Description
The Accu-Chek Rapid-D infusion set is intended for the subcutaneous
infusion of insulin administered with microdosage insulin pumps.

WARNINGS
Read the instructions carefully before use. It is recommended that you consult your
insulin pump manual for information regarding pump therapy.
When using the infusion set for the first time, your doctor or healthcare team must be
present.
• This device remains sterile until the package is opened or damaged. Do not use if the
sterile package has been opened or damaged.
• Protect the product from excessive humidity, sunlight and heat. Store at room
temperature.
• Before inserting the infusion set, prepare the infusion site, according to CDC (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines or institutional protocol.
• Discard your infusion set after use according to local regulations. Do not clean or
re-sterilize.
• The infusion set is for subcutaneous use only.
• Always screw the luer-lock connector firmly into the pump adapter. If this is not done,
a loose connection between the infusion set and the pump could cause leakage.
Avoid using any tools to screw the luer-lock connector into place, otherwise damage
could result to the luer-lock connector.
• Do not leave air bubbles in the infusion set. Fill carefully.
• Never insert the infusion set before priming, or attempt to release blockages while
it is in use, otherwise there is a danger of an uncontrolled quantity of insulin being
infused into the body.

• Never use a steel cannula for more than 48 hours (2 days). Never use the transfer set
for more than 6 days. When changing the cartridge, make sure that the transfer set is
completely filled before connecting it to the cannula.
• If the self-adhesive does not stick firmly to the skin, e.g. after a shower or in the
case of heavy sweating, affix the infusion set with a transparent adhesive plaster.
If the infusion set has slipped out of the skin, use a new infusion set.
• lf the infusion site becomes inflamed, replace your infusion set and use a new site.
• Do not put disinfectants, perfumes, deodorants or insect repellent on your infusion set
as these may aect the stability of the infusion set.
• Dispose of your infusion set safely, so that no one can be pricked or hurt by it, as this
could lead to infection.
• If you have to disconnect your infusion set, pay particular attention to hygiene and
use the protective cap.
• Avoid excessive stress on the infusion site and on the infusion set. Pay attention when
carrying heavy weights.
• Check your blood glucose level 1 to 3 hours after inserting your infusion set and
inspect the infusion site on a regular basis. Do not insert a new infusion set just prior
to bedtime. Check your blood glucose frequently (check with your physician).
• If there is an unexplained increase in your blood glucose level, causing it to be too
high, or if an „occlusion“ alarm occurs, check for clogs and leaks. lf in doubt, change
your infusion set.
• This product contains small parts. There is a risk of suocation if small parts
(e.g. covers, caps or similar objects) are swallowed.

• Pay attention to the tubing of the infusion set connected to your body. There is a risk
of strangulation if the tubing becomes wrapped around your neck. In case of doubt,
use the shortest tubing length to minimise the risk of strangulation.
Insert the infusion set

Choose a site away from the waistline, bones, scar tissue, belly button and recently used
infusion sites. Wash your hands and clean the infusion site according to instructions from
your healthcare professional. Allow the infusion site to dry before inserting the infusion
set.

Remove the cannula and the transfer set from the sterile packaging. Hold the two halves
of the coupling so that they form a cross. Fit the parts directly into one another and
connect them in place by turning for one quarter of a turn in a clockwise direction until
they click noticeably and audibly into place.
WARNING
If the two halves of the coupling do not click noticeably and audibly together, use a new
cannula and a new transfer set.

Screw the luer-lock connector (K) firmly into the screw thread of the pump adapter. Make
sure there is a cartridge containing sufficient insulin in the cartridge compartment. Place
the pump upright and fill the infusion set in accordance with the pump manufacturer’s
operating instructions. Fill the tubing (F, J) until the insulin emerges at the tip of the steel
cannula (A). Do not leave air bubbles in either the cartridge or the tubing of the infusion
set.
Fill volumes of the complete set:
30 cm/12” approx. 7 units U100 insulin approx. 70 µl
60 cm/24” approx. 10 units U100 insulin approx. 100 µl
80 cm/31” approx. 13 units U100 insulin approx. 130 µl
110 cm/43” approx. 18 units U100 insulin approx. 180 µl

Hold the infusion set firmly between thumb and forefinger at the disc holder (E). With the
other hand, remove the adhesive backing (D) from the self-adhesive (C) and twist the
protective cover (B) o the steel cannula (A).

