inspiré et de l’intérieur du
système.
• Le SOMNOsmart ®doit être placé de

3. Safety
For your own safety please observe the follo-
wing points:
• Read these operating instructions careful-
ly. They are part of the appliance and
must be kept available at all times.
• Do not use the SOMNOsmart ®unless
you have received training in the treat-
ment of sleep apnea and in the use of the
appliance.
• Use SOMNOsmart ®for the designated
purpose only (see "2.1 Purpose" on
page 9).
• Make sure that the mains voltage is set cor-
rectly. Set the voltage selector 28 to 230
or 115 V, whichever is appropriate.
• Do not stand the appliance near heating
systems, as this can cause undue heating
of the air for breathing and of the internal
parts.
• SOMNOsmart ®must be set up with a
gap of at least 5 cm between the back of
the appliance and the wall.
• Do not place a switched-on cellphone
within 1 meter of the SOMNOsmart ®,
as it could interfere with the operation of
the appliance.
• Have all inspections and servicing work
carried out only by the manufacturer
(Weinmann) or expert personnel.
• Employing third-party components in-
stead of the accessories or spare parts
recommended in the operating instruc-
tions may have adverse effects on func-
tion or biocompatibility.
• Third-party masks may be used only after
approval by Weinmann.

3.1 Effets secondaires
Lors de l’utilisation du SOMNOsmart ®pen-
dant une courte ou une longue durée, il arrive
que soient observés les effets secondaires in-
désirables suivants :

• Rougeurs cutanées;
• Nez bouché;
• Nez desséché;

3.1 Side effects

4. Geräteaufstellung
4.1 Aufstellen und Anschließen
des Gerätes
1. Stellen Sie das Gerät bitte auf eine ebe-
ne Fläche, z.B. auf den Nachttisch oder
auf den Fußboden neben dem Bett.
Wichtig!
Decken Sie das Gerät nicht zu.
2. Prüfen Sie, ob die Netzspannung mit der
Angabe auf dem Geräteschild 27 über-
einstimmt.
Wenn der Spannungswahlschalter nicht
auf die vorhandene Versorgungsspan-
nung eingestellt ist, müssen Sie den Span-
nungswahlschalter umstellen (siehe „4.2
Spannungswahlschalter“ auf Seite 20).
3. Verbinden Sie mit der Netzanschlußlei-
tung 3den Gerätestecker 29 und eine
Netzsteckdose.
Die Anzeigeelemente der LC-Anzeige 18
leuchten kurz auf und nach ca. 2 Sekun-
den erscheint „0“ für Bereitschaft.
4. Soll SOMNOsmart ®mit einer Spannung
von 12 bis 15 V DC betrieben werden,
muß der kleinere Stecker der Verbin-
dungsleitung 2in den hinteren Eingang
26 „12 VDC“ gesteckt werden.
Der Autostecker wird an eine 12 V
Gleichspannungsquelle angeschlossen.
Auf den Autostecker ist ein roter Adapter-
ring aufgesteckt. Dieser ist erforderlich, falls
Sie den Autostecker in eine Zigarettenan-
zünderbuchse stecken wollen. Zur Verbin-
dung mit einer 12 V Kfz-Steckdose, müssen
Sie den roten Adapterring abziehen.
