2About XMReality Remote Guidance Solution
A Guide connects to an On-site Follower to allow joint problem-solving over the internet. The
Guide runs the program on his computer (PC/laptop/tablet) and a Follower runs a similar
program on his portable computer (laptop/tablet). When working hands-free, the Follower
wears the XMReality Smart Glasses connected to his computer.
Using an internet connection (cable/3G/4G/WIFI/satellite) the Follower can anywhere in the
world feel like the Guide is right next to him in the room, guiding him through the problem - no
matter how complex - step by step.
The Guide’s and the Follower’s computers initially communicate over a server; the XM Server,
which reports certain information such as name, password, IP and port numbers. In the standard
set-up, the XM Server is hosted by XMReality AB.

2.2 Description
XMReality Smart Glasses RG15 is a hands free option to the XMReality Remote Guidance
Solution. The glasses consist of two near-eye micro displays and a video camera. The glasses are
based on the video-see-through principle as opposed to optical see-through. What you see in
the displays is a video image of the reality in front of you, as captured by the camera. The image
is the same image as you would otherwise see on your tablet/ laptop as you run the XMReality
software, but now optically matched with the real image in front of you. You get your hands
free to perform your work. The Guide can also see exactly what you are looking at as the
camera follows the movements of your head.
The glasses cover 40 degrees of your field-of-view, while allowing you to be aware of your
surroundings by leaving space open to your peripheral eyesight. When you don’t need to be
guided the micro displays can easily be lifted without being taken off. The camera can still stay
directed forward so that the guide can remain in touch.
The glasses are equipped with an adjustable head-band to secure them to your head. (Model
RG15H is fitted to a 3M G2000 Safety Helmet.)
2.3 How to connect
The glasses need two connections to your portable computer. One USB 2.0 and one VGA
output. If your portable computer doesn’t have a VGA output, you will need a converter (to for
example HDMI, mini-HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, etc.), see Figure 3 below.
Figure 3
Note: Some converters have additional features (such as audio output) that may interfere with
the communication. Hence, some converters may not be compatible. Look for simple straight-
forward converters without audio.

2.4 How to adjust the head band
The head band is adjusted simply by turning the knob at the back of your head.
Note: No need to remove your own glasses.
2.5 How to adjust the displays
The display angle can be adjusted (see Figure 4). The camera remains aligned with the displays
as they are tilted. The display can also be moved forwards and backwards (see Figure 4).
Figure 4
The frame can also be raised to your forehead as you walk around when you don’t need
guidance. You can still have the camera directed forward to allow the Guide to see the image
right in front of you.
Caution: For your safety, avoid walking around with the displays down unless necessary for
guidance.