With your free hand, pinch together a bit of subcutaneous tissue at the disinfected
site. Insert the infusion set under the skin at a perpendicular angle. Press the self-
adhesive (C) firmly onto the skin in order to ensure secure seating of the infusion set.
Bend the disc holder (E) slightly sideways and remove it. In doing this, make sure that the
self-adhesive comes to lay flat on the skin.

WARNING
Change the cannula every 2 days (max. 48 hours), otherwise you risk insulin resistance
or inflammation of the infusion site.
Never use the transfer set for more than 6 days.

Form a loop to relieve stress and secure it into place with a strip of adhesive plaster.
Start insulin delivery through the pump.

WARNING
Consult with your healthcare professional on how to compensate for any missed
insulin while you are disconnected. Carefully monitor your blood glucose level while
disconnected from the pump and after you reconnect.
Step 1
Stop the pump.
Step 2
Grasp the two halves of the coupling and turn for a quarter of a turn in an anticlockwise
direction. Pull the two halves of the coupling away from each other, proceeding with
caution.
Step 3
Cover both halves of the coupling with the protective caps (L).
Disconnect the infusion set

Reconnect the infusion set
Step 1
Remove the protective caps from the two halves of the coupling.
Step 2
Start insulin delivery through the pump. Fill the transfer set until the insulin starts trickling
out of the tip of the connector needle (I).
Step 3
Fit the two halves of the coupling together carefully and turn for one quarter of a turn in a
clockwise direction until they click audibly into place (see Picture 2).

ADVERTENCIAS
Lea detenidamente las instrucciones antes de usarlo. Es recomendable que consulte
las instrucciones de uso de la micro-infusora de insulina para obtener información
acerca de esta terapia.
Si es la primera vez que utiliza el set de infusión, deberá hacerlo en presencia de su
médico o equipo de personal sanitario.
• Este dispositivo se conserva estéril hasta que se abre o se daña el envase. No utilice
el producto si el envase está abierto o ha sufrido algún daño.
• Proteja el producto de la humedad excesiva, de la luz solar y del calor. Almacénelo a
temperatura ambiente.
• Antes de introducir el set de infusión, prepare la zona de inserción según las
instrucciones del CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) o las normas
locales.
• Deseche el set de infusión después de haberlo utilizado según las normas locales
vigentes. No lo limpie ni vuelva a esterilizarlo.
• El set de infusión es solo para uso subcutáneo.
• Enrosque siempre el conector de cierre luer firmemente en el adaptador de la micro-
infusora. Si no procede de esta forma, una conexión suelta del set de infusión a la
micro-infusora podría causar fugas. No utilice ninguna herramienta para enroscar
el conector de cierre lluer, o, de lo contrario, el conector de cierre luer podría sufrir
daños.
• No deje burbujas de aire dentro del set de infusión. Cébelo cuidadosamente.

• No inserte nunca el set de infusión antes del cebado ni intente eliminar obstrucciones
mientras se está utilizando. De lo contrario, podría introducir accidentalmente una
cantidad no deseada de insulina.
• No utilice la misma cánula de acero durante más de 48 horas (2 días). No utilice
el catéter durante más de 6 días. Cuando cambie el cartucho, asegúrese de cebar
completamente el catéter antes de conectarlo a la cánula.
• Si el adhesivo no se adhiere firmemente a la piel, por ejemplo, después de la ducha o
sudoración abundante, fije el set de infusión con un apósito adhesivo transparente. Si
el set de infusión se ha salido de la piel, utilice un set de infusión nuevo.
• Si la zona de inserción se inflama, retire el set de infusión y utilice una zona de
inserción distinta.
• No permita que el set de infusión entre en contacto con desinfectantes, perfumes,
desodorantes o repelentes de insectos, ya que estos productos pueden afectar a la
integridad del set de infusión.
• Deseche el set de infusión de forma segura, de modo que nadie pueda pincharse o ni
herirse ya que podrían ocasionarse infecciones.
• Si tiene que desconectar el set de infusión, hágalo de forma higiénica y utilice el
capuchón protector.
•Evite aplicar demasiada tensión sobre la zona de inserción y el set de infusión.
Tenga cuidado cuando cargue objetos pesados.

