Vielen Dank, dass Sie sich für das VMG8029 entschieden haben.
Das VMG8029 mit integriertem Router ermöglicht Ihnen die einfache Anbindung
existierender ISDN-Telefonanlagen an einen SIP-basierten ALL-IP-Anschluss.
Diese Schnellstart-Anleitung führt Sie durch die wichtigsten Schritte der Installa-
tion und Einrichtung. Eine vollständige Beschreibung der Leistungsmerkmale und
Einstellungen finden Sie in der ausführlichen Bedienungsanleitung.
Sicherheitshinweise
WICHTIG: Lesen Sie bitte diese Anleitung vor Gebrauch des Gerätes sorgfältig und
bewahren Sie diese für späteres Nachschlagen auf. Händigen Sie diese Anleitung
ggf. einem neuen Besitzer des Gerätes aus.
WARNUNG
Elektrische Spannung an Netzanschluss, Telefon- und Netzwerkkabeln ist
gefährlich!
Die Nichtbeachtung der Sicherheitshinweise kann zu gefährlichen Situationen
führen, die nicht nur hohen Sachschaden, sondern auch schwerste Verletzun-
gen oder den Tod zur Folge haben können.
Das Gerät darf nicht geöffnet werden.
Während eines Gewitters das Gerät nicht installieren und keine Leitungs-
verbindungen stecken oder lösen.
Der Betrieb ist nur für trockene Räume innerhalb von Gebäuden vorgesehen.
Die Netzsteckdose muss nahe dem Gerät angebracht und leicht zugänglich sein.
Der Betrieb ist nur an Netzsteckdosen mit Schutzerdung erlaubt!
Verlegen Sie die Leitungen so, dass niemand darauf treten oder darüber
stolpern kann.
RJ45-Buchsen kommen bei unterschiedlichen Schnittstellen zum Einsatz.
Es besteht daher Verwechslungsgefahr. Achten Sie darauf keine TNV- und
SELV-Schnittstellen miteinander zu verbinden. SELV-Geräte sind nicht
gegen Spannungsspitzen geschützt, was zu technischen Defekten oder
Gefahren für Anwender führen kann. Bei Verwechslung funktionieren die
Geräte nicht bestimmungsgemäß.
An die ISDN-Schnittstellen dürfen nur Endgeräte angeschlossen werden, die
TNV-1-Spannung liefern bzw. für den Betrieb an TNV-Stromkreisen be-
stimmt sind.
Leitungen an SELV-Schnittstellen dürfen nicht außerhalb des Gebäudes
geführt werden.
Direkten Kontakt mit Wasser vermeiden und keine Flüssigkeiten in das Inne-
re des Geräts eindringen lassen. Die Reinigung des Gehäuses soll mit einem
trockenen Tuch erfolgen.

ACHTUNG
Beachten Sie folgende Hinweise zur Vermeidung von Sachschäden:
Taktleitungen dürfen nur an Gegenstellen gemäß der mitgelieferten Doku-
mentation angeschlossen werden.
USB-Geräte dürfen nur mit Kabeln angeschlossen werden, die kürzer als 3
Meter sind.
Dies ist ein Gerät der Klasse A. Dieses Gerät kann im Wohnbereich Funk-
störungen verursachen. In diesem Fall kann vom Betreiber verlangt werden,
angemessene Maßnahmen durchzuführen.
Die Verwendung ist als Tischgerät vorgesehen. Mit entsprechendem Zube-
hör kann das Gerät in ein Rack montiert werden. Beachten Sie die Einbau-
vorschrift.

Gerät in den Auslieferungszustand versetzen
Um den Auslieferungszustand des Gateway wiederherzustellen, drücken Sie bitte
den Reset-Taster RES bis die PWR-LED rot blinkt. Nach ca. 2 Minuten ist das Gate-
way wieder betriebsbereit und kann erneut eingerichtet werden.
LHINWEIS
Das Zurücksetzen unterbricht alle laufenden Telefongespräche und Internet-
verbindungen. Falls eine individuelle Konfiguration am Gateway vorgenommen
wurde, geht diese beim Zurücksetzen in den Auslieferungszustand verloren. Daher
speichern Sie diese bitte über die Bedienoberfläche vor dem Zurücksetzen des
Geräts. Sie können diese Konfiguration zu einem späteren Zeitpunk wieder in das
Gerät laden. Verwenden Sie zum Betätigen des Reset-Tasters einen Kugelschreiber
oder Ähnliches.

