GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS:
This appliance must be grounded. If it should
malfunctionor breakdown, groundingprovides
a pathof least resistancefor electriccurrentto

1.) Set dome and recoverytank to the
side.
2.) Use a clean bucketto fill the solution
tank with hotwater.
CAUTION :
Do notusewater temperaturesinexcess
of
150” F (65°C).
Water which is too hot may distort the
polyethylenetanks.
3.) Add a cleaning concentratefor use
in hotwater extractors. Closely follow
manufacturer’s instructionsfound on
container. Read ingredients listed on
the container to ensure compatible
chemicals are used. The solutiontank
capacity is
6 gallons (23 liters).
CAUTl ON :
Use only the suitable chemicals listed
below. Using incompatible chemicals
will damage the machine. Damages of

desiredresult is achieved. Morethan
318 (lcm) of contact betweenthe
brushbristlesand carpet may cause
the brush motor circuit breakerto trip,
turning off machine.

Operwa the Spirif:
1.) Fillthe solutiontank.
2.) Move machine to the cleaning area.
3.) Lowerthe brush housingto the floor.
4.) Adjust the brushto the desired height.
5.) Plug machineintoelectricaloutlet.
6.) Release handle by pressingbar with
foot. Push handleforwardto lock.
To releasehandle:
A.) Pressdownwith foot.
B.j Pullbackon handle.

7.) PressVac/Pump switch with foot
to turn on.
8.) Tilt the machine backon rear wheels
until brush is off the carpet.
Pressbrushswitchwith footto turn on.
NOTE:
Starting
the machinewithdry brush
restingoncarpet maytripthebrush
motor circuit breaker.
9.) Squeezethe solution controlleverto
dispense cleaning solution.
10.) Pullthe machinebackwardsat a
steady pace. Differentcarpet
conditionswill determinethe speed
required, approximately
25 to 30
feet per minute (8 - 9 m). Do not press
downonthehandlewhile cleaning,this
will causethe brush housingto raise
slightly and reduceefficiency.

11.) Releasethe solution lever about 6
inches (1 5,O cm) beforethe end of
each passto ensure all solution is
picked up.
12.) Allow eachcleaning pass to overlap
the previous pass about 1 inch
(23 cm).
13.) While cleaning check for foam build -
upin recoverytank. When excessive
foam beginsto build up, add a
defoaming compound
to the recovery
tank accordingto the instructionson
the manufacturer’spackage.

Warning:
An overflowof foam fromthe
recoverytank intothevacuum
intakecan damagethe vacuum
motor. Always beawareof the
waste water levelandfoam
in the
recoverytank, especiallywhen
using
an accessory tool. BEFORE
foam or solution is pulledintovac
intakeemptythe recoverytank.
C AUTlO N :
Never put defoamingcompound in
thesolutiontank. Damagetopump
will result.
NOTE: The vac motor
is protected bya
circuit breakerwhich willonlytrip
under conditions of abuse, suchas
an overflow of foam into the dome.
When
an overflowdoes occur the
vac motor must beallowedto dry
thoroughly beforecontinuingwork.
1 .) Removesourceof overflow.
2.) Run motorto dry.
14.) When solutiontank empties the
machinewill start streaking andwon’t
completelycleanthecarpet. Turnboth
switches
off, empty the recoverytank,
and refillthe solutiontank. Usethe
clear drain hose on the rear of the
solutiontank
as a sight gage to
determineamount
of fluid intank.

15.) Ventilatethe roomwhen cleaning has
beencompleted. Keepalltrafficoff the
carpet until it isthoroughly dry.
16.) When done cleaningfor the day bring
the machineto a utilitysink and floor
drain. Performthe daily/regular
maintenance. Set the recoverytank
aside
so solutiontank will dry.
When notusingthe machineputthe
brush inthe storage position.

Leavingthe brush on the floor for
long periodsof time may ruin it.
CAUTION:

5.) Plugthe machine in and turn on only
the vac/pump switch.
CAUTION :

Determinepreciselywhat areasyou arego-
ingto clean. Noteproblemareas inthe car-
pet or tack strip.
Look for loose carpet,
heavily damaged areas, discolored stains,
or greasespotsthatwill requireprespotting.
Notethe carpettype. Check the availability
of hot water, drains, and suitable electrical
outlets.
If the carpet is loose or worn, have
it repaired
before attemptingto clean it.
PlanCleaning Route:
Workfromthemostremoteareatowardsthe
exit.
Try notto traveloverthecleanedareas
when getting fresh water or dumping old.
Furniture should be moved away from the
walls before cleaning.
If furniture is moved
backinplacebeforecarpetiscompletelydry,
placeplasticor foil protectorsunderthe legs
to prevent possible carpet staining. When
possibleusea Windblower
(WB3) andopen
all windows and doors to speed carpet dry-
ing.

Always take the time
to thoroughly vacuum carpet before using
the extractor.
On heavilysoiled carpets, or on areas of
highfoottraffic,
it maybenecessaryto use
a presprayortrafficlanecleanerappliedwith
aseparatesprayer.
Do notaddprespraysto
the machine's solution tank.
If a spotter is
used, follow the manufacturer's instructions
exactly as printedon the label.
Use an accessorytoolto remove spotter.
Spotter left in the carpet may bleach or
brown it permanently.
Shagor deeppilecarpets mayrequiresev-
eralpassesfrom differentdirections, butthe
operator mustbecarefulnottoover saturate
the carpet. Make several passes without
spray to extract as much moisture as pos
-
sible.
Rinse carpet after cleaning so that sticky
soapbuild
- upwillnotcausecarpettoquickly
becomesoiled again.
Go back over carpet
usingonlycleanwarmwater insolutiontank.

Maintenance;
Theseproceduresarefollowedattheendof
each work period to extend the life of the
machine.
Emptyunusedcleaning solutionby
disconnectingclear hose on back of
machineand pouringinto floor drain.
Inspectandcleansolutionfilter screen
insidetank andvac intake screen
insidedome.
Flushthe system. Fillsolutiontank
with
1 or 2 gallons (4 - 8 liters)of clean
hotwater. With machineover floor
drainturn on vac/pump switch until
solution tank is empty.
Inspectspray patternof jets.
Removejets and rinse
if clogged.
Rinse recoverytank with clean hot
water.
Removeany lintor debrisfrom brush.
Inspect power cord. Remember, this
cordwill lay ondamp carpet.
Warning:
IMMEDIATELY HAVE WORN OR
FRAYED POWER CORDS
REPLACED.
8.) Inspecthoses. Worn or cracked
hosesmaycause
loss of vacpressure.
9.) Placethe brush inthe storage
position. Press back slightly on
the
main handle, press down onthe
control knoband turn untilthe
pin
drops intothe slot; rotateanother 90"
to lock.
For infrequent use or long periods of
storage,
flushthesystemwithaneutralizing
solution of
I quart (1 liter) white vinegar
mixed with
2 gallons (8 liters) hot water.
Flushthe system with clean hot water after

Perimtenance:
These procedures are performed by a
trainedservicetechnician. The regularityof
these procedures may depend on the ma

Flushthe systemwith a special
solutionto reduce scaling (alkaline
build
- up).
Useaceticacid (whitevinegar) or an
anti
- browning solution. Mixone quart
acetic acidwith
2 gallons (1 :8 liters)of
hotwater inthe solutiontank (if an
anti
- browning solution is usedfollow
manufacturer’s instructions). Turn on
the vadpump switchand allow the
machineto run over a floor drain until
the solution tank is empty
(approximatelyonce a month).

Use a methyl hydrate window washer type
anti
- freeze;mixagallonor two (4 - 8 liters) of
anti - freezesolution,following the manufac -
turer’s instructions. Add the anti - freeze
solutiontothe solutiontank. Withthe hoses
inplacerunthemachineuntiltheanti
- freeze
begins spraying out (don’t empty solution
tank). Vacuum out the remaining anti

freeze solution inthe solutiontank. Discon-

Servicing the Vac Motor
To accessthe vac motor first removethe solutiontank. There are (2) screwswhich attachthe
vac motor mountingbracket to the chassis. Loosenthe clampto removethe hose. To replace
the motorassembly
it will be necessaryto removethe (3) screwswhich attachthe motortothe
vac motor mountingbracket.

2.) Press inand turn nozzle 90" to
remove.
3.) When puttingnozzles back into 41226
manifold ensure slot intip runs

Belt Replacement
Periodicallycheck the drive beltfor wear.
Replaceworn or frayed belts before
they break, when possible.
To access the belt remove
the beltcover.
To replacethe belt
it is
necessaryto loosenthe motor
and removethe brush.
The
" preset " belt tension is correct when
the motor and beltare securely back
