Getting Started
Introduction
ZTE MF993C is a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, which works on the 4G and 3G
networks to provide you data service via a USB cable or Wi-Fi®.
The following figure shows the appearance of the device. It is only for your
reference. The actual device may be different.
1 Power button Press and hold for about 3 seconds to power on or
off.
Press to turn on or off the touch screen.
2 Touch screen Control the functions and settings of your device.
3 nano-SIM card tray Pop out the tray with the eject tool to install the
nano-SIM card.
4 Charging/USB Type-C jack Charge the device or connect to the USB port of a
computer to provide Internet service to it.

Installing the Battery
Power off the MF993C before removing or replacing the battery.
1. Open the back cover from the slot at one of its corner.
2. Insert the battery, making sure the connectors align.
3. Replace the back cover.
Installing the nano-SIM Card
The nano-SIM card can be installed or removed while the MF993C is turned
on.
WARNING!
To avoid damage to the device, do not use any other kind of SIM cards, or
any non-standard nano-SIM card cut from a SIM card. You can get a
standard nano-SIM card from your service provider.
1. Insert the tip of the tray eject tool into the hole on the nano-SIM card tray.

2. Pull out the card tray and place the nano-SIM card on the tray, as shown.
Carefully slide the tray back into place.
Charging Your Device
You can charge your device by using the USB Type-C cable or adapter.
Please charge your device for more than two hours when you use it the first
time or when you haven’t used it for a long time.

Use the USB Type-C cable to connect your device and PC directly.

Use the adapter and the USB Type-C cable to connect an AC power
outlet and your device.
NOTE:
The charging time varies depending on your battery level. The device will
stop charging if the temperature of the battery exceeds 113° F (45° C).
Powering On/Off Your Device
•
Press and hold the Power button for about three seconds to power on
the device.
NOTE:
If the battery is extremely low, you may be unable to power on the device.
Please charge your device first.

To power off, press and hold the Power button to open the shutdown
menu and touch OK.
Locking/Unlocking the Screen
To save battery, the touch screen will turn off automatically after a certain
period of time. You can also press the Power button to turn off the screen
immediately.
To turn the screen back on and unlock it, press the Power button and then
touch and hold the screen. If you have set a lock screen PIN, enter the PIN
to unlock the screen.

NOTE:
To log in to the LTE Hotspot configuration web page, you must turn off the
touch screen first. See Accessing the LTE Hotspot Configuration Web Page.
Touch Screen and Icons
The home screen of the touch screen displays your data usage at the center
and a group of status icons at the top. Touch Wi-Fi on the left to manage
Wi-Fi settings and Settings on the right to view messages or configure other
settings.
The following table shows the icons on the touch screen and what they
mean.
Network signal strength.
Network type.
New SMS.
Battery power level.
Connected to your computer via a USB Type-C cable.
The number of clients connected via Wi-Fi.

Connection Scenario
You can use Wi-Fi or a USB Type-C cable to connect to the MF993C device.
The following pictures are examples of device connection. All of these
devices can surf the Internet at the same time.

Connecting to the MF993C
You have two options to connect to the MF993C from your client devices,
via Wi-Fi or a USB Type-C cable. Once you are connected, test your
connection by opening the LTE Hotspot configuration web page.
Connecting via Wi-Fi
1. Find the default Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password on the sticker at the
bottom of the battery compartment.
2. Turn on the MF993C.
3. On your Wi-Fi enabled devices, turn Wi-Fi on and view the list of
available Wi-Fi networks.
4. Choose the SSID from the sticker, enter the password, and connect.
Using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
If a client supports WPS, you don’t have to input the password manually on
the client to connect with the MF993C via Wi-Fi. You can complete the
connection on the LTE Hotspot configuration web page (see Accessing the
LTE Hotspot Configuration Web Page) or on the touch screen.
From the configuration web page:
1. Select Wi-Fi Settings >WPS.
2. If both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are enabled for Wi-Fi, click the SSID field to
choose the SSID for WPS.
3. Select the WPS authentication method.
PIN: On the client, generate a PIN for WPS and enter here.
PBC: Start the Push Button Configuration (PBC).

4. Click Apply.
5. Follow the system prompts on your device to finish the setup.
From the touch screen:
1. Touch Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Name and Password.
2. Touch 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network or 5GHz Wi-Fi Network.
3. Touch Pair with WPS > Pair with Wi-Fi.
4. On the client device, activate the WPS function to finish the setup.
Connecting via a USB Type-C Cable
Connect the USB Type-C jack on the MF993C and the USB port on your
computer.
For first time connection, follow the prompts to install the LTE Hotspot
configuration web page on the computer.

Configuring Your PC (Verifying IP Address and DNS)
To use your MF993C with a computer, you need to set it to obtain an IP
address automatically. The following steps and figures reflect configuration
for the Internet Protocol for your connections with a Windows®7 operating
system.
1. Right-click Network and select Properties.
2. Select Change adapter settings.
3. Right-click Wireless Network Connection(if you connect to the
MF993C via Wi-Fi) or Local Area Connection (if you connect to the
MF993C via LAN), and then select Properties.

4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click
Properties.
5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server
address automatically, and then click OK to finish the configuration.
Accessing the LTE Hotspot Configuration Web Page
Visit the LTE Hotspot configuration web page to use some of its functions
and configure the MF993C settings, such as phonebook and messages,
passwords, Wi-Fi SSIDs.
NOTE:
To log in to the LTE Hotspot configuration web page, you must turn off the
touch screen first.

1. View the sticker at the bottom of the battery compartment to get the
default URL to the web page and the password.
2. Launch the Internet browser from a device connected to the MF993C
and enter the URL in the address bar to load the log in page as below.
On computersOn mobile devices
NOTE:
Select PC or Mobile to switch between computer interface and mobile
device interface.
NOTE:
It is recommended that you use Internet Explorer®, Firefox®, Safari®, or
Google™ Chrome™.
3. Enter the password and select Login.
NOTE:
As soon as you sign in to the LTE Hotspot configuration web page, follow
the prompts to change the default password. You can also click Modify
Login Password on the web page (see Navigating the LTE Hotspot
Configuration Web Pages) to do so.
If the PIN code of your nano-SIM card is enabled, every time the MF993C
restarts you will need to input the code and click Apply on the web page or
OK on the touch screen in order to connect to the Internet.

NOTE:
The nano-SIM card will be locked if you enter the wrong PIN code three
consecutive times. Please contact your SIM card provider to get a PIN
Unlock Key (PUK) to unlock the card.

Navigating the LTE Hotspot Configuration
Web Pages
The LTE Hotspot configuration home page looks like the following.
1 View the SSID(s) of the MF993C.
2 View wirelessly connected clients and manage blocked devices.
3 View data usage statistics.
4 Access more features and settings.

5 Scan QR codes with your clients to connect to the MF993C via Wi-Fi.
6 Check device status.
7 Manage Wi-Fi settings.
8 Manage mobile network settings.
9 Turn on/off cellular data connection.
10 View the Internet connection speed and time.
11 Turn off the MF993C.
12 Change the login password to the LTE Hotspot configuration web page.
13 Sign out of the LTE Hotspot configuration web page.
14 View the status of the MF993C.