Ihr Gateway ist für IP-basierte Anschlüsse (Voice over IP) ohne Splitter vorgese-
hen (Telefonieren über das Internet).
Variante 1 im Bild unten zeigt die Verkabelung an einem DSL-Anschluss. Der An-
schluss erfolgt dabei über die Buchse VDSL/ADSL.

dabei über die Buchse ETH/WAN2. Weitere Informationen finden Sie in der aus-

Verkabelung am IP-basierten Anschluss (Voiceover IP)
(1) DSL anschließen
Mit dem grauen DSL-Kabel verbinden Sie das Gateway (über die VDSL/ADSL-
Buchse) mit der mittleren Buchse am Telefon-Hausanschluss.
(2) ISDN-Endgeräte anschließen
Der Anschluss vorhandener ISDN-Telefonanlagen oder von ISDN-Telefonen erfolgt
über die vier schwarzen, mit S01 - S04beschrifteten, RJ-45-Buchsen des Gateway.
LHINWEIS
Pro S0-Schnittstelle dürfen nur entweder ISDN-Telefone oder eine Telefonanlage
angeschlossen werden. Nach Abschluss der Ersteinrichtung sind die bereitgestell-
ten Telefonnummern an S01 - S04verfügbar. Änderungen der Einstellungen neh-
men Sie über die Bedienoberfläche des Gateway vor. Die Zuordnung der Rufnum-
mern zu den ISDN-Endgeräten erfolgt, wie gewohnt, in den Endgeräten selbst.
Direktverdrahtung über Anschlussklemmen
Für Hausverkabelungen bietet das Gateway noch eine weitere Möglichkeit zum
Anschalten von Telefonanlagen über Federkraftklemmen. Diese befinden sich
links und rechts neben den Anschlüssen S01 - S04.

(3) Computer über LAN-Buchsen anschließen
Bitte beachten Sie, dass die beiden LAN-Ports getrennte Netzwerke bereitstellen:

(4) Stromversorgung anschließen
Verbinden Sie das 230V-Kaltgerätekabel mit einer Netzsteckdose. Schalten Sie
das Gerät über den Ein/Aus-Schalter (ON/OFF) auf der Geräterückseite ein.
WARNUNG
Stromschlaggefahr! Der Betrieb des Gerätes ohne Schutzerdung kann zu ge-
fährlichen Situationen führen, die nicht nur hohen Sachschaden, sondern auch
schwerste Verletzungen oder den Tod zur Folge haben können.
Der Betrieb ist nur an Steckdosen mit Schutzerdung erlaubt!

Die Konfiguration
Nach dem Einschalten des Gerätes startet die automatische Anschlusserken-
nung. Dies sehen Sie an der blinkenden POWER- und später der DSL-LED.
Die Konfiguration Ihres Gateways erfolgt über den Einrichtungsassistenten.Dazu
benötigen Sie die persönlichen Zugangsdaten die Sie nach der Bestellung Ihres
Internetzugangs zugesandt bekommen haben.
Nachdem die POWER-LED dauerhaft grün leuchtet, geben Sie in das Adressfeld
Ihres Browsers 192.168.100.1 bzw. zyxel.box ein. Ihr Computer muss dazu über LAN1
mit dem Gateway verbunden sein. Sie werden nun nach dem Passwort für den
Zugang zur Bedienoberfläche gefragt Dieses finden Sie auf dem Typschild auf der
Unterseite des Gerätes.
LHINWEIS
Notieren Sie bitte bei der Konfiguration das Passwort. Ohne Zugangsdaten kön-
nen Sie die Bedienoberfläche im Gateway nicht mehr starten. Das Gateway muss
dann in den Auslieferungszustand zurückgesetzt werden. Alle Einstellungen gehen
damit verloren!
Starten Sie nun den Einrichtungsassistenten über das linke Hauptmenü der
Bedienoberfläche und folgen den Anweisungen.
LHINWEIS
Da die automatische Anschlusserkennung bis zu 10 Minuten dauern kann, werden
Sie nach dem Start des Assistenten darüber informiert, ob diese bereits abge-
schlossen ist. Warten Sie bitte solange.
Auf der folgenden Seite Internetzugang wählen Sie bitte Ihren Anbieter aus und
geben die entsprechenden Zugangsdaten ein.
Bestätigen Sie mit Weiter und Sie gelangen zur Seite Internettelefonie. Wählen
Sie hier unter VoIP-Kontotyp den Eintrag SIP-Trunk aus, wenn Sie einen Anlagen-
anschluss konfigurieren möchten, sowie SIP-Account, wenn Sie einen Mehrgerä-
teanschluss konfigurieren möchten. Geben Sie die erforderlichen Daten in den
nachfolgenden Feldern ein. Danach klicken Sie bitte auf Weiter.
LHINWEIS
Zur Eingabe von Passwörtern in der Bedienoberfläche stehen Ihnen neben den
Zeichen A-z und 0-9 auch die folgende Sonderzeichen zur Verfügung:

Auf der Seite Zusammenfassung wird die Konfiguration durch Klicken auf
Übernehmen beendet. Im Anschluss gelangen Sie in das Hauptmenü Ihrer Gate-
way-Bedienoberfläche und können weitere Einstellungen vornehmen.
Der erfolgreiche Abschluss der Konfiguration des Internetzugangs wird durch eine
dauerhaft grün leuchtende WEB-LED signalisiert.
Wechsel der Anschlussart
Einen Wechsel zwischen ADSL und VDSL erkennt das Gerät vollautomatisch und
es ist keine manuelle Interaktion erforderlich. Lediglich der Wechsel zwischen VDSL
oder ADSL und Glasfaser wird nicht automatisch erkannt und das Gerät muss in
den Auslieferungszustand zurückgesetzt und neu konfiguriert werden. Bitte bewah-
ren Sie daher Ihre Zugangsdaten auch nach der Ersteinrichtung sicher auf.

Welcome!
Thank you for choosing the VMG8029.
The VMG8029 with an integrated router allows you to easily connect existing ISDN
PBXs to a SIP-based ALL-IP port.
This Quick Start Guide walks you through the main steps of the installation and
setup. A detailed description of all the features and settings can be found in the
comprehensive User Guide.
Safety Information
IMPORTANT: Please read these instructions carefully before using the device and
retain it for future reference. Make sure you provide these instructions to any po-
tential new owner of the device.
WARNING
Voltage on the power supply and on telephone and network cables can be ha-
zardous!
Failure to follow safety instructions can lead to dangerous situations that can
cause not only significant property damage, but also serious injuries or death.
The device must not be opened.
Do not install the device or attach or remove any cable connections during
a thunderstorm.
The device is intended for operation only within dry rooms inside buildings.
The power outlet must be close to the device and be easily accessible.
Operation is permitted only on sockets with protective grounding!
Lay the cables so that no one can step on or trip over them.
RJ45 jacks are used for different interfaces. There is therefore a risk of con-
fusion. Make sure that no TNV and SELV interfaces are connected to one
another. SELV devices are not protected against voltage spikes, which could
lead to technical defects or hazards for users. In the event of a mixup, the
devices will not operate as intended.
Only terminals that provide TNV-1 voltage or are intended for operation with
TNV-1 circuits should be connected to the ISDN interfaces.
Lines to SELV interfaces should not lead outside the building.
Avoid direct contact with water and do not let any liquids penetrate into the
interior of the unit. Use a dry cloth to clean the housing.

Clock lines must be connected at remote stations only in accordance with
the supplied documentation.
USB devices may only be connected with cables that are shorter than 3
meters.
This is a Class A device. This device may cause radio interference in resi-
dential areas. If this is the case, you can request the operator to take ade-
quate measures.
The device is intended for use as a tabletop unit. With the appropriate
accessories, the device can be mounted in a rack. Follow the installation
instructions.
Exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.
Disposal
The product is marked with a WEEE symbol. This means that used
electrical and electronic products should never be disposed of with
general household waste. Take the device to the collection point of
your local waste management company (e.g., a recycling center)
instead and make an active contribution to environmental protection.

Resetting the device to its factory settings
To reset the gateway to its factory settings, press the reset button RES until the
PWR LED flashes red. After about 2 minutes, the gateway will be operational again
and can be set up again.
LNOTE
Resetting interrupts all ongoing telephone calls and Internet connections. If a
custom configuration was set up on the gateway, this will be lost on resetting the
device to its factory settings. Consequently, please save the custom configuration
via the user interface before resetting the device. You can then reload the confi-
guration into the device later. Use a ballpoint pen or something similar to press the
reset switch.

Cabling at the IP-based port (Voice over IP)
(1) Setting up a DSL connection
Using the gray DSL cable, connect the gateway (via the VDSL/ADSL socket) to the
middle socket of the telephone service connection.
(2) Connecting ISDN devices
The connection of existing ISDN PBXs or ISDN telephones occurs via the four
black RJ-45 sockets labeled S01 - S04on the gateway.
LNOTE
Only ISDN phones or a PBX can be connected to each S0interface. After the initial
setup, the provided phone numbers will be available at S01 - S04. You can make
changes to the settings via the user interface of the gateway. The assignment of
phone numbers to the ISDN devices occurs, as usual, at the devices themselves.
Direct wiring using terminal clamps
For home cabling, the gateway provides yet another way to connect PBXs using
spring loaded terminals. These are located on the left and right of the S01 - S04
ports.

(3) Connecting computers via the LAN sockets
Please note that the two LAN ports provide two separate networks:
LAN1 gateway default IP: 192.168.100.1
LAN2 gateway default IP: 192.168.200.1
(4) Connecting the power supply
Connect the 230V power cord into an electrical outlet. Turn off the device via the
ON/OFF switch on the rear panel.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock! Operating the device without protective grounding can
lead to dangerous situations that can cause not only significant property da-
mage, but also serious injuries or death.
Operation is permitted only on sockets with protective grounding!

Configuration
As soon as the device is switched on, the automatic link detection begins. You can
see this at the flashing POWER LED and later at the DSL LED.
The configuration of your gateway occurs via the Setup wizard. To complete this
step, you will need the personal login credentials that sere sent to you after you
ordered your Internet access.
After the POWER LED has turned solid green, enter the IP address 192.168.100.1 or
zyxel.box in the URL address field of your browser. Your computer needs to con-
nected to the gateway via the LAN1 port for this purpose. You will now be asked
for the password to access the user interface. This can be found on the name-
plate at the bottom of the device.
LNOTE
Please note down the password during the configuration. Without the access
credentials, you will no longer be able to start the user interface of the gateway.
The gateway would then need to be reset to its factory settings. All configured set-
tings would thus be lost in the process!
Now start the Setup wizard via the main menu on the left of the
user interface and follow the instructions.
LNOTE
Since the automatic link detection can take up to 10 minutes, you will be informed
on launching the wizard whether this has already been completed. Please wait as
long as needed until this process has completed.
On the following Internet Access page, please select your provider and enter the
appropriate access data.
Confirming this with Next takes you to the Internet Telephony page. Here, under
VoIP Account Type, select the entry SIP Trunk if you want to configure a point-to-
point connection and SIP Account if you want to configure a point-to-multipoint
connection. Enter the required data in the fields below. Then click Next.
LNOTE
To enter passwords in the user interface, you can use the characters A-Z, a-z, the
digits 0-9 and the following special characters
! ? * @ # § $ % & ( ) _ + , - . : \ / < = >
You can then end the configuration on the Summary page by clicking
Apply. This will return you to the main menu of your gateway user interface, where
you can configure further settings.
The successful completion of the Internet access configuration is signaled by a
steady green WEB LED.
Changing the connection type
A change between ADSL and VDSL recognizes the device fully automatic and no
manual interaction is required. Only the change between VDSL or ADSL and fiber
is not detected automatically and the device has to be reset to the factory default
settings and reconfigured. Consequently, please store your access data securely
even after the initial setup.
