1 Legal Disclaimer
All products (soware, hardware or rmware) manufactured by Workswell s.r.o. are warranted against defecve
materials and workmanship for a period of twelve (12) months, provided such products have been under normal
storage and use in accordance with herein instrucons.
The warranty extends only to the original purchaser and is not transferable. It is not applicable to any product
which has been subjected to misuse, neglect, accident or abnormal condions of operaon.
In the case of a defect in a product covered by this warranty the product must not be further used in order to
prevent addional damage. The purchaser shall promptly report any defect to Workswell s.r.o. or its authorized
distributor or this warranty will not apply.
Workswell s.r.o. will, at its opon, repair or replace any such defecve product free of charge if, upon inspecon,
it proves to be defecve in material or workmanship and provided that it is returned to Workswell within the
said twelve‐month period.
Nobody but Workswell s.r.o. is allowed to open or modify such product.
Workswell s.r.o. has no other obligaon or liability for defects than those set forth above. No other warranty is
expressed or implied. Workswell s.r.o. shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequenal

2. WARNING AND CAUTIONS
2 Warning and Cauons
2.1 Warnings
Before using the product, please read the whole User Manual. Before power‐up the camera or drone, please
check that there is no visible damage or malfuncon, cables are connected properly and verify the polarity is
correct.
If there are any visible signs of damage or other defect on the device, or you are not sure with the connecon,
then on no account should it be installed or put into operaon.
Any interference and non‐cered service operaons into the product leads to an automac loss of warranty.
2.2 Nocaons
Do not use or store the device in conict with the storage and operang condions laid down in this manual
(only for hardware).
Do not point the CWSI camera (with or without the lens cover) at strong energy sources, for example,
devices that cause laser radiaon, or the sun. This can have an unwanted eect on the accuracy of the
camera. It can also cause damage to the detector in the camera.
Plug the camera to its own power source. Do not plug the camera into the same power source as drone’s
motors.
Use original accessories only.
Do not plug any power to the GPS/Mavlink power pin.
Do not use the Workswell WIRIS Agro system in temperatures higher than +50◦C (+122◦F). High temperatures
can cause damage to the camera.
Do not use the Workswell WIRIS Agro system in temperatures lower than ‐10◦C (+5◦F). Low temperatures
can cause damage to the camera.
Do not use the Workswell WIRIS Agro in environmental condions that make condensaon possible (make
sure the air is non‐condensing)
Do not apply solvents or equivalent liquids to the cameras, the cables, or other items. Damage to the items
can occur. For cleaning refer to chapter 19.
Be careful when you clean the CWSI lens. The lens has an an‐reecve coang which is easily damaged.
Do not use too much force to clean the infrared lens. This can cause damage to the an‐reecve coang.
The encapsulaon rang is only applicable when all the openings on the all components of the system are
sealed with their correct covers, hatches, or caps.

4.4 Firmware
Firmware is the „internal“ control program of the device. From the user’s point of view, only the ocial rmware

6. INTRODUCTION
6 Introducon
Workswell’s WIRIS Agro is the rst device of its kind designed to map water stress across large areas in the eld
of precision agriculture. The aim of this method and device is to determine the value of water stress in the
plant stand. For example, this informaon may be used to determine yield maps, opmize irrigaon, or control
water management remedies. Camera oers LWIR band sensor (640×512) and 10x opcal zoom RGB camera
with resoluon full HD (1920 x 1080 px).

Workswell WIRIS Agro is designed to paired with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, drones) in a way which allows
control of all of its funcons during the ight. The system has digital inputs, which are fully compable with
standard RC receivers that support S.BUS. Two channels serve as navigaon buons in the menu, the rest are
shortcuts for the selected funcons (image capturing, video recording, colourmap switching, zoom and others).
The system oers a digital video output. Both visible spectrum and CWSI images can be displayed on the screen
at the same me.

6. INTRODUCTION
6.1 Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI)
The crop water stress index (CWSI) was developed as a normalized index to quanfy stress and overcome the
eects of other environmental parameters aecng the relaonship between stress, plant temperature and air
temperature.
CWSI is a very useful tools to prevent drought and determine irrigaon scheduling. But is for instance also used
in process of plant breeding (phenotyping), where the main goal is to nd variees and individuals that are less
sensive to water stress.
To disnguish CWSI value from NDVI, which also operates in the range of 0 to 1 (or ‐1 to 1), we prefer to use
a percentage to express a CWSI value and we are operang in percent range 0% to 100%. Value CWSI = 0%
corresponds (ideally) to the maximum possible plant transpiraon (stomata are completely open, enough water).
Value CWSI = 100% corresponds (ideally) to zero transpiraon for fully enclosed plant stomata. A value between
0 and 100% determines the degree of water stress. Rising value means higher level of water stress. Assignment
of CWSI level to crop condion see in the table below.

