1. Safety Precautions and Maintenance
For optimum performance of the Mars HD, please read the following
safety precautions carefully:
▶To avoid the risk of fire, do not use the Mars HD near excessive heat
or operate for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
▶Avoid contact with liquids and exposure to moisture.
▶Use the Mars HD within the specified operating temperature range
of 10°C to 40°C (50°F to 104°F).
▶Always turn the Mars HD off when the system is not in use.
▶Clean the surface of the Mars HD ONLY with an electrostatic dusting
wipe or a soft, slightly damp cloth. DO NOT use liquid cleaners on the
Mars HD. No additional methods of cleaning are recommended or
required.

3. Setting up Your Mars HD
3.1 Getting Started
Take the Mars HD out of the ZOOMAX carrying case. Place the unit on
a stable horizontal surface.
3.2 Unfolding Your Mars HD
Hold the Mars HD in both hands. Pull the arm connected to the
camera head gently to a horizontal position as shown in Figure 1
below.

Holding the base of the unit, gently unfold the Mars HD and the rest
of the way open as shown in Figure 2 below.
Rotate the feet at the base of the unit out as far as they will go. Place
the unit on its base, then rotate the camera head counter-clockwise
90 degrees, as shown in Figure 2 above, and turn the camera lens
toward an object you would like to magnify.
NOTE: The regular position of the camera head is rotated
counter-clockwise 90 °, as shown in Figure 3 below ， so that
the image on the monitor or computer screen will be displayed
correctly. If the position of the camera head is clockwise 90 ° ,
you will need to use the Rotate Function to right the image.

3.3 Charging
The Mars HD is equipped with a built-in battery. To charge the
battery of the unit, plug the supplied power adapter into the unit and
an available power outlet as shown in Figure 4.
4. Guidelines for Use
4.1 General Guidelines
▶Use the Mars HD only on a stable horizontal surface, such as a
solid desk or a table.
▶Only use the power supply provided with the Mars HD. Using any
other power supply will void the warranty and may cause damage to
the unit.
▶To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not attempt to disassemble
the unit. For service or repair, please contact your distributor to
locate the nearest authorized service center.
▶Before using the Mars HD, charge the battery. A full charge takes

approximately three hours.
4.2 Button Functions (Connected to a Monitor or TV via the
HDMI Port)
4.2.1 Normal Mode
a. Power On/Off: Press and hold the Power button until
you hear a beep to turn the power on or off.
b. LED On/Off: Press LED On/Off button to turn the LED
light on or off.
c. Zoom Control: To zoom in, turn the Zoom knob
clockwise; to zoom out, turn the Zoom knob counter-clockwise.
d. Find Function: Press and hold the Find button on the

camera head and a target will appear in the center of the
screen (see Figure 5).

Move the reading material until you have located the desired
item within the target area. Release the Find button to magnify
the item in the target area as shown in Figure 6.

NOTE: The Find Function is not active when the unit is set
to 2X magnification.
e. Freeze Function: Press the Freeze button to freeze the
current image. The Freeze icon appears on the top left
corner of the screen. Press the Freeze button a second time to
return to the camera’s live view.

f. Focus Lock Function: The focus lock feature is useful when
you do not want the Mars HD to readjust focus based on
movement beneath the camera, such as when you are writing.
To activate the focus lock, press and hold the Freeze button
until you hear a beep, then release it. The Focus Lock icon
will appear on the top left corner of the screen.
NOTE: When the focus lock function active, you can still
adjust the focus manually with the Zoom knob.
g. Exiting Focus Lock Function: Press and hold the Freeze
button , releasing it after you hear one beep. The Focus
Lock icon will disappear and the unit will go back to autofocus.
h. Color Mode Function: Press the Color Mode button to
switch between your four color mode favorites and full color
mode.
i. Factory Reset:Press and hold both the Mode button
and the Find button for 10 seconds to restore the Mars
HD to its original factory settings.
j. Viewing Modes: To change the viewing mode, simply rotate
the camera. There are three types of viewing modes:
Reading view
Distance view
Self view
