1Introduction
1.1 Background
HDCVI is the abbreviation of High Definition Composite Video Interface. This standard developed by Dahua
Technology enables transfer of high definition video using common coaxial cables. This way, HDCVI is
particularly suitable to upgrade existing video monitoring systems at low effort using the existing
infrastructure. Even in complex installations with long transmission distances of up to 500 metres, existing
analogue cameras can be replaced by high-resolution analogue cameras without having to install new
cabling. In addition to video signals also control commands (RS485) as well as audio data can be
transferred.
Dahua HDCVI Encoders receive the incoming analogue signals and convert them into digital data streams.
This Technical Product Information describes an example of a connection of analogue HDCVI cameras to a
HeiTel device using a Dahua DHIHCVR7216AN-4M.
1.2 Prerequisites
The following hardware and software are required for operation of a Dahua HDCVI Encoder:
One of the HeiTel devices listed above, with up-to-date firmware
For video systems with older firmware versions a firmware update must be carried out first.
CamControl LITE software or CamControl PRO software in up-to-date version. In this document, the
settings are described using the CamControl LITE software as an example.
Dahua HDCVI Encoder without hard disk, e.g. DHIHCVR7216AN-4M with the desired number of
cameras connected. Refer to 2 or to the Dahua device documentation.
Analogue standard or HDCVI cameras, connected to the Dahua device
1.3 Overview
In order to set up the configuration of the individual cameras described in chapter “Camera configuration in
CamControl LITE”an operable connection between CamControl LITE configuration software and the
cameras of the Dahua device must be established. The following illustration shows an overview of the signal
path:
The different cameras are connected to the Dahua device via coaxial cables. The coaxial cables are
used to transfer video signals but also control commands (e.g. PTZ) and audio signals.

Note: When using coaxial cables transmission distances of up to 500 m are possible. However, this
depends on the quality of the cables as well as on the connectors and possibly required
welded joints.
The Dahua device is connected to the HeiTel device via IPconnection.
The HeiTel device sends the data via per IP connection (and switch) to the CamControl LITE software,
CamControl PRO software respectively. The CamControl LITE software is used for configuration and
video evaluation and analysis.
2Install Dahua HDCVI Encoder
Refer to the Dahua device documentation for information on setup and commissioning.
When you have connected the device to the camera network and assigned an IP address etc. using the on-
screen menu, you can use the web interface for further configuration. Data input in the web interface may be
more comfortable than using the on-screen keyboard.
Note: Operation without hard disk might result in a continuous alarm (alarm tone). Switch off that alarm as
described in the following.
1. Select the main menu icon in the Navigation Bar and then Setting, Event, Abnormality:
2. Select No HDD from the Event type list.
3. Deactivate the checkbox behind Enable.
This deactivates the No HDD alarm.

3Camera configuration in CamControl LITE
This chapter describes the configuration of the cameras connected to the Dahua device using the
CamControl LITE software.
Note: To each of the 10 camera channels available on the HeiTel device one camera connected to the
Dahua device can be assigned to.
3.1 Basic configuration
Proceed as follows:
1. Connect to the HeiTel device to which the Dahua device is connected.
2. Click Settings and then IP cameras in the menu tree.
3. At the desired position in the list select ONVIF from the Manufacturer list and then the Protocol:
Type 1 for PTZ cameras
Type 2 for non-PTZ cameras
4. Under IP address enter the IP address of the Dahua device:
5. Click Configure on the right of the entry:
6. All cameras connected to the Dahua HDCVI Encoder are available in the three drop-down lists Video
format stream 1 to 3.
7. Select the desired camera for the individual streams. Always select the same camera! Make sure you
observe the notes under “Prevent problems
8. Click OK.
9. Select Camera settings in the menu tree and enter a meaningful camera name for the respective
camera channel number.

10. Click OK.
11. In the Recorder settings dialogue, click OK and confirm with OK.
The camera is configured now. Repeat the above steps for other cameras as required.
Prevent problems
Although it is basically possible that different (Dahua) cameras are transmitted via one HeiTel camera
channel for Live stream, Browser stream and so on. However, this is NOT recommended. Mixing different
cameras on one channel would mean that, e.g., a CamControl LITE user (Live stream) and a CamControl
MV user (WebApi stream (Multi View)) would see different camera images and the archive (Site archive
stream) would possibly store video of a third camera the Live stream of which would not be displayed on any
channel. This results in scenarios which cannot be handled and controlled.
Moreover, such settings will result in problems with PTZ presets. The Dahua device stores its own Preset list
for each of the cameras but the HeiTel device can only manage one Preset list per camera channel. The
HeiTel transmitter will always use the Preset list of the Live stream (CamControl LITE) as reference. But this
reference then always applies when calling up presets via:
Web browser
CamControl MV
PIR
CIO adapter
3.2 Advanced settings
Set up the further configuration for the individual camera channels using the CamControl LITE software. The
required settings depend on the respective location and the planned overall system. Examples are:
Alarms
Note: motion detection is not transferred by the Dahua Encoder! The detection must be via
IntrusionTrace / LoiterTrace.
Analysis using IntrusionTrace and/or LoiterTrace
Archive settings
etc.
Refer to the CamControl LITE Software Guide, document No. 26936.

4Check settings
When having completed the setup of the individual cameras check the functioning. The main focus in this
respect is to make sure that one camera channel always shows (or records) video of one and the same
camera.
4.1 Live video
Connect to the respective transmitter using the CamControl LITE software. In the main window select the
respective camera and check video transmission and, if appl. PTZ control as well as audio transmission.
If applicable, also check Browser display and Web-API stream (Multi-View).
4.2 Alarms
If configured, provoke alarm scenarios, the respective recordings and so on. This way, e.g., check the
detection by IntrusionTrace and/or LoiterTrace on the respective channels.
4.3 Archive evaluation
Open the archive:
Make sure the archive recordings of the selected channel correspond to the camera image in Live view.

5Troubleshooting
This section describes remedial action for common error patterns which may result from improper
configuration or setup.
Alarm tone at the Dahua device (no HDD)
Depending on the configuration, operating the Dahua Encoder without hard disk might result in a continuous
alarm (alarm tone). Deactivate the respective alarm tone; refer to “Install Dahua HDCVI Encoder”.
No alarm (detection)
Motion detection is not transmitted by the Dahua Encoder! The detection must be via IntrusionTrace /
LoiterTrace. Check the configuration and the respective licenses.
Camera does not show image
Check the configuration of the Dahua Encoder; refer to “Install Dahua HDCVI Encoder”.
Camera does not show the expected Live image
Check the configuration of the IP-camera channel. Specifically refer to section Prevent problems in “Basic
configuration”.
Camera does not show the expected archive image
Check the configuration of the IP-camera channel. Specifically refer to section Prevent problems “Basic
configuration”.
Camera does not show the expected browser image
Check the configuration of the IP-camera channel. Specifically refer to section Prevent problems in “Basic
configuration”.
Camera has unexpected PTZ presets
Check the configuration of the IP-camera channel. Specifically refer to section Prevent problems in “Basic
configuration”.