Crop is exposed to high level of water stress. With long‐term exposure to
water stress to a given extent wilng or signicantly reduced yield could
be expected.
40% ‐ 80%
Extremly high stress
The yield can be expected to be very low without
correcve measures. There is a high probability that without irrigaon crops
will wilt.

7.2 HDMI Micro Video Output
The Workswell WIRIS system is equipped with a standard HDMI micro video output. It can be connected to any
wireless video link or a display with HDMI input that supports WIRIS Agro resoluon.
The default WIRIS Agro resoluon 1280x720 (also called HD or 720p). It is recommended to use a display with
16:9 aspect rao.

The system can be connected to a wireless video link or a display using supplied lightweight HDMI cable.
7.3 RC Receiver
For interfacing with standard RC receivers, WIRIS Agro is equipped with a S.BUS input. The S.BUS input, communicang
control of mulple servo inputs, allows user to control the system remotely during the ight.
The rst two virtual channels on the S.BUS funcon as primary direconal controls within the menus and allow
for complete control over the device. The addional channels allow binding of funcon shortcuts which provide
quick, customizable access to various funcons; capture trigger, mode change and so forth.
It is recommended to use a joysck for navigaon in system menu. If connected as recommended, then the
behavior of the joysck is as shown on the following image.

7.4 USB Keyboard
Besides the digital inputs, the Workswell WIRIS Agro system can be controlled also via standard USB keyboard.
Once the keyboard is connected, it can be used for navigaon in system menu, for image capturing, video
recording, mode switching, zoom or seng numerical values.

Warning: Do NOT connect WIRIS Agro to any other powered device (such as PC) through the full size USB
port on the rear of WIRIS Agro. As the rear USB port is powered, connecon to another powered USB
port can lead to permanent damage to either device. Only unpowered devices (USB Keyboards and USB
Flash Storage drives) are to be connected into the rear USB A port of WIRIS Agro.

Windows or GNU/Linux.
To connect to the internal memory, use a standard USB Micro B connector cable and plug it into the connector
in the side of WIRIS Agro.
If communicaon is successfully established, most modern operang systems will automacally report presence
of a mass storage device and allow access to the data.

Warning: Do NOT connect WIRIS Agro to any other powered device (such as PC) through the full size USB
port on the rear of WIRIS Agro ‐ only the side Micro USB port can be used for mass storage access. As the
rear USB port is powered, connecon to another powered USB port can lead to permanent damage to
either device.
7.6 SD Card
The Workswell WIRIS Agro can be oponally ed with a MicroSD memory card as a storage medium. Most
generic MicroSD cards should be compable. Video recordings cannot be saved directly to the MicroSD card and
have to be recorded only to internal storage (but can be moved over to the MicroSD o‐line within the device
itself).
To install the MicroSD card simply insert it into the MicroSD slot on le side of the device. Be mindful of the
SDCard orientaon; contacts should be facing upwards.

The MicroSD card should be recognized by the device even if inserted with the system already running. The
MicroSD card should only be removed with the device either unpowered, or aer the SD card is manually
unmounted in the Memory menu.
7.7 Power Supply
The Workswell WIRIS Agro system can be powered through a +9 to +36 VDC connector on the back panel. The
back panel DC connector is compable with a 5.5 mm/OD (outer diameter) and 2.5 mm/ID (inner diameter) plug,
where the inner contact is +9 to +36 VDC and the shell is GND.

The standard package contains appropriate 5.5x2.5mm coaxial connector with a cable (length of 80 cm).
Warning: Failure to follow these instrucons could damage the system
7.8 Turning the System OFF
To turn the system o, simply unplug the power supply.
7.9 Focusing the CWSI Camera
The CWSI camera has adjustable focus. The focus can be set using the focus tool. Note that the depicted focus
tool is not part of standard accessories and is sold separately.
Warning: The WIRIS Agro camera is focused to innity during manufacturing and in most cases should
never need adjustments. Considering the delicate nature of the opcs it is beer to not aempt removal
of protecve glass or adjustment of the focus lens unless absolutely necessary.

In order to focus for short distance gently rotate the lens counter‐clockwise. During this movement, the lens
extends from the camera body.
Warning: Trying to rotate the lens too far much may cause the lens to fall out.
In order to focus on long distance (or innity) gently rotate the lens clockwise. During this movement, the lens
retracts to the camera body. Rotang the lens too far in this direcon can adjust beyond the intended focus
range. Innity focus is recommended for most of the applicaons.
