Installation Preparation Document (for physical installation of the product only)
Xerox DocuTech 6155/6180
701P43858
June 2005
Please ensure electrical, space, and supplies are available prior to equipment delivery.
Installation Considerations
• There should be a minimum of 78 inches (1,981mm) clearance
from the floor to the nearest overhead obstruction.
• Dedicated power outlets are required. Ensure each power cord
has a separate circuit that cannot be shared with other devices.
• Electrical outlet must be located within 13.1 feet of the
equipment.
• Mobility Assist Device - The optional mobility assist device
reduces the installation clearance required to 30 inches
(760mm) at the processor end of the printer and 15 inches (380
mm) at the finisher end.
• For proper operation, the printer must be perfectly level. The
floor must be level within 2 degrees in any direction. On floors
less than 2 degrees out of level, installation personnel install a
leveling kit to level the machine.
• If the floor is more than 2 degrees out of level, this condition
cannot be corrected by the leveling kit. Another suitable location
must be found for the printer to be installed properly.
• A minimum 50-inch clearance of exclusive operator area must
be maintained in front of each component. This space cannot
be shared.
• A minimum of 36 inches of clearance in the back of each
component for general service clearance.
Physical requirements
• The DocuSP Controller Monitor and Keyboard are designed to
be positioned on top of the DocuTech 61XX printer. The
controller platform is designed to either be mounted in a stand to
the left of the printer, or to be positioned on the floor to the left of
the printer
• Warning: Due to safety requirements, under no circumstances
should the user interface be visually separated from the printer
module. All system installations must enable mobility of the user
interface to within 30” (760 mm) of the printer for service and
customer maintenance actions.

1Expected dry ink yield is based on 6% coverage on letter paper. Actual
usage will vary widely with % area coverage, density settings, and paper size
used.
The US supplies Marketing Center, 1.800.822.2200 is available for ordering all
Xerox supplies, including paper and throughput material.
Network Requirements
• The Ethernet interface on the DocuSP controller is a 10/100-
MB/sec twisted pair standard (10BaseT).
• The Ethernet connection to the DocuSP controller must be
compatible with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE) 802.3 standard. (The physical form of this
connector is RJ45 and must be correctly wired.)
• The DocuSP controller supports TCP-IP, SPX/IPX, and
EtherTalk Link Access Protocol (ELAP) protocols if the proper
gateways are installed on the controller.
• The DocuSP controller does not provide Novell Server network
services. To use the SPX/IPX protocol, a Novell server installed
on the network is required.
• A Xerox Token Ring solution is available for the 61XX family.
When Token Ring is installed, it becomes a Token Ring only
connectivity solution. The NetWare gateway and AppleTalk
gateway will not function, and the built in Ethernet bge0 twisted
pair interfaces are disabled. (Gigabit Ethernet is supported –
some customers have asked for this option.)
Telephone Requirements
A voice telephone line is required where the DocuTech 6155 or 6180
is installed.
Voice line will be used when the operator, administrator, or Xerox
Service Personnel is asked to read the screen information from the
DocuSP controller dialogs to Xerox Customer Support or Technical
Support Center Personnel.

Note:
• This product is targeted for the 1.8 to 6.0 million impressions per
month market segment. Usage above this range may result in a
higher service frequency.
• Variables other than monthly print volume affect average
number of service calls. Please contact your sales
representative or Customer Service Engineer for more
information.
