Do not use the device in an enclosed environment or where heat dissipation is poor. Prolonged
work in such space may cause excessive heat and raise ambient temperature, which may lead to
automatic shutdown of the device for your safety. In the case of such event, cool the device in a
well-ventilated place before turning on for normal use.

Getting Started
Introduction
ZTE Unite III is a 4G mobile hotspot device, working in LTE/CDMA network. The client devices can
connect to it via Wi-Fi. The device supports data services, enabling you to communicate anytime and
anywhere.
Outline and Parts
The following figure shows the appearance of the device. It is only for your reference. The actual device
may be different.
Part Description
Display View device status. Use touch screen gestures (tap, swipe, flick,
etc.) to access menus and additional screens.
SIM Card Slot
Install the micro-SIM card.
Micro USB Port Connect the micro USB cable for charging or tethered

connections.
Battery Cover Remove the battery cover to remove or insert the battery.
Power Key
Toggle power on or off.
Lock Key Press to lock or unlock the LCD screen.
Indicators
When the device is powered on, the following icons will appear on the LCD screen, with the
corresponding indicators listed in the table below:

Installing Your Device
Inserting the micro-SIM Card
1. Open the micro-SIM card slot.

2. Insert the micro-SIM card into the card slot.
Inserting the battery
1. Remove the battery cover.
2. Insert the battery as shown with the contacts located against the metal springs, and press the battery
down into the case.

3. Replace the back cover.
Powering On/Off Your Device
Slide the Power key to ON/OFF position.
NOTE:
The device is powered on when the LCD screen lights up.
Sleep Mode
When you enable the Wi-Fi function and use the battery to supply power to the device, once no
user connects to the device within specified time, the device will enter the sleep mode,and the
LCD screen will be turned off. In the sleep mode, the Wi-Fi function will be disabled. Press the
Lock key to wake up the device and enable the Wi-Fi function, and the LCD screen will be
turned on.

NOTE:
With USB connection if no Wi-Fi user connects to the device within specified time, only the
Wi-Fi function will be disabled. Press the Lock key to enable this function.
Charging Your Device
You can charge your device by using the USB cable or adapter.
Use the USB cable to connect your device and PC directly.
Use the adapter and USB cable to connect the wall outlet and your device.
NOTE:
The plug only fits one way to connect your device. Do not use excessive force to insert the plug.
About micro-SIM Card
Avoid handling the micro-SIM card unnecessarily. Hold the card by the edges to prevent static damage.
Keep the micro-SIM card away from electrical and magnetic appliances.
If you cannot get service, make sure that:
•You are in an area which has network coverage.
•You are using the correct micro-SIM card.

Internet Access
Connection Scenario
The following picture is the application example. All of the client devices can surf on the Internet at the
same time.
NOTE:
You can only use Wi-Fi to connect to this device and make sure the client supports the Wi-Fi function.
Configuring Your PC
Follow the following steps and figures for Windows XP to configure the Wireless Internet
Protocol for your connection.
NOTE:
Wireless Network Connection is used for Wi-Fi connection.
•Right-click My Network Places and then select Properties.

•Right-click the Wireless Network Connection, and then select Properties.
•Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
•Select these two items, and then click OK to finish the configuration.

Connecting to Your Device
1. Power on your device directly. It will take 1~2 minutes to initialize.
2. Use your normal Wi-Fi application on the client to search for available wireless networks.
3. Select the SSID of your device, and then click Connect.
NOTE:
Please check the label on your device to get the default SSID and password.
4. Input the password, and then click Connect.

5. Wait a moment, and then the client will connect to your device successfully.
Accessing the Internet
1. Switch on the device.
2. Connect the client to your device.
3. After the client is connected to your device successfully, you can access the Internet
automatically.
Disconnecting from the Internet
Log in the WebGUI Configuration page, and click Setting > Network Settings > Data Settings
to turn off mobile data.
NOTE:
Powering off the device can also terminate the Internet connection.