• Compruebe el nivel de glucemia 1 a 3 horas después de haber insertado un set de
infusión y revise con regularidad la zona de inserción. No inserte un set de infusión
nuevo antes de acostarse. Vigile con frecuencia la glucemia y comente los resultados
con su médico.
• Si su nivel de glucemia aumenta de forma inexplicable, resultando en un nivel de
glucemia demasiado alto, o se presenta una oclusión, compruebe que no haya
obstrucciones o fugas. En caso de duda, cambie el set de infusión.
• Este producto contiene piezas pequeñas. Existe peligro de asfixia cuando se tragan
las piezas pequeñas (p. ej. capuchones o similares).
• Preste atención al catéter del set de infusión conectado a su cuerpo. Existe peligro
de estrangulación si el catéter se enrolla alrededor del cuello. En caso de duda utilice
la longitud de catéter más corta para reducir al mínimo el riesgo de estrangulación.
Cómo colocar el set de infusión

Elija un punto alejado de la cintura, los huesos, las cicatrices, el ombligo y otras zonas
de inserción que haya utilizado recientemente. Lávese las manos y limpie la zona de
inserción de acuerdo con las instrucciones proporcionadas por el personal sanitario.
Antes de insertar el set de infusión, la zona de inserción debe de estar seco.

Retire la cánula y el catéter del envase estéril. Sujete las dos mitades del acoplamiento
de manera que formen una cruz. Encaje una parte en la otra y conéctelos en su lugar
girando un cuarto de vuelta en dirección de las agujas del reloj hasta que escuche un clic
que indica que han encajado correctamente.
ADVERTENCIA
Si las dos mitades del acoplamiento no encajan mediante un clic audible, utilice una
cánula y un catéter nuevos.

Enrosque el el conector de cierre luer (K) firmemente en la cabeza roscada del adaptador
de la micro-infusora. Asegúrese de que hay un cartucho con suficiente cantidad de
insulina en el compartimiento del cartucho. Coloque la micro-infusora en posición
vertical y llene el set de infusión de acuerdo con las instrucciones de funcionamiento
del fabricante de la micro-infusora. Cebe el catéter (F, J) hasta que la insulina aparezca
por la punta de la cánula de acero (A). No deje burbujas de aire ni en el cartucho ni en el
catéter del set de infusión.
Volúmenes de llenado del set completo:
30 cm/12” aprox. 7 unidades insulina U100 70 µl aprox.
60 cm/24” aprox. 10 unidades insulina U100 100 µl aprox.
80 cm/31” aprox. 13 unidades insulina U100 130 µl aprox.
110 cm/43” aprox. 18 unidades insulina U100 180 µl aprox.

Sujete firmemente el set de infusión entre el dedo pulgar y el índice en el soporte de disco
(E). Con la otra mano, retire el protector (D) del adhesivo (C) y retire el tapón protector (B)
de la cánula de acero (A) girándolo.

Con la mano libre, pellizque un poco de tejido subcutáneo en la zona desinfectada. Inserte
el set de infusión debajo de la piel en un ángulo perpendicular. Presione el adhesivo (C)
firmemente sobre la piel con el fin de asegurar que el set de infusión esté bien colocado.
Doble el soporte de disco (E) ligeramente hacia un lado y retírelo. Al hacerlo, asegúrese
de que el adhesivo está bien adherido a la piel.
ADVERTENCIA
Cambie la cánula cada 2 días (máximo 48 horas) o, de lo contrario, puede correr el
riesgo de crear resistencia a la insulina, de que ésta se cristalice y forme un tapón o se
inflame la zona de inserción.
No utilice el catéter durante más de 6 días.

Forme un bucle para aliviar la tensión y asegúrelo en su lugar mediante una tira de
esparadrapo adhesivo. Inicie la administración de insulina a través de la micro-infusora.
