Introduction
Purpose of this manual
The purpose of this manual is to provide necessary information for:
• Installation
• Operation
• Maintenance
CAUTION:
Read this manual carefully before installing and using the product. Improper use of the
product can cause personal injury and damage to property, and may void the warranty.
NOTICE:
Save this manual for future reference, and keep it readily available at the location of the
unit.
Safety terminology and symbols
About safety messages
It is extremely important that you read, understand, and follow the safety messages and
regulations carefully before handling the product. They are published to help prevent
these hazards:
• Personal accidents and health problems
• Damage to the product
• Product malfunction
Hazard levels

Hazard categories
Hazard categories can either fall under hazard levels or let specific symbols replace the
ordinary hazard level symbols.

Electrical hazards are indicated by the following specific symbol:
Electrical Hazard:
These are examples of other categories that can occur. They fall under the ordinary
hazard levels and may use complementing symbols:
• Crush hazard
• Cutting hazard
• Arc flash hazard
Safety
WARNING:
• The operator must be aware of safety precautions to prevent physical injury.
• Operating, installing, or maintaining the unit in any way that is not covered in this
manual could cause death, serious personal injury, or damage to the equipment. This
includes any modification to the equipment or use of parts not provided by Xylem. If
there is a question regarding the intended use of the equipment, please contact a
Xylem representative before proceeding.
• Do not change the service application without the approval of an authorized Xylem
representative.
CAUTION:
You must observe the instructions contained in this manual. Failure to do so could result
in physical injury, damage, or delays.
Qualified personnel
This product is intended to be operated by qualified personnel only.
Spare parts
WARNING:
Only use original spare parts to replace any worn or faulty components. The use of
unsuitable spare parts may cause malfunctions, damage, and injuries as well as void the
guarantee.
Disposal of packaging and product
Observe the local regulations and codes in force regarding sorted waste disposal.

Transportation and Storage
Inspect the delivery
Inspect the package
1. Inspect the package for damaged or missing items upon delivery.
2. Note any damaged or missing items on the receipt and freight bill.
3. File a claim with the shipping company if anything is out of order.
If the product has been picked up at a distributor, make a claim directly to the
distributor.
Inspect the unit
1. Remove packing materials from the product.
Dispose of all packing materials in accordance with local regulations.
2. Inspect the product to determine if any parts have been damaged or are missing.
3. If applicable, unfasten the product by removing any screws, bolts, or straps.
For your personal safety, be careful when you handle nails and straps.
4. Contact the local sales representative if there is any issue.
Storage guidelines
Storage location
The product must be stored in a covered and dry location free from heat, dirt, and
vibrations.
NOTICE:
• Protect the product against humidity, heat sources, and mechanical damage.
• Do not place heavy weights on the packed product.
Storage requirements
The ambient temperature for the storage site must be between -40°C (-40°F) and 60°C
(140°F).

Installation
Precautions
Before starting work, make sure that the safety instructions in the chapter Introduction and
Safety (page 2) have been read and understood.
DANGER: Electrical Hazard
Before starting work on the unit, make sure that the unit and the control panel are isolated
from the power supply and cannot be energized. This applies to the control circuit as well.
DANGER: Electrical Hazard
All electrical equipment must be grounded (earthed). Test the ground (earth) lead to
verify that it is connected correctly. Frequently inspect electrical systems to ensure that the
path to ground is continuous.
WARNING: Electrical Hazard
Risk of electrical shock or burn. A certified electrician must supervise all electrical work.
Comply with all local codes and regulations.
WARNING: Electrical Hazard
There is a risk of electrical shock or explosion if the electrical connections are not correctly
carried out, or if there is fault or damage on the product. Visually inspect equipment for
damaged cables, cracked casings or other signs of damage. Make sure that electrical
connections have been correctly made.
CAUTION: Electrical Hazard
Prevent cables from becoming sharply bent or damaged.
Residual or transient voltage
Applied voltages remain present at the drive terminals and within the drive for up to
10 minutes after disconnection of the electrical supply.
Installation requirements
Check that the following requirements are met:
• The product must be installed on a flat, flame-resistant vibration-free surface.
Explosive or flammable environment
Do not install in an explosive zone, or a potentially explosive or flammable environment.
Make the electrical connections
Electrical interface
The operator panel uses an RJ45 8-way connector with the Optibus protocol as its
electrical interface. For more information, see the Installation, Operation, and
Maintenance manual, for the drive.

Select the data cable
Incorrect cable connection can damage the product. Do NOT use an RJ22 cable.
Select one of the following:
• If a standard cable is used, then use an RJ45 8-way data cable with plugs.
• If a custom cable is used, then make sure that the connection pinout is correct.

System Setup and Operation
System setup
Description
The drive provides the +24 V power supply to the operator panel via the RJ45 connection.
If the drive is not used for power supply, then external power supply is possible. When the
connection has been set up, the system is ready to operate.
Cable splitters are ordered separately.

manual for the drive.

Navigate The button is used to enter/exit
(2 seconds) the menu and to confirm
selection/change (< 2 seconds).
Up The button is used to increase a value
or selection in the submenu.
Off The button is used to reset a tripped
drive and to stop the drive in manual
mode.
Down The button is used to decrease a value
or selection in the submenu.
Hand The button is used to enter the
manual mode.
Auto The button is used to enter the
automatic mode
Set up the communication address manually
At the initial start-up, the operator panel sets up the communication address
automatically. To set the address manually, do the following:
1. When the operator panel displays Select Drive Address 01, then adjust the address
from 1 to 63 using the up or down button.
2. Confirm the address of the connected drive and press the off button.
Work with a multiple drive network
1. Press the off and down buttons on the operator panel at the same time.
The operator panel displays Select Drive Address xx where xx represents the current
drive address.
2. Press the up and down buttons on the operator panel to select the drive address.
3. Press the off button to establish the communication between the operator panel and
the drive.
Work with two operator panels
The operator panels are set to Optipad ID 01 by default.
To ensure the correct operation, change the identity on the second operator panel.
1. Press the navigate, off and down buttons on the operator panel at the same time.
The operator panel displays Select Optipad ID xx where xx is 01 or 02.
2. Press the up and down buttons on the operator panel to select the operator panel
identity.
3. Press the off button to return to the normal operation.
Number of operator panels Information
One operator panel The Optipad ID 01 setting is required for the correct
functionality.
Two operator panels It is impossible to upload new drive software when
Optipad ID 02 is present in the network.

Change the display language
1. Press the on and up buttons at the same time.
2. Select the requested language by use of the up or down buttons.
3. Press the navigate button to select and activate the requested language.
Display messages
Drive messages and trip codes
Any information displayed that is not related to the operator panel refers to the drive
connected. See the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance manual for the drive.
The fault code from the connected drive is displayed when there is a fault or trip in the
drive. For a list of the drive fault codes, see the Troubleshooting chapter in the Installation,
Operation, and Maintenance manual for the drive.
Operator panel messages
Message Description
Scanning for Drive xx The operator panel searches for the drive with address xx
in the network.
Load ... The operator panel detects the drive and reads the
configuration information from the drive.
SC-OBS The communication link between the drive and the
operator panel has failed.
Select Language The operator panel has a list of available languages in the
language selection screen.
Select Drive Address xx The operator panel displays this message when trying to
communicate with the drive.
Select Optipad ID Two operator panels can connect to a single drive or
network of multiple drives.

Troubleshooting
Error messages and remedies
Message Description Remedy
Select Drive Address xx The operator panel fails to
communicate with the specified
drive address in the network.
• Check that the cable is correctly connected.
• Check that the drive with address xx is in the network. If xx is
more than 1 and only one operator panel is connected, then
check that the operator panel device number is 1.
Err-id There are two operator panels in the
same drive network and both have
the same device number.
Change the device number of one of the operator panels.
SC-OBS The communication link between the
drive and the operator panel fails
during operation.
• Check the electrical connection.
• Ensure that the data cable is correctly connected between the
drive and the operator panel.
• Press the off button so that the operator panel searches for
the drive.
• Check that all drives in the system have different addresses.