Navigating the Device
Slide the power key to ON position to turn on the ZTE Unite III. The screen lights up. After the
initialization of the ZTE Unite III, press and hold to unlock the screen, and then the following
page will appear:
NOTE:
You need to touch the data usage information on the middle of the device screen to turn on
the data usage plan and configure you data usage directly.
Wi-Fi Settings
Click to configure your Wi-Fi settings. Slide the screen up or down to view the following
information:
Wi-Fi: Slide to enable or disable Wi-Fi function.
Main Wi-Fi Network:Displays the main default Wi-Fi network.
Guest Wi-Fi Network: Displays the guest default Wi-Fi network.
WPS: You can pair the devices to launch the Wi-Fi Protection Setup.
Connected Devices: Displays the connected devices information.
Max Wi-Fi Devices: The maximum connected Wi-Fi number is 15.
Wi-Fi Band: Select desired frequency for your device.
Wi-Fi Range: Select Wi-Fi ranges for your device.
Wi-Fi Sleep Mode: Select the length of time for your Wi-Fi signal broadcast to remain active.
Messages
Click to check the information of your messages.

Settings
Click to check the settings.
Allow Mobile Data: Slide Standard Data to ON position to turn on mobile data.
Data Roaming: Slide Data Roaming to ON position to turn on mobile data when roaming.
Additional roaming data charges may apply.
Data Usage: Slide Data Usage Limit to ON position to turn on your data usage limit and configure
your data plan.
Network Select: Select the network type.
Messages: Touch Enable / Disable to receive text messages during power up.
Display: Set screen brightness, display timeout and Wi-Fi information on home screen.
Lock Screen(PIN):Touch to set a PIN code to lock your screen.
Dial *228: Active your SIM card manually in network.
Software Update: Update the software.
Factory Reset: Erase all data on device and restore the device to its factory default settings.
About Your Device: Check the device information.
WebGUI Configuration
Accessing the Configuration Page
1. Make sure the connection between your device and the client is correct.
2. Launch the Internet browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 or http://uscc.hotspot in the address
bar.
3. The login page appears as follows. The following figure is only for your reference.

Login
In the WebGUI Configuration page, select the desired language and input the password (Default password
is on the device). Click Login to log in the device.
The whole interface is divided into three parts. Related functions can be executed by operation in the
related areas.
•Index area: Shows the configuration list for your device.
•Content area: Shows the detailed configuration.
• System Information Area: Shows the system status and different kinds of tips.
Battery indicator : Shows the battery level.
Signal strength : Shows the network signal intensity.
Internet status
: Connected to the Internet and the data was in used.
: Connected to the Internet and the data was unused.
: Disconnected from the Internet.
Wi-Fi strength : Wi-Fi status and number of the connected users, the maximum number is 15.

Settings
•Do not modify any settings unless instructed by your service provider.
•Please disconnect the device from the network before changing the settings.
Quick Settings
1. In the WebGUI Configuration page, click Settings > Quick Settings.
2. Read the guide carefully, and then click Next.
3. Set PPP Profile Configuration in the following figure and then click Next.
4. Set PPP Authentication in the following figure and then click Next.

5. Set SSID Configuration in the following figure and then click Next.
Service Set Identifier (SSID) is used to uniquely identify your WLAN. If you enable Broadcast
Network Name (SSID), the gateway will broadcast the SSID, and other devices can detect and connect
to it.
6. Set Security Configuration in the following figure and then click Next.
Encryption will keep your traffic from being unauthorized monitored and accessed, select one
encryption mode from the list, and then set key and/or algorithm for it.

7. Show the configuration in the following figure:
Make sure that all the parameters shown in the figure are correct, and then click Apply.
Network Settings
Data Settings
Select Settings > Network Settings > Data Settings. The Data Settings page is shown in the following
figure. You can allow mobile data and data roaming on.
Network Selection
Select Settings > Network Settings > Network Selection. The Network Selection page is shown in the
following figure.

•LTE/CDMA: Device connects to LTE/CDMA network.
•3G Auto: Device connects to 3G network.
Click Apply to confirm your configuration.
APN Setting
•Add new APN
Select Settings > Network Settings > APN Setting. The APN parameters are shown in the following
figure.
Click Add New to access the following figure:
