energy, and you should exercise all safety precautions as are appropriate for this type of

Please read the suggestions and warnings below before using the transceiver.

Dust and Water Protection
e KG-805F is waterproof to IP55 standards. It is dust resistant and rated to with-
stand water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction for a
limited period. is radio is resistant to dust and water only while the battery is proper-
ly installed and locked in place with no gaps and the accessory port is completely sealed
with the accessory port cover. Use of a headset or other accessory will negate the dust
and waterproong features of this radio. e KG-805F is NOT submersible. Do not
attempt to operate this radio if it has been submerged.

Charge the radio only under dry conditions.
▪
DO NOT charge the radio when it is wet.

DO NOT expose the radio and charger to wet environments when charging.

Installing the Battery
To install the Lithium-ion battery pack:
1. Be sure the radio is o.
2. Slide the battery pack down the back o the radio until the three tabs on the bottom
of the battery slide into the slots at the bottom of the radio.
3. Push forward on the battery until it is securely locked in place on both sides.
Removing the Battery
To remove the battery pack:
1. With your thumb and forenger, slide down the latches on each side of the battery
near the top of the battery pack simultaneously
2. While holding down the latches, pull the battery pack away from the radio.

e Antenna
e KG-805F antenna is permanently attached to comply with FCC rules. Any at-
tempt to remove it may damage your radio and will void your warranty.
Warning: To avoid injury, DO NOT attempt to operate your radio if the antenna is
damaged or defective.
e Belt Clip
e belt clip attaches to the back of the battery pack on the radio. To install the belt
clip, simply slide it down onto the back of the battery until it snaps in place. To remove
the belt clip, depress the lock release on the back of the belt clip, and while holding it
down, slide the belt clip up and away from the battery.

Introducing FRS and the KG-805F
e Family Radio Service (FRS) is a two way radio service that oers some powerful
benets. Users are allowed to transmit at up to 2 watts without the need to purchase
a license. is radio is Licensed by Rule, meaning that your purchase and use of the
KG-805F automatically grants you a license to use it in the United States.
e KG-805F was designed to allow you to take advantage of all that FRS has to oer
and more. Right out of the box this radio is congured to allow you to transmit on the
22 FRS simplex channels.
Read this chapter to learn the basics of using your new KG-805F radio, such as select-
ing a channel, transmitting and receiving, and scanning.

Power On/O and Adjusting Volume
Rotate the volume knob clockwise to power on the radio. To power o the radio, rotate
the volume knob counter-clockwise until a click is felt.
To adjust the volume, use the volume knob when the radio is powered on. Turning the
knob clockwise increases the volume, counter-clockwise decreases it.
Your First Transmit
Selecting a Channel
When you power on your KG-805F for the rst time, the display will likely show
“CH01” on the left with “01” on the right. CH01 is the name of the currently selected
channel and 01 is the channel number. Turn the Channel Knob or press the [UP] /
[DOWN] arrow keys to navigate through the list of channels.
As a license-free FRS user you are allowed to use any of the channels. e channel you
choose isn’t as important as making sure it’s the same channel the rest of your group is
using. Be sure the channel you select is also supported by the equipment everyone else

in your group is using.
Most rules for FRS are the same for all channels, but there are a few dierences, par-
ticularly concerning output power. e FRS channels on the KG-805F consist of 2
groups, with the following dierences:

Transmitting on channels 1-7 and 15-22 is authorized for up to 2 watts of output
power on FRS. ese channels can transmit at High power on the KG-805F. Prior
to FCC changes made in 2017, channels 15-22 were exclusive to GMRS (not part
of FRS).
▪
Transmitting on channels 8-14 are limited to a half watt of output power and are
for use on Low power only. Prior to FCC changes made in 2017, these were the
only channels exclusively assigned to the FRS service.
Transmitting and Receiving
With a channel selected, the radio is actively “listening” for an incoming signal on that
channel. When a signal is detected, the transmission will be heard through the radio’s
speaker. Please note, the Squelch setting (page 24) determines how strong a signal

needs to be in order to be detected.
To transmit, rst be sure the channel is clear and then hold the radio a few inches from
your mouth. Hold down the PTT button on the side while talking and release the PTT
when nished.
For best performance and clarity of transmission, position the radio upright with the
front of the radio facing you, hold it several inches away from your mouth and speak
directly into the microphone during transmission.
Channels and Privacy Codes
e KG-805F supports 22 built-in FRS channels and 155 privacy tones and codes.
To successfully communicate between your stations or members of your group, all the
connecting radios must be using the same channel and privacy (CTCSS or DCS) code.
ese tones and codes can be enabled and congured in the [R-CTC], [R-DCS],
[T-CTC] and [T-DCS] menu options (pp 28-29).
e KG-805F supports 128 customizable memory channels. Channels can be added,
deleted or reordered via the PC programming software.
